The past year or so I've become very interested in runes and have been reading basically anything I can find about them. I was just wondering what people thought about runes or know about them??

This is what little I have learned so far. Runes can be used like tarot cards to divine the future. They can also be used as spells to make a certain future come true. I'm still learning about them myself and if I've misunderstood something please correct me.

Ravenna052199 is not only a hard name to remember how to write it but is also correct in explanation of the runes.

I currently practice a form of Runic magic. In fact my avatar is a BindRune I use. Rune Are one of several Magickal languages Given to man. Each one has its own power and purpose. And when combined with others, make a powerful energy that can be used for many purposes.

I've worked with runes for a long time. I find that they work fairly well in a subtle way....

EI if you use runes to help achieve sucess at work it'll happen, but it's a process that takes time. Other forms of magic (which may or may not work) claim to be faster, but I find runes to be more natural.

I received my knowledge about runes through my wicca books. Once you find out how to use them I hope you find them as useful as I do.

Runes are an oracle from which one seeks advice. They work best if you detail your current circumstances and then ask a specific question. Rune readings are sometimes obscure. They hint toward answers, but you have to figure out the details. This is when the rune casters intuition becomes paramount. Some times the Runes "sing" to me, and their meaning becomes instantly clear.

Runes are divination tools. They are a bit difficult to learn, but so are tarot cards. Practice on friends, this helps you get the feel of your tools, in your case, Runes. You will get better with practice! Best of luck!

Apparently the runes I have been looking at are the older futhark. This was the first website I found

A few years ago, while taking a class in college, runes caught my eye. We studied them, but very briefly. And, they left an impression on my. I really want to get a tattoo done involving them. But, first I would like to read up and make sure that I get something that has meaning and fits me personally. I would love to know of any websites that cover this area.

I have runes and several books here about them. I feel very connected to this as it is the ancient alphabet of my main bloodline (Germanic tribes). A lot of people consider this a 'new age' thing- but the 1st century is FAR from new, lol.

Learning about runes and similars is just as entrancing as any anicent history/mythology/theology. I suggest doing research to find the magical stories that surround it.

just be sure to find the ones that speak to you, and carry them with you all the time, they become yours then, kinda a part of you, and your energy. and get a book to read up on them and how to cast them. i have a really good book about it if your interested message me and i will tell you what it is.

I found a few runes marked with symbols for probably the BC era in an antique store. I asked if they minded if i brought in a specialist to see if they were real....

Runes are very cool. Great for divination. Though there are many sets of them out there, so if you intend on using them, i suggest you find one kind, learn it and stick to it. Morganx

I admit that I do not know much about runes; crystals are more my forte! If you have any mystical stores around you I'm sure they may have runes there for you to look at. You can even go to Borders and check out their New Age section...you're bound to find a book or two there of useful info. Hope this helps! :)

I'm very fluent in the runes, both in reading them and in divining with them. They've become my favorite medium of a sort and I've spent several years researching many different ways to read them and different versions of the runes themselves. However, I don't feel they are for someone who wouldn't have the time and patience to sit down and learn everything they can get their hands on about them and their culture.

runes are actually more of a symbolistic version of tarot cards.

I have done runes online a tarot.com it reads them for you... I have yet to learn to ready them on my own!
But it would be nice to learn to!

There are many different types of runes I make celtic, norse and witch's runes. Each of these though is for casting the future for the most part

Runes are non pictogramic sybolic representations of the sounds which make up words.

They may be used to represent letters, or abstract meanings.

They are used in divination, and casting, as protections, and foci for other works.

They are similar in root to Ogham, both developed as a carved form of writting and so contain no curves, only straight lines.

I have been useing runes for a while, I find great success with them. As for spell casting with them, while I do not spell cast myself, I am familiar with the technique, which in principle consists of forming the appropriate rune or runes from the spell, utilising the more abstract meanings of the symbols, and using the act of carving the rune into an appropriate talisman or foci as the ritual thought path focus for the spell itself.

In this waythe "work" involved in producing the spell acts as the requisite cost, and therefor unlike many other "shortcut" types of magical practice all the energy required is paid upfront making it relatively low risk.

Runes are basically Norse writing... and they look cool... anything else is dubious at best...

I am especially into the history of the runes, not only because as a german they even may have been used by my ancestors ;).

It is quit interesting to read about the development process the runes basically went through since the first ones found until the last ones assimilated in some modern european alphabets.

As already stated they basically are like todays letters, carved into wood or stone,
forming either words and sentences or having a special meaning of its own.

Runen where primarily used by the educated clerical class of the wiking and german tribes. Also the historicans belive, they have not been used for profan matters.
There also exist some interesting old german and wiking sagas, especially the 'Edda' wich tell about the founding and gifting of the runes by the gods.

Yet all spiritual meanings of them are belivings and faithes but not really discovered in the historical meaning.

I prefer the usage of the older Futhark.

I also use runes, when i do my spells, and curses or if I have to sumon a spirits it helps, its makes it stronger and more precis. As mainly a marking on ehter the table or even on a person. But most of the time its on a person.

got bored one summer and picked up a book on Zen Runes.
I even made a set of my own that sadly have been lost to time.
Each Gylph is its own letter, name and poam, and story, and word.
and if you use them in a sequence its would be no diffrence then using the standerd ABC's..

Actually if you want to see some real runes, check out my portfolio. I'm in the SCA, and a friend with a Norse personna received a major award, and I did the award "scroll". It's the very last entry, and it's actual old Icelandic in runes...

I never got into them much but did purchase a small book, and thought it was well worth reading.

Like what's already been said, they're often used for divination. Many people feel at home with them, and a friend does incredible readings at coffeehouses from time to time using only runes.

Well once I read the paper and turned in a translated copy I got an A.
Had I not turned in the translated copy Im sure I would have failed the assingment..oh well...it was a good laugh.
