That's great you've created this- but I just want to state on behalf of Vampire Rave- I don't believe this is 'sanctioned' by Cancer, so I cannot attest to it's safety, reliability... any of that. This is being done by a *member* and is not an official VR app. This being the case- Acolytes will not be able to assist you with this app.

I don't have a problem with the app, but as imagesinwords has said, it's not something that Vampire Rave can sanction.

My personal smart phone runs Windows Mobile, so I can't even test it. I've been wanting to get a second, Android phone for development purposes. I just have too much on my plate right now.

Myself I also agree as to what Cancer said he cannot sanction this and I myself had told you this many months ago. yet, I guess you still wish to go forward with it. I do know that many cannot use it and some have had problems with it yet, I do wish you luck on your endeavor.

i think it's awesome that you took the time to create this... it shows how dedicated you are to the site to say the least.

If your phone runs any version of the android os this app should work. I have tested it in the emulator that comes with the android sdk and it works but there might be issues depending if your phone is rooted/jailbreaked. I know I have issues with mine because I rooted but I am working on a fix also if I can get ahold of the iphone sdk if you care to pm me a link I will look into a iphone version.

As soon as I get time I will Be pushing the source code to my github for anyone to check out the code or even help with development if you hqve experience with java because that is what most of the source code is.

Yea I am having issues with force closing on mine it seems to work in the emulator just fine but right now it is in beta so it is broekn for some phones I think it might be something to do with incompatibilies with the new os compared to the old version 1.5 cupcake version. Because that is what I am using as the framework of the application I am going to be updating the code again between Thursday and Saturday when I get some time off again to work on it. I also think I may of broke something when I was doing a last second edit before I did a release.

I hope to have a working version up by Saturday night at the latest since I only have time 3 days out of the week to work on it but as soon as I finish moving into my new home with my soon to be wife I will be able to work on it more often but right now it is just a beta so adspect a lot of broken releases as I work on POC sections

Nothing is ever perfect to start, I'll keep an eye on future releases. I would personally suggest working from the Eclair framework considering a lot of the newer Android phones run that if not the new Froyo update (2.2, which will not be on the Moment and a handful of others).

I was thinking about that rout but I was not sure the best one to use I know a lot of the phones are now updated to the 1.6 but I am not sure about that right now.

I will be setting up a home for the application on my website when I get some time at Crazy Droid Roms once I get this fully functioning on my phone instead of the emulator.

The first thing I know I will do though is to try and get the source code either on my github account or in the svn on the sourceforge account.

I just do not know which programing rout to take for what type of repository to use. I am just learning how to use git but svn is so easy to do compaired to git but I like how clean git keeps the directories and how it allows a download of the sourcecode without the need of git software unlike the svn respository.

If the Galaxy S phone uses Android (sorry not familiar with it) it should be capable of running the app.

I didn't read this thread the whole way, mainly because navigating this site isn't easy on my Droid.
But I really think Cancer & the others should reconsider the app situaTion. Smart phones are becoming a driving force in the industry & would be a great way to increase activity. I am very active on the sites I have an app for...however the others fall by the way side. I've been on here for 3yrs & ...so I just deleted several sentences because as I waS going to say: it's a pain in the aRse to use my droid on here :(


Seriously support your developer, it'll make us smart phone users more active.

To the designer: o'm going to test it :) hope it's good w/rooted phones. Running bugless beast right now. Lol...I know I'm like 10x hotter to the tech crowd cause of that ;) J don't sell out & make an app for iphone, android's over taking their market anyways

Personally, I do understand imagesinwords and Cancer's positions- the app was created by a VR member, and is really nothing official. It's possible that in the future they maybe a VR app made official though that would involve Cancer working with the Android SDK which I don't believe he has.

I think this is a great idea & look forward to trying it out on my Droid.

Can't review it because it doesn't work with Bugless Beast.

One big point about making this project official: perhaps then there could be more than one developer working on the app & it would be up & running faster. Also it would provide motivation and a better product.

From a personal stand point, having a quality functioning app would give me a reason to keep my account...if for no other reason than that I have an app for it. I have been finding the lack of integration on this site frustrating. I can link my VampireFreaks account to my Facebook, but not this site.

Right now it is just in POC stage which I got it running on the emulator and functioning like I said it is a beta so I am adspecting it to break all the time sadly. I should have it fixed this weekend when I switch to a new framework hopefully using the 2.2 framework instead of the 1.5 framework and just add backwords compatibilty should get it working on the newer models

Okay Successfully got it working on my Rooted Motorola Droid and now looking for testers to try it out.

Remember This application requires your Android Device to be Flash enabled.

I redid the code using the android 2.2 framework so that i could make it more compliant to the flash code on this site.

I built in a Donate Button into the menu in case anyone wishes to donate but it is not required at all or do i even care if anyone Donates at all as I am just doing this because I love Vampire Rave and just want to do my part in making this place even better for Android Smart-phone Users.


In the Release on the menu Screen when you hit the menu key on your android Device i just added Home and Message Center to the menu for quick access to the main page on VR and Your Message Center.


By Request I will add more features like a Dashboard key or Forums if you guys wish them.

I am thinking of Creating a Separate Client for Premium Users as they have more options then the Free Accounts as to keep the Clients clean of options that you cannot use as a free member compared to the options you can as a paid member.

With smart phones as advanced as they are becoming, peoples dependencies on their computer for internet browsing is far less than it used to be and more so with each passing day. This is a business like any other. It just seems foolish to limit potential and operate a business with such close minded tactics. It is not hard to imagine the impact on this community it would have if people could tap an icon on their phone to access this resource. Let alone the exposure of just having an app that pops up in a store when someone searches for "vampire". When you stop growing, you start dieing!

Thanks I also see cancers side as he does not have a android platform based phone to test the application. Yes he can download the sourcecode code the sdk and use the emulator to checkout the application but a emulator can only do so much with it unlike a actual android device.

I am currently building onto the current working beta 3 hopefully will have a release coming within the next week. Right now the application is optimised to use the moble layout hopefully I can have it to automatically switch you to that layout when you load the application I am currently redesigning the menu system in use to better settings as well as add the ability to refresh the current page you visit to make it more user friendly. I may will add this to the adnroid market as a free application soon but that will have to wait until I can afford to do so.

I can confirm this works VERY well on the Samsung Moment.

VR opens seamlessly just like it would sitting at your computer, just on a smaller screen of course. The app is very worthwhile to download, and now that the bugs are fixed which caused the force-closes to happen I feel that I may ditch my standard browser for logging in.

The application is also hosted on slideme.org and I keep it up to date and will open up a android market account soon as well to host the application once we get out of beta and get all the features added and tested out.

I'd love to see this available for LG Ally as well. I know it's not sponsored by the admins, ect but still it would be interesting to have it done.

So far the application has hit 300 downloads so wow and only one good review of the latest which is beta 3.

I am looking for more input as to what you want to see in the application and how far you want this project to go. I will be opening up a new account on sourceforge soon for just this project I hope to have different sections added and to find other programers who will want to work together each who will work on a different platform so that we can cover all smartphones. I am just learning the language for programing in the java language for the android os so this project is a learning experence for me but I am looking to exspand even if it just means I just be the project owner and just work on the android aspect while having others work on the iphone and windows mobile platfrm. As for the LG I do not even know if it is possible to work on as I only seen sdks for only android iphone and windows mobile.

Right Now the site is Very Basic and I will have it in better shape in the near future when i get time to actually install my CMS into the Server so I just thrown together a basic website with the information on it.

The website almost 100% completed. I am still working on more tweaks just did not have a lot of time this week to really work much on the application. Hopefully next week will be better and I should have another release.

so far it been a few days since the release of beta 4 and still awaiting comments on the new option and if anything is not working so far there has been quite a few downloads and no feedback to if the changes and updates are working for each phone type.

Feedback is welcome to help develop it further

so far i am not getting any feedback what so ever if this is fully functional and any bug reports at all so if I do not get any feed back even though i am still getting daily downloads and installs I will be changing this over to a Final Build and call it working 100% complete and just do minor updates as needed when there is os updates

This app does not work on droid 2.2

But to be honest I am not having any issues just logging on with my droid and its web browser and posting this post. An app would be bifty bit not required at this point for myself.

I am running it on lfy 1.95 wich uses the latest android build and the app is running just fine

Using the default Android browser I've had an issue- it won't retain a login for more than 1 page view. The app works great for accessing so long as my 3G holds. Great work!

I am running off of Android 2.2.

LFY=Liquid Frozen Yogurt version 1.9t which is built off of android 2.2.3 source. It is a custom rom as my motorola droid is rooted

would there be any chance of getting an app for blackberrys?

android and blackberrys hold around 75% of the smartphone market currently, infact I think the percentage may actually be higher than that now, it is great to see an app being created for android and not just i-phones.

Cancer added it to my htc incredible over thanksgiving.. I use the app daily, and love it...

I tried accessing the site on my NOKIA...unfortunately, my phone almost died. Ugh.

I did a minor update to the application to the 2.3 build of the Android SDK hopefully fixing the compatibility.

Well i was totally excited about downloading this becuase even thoughbi've been here or 3 years i don't always have access to the net so my activity is low n since i have a droid i thought awesome an app for my fqv site, alas, it doesnt work.on the sony ericson xperia x10...... let me know when uou get a full running version i can use on my droid n i will be all over it ( note to crater : beta 5 told the system wasn't supported on my phone * super sad face * )

To start with. I have an original Motorola Droid running 2.2.1.

I went to your website to download Beta 5 and the phone canceled the download saying file type not supported on the phone. Odd as I have done such with Trillians Beta and had no issues..

I used my laptop to download it ( by using my phone as a broadband dialup :P) I transfered it to my phone threw my tether and it says that said file is not recognized as a APK file by my phone.

Do I need to start by installing Beta 1 and work my way up the chain?

I got it working on my phone finally.

For all purposes it looks like a very slimed down version of my base browser with a menu that has a few specific bookmarks. It runs somewhere between 30 - 50 % faster then my browser though, when not on wifi.

I wish I knew some about coding for the 'droids cause I have a lot of ideas id like an app to do but not sure if they would work or be possible without breaking vr policy.
