So in the month of April, I attended a total of three (3) out of the 5 scheduled Pagan Meetups with The San Diego North County Pagan Meetup Group in Vista, CA. The distance and travel time for these Meetups were between 33.4 (39 minutes) and 36.5 miles (45 minutes). So in the past, I've only made about one Meetup per month. However, I made a promise to myself that this year I will try to get out more and meet more people. Especially fellow Pagans.
The First Meetup I attended this month a lesson in Elemental Magick was provided by a member of the Spiral Earth Explorations which is a Chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans located in the North County of San Diego, CA. Their mission states that they are a welcoming community providing a safe haven for explorations of various traditions, teachings and worship of Earth based spirituality, Paganism, Wicca, Pantheism and/or Sacred Earth. Their home fellowship is the Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (PUUF). PUUF reminds me of a church organization headed by a Reverend Doctor Beth Johnson who is their minister. A typical service at their Fellowship is said to be set up similarly to some Protestant services. There is music, congregational singing, a main speech which some might call a sermon, thoughtful reflection, and an offering. There are several elements of their service that might differ from a traditional “church service.” They begin their services with the ringing of a bell three times (once for those who have gone before, once for those here today, and once for those who are yet to come) and the lighting of the chalice – the UU symbol. However, due to the distance, I've never attended their church service. After the lesson was concluded, we enjoyed snacks and socializing in the church's kitchen. It wasn't bad at all.
The Second Meetup I attended this month was at the home of the group's organizer. There I participated in a Full Moon Drum Circle celebrating the Full Pink Moon or the Full Egg Moon with some drumming and some spell work around an open fire. Although I got a little lost trying to find their home without driving my other vehicle which has the GPS, I still made it there in time and it was pretty nice! I even got to bang on my new drum I purchased off of eBay which came with a little egg shaker as well.
The Third Meetup I attended this month is our monthly Koffee Klatch for Earth Day. The meaning of Koffee Klatch is a casual social gathering for coffee and conversation. The organizer states that this is our monthly event that is out in public. We do this so those that might be shy about going over to someone's house can feel comfortable coming and meeting others in the group. So those that do come out and have a bite to eat, sit around and converse with those of like mind. The organizer will usually discuss different topics and upcoming events that are already scheduled like the San Diego Pagan Pride Day or events that as a group we would like to have scheduled for all to enjoy.
Although I enjoy this particular Meetup Group, it is understood that once a local one is created in my area, I will join that one as well and they may only see me from time to time just to keep in touch with those I've come to know.
I found this group and another one, that has since disbanded due to the organizer relocating out of state, at Meetup.com. It's a great way to get out and meet new people.
