why does a werewolf change by the light of a full moon?
i know its something about lunar activity and whatnot,
but is there like a chemical reaction in the wolfie's blood that makes the change?

It's more to do with the fact that the energy is greater from Lunar during the Full Moon period of her cycle.
Although i refer to myself as Wolflike, Lycan, Canid etc, it is a spiritual thing.
Others say they are werewolves etc, but that is their point to make to you. I only speak for myself.
I get very energetic during the Full moon, and i feel totally drained at the new moon.
Some people don't understand it, but i have shown them time and time again! They believe, but don't understand.... Nor do i really!
The term "Lunatic" came from people with mental health conditions, who's state became strangest at the time of the full moon. This was then linked to Werewolves and such like, who would apparently be normal but strange people, but suddenly change and wreak havoc during.... you've guessed it..... a full moon!

These days though, it has been accepted that werewolves can become and change at ANY time of the month, but they are at their most mischievous / awkward / evil / etc at this time.

Real Wolves are heard to howl more often during the full moon also. However, this has been shown to be because they can hunt better with the full moon, because other nocturnal animals feel "Safer" in the brighter moonlight!

Little do they realise that silence and stealth is our weapon, not Darkness! :)

In fairness, i have to say i don't know. Although i don't call my self a "Werewolf", for my logic gets in the way.
I DO go through changes, but don't we all?
Don't take this the wrong way, but ladies have a hormonal cycle, which changes them from angry and irritable through to extra-loving (aka aggressively randy!! LoL) and back again, as they go from fertile to ovulating etc.
GUYS just don't complain about it!!!!

However, when a Male Lycan goes through his stages (or indeed a female Lycan, if that is how her body so operates), the energy levels are concentrated on the greater emittance of the Fuller moon!

Many religions base their calendars upon the cycle of the sun and moon! Judaism, Pagans just to name a couple!

It would be interesting to hear from those who classify themselves as Morphing Lycans, or Werewolves!

TheLunarWolf has pretty much hit that one the head, yes there are changes that are gone thru as well as the hightened senses,i have always had excellent night vision,sense of smell,hearing,but its really acute during the full phase,as is my hunger,or the ability to "play"as it were

I do not class myself as a werewolf or lycan or anything of the sort. However I have noticed that I feel somewhat more empowered when the Moon herself is full. If I had to class myself as something to appease the intrests then I would say that I am a moon child. Because yes I do find some comfort in the Moon herself. That is just my take on it.

there have been studies that show levels of brainwaves changing based on the lunar cycle. i saw something on it on Discovery channel

The idea of men turning into wolves during full moons most likely is nothing more than a superstition about the moon cycle.

It's my understanding that lycans can change at will and that the changing at the moon was more of hollywoods more dramitc way of showing the change.

That's not to say that a full moon doesn't have some effect on the body. The moon effects the tide, ocean current, brian waves, menstrual cycles, and crime. There have been studies done that show that crime tends to hit high points during a full moon.

I to feel extremely energetic during a full moon.

for me there are some physical changes,i.e. hair grows faster and my muscles tend to thicken more, bones ache etc,but as i stated before, my senses are much improved

The idea of a shift during the full moon is not just thought for mythical creatures. Ask hospital/emergency workers about the changes in human behavior during this time period.

Much of it is thought to realate to the moon's pull on the water here on earth, and that we are primarily liquid beings. Just a hybothesis, but so far the one that has the most science behind it.

I think thats just a hollywood prop, a werewolf can probably change whenevr it wants to or possibly when enraged. This is just my opinion though.

Aside from Hollywood's little input, if history is studied enough, there has been accounts of men changing (a.k.a. "turnskin") especially in rituals, even more in Native American practices.

It was said that they can change by choice, regardless of moon phase. In these practices, deep in the woodlands, the men cover themselves only in wolfskin and blood of a fresh kill, a fire and stone circle is involved as well as literally "urinating" to mark territory. The ritual is performed and the change is visible. Even after the practices, some changes linger with the person even in their daily life. These changes include urinating around their house (or wherever it is they live) without the assistance of a toilet, continual heightened senses and more. Basically they continue to act more primal in everyday life.

So I would say, NO it's not just a full moon that brings changes, it can be done when chosen. Although, like in any magical practices, it is strongest during the full moons.

my friends daughter changes completly on a full moon...she was born on one and gets really hyper etc on full moons since birth...

but i do not think she is a wolf...so why would she change so much on full moons?

As suggested before, it is not JUST Lycans or wolves or ANYONE that is affected with the full Moon.
The Moon dictates ALL kinds of cycles on earth.,
This little girl is blessed to be able to harness the power of Lunar so early.
It will work to her advantage once she works out how to use it!
The Point of the Full moon is that it is THEN where she emits her greatest energy.
This that CAN harbour it, do to their greatest potential.
I can moonbathe in just a sliver of moonlight, but in the Full Moon, i can literally sweat from her in sub-zero temperatures! It's a different form of energy to the Solar Heat (even though it is a direct reflection of the Sun, but go figure?!)
My point is.... someone who can harness even the smallest energy from the newest Moon, will have, for want of a better phrase an Overload, when the Moon is Fully charged!
Does that make sense?

The magnetic effect of the moon can have great effects on the moods of people and animals. I think thats where the original idea came from, although i don't personally believe in werewolves.

The Magic Belt or wolf strap

According to German and Polish folklore, any person could transform himself into a werewolf by using a so-called wolf strap. Whoever fastened such a strap around himself would turn into a wolf.

A wolf strap was a gift from the devil. A person who possessed such a strap could not get rid of it, however much he wanted to. Anyone who accepted a wolf strap also had entered into brotherhood with the devil, surrendering body and soul to him.

Polish legend said a witch could transform a bride and groom into wolves by laying a girdle of human skin across the threshold at their wedding feast. Later they would receive dresses of fur and would regain their human shape at will.

Among Teutonic peoples, it was thought donning special girdles made of the pelt of a wolf or the skin of a hanged man would effect the change. When tied around the body, a strip of leather made from wolf skin can turn a witch into a wolf.

If someone called out the name of a person who had turned himself into a wolf, that person would regain his human form.

There are 2 types of Werewolf.

Alpha and Beta
Alpha werewolf is the name given to those who have been given the power of shape shifting through the use of ointments or charms or born to a werewolf (heredity).

Passed on from generation to generation, and sometimes skipping one, the hereditary form manifests itself after the person reaches puberty. When using magic, it is quite possible for the creature to perform amazing feats of strength and even call on surnatural and psychic powers.

For those who have acquired the "curse" through their own will, by entering into a pact with the Devil himself, the change can be done at will and even in the absence of a full moon.

It is said that humans who enter into this pact do so out of desperation and often, in an effort to seek revenge for the death of a loved one,And if I could choose to be a predatory animal, THIS would be the ONE!! hehe

And the Beta....
Those who have been cursed or bitten by another creature are all involuntary Werewolves. They have little or no control over their changes from Man to Wolf and Wolf to Man, and are subject to phases of the Moon.

The relationship between Alpha and Beta werewolves is a complex one. Once a subject is bitten by a werewolf, his or her life and death are doomed to the werewolf curse. The victim does, however, have some hope - as long as they themselves do not taste of human blood, the curse is reversible.

If the Alpha werewolf is killed - through some action of the Beta - the Beta's curse is broken. It is important to note that whether the Beta werewolf was bitten by the Alpha werewolf himself or by another Beta, it is the Alpha who must be destroyed - the source of the original tainted blood.

It is also an interesting note that since Betas and Alphas share common blood, an Alpha cannot physically harm a Beta of his own bloodline by his own hans without inflicting the same injury upon himself. However, if a Beta is harmed or killed by another, it does not affect the Alpha.

I do not consider myself a lycan, but the moon does seem to have a stange effect on me. I become a total bitch and I also get very emotional. I am not sure what it is though about the moon that makes me act differently or why a werewolf turns by the moon.

Impressive information and knowledge shared, I never taugh of such different implications of variables, still indeed the moon as been involve in many changes, effects, actions and unfluencing more then its share of creatures, personnaly I would think the fact that the mooon increase the level of liquids in the body, it might be as of influence to the change and actions. Of course I would admit that I doubt now my opinon to be right. Still in fact it is prooven that during the full moon, and even during night, their is more birth then normal day and daytime. So if it influence the liquides in the belly, I beleive it also influence the ones in the body transporting the canid hormons.

I think the full Moon is a time of change for all beings, particularly for the Pisceans of the Zodiac who are meant to more sensitive. It is like a sense that change, and newness are in the air. Looks at Minx, nice theory babe :)

I agree I dont doubt it I had a friend who used to be a police officer and he told me that the loonies all seemed to come out durning a full moon
