i do not want to get anyone
mad at me,but this a quiestion
i would like to know....
i have noticed all these threands
poppen up on peoples profiles
and so on...and i know and i am
sure everyone elae does too,
that the longer you are here
the better your profile and so
on will get...but still leaves me
with the feeling of a poplarlity
contest...so may i ask
why is it that you must be the
top dog..the most poplar....
its like "come see,come see
what i have done..."type of
thing? and again i am just
wondering....

I think that being good at something and even more being better than others simply is a good feeling...it makes people happy

When you are on this site for a period of time you make many friends and bond with each other. You become like family. There are many lost souls out there just looking for a place to fit in, or call home. Vampire Rave is that place. It's not a popularity contest to see who's the best. Let me put the question to you this way, not that I know anything about you or am I assuming anything. But say you have brother or sister, or even best friend. They are really good at something, don't you want then to appreciated for or receive the recognition for that which they achieve? Does it not make you a little happy or excited for them because of how close you are. For a lot of us on here, my self included, though I don't consider myself much of a veteran as I've only been here two months exactly this day (LOL had to get that in) take pride in what we have achieved or in our "Art Work" not everyone can draw, nor can everyone write very well. This is our "Art Work" it is what we are, what we wish to express to others. There is nothing wrong in taking pride in one's work. It's those that will let it go to their head that have the problem with it. And if you look around and really read the threads, if you know the history between people you will see that it is only friendly competition between friends and family. Not an all out war of who's to be the King of the Mountain ... There's only one King and he actually goes by the name of Prince Cancer (ehehhehe LOL yeah alright, I'll wipe the brown stuff off later J/K)

First off Robin, I do not think what you wrote belongs in the forum as it sounds like a rant to me. To answer your question, the majority of people here care about their profile and invest considerable time creating one. This is all because they feel a part of the bigger community of Vampire Rave and want to achieve their best.

I hope that explains things to you, I would not want people who do take the time and care in making a good profile to feel offended by what you just said.

Well I've been here a long time and if you were to look at my profile its pretty bland /straightforward I did put quizze's in there 4 fun and well |i guess its jus a way of informing ppl to the best of your ability what your like, encouraging conversation amongst like minded individuals thus (hopefully) enriching each others lives.
Updates are also mentioned in case profile has been read/rated but ppl arfe like cats were jus all curious (hopefully won't get killed by it :) and a lil healthy "competition in the profiles is cool it encourages ppl to make their profile unique and stimulates imaginative wayz of making your profile unique/distinctive :) hope that helps now am off to class later y'all

i want to thank all who have posted so far and again i did not want to upset things.i also know all so well that cancer is the top one here...i have seen alot of peoples profiles and i have not rated low on anybodys profile(and never gave no one a one)every one has done great....
i was also wrong too that the poplararty contest was streached a bit.and a again i am sorry if i p*ed off anyone and pop in and chew me out anytime...here and my profile if you wish....blessings....

I just want to keep a higher rank than my friend, who referred me, lol. I'm already 3 ranks higher than her, then again, her mom makes her get off after awhile.

I think the rating system, more than a popularity contest, is a way of aging, maturing, and showing you're worth to everyone else.
usually when a person is rating, they take into account, the personal feelings towards the person being rated, therefore influencing that person's rating to some degree.
also, if you've stuck around, then hopefully you've learnt a few things that you can help the newer users to learn, or point them to the people that you respect and learnt from.

Your profile is an extension of you, it can be what ever you want it to be.

A hidden mask, or an open display.

Popularity? Most people want to be popular, it's only nature.. competition in most forms is healthy.... gives you a sense of purpose....

I think this thread has been answered by many sweet sharing people.
