Astrological Psychology is a diagnostic tool which combines traditional western astrology with the modern science of psychology. It is a relatively new development, having its roots in Jungian psychology. In the early 1960's Jung proposed a view where he brought the two modalities together in order to understand man as a whole - both his subjective attitude and conditionings and his spiritual individuality. Using both astrology and psychology, a counsellor can have a different understanding of the workings of a person's psyche and personality, and can help that person rearrange and restructure their life.

Some links:
Psychological Astrology: A Synthesis of Jungian Psychology and Astrology
http://www.spiritual.com.au/articles/astrology/psychastrology_gperry.htm

My question - do you believe that this is a valid form of analysis, or just another means to fleece the hopeful of their money. And why.

Well that's something else I never knew before lol

I think any form of 'treatment' that has 'proven' it's worth is vallid.

Like everything else, each to their own.

I would be interested to know if anyone has been 'treated' in this way and what the outcome was.

Interesting post, thanks for sharing.

I'm guessing the price alone would make it unuseable for many.

As a physicist and former part-time astronomer I always failed to see any significance in the projected position of completely unrelated objects in space to any individual.

As a scientist per se I have troubles seeing the value of having a plethora of money-hungry shrinks trying to project their own fears and/or sexual frustrations (especially those of the freudian variety) onto their victims, err, patients.

So, In my book, a double sham ...

As long as a person believes something is going to work it has the ability to. I would have serious doubts about this working, therefore it never would for me. Those that can and do believe however could benefit from this.

I feel that it could have some benefits. It has been shown in the past that the full moon has a significant impact on peoples behavior. If they can further link astrology and psychology past the obvious full moon effect then it can help with the treatment of more metaphysical patients.

Who knows what can happen? Maybe they are linked and the astronomers of the past were on to something.

Right of the bat, I think it is not a significant method to treat a person (sham).

But, with some documented case studies, they might prove that it is one way to treat people, especially since so many live with a reliance on astrology and it's affect on their lives.

Since this is another application of science and faith/belief, you never know what craziness will come out.

I don't believe that Jung would want his work exploited in this way. His reasoning and method was still in at an experimental stage when he died, although a great mind, it was the other psychologist that have tried to bring the method to fruition. His better fields were psychological archetype.

Scam. Whatever happened to Rugged Individualism, and self exploration? I think many people are simply to reliant on others to fix the crap they've gotten themselves into.

Ancient Predictive Astrology, however, I believe may have some strong "scientific" basis.

I was given a years forcast some time ago as a birthday gift.

I put it in the drawer and forgot about it, when I finally unearthed it, and reread it, I have to say it was very accurate.

That started me off reading a book or two by Linda Goodman.

So I do actually believe in astrology, I'm just not too sure about it being hooked up to psychology.

I am not opposed to psychology or therapy, and although I have little respect for Freud, Jung has always fascinated me.

I've never taken astrology seriously, probably because it reeks of predestination.

As a nurse therapist and avid astrologist, I can tell you this does work. However, you have to know the person's ascendent and moon sign for it to be more accurate.

Like most pop psychology it is rooted in the hopes of individuals to make a name for themselves and money along the way. Anytime you combine something as subjective as Astrology and parry it with a morphing field like Psychology it always ends badly. Course this is just my opinion.

I think the good Jung was onto something. As being very analitical individual, I inspect all sides of life.

This theory of his is in retrospect, full of valid points. Those of whom have faith in astrology, as they read the horoscope on a daily basis, know what Jung speak about. From your sun sign, to your moon sign, to all the side signs discussing your money situations, your finance, your anger, your health etc.

Each one of these cross referenced with your psychological behavior entwine in certain areas. You may not realize it, but all of the functions from each area is significant in day life and thoughts. This is why we change attitudes with the phases of the moon, since our moon signs coordinate with the cycles of the moon, why we are happy on certain days for no reason, whilst angery or irritated on others.

In short, since I can write forever on this subject, is the fact that Jung's studies should have total impact on those of whom have an open mind.

I thankyou Drakon for bringing this thread to life, as it has everything to do with societies behavioral patterns. Hell, I have been doing studies on this subject for years, and never knew another went public about their findings. Damn, have I missed out or what.

People have more to due with there own life then some give them credit for. Sometimes when you are told something is going to happen and you believe it will it does because you helped it happen. when you believe you have a role in your life then and only then does it become your own.

Somethings are going to happen to all of us but our choice may change the timing.

NP Soul I am but here to serve =P

It is a fascinating field and personally I feel the marrying of the "soft" science of astrology with the proven results of Jungian psychology could prove to be a far move valid form of analysis than we realise.

You say you have no respect for Freud, yet Jung was a student of his school.

Jung died in 1961 about the same time this theory kicked off. He was merely trying out a personal believe. His study into alchemy, astrology and sociology, lead him to believe we rely to much on science and logic.
Astrology and the likes were and still are just another 'escape'.

Hey, Bloodlife. Yes, he was a student. Maybe even a pal. They corresponded for years. Disagreed. Stopped writing.

Read Freud's Interpretation of Dreams when I was much too young, but even then I knew he was not for me. Too paternalistic. Most of his work was based on about 12 female patients. He was a Victorian, and they were not kind to women.

Just becuase Jung was a student of Frued, one may like one but not the other. Personally I studied the martial arts under Steven Seagal, so in part...Do you like me still even if you dislike Seagal?

My point being, whether or not one studies or knows another does not mean you have to like both or either. Opinions and beliefs should not be mixed together.

Learning systems are the same way, you may learn from a certain individual, then cross reference with what you already know...Just becuase you study under said individual, does not mean you nessessarily have to like them, though their work is valid for your own studies.

I see two qustions here, not just one:
1.The theory is valid?
2.We know enough about that to use it in any kind of modern science?

1.Yes, it is.From the ancient times(Babylon, Egipt, Greece) the wise people observed some bounds between the stars movement and the behaviour of the living creatures (not only human).
In the second place the majority of people born in certain year periods (astronomy again) show a group of common traits of their souls (psychology is about the entire soul not just mind!!!) that was used to build the Zodiac Signs ...(let`s say) classification.
The uncoresponding zodiac sign of a person could be explained by the variation of the moment in which the child is concieved not only by his moment of birth.
2.We don`t know enough about the concept to use it in any sort of medical advice or assistance. But I think it`s worth studying it.

If you look at it this way then it could work very well.

When someone reads something or dwells on it they tend to cause the actions in their life to go in that direction. If they are told something is going to happen based on astrology then psychologically they are going to make it happen to fulfill what they read. Or the other aspect is they are going to look at something that was told to them and then try to find the moment in their life when it was wrong forgetting all that was contradicting what was said.

It is all related to psychology.

Tenebrous, yes from what I have read we've all shift houses every 70 years or something along those lines due to the movement of the galaxy and the constellations... so technically we're all in different astrological houses to what's traditionally ascribed.

However I don't know myself whether that's been taken into consideration, short of getting analysed by these people or signing up to do their courses of course!

To find your proper birth sign you'll need your time of birth and birth location.

To find the lat and long of your birth location go to the following:

Then go to this ephemeris (compiled by Harvard students and NASA):
