Aside from prestidigitation,or stage magic.Could there be a scientific link charms and enchantment.?
Have you ever witnessed someone in an enchanted state?
Have you ever noticed some one charm another person?
What are some ways you think a person can protect themselves from being charmed or enchanted?
i've never seen someone in an enchanted state, i think you'd really have to be vulnerable psychically to allow something like that to happen.
oh...and just don't go biting weird coloured apples that are handed to you by an evil witch obsessed with mirrors.
^^
Charms are I feel more common in the world perhaps because they are used in advertisments.Grifters use charms as well like researching the next up and coming marks gift catologues and recepts to find out what type of gifts a person buys for others ...like jewlery and then buying something from that line of jewlery to assure notice by the next mark.Charms are used both visiual and verbal some call it subliminal suggestion but perhaps if it is attacted to a ritual it becomes a charm.I have cross referenced an article i cannot find about enchantment and the barriers a person puts up in their mind creating a "screen"for obessive facination.Something you see a lot in people that are coming out of tramatic or excited situations.Chicanery is rare and hard to recognized the more people involved the harder it is to hold the image conspiracy groups have a knack at this hoax artist and charleten mediums manipulate this craft.examples of charms and enchantment exist in nature among plants and animals.
Would wearing a St. Christopher medal be considered a charm? Not that I own one, just crossed my mind with this thread.
People can carry small medicine bags with stones and gems for protection and to help, wouldn't those be considered charms?
Ah forgot that part.. neither have I experienced one that has been enchanted.
Maybe there are things that sway fate through charms or enchantments. As far as I know, there is no scientific proof for the efficacy of charms. I would be interested if anyone on VR has such information, but my hunch is that there is no proof that would stand up to the measures of science.
I think enchantments are nothing more than hypnosis on a person.
no I havent seen anyone in this state or even heard of it however like someone mentioned with the possibility of hypnosis and a command than I would have to see it to believe it.
a ritualistic hypnotism, appeasing the senses of the person being charmed, yes medicine bags and even medals are charmsas well as fetishes they provide an unspoken compariable token between two people ...this affect can be used to weeken a persons hesitation to cooperate with some ones suggestions.
enchantment is very subtle symptoms include
preoccupation with a person they knew for only a short while.
some one bragging about a person they just met even defending them in arguments.
How to tell when someone is trying to charm someone you know...
They isolate the person from friends or associates.
They praise the person much to frequently and seldom comment on others in the same scenario
They watch the person carefully and ask directive questions of friends and associates.Sort of like social engineering.
To avoid charms and enchantments the first step is to turn of the network TV lol.
Counter spells and cleansing rituals work against enchantment and must be suggest as a ritual to the person enchanted with out knowledge of why they are doing it.The Spells usually involve clangs or other sensory disturbances, the crazy thing that came up among friends of mine in a conversation is that some people enchant people without even knowing it.Charms can sometimes bring unwanted results as well.
boneyardvixen and dabbler - well done responses. Power of suggestion is a most powerful thing, along with a form of hynosis and you can have someone 'enchanted' and believing in just about anything.
hmm
if i was enchanted ill just tell them ...sorry u cant enchant me im umenchantable
or just use or own good luck charm
my brother goes of in these kind of states all of the time it is just down right frustrating cause you can not pull him out of them until he is ready
Once energy is spent to initiate an enchantment there is hardly any up keep some people are very impressionable especially when love hate or religion are included as a "lever"to the charm.science held off for years before they studied the links between hypnosis and science it was considered strickly metaphysics. There could be a bio-chemical response in a human to be so swept up into something 0or someone that charms them.Thefact that it is so hard to detect in a person, and then elemenate all the other possible causes of spelled states, there is a feel a level above hynposis that is very manipulative the people who use it risk a lot of exposer if it does not work but the up side is a compond with mutiple wives and servants.lol
Even in classic fiction enchantment and charm metaphors are rare. But usally used to remove someone from an equation.
If your talking about enchanting people through social engineering, I have seen that. A simple teenage crush my be considered a form of enchantment.
There certainly are cult leaders that have done it, sales person, civic leaders, politicians, military leaders. I'm not sure they are using some type of magic, but they certainly attempt to charm their audience.
We recently went to the "Phantom of the Opera" by a touring company in our city. My wife was enthralled by it and went to see it again. She bought the movie DVD (actually follows the opera quite well), bought 2 different version of the music CD. Listens to the music every chance she gets and watchs the DVD every chance she gets. If I didn't know better, I would think she was enchanted.
Oh ya, and she also talks about it constantly, about how great the show was and the music.
Yea anything that requires a person to be docile to something they would normally be cautious or critical of could benafit from enchantment or charms when things are done or said to remove inhibitions directly to a person or to people around the target of the enchantment or charm, charms are more short term and enchantments last longer. Pop Culture and hype as someone mentioned here have the entertainment factor and the ad industry has some on the best imagemancers around.A teen crush that is fuel by charms can sadly become an enchantment to both parties, oddly enough the peers of the couple are the ones that sometimes fuel the enchanting illusion.
Are you suggesting that there is some type of magic at work or some type of psychology?
I haven't seen someone in an enchanted state. However I believe the mind is easily enchanted by the simple power of belief. If you believe a charm would protect you then simply put it will!
Yes Souls S I think the line is between magic and psycology. Some things like catatonia where considered spells before science explained then. When idealism is appeased to project a "sensible" union of ideas and then add a collection reward,or sacrifice system .The shiff between real and structured real fades for the person first as a reciever of benefits to a server.
to be a good enchanter one must be able to operate duel ritual and manipulation. There is group pycosis that can feed charms and enchantments as well.
I would agree that is a wide brush to the question subtle things can enchant a person. That girl that ends up going back to an abusive boyfriend or back to an affair that tries to make the person he is having an affair because his marriage is on the fritz. So the when the affair is uncovered the charm is left on the third party as a web.suspending that person from unhindered routine activity. The down side to charms is that the effect can create images that intice the caster.there for getting tangled in ones own web.
No i have never seen an "enchanted" person. I know there are things you can carry on yourself to protect agains things like this. There are quite a few stones and medallions you could wear to better protect yourself.
yes counter charms and amluts when an amulate is worn it shows that a person still believes in what the icon symbalizes the act of someone taking off an amulate or fetish is a sign that something is not right with the persons alignments.especially if they adopt a new symbol in its place.Simular in some ways to the previous one.
I tend to think of the many Dutch barns with their signs and symbols of warding.
Science is an art of the seen and quantifiable, how could it ever hope to prove or disprove that which is not seen or tangible? Never doubt the existence of that which you can not see...
The universe does not revolve around the Earth,
The world is not flat,
There are bugs and viruses unseen by the naked eye...
It took time to prove these things out, and each group of believers had there sceptics.
correct and if people project mystical "explainations"to things that exist beyond our understanding to be just that then some sadly limit the distance they had originally set to explore.Fascination hampered by whimsy...or believe what is served with idealism as a base.I think not...
Both share in charm that is for sure most hypnosis is done when a person is a ware they are being hypnotisised charms are "against"a persons will designed to sway a person to something post hypnotic suggestions can be an inlet for charm if a practoner is crooked though.
I have been to shows and seen the mass "hypnoses (sp)" but I think that it is something you have to believe in for it to work on you or for you. Just like a cross or other protection charm, if you don't believe in it then it wont work.
Well to some degree people that think themselves immune to charms fall under the spell of others enchantments. The angle I studied performance hypnosis sepperates it some from clinical hypnosis elements of entertainment potential are what sepperate the two it would be hard to summerize what i learned but I will dig up the reference material i used.
It depends on what type of enchantment you're talking about.
I've seen people who are so in love or so far in 'lust' that they appear enchanted.
On a lighter note:
My ex was quite a charmer.
I dont think she was enchanted so much as she was plain evil.
I've seen someone enchanted before. It's very... strange to say the least. I've read about carrying stones or hearbs or hanging them above your bed tp keep from enchantment, but I've never had to use things like that.
Lol maybe thats why she is your ex.. but on topid on hand when i was a teenager there was this old lady i swore was a with or something.Just walk by that house and I would get tingles down my back.
no but i find dabbler enchanting, does that count for anything?
To be enchanted I believe that u have to have the will for it to happen.
In the off chance that u are subject to being enchanted u can be protected by carrying crystals.
So the person that sells crystals would have you believe, lol a counter device is indeed a help to counter charms or enchantments, however if the person that sells crystals leads a person to believe they are spelled or enchanted only to sell them a trinket then that is crooked.
Like a medical doctor I suggest if someone tells you , you have a spell or enchantment on you get a second opinion (not mentioning to the next person you go to what the last said) before having them suggest a counter spell.
They help focus the power of the mind. They are mere tools.
Yes but when someone places to much stock in a device like say a rabbits foot, the first time they leave that rabbits foot at home and something happens to them they hitch it to the rabbits foot. Jocks have the same superstitions. They are effective against charms and encantments but can also be used to charm and enchant to a point if a person "prescribing" them is crooked or has an agenda.
A cronicly bored person is more subject to enchantment then a creative person.
Crafts and art can defend a person from enchantment, having a person make a device is better then going out and buying one.
I agree, people do put a lot down to charms. Myself included. If I leave my crystals at home I become agitated and feel like I have no luck with me. That in turn causes me to do things wrong etc...
personally I've never experienced the effects of charms or enchantments, but anything is possible.
Creating your own jewlery from your stones and perhaps rotating the ones you carry. I carry a magnetic stone with me, they are expensive and hard to find in the right shapes. I use this in others ways as well. But it is something I rely on to break ice. I also suggest mantras to enforce your charms and trinkets. Gifting friends crystals and such (not necssarially for metaphysical enlightenment, but for decoration of places you go to visit, is another thing to consider. I had one lady friend that had a wonderful collection of stones and she tries to sell her nicer stock, she gives away her lesser stock, helping people wrap the stones she actually makes more from her lesser stock in donations for helping people wrap, she said she was and is still into the occult and she got most of her stock from a "guru" yet he was enchanting people with them. She realised that when she sold them for the cult more people bought the expensive ones.. Because they where sold with flatterer and promises that appealed to peoples vainity, the energy in those chyrlals where claimed to end depression she had all the charts memorized, she attached astrological clipping to her stones and even plain glazed stones. Believing them blessed by the "guru', A charm can be bolstered with a sensational effect, something a person can smell taste or hear along with see. An item with a small battery can buzz a person, a solution of pepper oil mixed with a fragrance can create a warmness in the persons hand.
When a friend seems to covant an item, usually bought from a fair, or roadside attraction shop, if they are a bit to into it, perhaps you should be a bit concerned.
I like shiney things way to much myself, and I also like to entertain shiney topics as well, if those things are given a theater in my mind as imagination then they are less likely to enchant me, and I am less likely to be utilized to enchant others, because what we appear to promote or endorse by our focused curiosity others see as support for such claims and curiousities.
When I played baseball in high school I had a lucky pair of bikini briefs that I wore during slumps. I felt that wearing them I would play better. I usually did :P
Damn pink tighties.
I have never acuall seen a person be charmed before, but I do beileve in hpnosis, perhaps i could be some form of that and if so could be ver possible.
charms can counter anxieties, even helping some people overcome slumps as you say, a tie in to superstition, and hypnosis sometime reinforced with a trinket, would seem harmless until a complete dependency on the item, or ritual.. eventually the "streak" runs out and a new trinket is found at the next sent of victory. people that make money off such things claim to the victim that the trinket needs to be "recharged" by an enlightened person(for a fee !). So trinkets that come and go is one thing but trinkets that instill a dependency upon a secondary person, (beyond the original purchase price) is suspect in most cases.
Yes I have seen people in an enchanted state before. Alot of my friends used to be in one when they would get a new boyfriend or girlfriend, its like they're under a spell and follow each other around like lost puppies. I don't believe there is any kind of protection or charm that will protect you from being enchanted like that.
The one thing that breaks it is the harshness of the break-up. I real sickening feeling.
Charmes and enchantments to me are basically like magick. It doesn't exist in my opinion.
