...Let the spell be spake in rhyme
I have always been curious as to what signifigance a rhyme would have to a spell or magic? Is there a purpose or was it simply the belief of the woman who wrote the poem that most now call the Wiccan Rede?
The actual Wiccan Rede, that just so happens to have been included in said poem at the end "An it harm none, do what ye will" is simply advice following a code of ethics, though some do believe in the threefold law.
I would like your input on the Rede, the whole poem, and your view on the information and advice in it.
well some say that to do a spell in rhyme is just that to bind the spell, to come full circle , to be complete. It stregthens the spell is why it is done, according to anscestors.
I know that is how I have ever done them.
Most rhymes will have a set time pattern, and are usually easier to memorise. Both of these factors make it easier to concentrate you energies into the spell you are casting.
That and they set the mind into the path or mindset required. Pattern and alliteration allow the throughts to progress in an orderly fashion building upon the words spoken previously in order to direct and focus the will to a definable point.
The Rede is self explanatory - but also alows for one's own interpretation to their morals and ethics (threefold rule that some believe and some do not)
i am pagan in my beliefs and even in those there is rhyms..... but its what the spell caster believes that maters most.... a spell will not work if the spell caster dose not believe it will ..... same as recieveing it.... someone has to belive in the religion in order for it to have an effect on you if you dont believe it wont if you do it will.... mostly its in the power of the mind......
The Reede is a guideline, it tells you not to give into greed. It tells you to love truly so that you may be loved the same way in return. I think it's an excellent how-to which helps you write your own spells and work your own magic. As long as you harm none then you are free to use the magic. The threefold law is also just another name for Karma, whatever you put out there will come back to you threefold. I think it's a good precaution to take when you work spells. It helps you keep in mind that your actions aren't without consequences.
To write your own spell in ryhme it is much easier to memorize. It gives the spell more meaning. it also makes you think of what your purpose is of the spell.
I believe speaking in rhyme helps to bind the spell,I have found the rede has held me in good stead with it's words.
I know to do a spell in rhyme is to make it stronger, complete and as alot say it is easier to say. Yet it is because is does bind as in a circle or to come around where once began, hence the 3 folds back at you and also to harm you. So it is best not to harm none. The reed makes total sense if you take the words of the Witches creed / Wiccan reed to heart. just how I believe.
With all magic(k)s, words are just that. Whether they have rhyme or reason behind them. There more they are spoken, the more powerful the spell becomes. As the energy from the words chosen are a part of said spell. When the spell is used with regularity, the words have their own power from the meaning behind them.
I have always done it this way it just comes easier saying it this way. Helps for me to feel more into the spell.. i feel like it binds it a lot better...
First, as for the Rede it is simply outlining our main beliefs.
Second - as for the rhyming - spells do not have to ryhme however it is believed that the rhythmic pattern of the ryhme makes it easier for one to concentrate.
This is also why people use things such as chanting and drumming to raise the energies and channel your power or thoughts.
I think that the Witches working a spell in Shakespeares "MacBeth", and using rhyme have been adapted by subsequent Witches in wording their own spells.
I agree with Silentsorrows...
it really does not matter what you say, how you say it, or if you rhyme it....
you just need to believe in it
:)
i know a few years ago i wrote a few spells myself i like righting spells in a poem because its relaxing and its like a chant it helps me concertrate better and helps me remember them.
The ryhme is so the spell is easier to remember. Not anyone can cast a spell. To cast a spell u need powers
I agree with Silentsorrows and Hawk.
Its not that the spell is said in a rhyme, Its what you beieve that will make it stronger. If I remember correctly in Cunninghams and Backlunds books they tell someone beginning spells to start with a rhyming spell because it is easier for the beginner to become accustom to. It also helps remember specific wording on some spells.
Rhymes and chants have been with us since our earliest history. They began as invocations to spirits and elements, and to gods and goddesses. They were a string of words that brought the shaman into altered states of reality. Soon these chants took on the dimension of rhyming. Rituals were performed and the words spoken became more pleasing to the gods.

I have always believed that since some spells require specific wording that maybe the fact that they rhyme makes it easier for people to remember them properly.
i do not know much of spell casting, though it is something i would like to take up, but i am guessing the words rhyme as a memorization thing or because when certain words come together things happen
Personally I dont think there is any requirement to do this to bind the spell as I have seen so many spells that are not poetical.
usually when i cats upon something it usually dont ryhme but depends and it dont always have to be a rhyme for the spell to work smile
I a spell rhymed, that would definetely make me remember it.
its more like the power behind the words, than the poetic part..
I never really thought about why the spells are done in rhyme, its just the way i learned and how i continue. not all of them rhyme, at least not completely. sometimes its more the words and the meaning behind them than the rhyme thats used. sometimes the spells just come out in rhyme when your trying to write them as well. i have noticed many times that when im thinking of something i need a spell for, it just pops into my head and flows out in a rhyme.
It is true that you have to believe in your spell, and what your doing. yet alot do rhyme because it is easier to remember also LOL
the spell is usually from your heart and not a ryhme The spell is from with in, and its best to do all spells if u can in the nude and when the moon is full
There is no need for a spell to be spoken, much less in ryme. But if one does use the spoken spell in cadence and ryme,I would think it is to hel[ put the body into a frequency that will allow the spell to manifest...or bind.
Ryming is just a way I see of memorizing the things that we learn I was first tought by ryme as a child as I grew upand in my path I went a head a learned to right my spells not necesserly in ryme but with the intention i wanted to set forth

I agree with Drakontion. The way the human mind remembers things is much simpler this way. It's like a phone number, 3 digits, then 4. This makes it easier to remember.
rhyming in most cases are true its not proper, if you mes sup 3 time fold
