I don't know if that's what they are saying. There's a lot of different versions of the same thing if you look through the history of mythology....

exactly, Morrigon. I will not attribute my own beliefs to any particular version in public. I am simply saying a number of people believe Lilith to be the mother of vampires and therefore, she (and subsequently vampires) win in the historical appearance of popular mythology.

Lilith was supposedly the first wife of Adam and the mother of Cain also the first Vampire and vamps spawned from her. the incubus are more of a demon and would be first

Just to throw fuel on the fire a little.

Couldn't the incubus and seccubus be considered vampires themselves, feasting off the sexual energy and bodily fluids of others to survive?

I see in that article link, Lilith is described as a seccubus.

As others I had heard Lilith referred to as the mother of Vampires but also as the mother of demons. Like Artemka has pointed out these are just other names for a type of vampire. But the actual naming of women as succubus became popular with the church in the middle ages, the incubus didn't seem as much a danger for some reason. References to vampires are older even if not by the actual name "vampire".

Not that this is really realative to this topic.. But I work with a Jahovas Witness, acording to Jahaova, Judas was the second vampire damed to roam the earth and feed off of others to punish him for his sins as a human.... They said he was made so by Lilith........ I would think the vampire has the oldest history....but i also havent done any research

Wasn't there already some historical evidence that the concept of the vampire predates Judeo-Christian views? From a scientific standpoint, I wouldn't doubt if the "vampire" has exhisted since the days of the caveman.

Well I do find this interesting and thank you for your opinions.
Im having trouble sourcing back that’s why I asked, I understand vampirism in it’s basic meaning is old and like artemka said succubus have same vampirism quality’s in nature, and are definitely documented as coming from lilith.
Checking factual history from the areas linked to them im not seeing this and please don’t quote wikiprdia at me it is wrote by ordinary people and can be changed daily.
Tyrtheoldone is correct and that’s where I am none are proven paths.

Very interesting thread. We vampires need to have some idea where our roots are. Many more learned than I have offered enlightening comments. Lillith is as far as I have seen our mother. I think that we are definitely the oldest back to the dawn of mankind.

Well it depends I guess what source you put your trust in and what you're prepared to call a vampire

I agree that Wikipedia looks impressive but swings back and forth as everyone and anyone changes it

My own research picked out my three favourites, but all mythology is really open to argument [I like these because they had some sort of old record]

The Strix was a night demon from ancient Rome that attacked infants. Ovid described them in Fasti. This Strix developed into the Stegra - a woman who flies about in bird form and attacks infants. These were also recorded in the Saxon capitulary of Charlemagne in 781

In North India, the Brahmaparusha were identical to the Bhuta [souls of those who died untimely. They lived in cemeteries. They ate filthy food and were always thirsty. They had the ability to possess people] except they were always pictured with their head encircled with intestines, and a skull filled with blood from which it drank. The Nepalese "Lord of Death" was depicted in ancient wall paintings holding a blood-filled goblet in the form of a human skull while standing in a pool of blood. Some of these wall paintings are as old as 3000 B.C

Rakshasas were ogres or demons, they lived in cemeteries and had a human, humanoid or half-animal shape. They are described in the ancient Indian holy writings called the Vedas (about 1500 B.C.) They liked disrupting rituals and burials. They had fangs and attacked infants and pregnant women. They were first described in the Atharva Veda.

The vampire mythos has existed with mankind throughout many ancient civilizations. Who attributed vampirism to Lillith, I don't know. Even the Assyrians and Babylonians had their accounts of undead vampires in their society.

Incubi and succubi I don't know.

From what I gather from the website listed is that Lilith is the mother of us all. She was the wife, or so it says, to Adam and that would make her the first mother. If I am reading it correctly that is what the site states.

well the original great vampires were at war with Gallifrey before the planet Earth was even formed - so i guess vampires win. unless they were from the distant future, and used time travel to invade the past - which is cheating.

I would just like to say that I am the original vampire and was created at the dawn of the milkyway... so i beat out the incubus...

sighs why oh why do i go on drunk tangents on VR...

Yes i know Lilith and Incubus could be one in the same depending on what texts you are refering to and what legends have been handing down from cultures around the world...

However I don't see them as the same. Typically Incubus are seen as men and clearly Lilith is not. My reading on incubuses gives a very sexual connotation. By sucking the life out of the female victim. So we have a woman killer versus Lillith... Somehow the two just dont seem to come together to be the same.

If you want to just use written history, I can and have made an argument for vampirism from as far back as Homer. Vampires In Homer

Homer dates in written form to 8th century BC, but the oral tradition he recorded finds its roots in the Late Bronze Age.

LBA - Late Bronze Age (c.1600-1200 BC)

Incubi are demons, and demons and angels preceed man. Vampires are human prodgeny, and therefore came far later.
