I know another post, but I was thinking yesterday and this morning about vampires and what I truly would like to know...So, here is another one that I really most curious about...

How does physical illness affect vampyres (if they do at all)?

well alice my thread was just deleted.... i believe vampires are dead and they cant get sick.. so there..i guess some one else was watching to and deleted my thread..

Physical illness in an "undead" being would logically be unlikely.

Well if you speak of real vamps then any illness can make them sucumb I think.
But we all so have to remember that blood all so contains plasma or white blood cells.
So not only are you taking in blood but all so immunity.

If you're talking about the fictional version of vampires, illness wouldn't affect them. If you're talking about people who live the vampire lifestyle, illness would affect them the same way it does anyone else.

well i guess if your not a dead vampire then yes i can see sickness happening..

I have issues with the whole walking dead thing.. IF it were possible to have a vampire such as those in myth then they would be more like super humans not walking dead..

Dead corpses decompose. They rot and fall apart as "live" tissue is not there to sustain it.

There for just being more of a super human I would think that some would be open to illness but I would think it would take some thing very strong to make them ill and that they would recover with a swiftness.

I see MBD but what if the blood they suck is what keeps there skin together.

You know, I'm just going by the lore behind vampires...the whole thing about them being the "undead".

So they're still human form, what happens if something gets really messed up inside of them, like their intestine gets twisted...Does that affect them at all?

If they swallow 32 quarters, does that do anything?

Plus what if they ingest 'bad blood' such as a person with aids etc

Well one if was to drink with aids it just keeps the vampire alive & we are talking about a dead vampire anyway.
And about the intestines he is already dead so why would it affect him.?

In the fictional sense, if they injested "dead man's blood" it would kill them.

The point I'm noticing here is the clear distinction between the mythological dead vampire and the modern living vampire. The dead cannot become ill, but the living clearly can. I think I would question the strength of the modern vampire's immune system. I'm sure you've all met people who are sick all the time, and others who are ~never~ sick!

Do vampires have better immune systems?

well I highly doubt that a Vampire would ever get sick being as they are pretty much "dead"and live in a coffin.

I don't really think a vampire could get sick. or if they could, they probably would be able to heal quite fast. However. it is an interesting concept to think about how they would react to being sick. being dead and all.

It would be interesting to hear from people who consider they have vampiric traits etc.....do they feel they have a stronger immune system ?

If common legends are tru? and vampires are the undead, then why would disease effect a corpse? so no, no disease can really effect them.

I agree with Sinora: this thread really needs the point of view of some real vampires, instead of focusing on mythological "dead" beings which need no immune system.

People think two different ways about vampires. One is that they are undead, no bodily functions other than to feed. The other is the opposite, that they're alive and kicking, so to speak.

If you believe the first, then no, illnesses and diseases would not affect a vampire.

If you believe the second, then there are so many varaibles concerning their immune systems it's unbelievable. Do their immune systems protect from all illnesses from the common cold to bloodborn pathogens such as HIV and AIDS?

This topic could have a wide range of possibilities.

A virus would not affect an undead Vampire due to the fact their body tempature is much lower than a human, and viruses require a sustained tempature in their host to survive, as per living vampire it does affect them the same as others, but perhaps they react differantly to the run down lack of enery side of things.

it is true and its not true...50/50 because the body of vampires are dead but the spirits are alive as for the question of if vampires could get illnesses i really dont think so because of that their bodys are dead and only their spirits areliving in the form of the human body

In novels and such they aren't affected at all by illness and such.

They contract silver posioning at a much higher rate than lead posioning.

Well it is my opinion that the main weakness of a dead one is the sun.
While the weakness of a living vampire is so much more but like I said "they all so take in the immunity along with the blood".

in my oppinion, a true vampires only illness is the sun,other than that they are unharmed by any illness a human being would have.

"Hollywood" vamps do not get sick. Immortals do not die, sickness. only tired for lack of blood.

She's talking about real "modern" vampires, not the mythological dead vampires, guys.

I guess it depends on how, or what, you define as vampire. If they're simply undead, one could assume they do not feel pain; but vampires have also been portrayed as sympathetic, such as Varney the Vampire; therefore capable of feeling, at the least, emotional pain. You could say they even feel physical pain.

illness can affect anyone vampires or not, no one is imuned from illness, the only difference is we are more aware of our streinght and weakness, and what we can accomplish and what we need

Vampires where immune to the plague unless the black plague was really vampires run amoke.

Vampires can get sick..Even movie vampire become ill. The causes might be different from ordinary illnesses such as the flu or common cold, but they do suffer illness even if its in an unorthodox way..

I say they would be affected by aids.

I don't see it --- If that was so ,, how could it hurt them ? They are already dead ---
Also in some old movie I can't think of ,, A vampire drank tainted blood -- and did get sick for a minute but then threw up all the blood and was fine ..

i believe it is impossible for them to get ill, hence there already dead technically

For those who exercise Psychic feeding methods, a build up in malignant energy could cause a drain in power. Which is sort of a illness

I guess vampires are much stronger and they do not go under illnes effects so easily. If they do get ill, I guess they feel ill as well, until they shake it off.

Supposedly vampires ingest nothing but blood so it would seem to me that their make up would be quite different than a humans. I don't believe illness would affect them at all.

I can see blood related illnesses but that's about it to be honest

Being the energy vampire that I am, if I absorb too much energy and do not get rid of it quickly, I becaome very sick and it take me about a week to recover from it.

i dont think they could become ill.
