Beware Thumbcat (real, not Photoshopped)

18:41 Aug 18 2009
Times Read: 808

Irony, I apologize in advance, but I felt you needed to know the truth you only suspected. The cold, ugly horrible truth that is Thumbcat!

From Wikipedia: "common variation with six toes on the front paws, with two opposing digits on each (comparable in use to human thumbs), enables the cat to learn and perform feats of manual dexterity generally not observed in non-polydactyl cats, such as opening latches or catching objects with a single paw."

Check this opposable thumb *shiver*

Polydactyls, Thumb Cats, or Hemingway cats. (I swear, I will never read Hemingway again!)

This guy even has his own evil blog, a cutely disguised horror that no doubt serves as an instructional manual to other thumb cats in-training. Check him out as he surfs the web and opens his own pack of tuna. He lives among us and some grandma somewhere pets him, calls him "ookums" and offers him kibble. Be Afraid!

I've seen cats that weren't like that do all those kinds of things. One of the cats my family had was even able to let itself out of the cat carrier.

I actually have a cat with two thumbs on each from paw. They look like boxing gloves haha. It's fairly common around my area actually.

Further proof that evolution never ends. As cats have become more domesticated and even humanized they are starting to develop features that help them survive in a human world...

*winks at his Darwin fish*

KO used to have two cats that had thumbs, he would throw dice across the floor for them to play with. He was terribly upset when he lost them in the divorce with his ex wife. He hopes to someday find a cat with thumbs again, mind you our other two fury minions of fuzz your clothes might not like it..

"Contrary", I thought,

"I could make a rhyme with this,"

But no, it would suck.

I'm wondering if my stuff is getting too weird for most people. I'm wondering if knowing the answer to that question were yes, would that affect anything for me. I'm guessing that it probably wouldn't since I don't write for commercial reasons and I put everything out there free. It is there to be enjoyed or hated. I write because I have to. Not writing is death to me.

I haven't even sought to be published, though I imagine I will some day because it is my mother's dream and I would love to hand her a copy with a page dedicated to her and to my dad.

Why do I worry so much about how people will feel? And don't bother telling me to just write for myself; I know that. I really do. Yet it does not negate that I DO care.

I have few real fears. Rats (I know...irrational), cameras (also irrational), and that my work is no good. I only hope that worry is a shade of passion and that somehow, it will help to underscore the words I attempt to use as paintbrushes on the canvas that exists somewhere about two inches behind my forehead.

Thank you to all who encourage. You probably don't even realize how much you mean to me.

I am a huge fan of your work...and more often than not can not bring myself to comment. I am sure in some cases, the presence of my own words. Awed, clumsy and inadequate are merely insults to your art.

You are like some strange giant exotic bloom antiquated in todays overly synthesised environment. Depth of character boundless.

Writers do not write, they live words. Words are life.

Worry as a shade of passion??? Yes! You have enough passion for more than one life.

If you think that is clumsy, let me assure you that it is not. If it weren't for the brandy, I might have made it through with dry eyes. Might have. Thank you so much...WAY more than I deserve.

The last fear listed is by far the least rational of them all. You're at far greater danger of being torn limb from limb by rats, or your soul sucked out through a camera lens, than you are of writing anything that is not wonderful.

..you are a gifted writer, J. You truly are. Do you know how much your words mean to me? I am sure you have no idea.. Yours is the journal I always check first.

Your words are redolent of the heat, beauty, scent and imagery of all those things I love most in this world..

Did you know your words have even brought me to tears before? That is power, that is magic..

You worry because you actually do care about the way people are moved by your words. You have pride in what you write and as a result, everything I have ever seen you write has pretty much torn out my soul, stomped around on it, turned it into a kite, flown it for a while, washed it, dried it in the sun, thrown it on a bed, turned it into a scarf and then pushed it back into my body. Then I often cry. It is a good cry.

Never stop caring.
