I was curious if anyone remembers the series Kindred: The Embraced (1996). It was a T.V. series that lasted 8 shows staring C. Thomas Howell. It had different clans and a head vampire that made decisions ect. How many people related to this or if it was a good portrayal..etc. I recently found the series on VHS and it brought back memories. I myself loved the series and I was begging for more. I was dissappointed when it was cancelled.
yes i know of the show, i have the dvd of the series here, i found it at a gamestop and creamed myself, i used to watch this show all the time. you can get the dvd for $10, not bad cause you get all the shows
Yes that is quite unfortunate. I was surprised to see the whole set for only $2.23 on Amazon. Unopen even. I think it was too much for the 90's but I bet a show like that would thrive nowadays.
I think if they recasted the roles it would do very well.Hmm you never know maybe if the tv viewing public made it a demand of the tv networks some network might attempt to bring it back.
I bet you are right...Look at the new series supernatural...some would say it was controversial but look at it,, a hit! That is something to really consider and check into.
I heard, though it may be just a rumor, that a movie will be out based upon the Masquerade.
only if done right and by someone who knows of the Masquerade, and cares for it...a lot of people now just want to push moives out and dont care whats in it.... looks never beat story.....
Yes, I not only remember the show..but own the DVD collection. It's not really that good..but a conversation peice nonetheless.

I loved this show based off of Vampire:The Masquerade.
I only know the show because the video rental place had and so I thought it would be good. I was blown away once I saw it and couldn't believe it just ended. I was so disappointed. I would love for another similar show to be started.
Wow! I didn't expect such a response. So thank all of you for responding. I hope that we may see a series that dares to be different and last longer then one season..
would love to see a movie version. If anyone has any info about that I would love to hear it.
I remember the show, it was excellent. It was a disappointment to see it go off the air so soon after it had begun.
HOW CAN ONE FORGET.. THIS WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW, I HAVE THE SERIES OR WHAT WAS THERE ON DVD.
I didnt get the chance to see it when it was on tv but my friend D had it it on DVD. it kinda sucks that it got cancelled it was an awesome show

When you compare 'Kindred: The Embraced' to the TV shows today- it sucks (as far as special effects, they were lame)- but I loved it because it was different in comparison to most Vampire films. I also am not ashamed to say I loved it because I loved Mark Frankel (who starred as Julian Luna). Most of my reasons for loving it was out of the typical woman's attraction to a superior being that would shelter her from all evil, death not being one of them. The show was successful for its short time, and there were great plans for its second season. But, they decided to not continue it out of respect for Mark Frankel (who died in a motorcyle accident), and he had such a fan-base that the regular watchers would have probably lost interest in someone new taking over the role.
'Kindred: The Embraced' is what brought me to Vampire Rave. As a fan I found many links online- one with a link directing me to VR. So I credit Mark Frankel for bringing me here. ;-)
I never got to see the TV show when it was on. But I did rent it one time, there was one copy in the local rental store, and it was pretty good for the 90's effects and so forth.
I went back later on to buy it when I'd got some money and it was gone, I was sad. I hope they come out with a movie, however I would LOVE for someone knowledgeable about the Masquerade and has a passion to do a VtM series again with the times now, more special effects could be added.. but not too many. Keep it good, and like how serious LARPers do it... very well.
I own it. On VHS and DVD. Yeah I am a huge dork but I'm in love with Julian Luna.
Actually, Sci Fi was going to pick up Kindred and make new episodes before the lead died. Shame, that.
Yes it sucked big time when they ended up canceling the series although l bet if they brought it back now it would go off, l mean especially after BUffy & Angel have made such a huge impact, l think TV needs to have another similar tv series.
aw wow, i've never heard of this show, but if its based on V:TM it must be good, anyone know where i can get a copy

Amazon.com is where I ordered it. I got one for my sister there too over the holidays. It was less than 12 bucks for the 8 episodes ;)
My brother's got it on VHS and I love it.......It is a shame that they cancelled it....Even if the lead did die, surely they could've brought another Prince in? As it's already been said on this forum, things have changed a lot since it was originally made, they could do another show based on V:tR and make it up to date. Now I'm sure that would make it a sure fire hit. Oh, one more thing......Lilly for Prince! She rocked even if she was a Toreador! *l*
I've got it on dvd i found it at suncoast in the mall the seires
Like many of you I never got to see it on TV when it was on, and like many of you I actually stumbled upon it at the local video store... rented the first disk and liked to so much I had to immediately go rent the other two.. I now own the set (thanks to my bestfriend)..
I agree that it would have been great if they would have continued with the series, but being a loyal fan as I am.. I couldn't see anyone else playing Julian other than Mark... If they somehow got rid of Juilan and put someone else in as another prince.. I think the show could take off now...
The show was a great representation of some of our family's underground structure and governing system. The laws of the Masquerade were shown clearly and anyone who broke those rules were dealt with.
Even as fictional as the show was, there were a lot of great ideas, some of which I personally believe we should consider and use.

Very cool show that, like all good shows gets the axe. Supports my case that television execs are cretins. I have a television for movie watching. At least I can make a choice.
LOL I agree. If its worth watching they seen to take it off the air. Gotta love DVD players.
I remember the show. I thought it was great. I wonder if there would be a way to try to get enough demand for it to get it back on T.V.
Lord Dacka
I love the thoughts,,,,they could recast as said before and have a second prince come to take over... maybe start off with how maybe a rebel clan killed Julian or something like that. I'm sure then the loyal fans would still stay true wanting to find his killers and see them get dealt with.
IIW turned me onto it ...
I knew that I would find her response here ... she is so in Love with "Julian" ...
I bought the DVD version and once I started watching, I couldnt stop ... I thought it was well done, given the era it was filmed ...
~+~ LORD RHIAKATH ~+~
Gotta get that one on DVD...
Would go well with my Firefly DVD's...
I also own the DVD set you can buy it off of white-wolf.com. Since they were the ones that helped bring it out. I would love if they made a new show about it. Maybe a little better acting but still it was good.
I remember the show and have seen the dvd set. it didnt capture me as much as others. tho Like Batchyle said, recasting and doing it now might have a bigger and better following. As more and more Vampires are coming out of the closet, so to speak.
I agree, I do like it but it could be better. Would like to see that happen!
I remember the series vaugely, and it would be nice if they did bring something like that back to t.v. for those of us that really liked it.
The reason is was not brought back was because Mark Frankel was killed it a motorcycle accident.
I remember this show but not much..might be interested now that i am older...
I loved the show. I was so mad when they took it of the air. I thought it was a good repagination of Kindred
*off... i think if they started a new Kindred show it would go over good..
I must admit I've never heard of the show, but the way everyone discusses it, I would be most tempted to see what all the fuss is about.
I'd never heard of it until this thread, but I would too like to see a decent vampire TV series- I'm distressed when I watch Buffy and chagrined when I even hear that 'Angel' is on and have never seen more than five minutes of Vampire High, before I threatened my TV with violence...
I don't really like vampire tv shows, or actually any sci-fi tv shows. I prefer movies or I prefer the sci-fi pc games. Like vampire the masquearde on PC, that is quite a good game with good plot and graphics, worth $20 or £20
I LOVED this show. It was terrible when they took it off the air. I have the collection. I find it hard to watch, considering the man who played Julian (apologies, I'm bad with names) died in a motorcycle accident. I just couldn't see anyone else going on to play that character...
I loved this show. I have the first 7 episodes on tape (taped directly from tv) but now that I see its available on amazon, I think I'm going to order it.
Believe it or not I remember the show being on, but I never had the oppurtunitty to watch it. From every thing I've heard I'm sorry I missed it and it's another one of those dvd collections I need to pick up when I get the chance.
