It all depends on the person. Every soul has a preordained destiny; however, it is up to the individual to realize that destiny. There is nothing but the maximum potential and the occasional string pulling to create the weave of life. This is the truth for humanity in general. But as with all rules of regularity, there are exceptions.
Some souls are what I call "destined to a point", those souls who must follow a preordained path until they come to a crossroads, where they may proceed to the left or to the right (metaphorically speaking, of course). These souls may be predestined over a course of many lifetimes, or simply one, or even destined differently each lifetime. However, from the time they make that decision, their final destiny is either set in stone, or negated, leaving the individual to live a life of Free Will from that point on.
Thene there are the few (such as myself) who have given their souls over to the guidance of Fate toward their destiny. These souls relinquish not Free Will, but the overall course their life will take. These souls still may choose at will the everyday, mundane actions; but certain events will happen within a certain timeframe, regardless. This may entail some nastier consequences if one does not heed the subtle guidance that Fate provides.
Then there are the few, the blessed, accursed few whose entire being is predestined. People like Jesus, the Antichrist, and only a handful of others have no real choice in the matter. Everything they do, everything they say is predestined to happen. However, it is my belief that these beings live one life and do not reincarnate, or perhaps ascend once more to a higher plane of existence, their mission having been fulfilled.
But one must bear in mind that these are the exceptions to the rule, though not altogether as rare as one might expect. But still, one must never underestimate the power or the effects of Free Will upon one's destiny. The cards can almost always be thwarted, though some usually settle for postponement.
