I like twists, like in "Let the Right One In," and "Thirst." In the former, we're given a taste of one aspect of modern Swedish life, gangs in the projects, and a child vampire protected by a human pedophile. In the latter, here are my thoughts: The Vampire Priest and his Nemesis
"Let the Right One In" would be my vote if not for the movie "Perfect Creature."
"Perfect Creature" looks at vampirism from a religious and scientific point of view.
I would like to know who the "pedophile" was in "Let the Right One In." If you're thinking it was the old man with the girl vampire, you missed the whole point of the movie.
That old man was a little boy when she met him. He grew old, she didn't. That's why she attached herself to the new little boy (the main character). She knew the old man would eventually die and she needed someone new to take care of her. (this was the same point made about turning children into vampires in the movie Interview With the Vampire)
underworld is a favorite vampire film that i like a lot,iv'e watched old vampire films but to me they are more comedy than scary.
Interview with the Vampire was "realistic" to me, only in the sense of the emotions that both Lestat and Louis experienced. I love the inner turmoil that Louis went through as he went from being human and "grew" as a vampire over the centuries. But that's just me. >.
I'm sorry, Cravings was the dumbest , biggest waste of time ever. I apologize if you enjoyed it. However, I felt my intelligence level decline by a large amount after having watched that movie. I think there are a lot of great movies out there that are far away from mainstream and still good movies, however, cravings was not one of them.
Vampire Journals is not bad. its rather old though.
Sorry, forgot to answer the question, I dont think there is a "realistic " Vampire movie or series out there..... Vampires are not real.
That a heavy question since there are so many different ones out there and so many different people have just as many opinions about them.
realistic would be a hard thing to put into a movie role of vampires i think..since everyones perception of what is authentic based vampirism differs from each other.
I absolutely agree with MysticalJade re: "Interview with the Vampire," and for the same reasons. The inner turmoil experienced by Louis, with which I deal daily, is by far the most incredibly affecting and accurate aspect of the "Vampire" yet portrayed in film.

I have a limit on broody vampires, and Louis pretty much satiated me in that category forevermore. Too one note, but a nice contrast to Lestat, and the perfect bridge between he and Claudia. She wins hands down in that film for me, aging emotionally, but trapped in a child's body.
I didn't see the movie of Let the Right One In, but read the book. In it, the older man who cared for the young vampire was indeed a pedophile. He had a prior arrest record, and to my recollection there was no mention of him meeting the girl as a boy, although that would have been an interesting parallel. He had a career and everything before meeting her. There are also several mentions of what the girl has to do with him, in order for him to stay with her.
Oh ok, I just watched the movie and that's what I got out of it. If he was a pedophile, I wouldn't be interested in reading the book.
I tend to agee with Zombie, the old man did not come across as a Peado. He was clearly under her control demonstrated when she berated him for failing to find her next meal.
Proclaiming, "Do I have to do everything myself !"
Later pouring acid on his face to prevent identication.
As for "Cravings", The troubled girl influences others and clearly uses her intelligence to overcome problems feeding and avoid the authorities manipulating the psychiatrist, persuading another of his patients to be a donor and also controlling the mothers behaviour.
It is interesting how it is viewed as unrealstic nonsense. Yet there are real life cases of Renfields syndrome. I do love the medical proffessions brillaint avoidance of the subject matter...
BMA.."Err What shall we call it?"
Freud.."How about Dracula syndrome?"
BMA.." That sounds like we recognise vampirism, we can't say that, the Church will go bananas."
Freud"What about Renfield, the crazy who ate beetles?"
Yes, whatever... but don't mention the Vampires and don't forget they're all nuts right!
I agree with 'Interview with a Vampire' being more true, more accurate if there was such a reality. For simple fact the chronicle is an epic life story of love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger. And reason as to why I have such an admiration for their creation, and feel such affection for them? The connection between human survival and the undead, and at how no matter the torment, distress, both relate the same and continue to feel emotion...that in life and in death their still consists love, betrayal, loneliness and despite our years of grandeur and decadence and experience, we yet have a hunger for life's answers. Imaginary tale or not, one could assume that such a film would be more realistic for its relationship of character, and life's trials and tribulations, and as for being a superior life form or not? Being human is what they envy.
The Hamiltons put a new twist on vampires. It's an independent film. A part of the 8 films to die for.
I havent seen Cravings...as far as most "realistic" I agree that 'Interview with a Vampire' showed the most true emotions but 'Underworld' is my favorite and "realistic" in a modern sense I guess.
"Being Human" has some amusing moments not the least of which is the title.
I have just watched "The Girl with the DRAGON TATTOO"
If you like good films that are slightly less mainstream yet ultimately true to life take the time to assess this one and if you are not enveloped you are truly undead.
You gotta luv the black dragon and even if you do not then remember this cliche Hollywood...Story Matters!
I tend to agree interview was probably the best and not those sparkly vamps...
I honestly thought 30 Days of Night was cheesy at first BUT I want to watch it again and give it another shot. Plus the book series look wicked good as well.
I've seen the book for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it seems like a unique concept; I had no idea they made a movie for it!
Like the subspecies series, classic genre film, But my favorite movie would have to be vampire circus from the early years , it held excitement and sensuality while having a plot, the new era would be underworld series for dramatic story line and new concept of a fight of the werewolf and vampire clans.;
I must admit to enjoying Christopher Lee and Peter Cushion, the hammer house of Horror had something uniquely dark.
They were met and interviewed by an aquaintance who indicated a real-life dark undercurrent.
Films like Eraser Head also brought something dark to the fore. I feel very strongly that mood and lighting have been sacrificed by 0's and 1's in a masterbation of graphics like fast food that has no longevity.
Here's a review I wrote of The Girl Who Played With Fire with a link to another review on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Loved the first Swedish movie based on the first book.
Saw the second movie based on the second book last night. Not as good, but I love listening to the language.
Not about vampires, btw.
"Blood the last Vampire, Interview with a Vampire, Queen of the damned are my fave Vampire movies. and who are we not to believe in Vampires? I do
Many thanks blood mother, when I first met you I thought you were just a Hydro-aide....Rofl..
Let the Right One In
It was a different take on the usual styles, allowing you to experience vampirism in a different way. Seeing things from a childs perspective as well as a vampire and the constraints of both, were intersting, such as not having the strength to feed herself so relying on that of a human to do so for her. Also to have the knowledge of someone so old, but be limited with ways to apply it.
.. series? as in tv series?? True Blood.
There is no other better.
Movie Wise I agree with half the posts "Interview With The Vampire" Is by far the most emotional of them
Tv series I'm totally with Angelus on True Blood there's no series now that has the modern take on Vampires that and I'm a sucker for Eric........
No modern take...so you've seen series 1/2 of Being Human? If not you would do well to pay attention.Bows and leaves.
I was rather inpressed with the viewpoint that "Near Dark" took, that a blood transfusion would correct the problem of vampirism. Cheesy, maybe, but hard edged as well.
My all time Favourite is Underworld, but have to say I do like Interview with a Vampire and loved the Lostboys film even though it did go a bit comedy weird towards the end.
Perhaps "Manhunter" works in the dark , wears glasses, appreciates art and photography, emotionally detached.
