New members shouldn't be too concerned about the penalties (or bonuses). They have little effect at the lower levels.

By the time a member reaches a lower mid level (maybe in the lower 30's), the bonuses/penalties start to mean *a little* more, and by this point they probably don't have much of a friend or profile penalty.

It's not until you get to the upper levels that the penalties really swing your score.

As an example, consider a -2.0% penalty:

For a level 1.5 member, the penalty-adjusted level is 1.47. A drop of just .03 of 1 level.

For a level 30 member, the penalty-adjusted level is 29.40. Still a relatively minor drop of .60 of 1 level.

For a level 100 member, the penalty-adjusted level is 98. A drop of 2 full levels.

So as you can see, newer members shouldn't worry about the penalties...

Yes yes but you know how younger members are not good with math, and it is in their nature to worry alot.
