It's been announced the Bram Stoker Estate have given the go-ahead to an official sequel to the original Dracula novel and first Bela Lugosi film, to be directed by Jan De Bont.
From AICN:
'There's a script out there called THE UN-DEAD (the original DRACULA novel's title) that is officially sanctioned by the Bram Stoker estate as the first true sequel to the book, and the first Bela Legosi movie. It's set 25 years after the events of DRACULA and focuses on another battle between the dastardly Count and the survivors of the original story, including Jonathan and Mina Harker as well as everybody's favorite vampire hunter, Prof. Van Helsing. It will also feature a character by the name of Inspector Cotford, a man who was cut from Stoker's original manuscript.
See, that's all really interesting, but scripter Ian Holt is relatively untested and Jan De Bont hasn't put out a good movie in almost 10 years.'
It's very interesting that it's the first time Stoker's estate have given their blessing to a sequel.
What do you think?
Oh Good, Jon De Bont would direct it. He's good, well, Basic Instinct was a GOOD film.
I'm sure this'll be ANOTHER blockbuster.
I just hope it won't be a bubble-gum movie. (Ick!)
I hope the film will do the work justice. We'll have to wait and see who will play who. That may shine some light on how it might turn out.
hopefully it wil not become one of those
typical "not worth it" movies...
all i can think to say is I hope that this doesnt turn out to be like most sequels that make u want to think twice about ever watching the first movie again.
I think it sounds like the Stoker Estate needs a little working capital.
But I am a rather cynical woman too.
I'll give the movie a chance if it comes out but I'm not holding my breath
There is already a movie out called Dracula II.
Not dracula 2000 or dracula 3000 or dracula Vs. anything.
Its simply called Darcula II. I wonder if this is the same one you are talking about and maybe its old news or maybe its an un-sanctioned version.
No, I just referred to it as 'Dracula II' because it's the first time since the Lugosi original that the Stoker Estate have given their seal of approval to a project, specifically one that is not based on the original novel, but a follow-up, making it the first official sequel to the original work.
The fact that the plot apparently includes a character Stoker cut from his original novel makes me wonder if the treatment for the script might be by a family member.
I hope it turns out to be a good movie, i am personally sick and tired of the kiddy crap that people assume that vampires are...I personally would love to see a bio or movie that would be based on realistic gothisim and vampires of this day and age , personally i dont think anne rice cuts it, tho her her work is great dont get me wrong (Huge Lestat fan) but i would like to see something more along the morals of vampires in todays sociaty. What do you think?
Hopefully, it will be a good movie just like the first...
I really hope it turns out to be a good movie. I'm looking forward to it.
I think that's awesome. I love the book and I love the movie. They both are very very well done. That's awesome news.
I think that its about time and I, personaly, am looking forward to this.
Interesting that the estate has sanctioned an 'official' follow up to the novel...just keeping fingers crossed that the screen play is good and the casting is good....
Thank you for the heads up on this.
lets hope they youse the knowlegde of this site well and take into account the forcite of thier customer base.
thanks for the info
cheers
sounds like it could be very interesting. does anyone know who wrote the screenplay?
i say it might be woth seeing and if they use todays tech. it will be even better
I cant honestly say im enthused about this. the whoring out of quite possibly THE vampire story is not something i look forward too. oh, ill see it alright, and problably hate it when it completely messes up. lets face it, hollywood isnt exactly faithful to previous plotlines.
I can only hope that it will have a good cast and be as good as the first...
well hopefully it will be worth the wait, the first one was excellent,so we shall just hae to wait and see!!!
I'll just wait and talk to people who go and see it before I will. I loved the first movie.
Oh wow. That seems neat =D I'll have to look into it or something.
Is there an expected release date, and when are they going to start filming?
I've been keeping an eye out for any information, but so far... nothing.
That's to bad that u haven't found anything else because I think its all very interesting!
I agree with one of the above comments.... casting can make or break a movie. Hope it's a good one though!
