Are you self aware?
You think your aware of your self and others, but are you really?
Here's a simple test;
Look into a mirror. Do you recognize the person starring back at you? If not, you should probably see a doctor.
Try this same experiment with a 3 to 5 month old kitty, you will be amazed. Watch kittys behaviour carefully. What happened? He fluffed up at his own image, right? Why? Because young kittys are'nt self aware. It's good for a laugh !
Here's the magic part;
Sit and stare at an object for 30 seconds, clear your mind and don't move. Breathe slowly and relax. do this as often as possible for a week.
Pay attention to how you change and respond to others, let me know!
Interesting hon.... is it supposed to make you more self aware? that maybe with in the original post but I have to make sure that is what you're intending to do.....
This exercise is intended to help one focus on the now. I won't anymore. test it for your self!
Deadly viper, there are many things that appear to be foolishness to the casual observer.
This exercise is a simple step toward a much larger world. The uninitiated must have a start point if they want to learn magic and magic requires focus!
hmm ill try it ....
try laying next to someone in the dark.. get the focus of each others face make sure you both are laying on your sides with your one hand holding your head up about 5 inches or 4 inches away from one anothers face .... keep looking at eachother keep focasing see what happens do let me know what u all end up with
i think relating self-awareness to a 3 month old kitten is a bit of a stretch. babies and children of any species are not terribly self aware. because self-awareness is developed, not inherited. stick a 3 month old human child in front of a mirror and it will do similar things (minus the fluffing up of course). you possibly need to pick your similies a little better to drive your point home.
I don,t have a 3 month old human child to perform the experiment on, should I borrow my neighbors kid for this experiment.
Kittens maybe easier to come by and it might keep your neighbor from calling the men in white coats.
personally i'd try a 5-8 month old. they're more fun.
however for many reasons, logistics not being the least, i would not post bail for you if you did.
=P
ok...intgeresting experiment concept...but as was previously stated...where is either the discussion, or the question.....
The question is," are you self aware?" Some people go through their entire lives just doing what others do. I concider such individuals sheep. They have no original thought or ideas and are quick to judge others that do.
This self awareness/focus excercise is an intellegence test of sorts.
It is a Zazen meditation technique.
The discusion comes later after you have verified for your self if you benefit from it or not.
This is actually an exercise in meditation, to help with focus and visualization. After meditating on the object/image while looking at it, you meditate on it within your mind's eye without looking on it. Then you change its nature in your mind, simple things like colour or the direction it is facing at first, then more complex. This is how you practice changing reality through focus of thought and will.
are you self aware?
yes i am self aware of many things from my experiences but i know for a fact i am not aware of everything.
i think awareness comes from ones inner self first before one can be physically aware of anything else.
Interesting concepts of being self aware.
It also needs to be asked, if you cannot recognize your face, but if it is your eyes, that you see staring back, reflecting your awareness and the events that you have gone through, would not then that be what you are after. If you see yourself, and your eyes do not have that which makes them your eyes, through your experiences, would that too mean that you are not aware? or would that mean you have not truely lived?
i believe through experiences one changes of how their own perception is thus perceiving things differently.
i feel that if you look at yourself through the eyes of your own spirit then and only then can you start to understand and begin perceiving things such as magick in a way that is far more deeper than just the physical.
mirrors and breathing are exercises i feel yes but your true tool to freedom of awareness and magick is your own concious and if you can heighten it to a different level then you have advanced into a stage that is far greater than just existing.
That could not have been said any better. Well put Blood.
DONT MAKE FUN OF YOUR REFLECTION, IT MAY COME BACK TO BITE U SOMEDAY,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,judgements of any kind can be lethal to the server there of
interesting but whast it do for you just make you reconize that you are aging and make you more depressed then you was before?
it just a styep to self awarenes it a good excersise in meditation
yes Self Awareness & Magic is a important part of focusing try looking at a candle flame, trap it in your mind if you can do that then you might be selfaware.
i agree self awareness and magick are essential to being able to find the deeper meanings of the subjects that one practices.
Well I will try it...Why not it not hurting anything to find out the outcome of it....
There was actually an exercise similar to this that I practiced when I first began meditation. It forces you to be more aware of yourself and your surroundings and control your focus. I'm not sure how much it promotes actual self-awareness though.. unless I'm just thinking of that in different terms.
I agree with deadlyviper, but I do think that you have to be aware of your self and your surroundings in order to perform magic...if that is what you are getting at.
There i another whole step in self-awarenes that involves knowing your own desires...and can even be taken further into being self-responsible, but that may be farther than most people who scratch the surface of magic want to go...
I get the gist of the idea, and I am into meditation and focus as a relaxation tool.
i like to think i am well at least most of the time lol
I am very self aware thank you. Message me and I'll explain.
Im very aware of me
the best one to do is use a black mirror a scrying mirror.
And then tell me what you see…. That would be true test of ones self
maybe good edvice but still not something that can be debated by reading or thought but by actually doing something for at least a week which by the time people do so this thread will prolly be closed
tryed it all it did is give me a shorter attention span
i understand the need to focus on an object --- but it defeats the purpose when you plant the seed that it 'may' change or our perception of that image may change.
i do believe it takes time and practice along with patience as i know some individuals are not good at focusing and centering ones self..there are many techniques and exercises that one can do to learn from.
I have another suggestion for the young grasshopper,
While you are indulged with your vanity, take a look for a moment behind your face, once you start loosing focus, is it your face, or your past life that looks you in the eye...
WorthlessLies stated that one does not need to be fully aware of oneself in order to do magic, which I suppose would depend on your idea of magic. Most practictioners will say that magic is energy based. We being energy would benefit most in magic if we were fully aware of ourselves.
when ever i do this i see stuff in the mirror if i stare to long...everything will get cloudy and then i see all kinds of images and stuff....
Yes I am . And I'm very sentive to the magics around me . Probably cause I'm a natural witch .
There are times that I tend to not be self aware because of the other things that I do. I generally am helping others so much that I do not take time to look at myself but then at other times I am so critical of myself because I let my guard down. As to the majic well that is something that for me comes naturally.
I'm actually very aware of myself and my surroundings, something a bit more then is "normal"
I am very aware of myself. But again like posted i dont see the discussion on this point
Very interesting i might try this but i dont have any younger children. I have all teens but i have three cats two kittens and a dog
Hrmm..
I am very self aware, centering is a daily ritual for me often needing several a day because of the other things I have to do ...
BloodxCreep made several good posts in this thread. nice and thanks.

self aware is knowing yourself and awareness of self knowing is scary
I've done such things. My best friend was asleep and I was wide awake. I stared into the mirror until I felt an utter sense of self. Once I got that, I stared at the room, and at my best friend...And I felt so aware, so connected. It was amazing.
I think we become aware we just dont pay attention most fo the time
*sigh* the experiment is only a slight endeavor into meditation, which automatically focuses the self inward. focusing inward on a daily basis (and really, 30 seconds doesn't help) will automatically raise self-awareness. self-awareness comes through turning to the inside of one's own self during meditation.
i'm highly self-aware.
