The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

Okay, I'm thinking of the classic sang vamp here--the fictional night-dwelling, bloodsucking, always seems to be well-dressed type.

Imagine you're a newly-turned/awakened sang vamp today, and you don't have the ancient fortunes or ancestral homes of the elders. You were just an average Joe in life, living paycheck to paycheck or maybe a little better, say no more than $40K a year. How DO you get money to afford a place to live or to buy new clothes or put gas in your car? (Flying everywhere attracts attention.. ;)

Do you work night shift? And, if so, how do you manage to feed before work, or do you feed at work? And is that sort of accepted like the classic affair with the boss, or is it something you really have to be extra discreet about?

You'd have to wear gloves if you were going to grab money from your victims' wallets because of modern fingerprinting techniques. Even just grabbing the whole wallet from their pocket has the risk of leaving a bloody fingerprint unless you're wearing gloves.

You can't just break into a store at night nowadays and steal things, and getting them out of the store while it's open would be a royal pain with all the security devices attached to the really neat stuff...

So let's run with this and have a little fun with our serious discussion... How do you get enough money to survive in the modern world?

Perhaps with knowing donors and all of you have been medically checked out and it's safe to partake?

But how do you get enough money to survive? Where do you live? How do you keep the cops from thinking you're running a drug house since all your windows are covered with dark heavy curtains or something similar to keep the sun out?

I want to play around with the challenges of living in the real modern world as a Hollywood-type vampire...

you open your own blood bank, skim a little blood off the top for drinking, and sell the rest to hospitals and other vamps.

live in the basement of the blood bank, so theres no sunlight, and so theres no transport needed for work.

well, in a modern world there are modern stuff... like modern black out curtains.. (i have them) ... and night shift work it's ok... at least in my country, night shift is double paid... so for that i see no problem... and about feeding, well, donors would be good... i used to have two... and im sure you can find friends that would do anything for you ;)

Well, since nowadays there are a load of megastores that are open 24 hours, most of your shopping can be done at night. If you get a job at one of these, you won't really have enough income to live comfortably for a good 10 years, but you can survive. Strategically, you can get a shitty, ghetto apartment, and feed on the people that break in every other night (joke). Of course, disposing of bodies is much harder nowadays, but I'm sure with a little creativity, you'd be okay.

I don't really have to time to plan all of this out, but for the most part, this could be a good way to survive...

You don't work, you're a vampire. You get slaves to work for you. Modern times has 24 hour everything. You can exist among the night people without every being noticed. You exist off the grid, unable to be detected by society, dwell in your victims homes if you can assume their identity as long as possible. f, more likely when you are discovered, move on to the next community.

with little effort ones life could be addapted as a sang vampire.. even to the point of takeing vacation when summer soltice is near so you don't have to be out when there is less hrs of darkness.
todays society already accounts for working overnights just about every department store/ retail store has an overnight stock position. even places like Ibm have 3rd shift(10pm to 6am)
As for blood most people are always looking for a partner just find one who will give you some blood when you need it. If 1 dosen't cut it find 2. there is always a way to survive.

Easy become a rock star feed off of groupies and no one notices your eccentric behavior because it's expected.

Find wealthy meals, torture them for there financial information, drain their accounts, and then move on, I mean ya have all nigth and they taste like chicken so have some fun with it...lol.

*grin* I'm really enjoying the ideas. Some of them have been wonderfully creative--I love the blood bank idea, and the comment about feeding off the people that break into a shitty ghetto apartment...

How about working night shift at the city morgue your meals would be delivered to you then.

You get a job at a financial house, and use your mind alter powers to afect those around you. Maybe private eqity

Even if the vampire kept the job he/she was at making say 40k as you said, with no longer having to buy food they could put that money in savings every week and it would start adding up pretty fast. Eventually though they would have to disappear and start over in a new place since they would never age.

I would think you could survive easily in the modern world as it is constantly in a state of flux. People come and go. You could have a basement area for daylight hours so you wouldn't need curtains. Donors are not real hard to find and night jobs and stores are easily come by!

First person i'd drain would be Donald Trump, after getting all financial information first, that is.

After that, why would I need to work, I would have all his money, homes, wealth. Screw the convience store jobs, i'd be living in the high life with Trump's daughter by my side.

I don't melt in the sun though, so I wouldn't need graveyard shift.

I just drink blood.

And the way I live, I get my donors tested before I drink from them.

And Donald Trump sounds scrumptious to drain.

First I would say that 40K a year is paycheck to paycheck. I would think that you would fill your basic needs from your paychecks and then you would join online vampire groups to meet donors. There are plenty of cities in the USA and throughout the world that are open twenty four / seven so I don’t think being a night dweller would be that big of a deal. You could just live in Las Vegas.

It could actually be easy to be a modern day vamp in vegas what with the nightlife and the transient population to draw from!

I'd figure just like everyone else does. Getting a fricken job.

Considering this is a classical vampire we are discussing, I am sure the SIRE of such would in turn let his kindred share in his wealth until the newly turned kindred was experianced in the ways.

As the SIRE has a safe haven, I am sure the kindred would be most welcome there indefinitally, so there goes the job, place to stay, and whatever else financial situations may arise.

Most of the time, SIRE's, always go for the arestocricy anywho.

How do new humans live in a modern world... they survive however they can. The same can be said for a vampire, they'd survive however they could.

There are more than enough sang vampires and females who are into that kinda stuff for the sang vamps to do their thing underwraps

Vampire of the new would do well to copy the humans in the way they make money. Blend in the best you can. Get a job, go to school. Feed only on the willing.

I think it would be easy for them to blend in if they watched and learned how people worked
