what do u think causes a ghost or spirit to become attached to a person of the living?

there are many things that attract a spirit...not the spirit themselves but mostly poltergiests. one thing is having a teenager coming into thier own and having alot of stress to go with it. another thing and i know this may sound quite odd, but a woman getting ready to start her menstrual cycle can also attract a spirit. these are just a couple of things that can attract them out of the hundred or so things that can.

Well,me personally I had my mom comming to me every night for 2 years after she was killed. When she was alive she could feel something before it happened and she could warn people. And I was going thru alot them 2 year's and she would come to me every night, as soon as changed what was going on in my life she stopped comming....not gonna mention what it was I needed to change cause it very personal but I believe we all have a spirit at one point in are lives that warn's,watch's,etc..us

There could be MANY reasons for a spirit being attracted to a living person....

Possibly to try and get a message across to that person....

To try and protect that person...

Maybe to torment that person, who knows...

I think they are trying to communicate with them.

I think it may be about choices. There are many reasons as has been stated..but in the end..the spirit has a choice and it makes it choice based on something that is attractive to it about the person..whether it is the ability to help or a certain hormone IDK but that is my opinion.

Could be anything. Maybe the spirit was close to the person when alive and wants to continue being with them, maybe the individual just has an attractive aura. Who knows?

I agree with those who say it could be anything. If a ghost/spirit is attaching itself to a member from its original family, it may feel lost in the afterlife. Other times it may be seeking help so that it can continue the crossing over process and finally rest in peace.

i agree with all of you so far..ive studied these things for a very long time now..and there isnt actually anything that doesent attract a spirit..but some otehr things such as a poltergiest, there are certain things that do attract them..but well over 100 things. so it is very hard to pinpoint which kind is which until its there :)

there are many different reasons for Ghost to be attracted to the living, energy, memories, torment Etc the list is endless.

my thoughts vary on this subject but I think it has to do with a person liveliness and their aura.

I think it's mostly about communication.

i think it depends on which kind of spirit that it is. one kinds feeds off of one while the others feed off of different things all together..im really enjoying this thread..thanks to who made it :)

I think the list would be endless, i mean maybe the ghost was a lover, friend, family member, enemy many reason...

if it's a spirit that has recently passed or has mved on and does not realize it then the atraction might be that the person that they are atracted to looks like a family member or even a loved one.
most spirits in general are atracted to individuals with strong emotions usually a spirit looks for some kind of conductor to feed off of such as a energy in a way.

i would also like to add**that playing with the ouija and being unexperienced and doing magick particularly spells with the opening up of the gates will bring such atractions from spirits

well if they the dead had known the living in a past life or if the person has hey energy fields around them. Like people who give off a lot of heat... Normally. They would like to suck that heat from you.

I agree with anyone who has said it could be anything and I especially liked whomever it was that mentioned being attracted to a persons aura. Other considerations could be the energy given of by a witch/warlock/magick user and also the fact that the spirit is not actually bound to a person but indeed curious.

Yeah I think you could be right about that.. Anything could attract a spirit. But the whole energy thing is the only reason I know why spirits are attracted to me. =]

i asked this question because it seems like everywhere i go i seem to attract spirits like crazy. some meaning harm and others to protect but im more concerned about those that have biether of these in mind. like i have a female approx.30 thats a spirit that just seems to follow me for no apparent reason. could it be a past life love or something else?

I think its because the person whom they hang around as a ghost, that person seems to have a high lv of supernatural energy I think. I know they like to hang around me.

one would be because they knew them personally in their solid form or because that person had done something to hurt them or because that person could be the one to save them and to rest in peace

Sometimes a spirit will atach themselves to a living person is that they are curious and sometimes even lonely., others are just plain mean and evil and want to hurt you it depends on the spirit

if the person is a medium or spiritual person, I think the ghost is drawn to that energy.

as far as a medium goes i haven't done anything to test that but i looked at that as a possiblity tooo. but i still haven't figured out anout those with niether good or evil intentions.

I believ certain people emitt a certian kind of energy that the spirits may feel or be drawn to, and they seek these people out for guidance or just to feed from this energy. Much like a new born child hears the mothers heartbeat and becomes calm.

Ghost love the living they want to be seen and most of the time they dont realize they are dead lol.

I think most of the time when a spirit is attracted to a person, it is mainly because it is attracted to the aura of the person, they had personal contact before they were Gone, and that some people just attract them. Sometimes the person isn't always aware that they do. Some people just glitter aurically(ok, maybe thats not a word, but it works.), and the spirits are attracted to it the most.

hm, i thought that when a person dies and doesnt want to leave the pple they love, or someone was taken before their time then they stick around wherever they where taken. just a lot of things like that.

i honestly think its to communicate.. maybe they try to communicate with certain people and they cant / dont see it or feel there presence so they go to someone next closest to and let you feel there presence.. if this is not a relative or friend mayube its someone/anyone who wants you to feel its presence for it may be lonely and has no one to sence itself there can be many reasons

for some reason ppl i have known i life don't come to me as a spirit but all the ones that do come around r completely unknown to me in this life.

I feel the more open you are then the more spirits are drawn to you in hopes of finding answers, memories , answers etc there are so many reasons for them to seek people out in order to communicate for some reason or another. jusy a thought.

i agree with everything listed...however, some are more susceptible to ghosts than others. i guess it all depends on if the person truly believes in ghosts or not. i do.

maybe they just miss being alive.

It also could be something that they didnt get a chance to aacomplish during their lives.

either way i have at any given time about 20 around me and its driving me crazy. they just come around to let me know that they are present and then no sign of them. but there r 12 that i know of that gaurd me all the time.

Oh, I could ramble on for days about this one. There are countless reasons why a spirit, haunting, or whatever you choose to call it would attach themselves to one particular person. One being, that certain person is more apt to be able to sense the presence.

I feel they are comfortable with the person they claim... if it's a "hostel" spirit it has unfinished business either with that person or with something/one else and needs your help....

I believe it depends on where you are on this 'plane' and they are on theirs, if they are comfortable with you, and if they think you can complete whatever it is they need.. even if that is just seeing them - i know some people who wouldnt be able to handle that

either it had a close relationship with them in the living or could help them rest in peace in the afterlife

there is no connection to my life and the spirits that follow me unless it is a past life experiance.

Usually it is something fromthe person's life...but I've seen ghosts hang around people who give off certain emotions because, rather like vampires, htey feed off the stuff.

they may have something in common from there old like to this persons life. like they may have the same amount of children or been in the same type of relationship to liking the same animals and they try to move on through using them.

I don't know very much on this topic. What I do know (from personal experience) is that a resemblance to someone the ghost knew in their past life could very easily attract them to you.

For some it maybe the attraction for their life with that some one when they were alive. Others are your guides to help you through life and its ups and downs.

I have a few of my own that follow me. Actually they have asked me to help them find things. One wanted a family, but he hasnt quite obtained it, the other wants the answer to why he can not be like his past self. Another to find her brothers and she has found them, meh, they have their reasons

I've heard that spirits are usually attached to land more so than people. Tjose attached to people mean something, a loved one, a spirit guide or someone from another lifetime that has finshed their cycle. Depends on what you believe in and who you ask. Most seem to stay around b/c they don't realize they are dead or just don't want to leave yet.

i have heard and read so many replies and now think whatever the case may be for the attraction that it is not always a bad thing that a spirit becomes attracted to any such individuals.

I still think its the spirit energy of the person in general.

well either way they don't like to leave me for long when they do go. and i know that 12 are my gaurdian sprits. and im thinking that they may be attracted to me through a past life.

I have found that alot of times, its just the shear fact that the person knows they are there. Nothing likes to be ignored, and not all spirits can make themselves known, they lack the energy, so they stay with those sensitive enough to acknowledge there existance.

I have heard that a ghost will become attached to someone who is in extreme emotional distress, or they will attach themselves to an item that meant alot to them.

I think that ghosts become attracted to certain humans in the same way that humans become attracted to certain humans. Usually, it is either because they are family members that they miss or want to communicate with in some way. Or, if it is an old lover they are trying to communicate with or someone that reminded them of someone they used to know.

I think they get attached because the living person may remind the 'ghost' of its life. Or someone who was very important in their lifetime.

Yes I think they just come back to people who were important for them in their lifetime, or people who can help them

All of the ghost stories that i have seen on tv about true life hauntings, it seems like the people who are getting haunted by ghosts are people with a lot of energy, so like a few have said the ghost may hang around people who have a lot of energy so they can steal energy from them, then once they have what they need they leave or they stay around always taking a little bit at a time...

for most of highschool i was haunted by a very sweet and eerily protective ghost. i think in his life he lost a loved one because he couldnt protect her, so he protected me. the creepy thing about it was he didnt like one of my friends and whenever she slept over my house was like horror movie haunted and it would continue until she got so scared she left then it was peaceful.

so many different reason why this happen but it is between protection or wanting to say something.

Well, it makes sense to me that a ghost would be drawn to a living person for the following reasons...

- the person is a loved one to be protected

- the person was responsible for the creation of the ghost

- the person is the one person who has the power/resources/interest/whatever to do what the ghost wants/needs to have done.

I think that you have to be at least a little bit psychic to experience ghostly sightings/communications. Perhaps psychic energy alone is enough to attract spirits.

Since I was born I can remember seeing crazy things in the dark. Hearing things. Talking to things. I hadn't experimented with witchcraft/ouija boards by age 3 so I'm sure that isn't it. But I was going through a very stressful time my whole childhood so, perhaps that is another part of the attraction. Speaking from my own experience of course. And they were usually angry and unpleasant to me.

The Old Bailey in London is haunted by a ghost which usually appears after very serious trials have been held.
The ghost is very shadowy and hard to tell if it is male or female.
Some people think it may have been an innocent person sent to his death from the Old Bailey.

A court of law has stood on this site for several hundred years, however, before the Old Bailey was build, the court was secondary to the massive prison that stood on the site. Newgate.

Renowned throughout the city, and throughout the world for its inhospitality and the many condemned that passed to their executions in the streets outside. The church across the street, St Sepulchre's tolled out the hour of execution, and even had a tunnel running to the prison, where a bellman would walk every night ringing his handbell and saying:


"All you that in the condemned hold do lie, Prepare you, for tomorrow you shall die; Watch all and pray, the hour is drawing near That you before the Almighty must appear; Examine well yourselves, in time repent, That you may not to eternal flames be sent: And when St. Sepulchre's bell tomorrow tolls, The Lord above have mercy on your souls. Past twelve o'clock!"


This gruesome tradition continued until Newgate was closed in the 20th Century, and the Old Bailey was built in its place.

Ghosts are attracted to the living because, a person may have a weak aura.

they are tracted to anything that they can derive energy from i believe such as individuals who are into the supernatural.

There are many reasons. I think its has to do with the individual, on a more.. supernatural level. or a spiritual leve. in my case, i am a dark soul, so naturally spirts, ghosts, or entities as some call them, are drawn to me.

I have attracted many spirits over the years, and it's because of my empathic skills that it happens; just my opinion. I'm very open, and let my emotions out there, and perhaps they are attracted to that

The person the spirit or higher energy attaches it's self to is usually the key to finding the way for that spirit to rest.

possibly if you have a strong relation to someone they love

maybe that person reminds them of someone they once knew or maybe that person is a reletive that they feel they didnt get to know well. but maybe the ghost/ spiret is a demon that wants to hurt the person then ghost/ spiret just wants torture, but what do i know im not a ghost/ spiret so i dont know what they are thinking.

I think if a person is really open-minded that can attract spirits and of course there are all the stories of people who were haunted by spirits that were close to them in life, so that may be another reason they seem especially attracted to certain people

went to a womans really old house (mum mums friends boss who had lived there all her life) and the ghost woman was drawn to her partly because she thort that was what she would be like as she got older (murderd at a young age) it wasnt a bad one...im scared of spiders and their was so many in there yet i felt safe in her (the spirits) room. i spoke to her about the lady. very interesting.

i think cause they really loved that person so the spirit did not want to move on
