Where was God originated?
Upon taking a recent survey, and getting back the results, I have discovered that people acknowledge there is such a thing as a higher being, yet can not say how the being originated. Here in America, ¾s of the population are God believing persons. They worship and pray to a God whom created the world in 6 days. Now 6 days of course could have been any length of time since time was truly not invented until a rather short amount of centuries back. The God that most people worship is said to have been the supreme being, the creator of all things. My question is, where did God come from? Where did any supreme power come from? If we were created by a God, then whom was that particular God created from? You could potentially come up with an answer to this question, but it would only lead me to ask once again, where did everything originate? It is to my understanding that everything came from somewhere, so how could something just appear. It is most perplexing to the brain to think constantly how did this all start? How, even if something could begin itself from nothingness, could it develop into a universe, a solar system, a human? I just keep wandering back thinking everything has a creator, so who created the creator. I feel as though sometimes I am so close. Then other times I feel as though I am so far away, so miserable.
Very good question. And yes, if you keep taking a step back and look at everything else in the world, universe, galaxy (and who knows what else that's bigger) it can get very depressing when you realize just how small and insignificant you are in the whole process of things.
im the creator of chicken.... um but seriously... there is no answer to this just perspective...
if were talking about our present god
well look at greek roman and norse mythology he was created after a war between the gods that desoyed every thing but then who created those gods
i agree with Intelligence....nobody really knows, and to insist that you do, is merely ego. the truth is, we will not know until our day of passing. course, we all have our feelings on the matter. i know i have a few speculations. ;) but then again, opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one and they all stink. :P
::Shrugs shoulders::
Homer: I don't know Coastguard maybe.
god --
it purely depends on FAITH
that is what keeps most of the world running and getting through their everyday troubles...
What if there was a god... duh come on... the question is not if theres a god.. but what is it? maybe eveything from microns up makes god as a whole... the personification of god is very unreasonable for a simple reason (no pun intended)..God is an entity whatever it is without any concept per se except having had everything happened...I hope you get that one..
no answer on this post could possibley be the right one so don't bother even thinking about it or your mind may explode..
People believe in gods/goddess to put thier mind at ease in a way.. It makes you fear death less when you know a higher power is going to look after your soul. If there is or not... that depeands on your faith in him or her.. it can never be proven ...
It can never be proven... but something had to create us. Something can not come out of nothing.
I agree, something did create us. But what exactly? a higher being? Will we ever find out? probaly not until our time comes...
Actually Obelisk, it's pretty limiting to follow the thought path that something must come from something else. If you're going to contemplate complex theories, you need to have a more complex theoretical system that steps outside of traditional boundaries.
Evolution? Man evolved and created deities. Without belief, deities have no power.
I myself have had this same question/discussion with myself, Cancer I want to know your theory...
Yeah, I PMd him asking about his theory as well. Always love hearing another's perspectives.
it's a ladder theory
if you find who created god....the question then becomes who created that entity
would it not be more pertinent to ask why than who?
what good would simple knowledge of such a entity convey.....better to ask the why....then you may begin to look for answers...if all you wonder is who then if you find who you stop seeking.
and I just had my train of thought derailed....hundreds dead..it was horrible.
Ok, even as a Christian I have ALWAYS wondered the same thing ... if God created Man kind, and everything else who created Him ... and as of yet in 25+ years of asking every preacher, pastor, nun, or wahtever I have yet to be given an answer that makes any sense.
How can they just say "He just was"
Ok, can you say ring around the rosey ... *getting dizzy running in circles* We all fall down ...
man created god so that he could sleep better at night knowing that his mortal life would shortly end.
humans are the only creatures on earth that contemplate the end of their existence, (which is astounding IMO) and created creation/earth spirits to explain and rationalise human experience, human lifetimes, death, birth etc
To us God always was. Our minds cannot computate that yet we are not evolved enough. We are limited to the math, science and physics of this earth thus, far.
i always stump my christian fwend with that its so funni thats y im an athist
MY THEORY
god and the devil were made up by sum drunken bum who needed a way 2 scare his brats
so there is no creator at all the big bang thats all there was 2 it
just on the note of Oblisk and Cancer.... I agree with Cancer in that you have to step outside boundaries into the unknown....
but, I still hold that God was created by man, and that we need not be created by any other being to exist... whether it was evolution, a random event that just coincidentally created life as we know it, or (one of my fav) we're just the imagination of a child lol in their imaginary world :)
Even when I "step outside of traditional boundaries" it still seems to me that something had to start all of this. Call it naive if you want.
Anyways, I am very interested in your theory on this Cancer. How would you define the creator's creator?
mm...nice subject,,well..its something..which is unexplainable.. however we cannot be sure...until death embraces us;)
There are an infinite number of plausible theories. They are all theories, none can be called Laws under the scientific method... Even the Big Bang. That being said, here's a plausible theory for you to think about:
I (Cancer) created God.
I created this entire physical, mental, and spiritual reality. I created my physical body, and I created all of you. You don't really exist in a spiritual sense, you're just characters in my reality. When I finish what I am doing here, I'll just erase all of you.
I created God, in that He is a creation of my mythos. I created myself with an ingrained belief in a higher power. I had a reason for doing this, but I can't remember what it was at the moment. I'll remember later when I am done here.
This theory is a spin-off of a popular after-life concept: self-actualization realities. Self-actualization reality is very well portrayed in the movie, What Dreams May Come.
Very interesting, it's a whole new view on the creation issue. I especially like this part:
"I created God, in that He is a creation of my mythos. I created myself with an ingrained belief in a higher power. I had a reason for doing this, but I can't remember what it was at the moment. I'll remember later when I am done here."
It's always good just to get a whole bunch of different view on things.
Though it is almost impossible to argue with you Cancer, as most of the time you have deeply thought before you speak. You are truly one of the only people that would openly claim to have created the world and everyone here and have everyone cogratulate you for it :))
God or a Higher Power idea, is what keeps people humble. Without the fear of impending judgement people are harder to herd. The God ideal was a sort of early population control.
My concept of god is a collective of all things, across all space and time. Therefor, god, nor anything else in existance was created. Everything that exists, has always existed, just in different forms. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only changed. If you can get a vauge idea of a collective of all things across all time and space, it fits with nearly any concept of deity. But as a whole, it's not really a concept any individual can grasp. It's the concept of infinity. It cannot be proven, nor disproven, much like Cancer's theory. I've had some really interesting visuals on the concepts of the universe and infinity during substance-induced meditation. Really rather interesting. I just tend to have trouble remembering much detail of it later on.
not an christian so couldnt care but if satans real then god has to be just think some reason we are here sorry if that doesnt help
one more time --an impossible question to answer. We are not ready to answer this yet most people cant explain God or life. So how can you explain the creation of the creator. Its not logical
Well apparition it's always nice to share what you think. I enjoy all of these responses, makes the wheels in my head turn to think about them. I'd imagine embracing other's opinions is a healthy thing.
Does God exist? That's prolly the question you should ask first!
=)
If you were really really smart, you would be asking what time is. Not who was created before or after :)
This concept baffles me simply because this may be argued til the end of time...
if time really ends. *shrugs *
I think its neat to see everyones different point of view. I myself have wondered this. but my brain is fried from tryin to figure out the equation of buyin two packages of socks.. doing laundry and the dryer monster eating them.. :: sigh:: which means I had to buy 2 more package... will it ever end!!!!
No, it will never end.
The sock eating snorfle monster daily makes its rounds to dryers all over the world.
As fro the topic of this thread ... Yes, it is interesting to hear different peoples' opinions. My opinion is simply this:
I don't know. I don't know whether things have always been , just shifting and changing, or if there wasa moment when there was nothing and something came into being, or any of the other suppositions posted to date.
It will, eventually, be interesting to have a glimmer of these answers. Someday.
Im with Requiem, the things that fascinate us are those that although we like to think about, we simply do not know the answer to.
Im not a believer in God. I dont know if I am an atheist, although I used to be. The question is a very interesting one, but I thinkat first we need to wonder how time was created, and what was before that?
I was watching Men In Black the other day, the end bit where they zoomout fromour galaxy, and our universe turn out to be a marble that an alien is playing with. Always freaks me out!
i first want to respond to the sock response, i actually think that gremlins will choose dryers as dwellings and have a pure loathing of socks. back in the plane of exsistance their faithful allies, the gnomes, whom love socks (common they wear them on their heads after all) come in a will pick up any socks that the gremlins throw out for them.
ack hmmmmm, anyway back to the actual subject
i am actually a bit mad because Cncer said my idea before i knew about this thread, oh well, an alternate theroy i have which is probably full of many holes, is that we live in a quantim universe in which all things both do and do not exsist at the same time. in other words the mere fact that a quantim universe (should probably be known as multi-verse but that is a pardox for another day), any way the mere fact that a quantim universe could exsist made it happen, which means the creator of the creator was the creator. very confusing but if you put aside pre dispositions and look at it with an open mind i think you'll see my point.
and yet again none of this can be at all proven or anything, it is just a theroy i have
"any way the mere fact that a quantim universe could exsist made it happen, which means the creator of the creator was the creator"
Wow, now that is a very interesting and complex way of looking at it. I like it.
honestly i does depend on faith first of all..but in that sence...what about God doesnot? A higher being is here...what or who it is no one knows. There has been belifes as we all know through history about many gods, one god so on and so forth. I always ask people at my church this and they say he was just there. one day poof he just was. just poof. It sounds quite shakey to...or whole existance starting with a poof? but ah...what can you do?
In the beginning there was the perfect order of the void.
From that perfect order came entities stronger personalities asking is there more.
A jealous entity from force of sheer will said let there be light.
Thus was chaos introduced into the perfect order.
good as any ....
