Ok, so my brother, my husband, and I went to see this last night and I have to totally agree with Cancer in the previous spoiler thread. There was just too much that wasn't right or wasn't enough, or just too much.
But, it was a fun night out with my two boys. That's what counts.
i have not seen it yet but i will really soon since i have all the time in the world
I want to see this so bad, but have not had the time or the money to go see it, oh well. Maybe I'll wait till it comes out on dvd and by it then.
Ok, so now folks have seen it. And, lots of us have our little problems with it. What I'd like to know is if those of you who've seen it enjoyed it? I mean in the context of "I sat through 2.5 hours and, if I don't nitpick it, I got my money's worth."
I really did like it. Yes, it has it's holes and problems, but compared to a lot of the tripe that is coming out of Hollywood, I thought it was a solid film. It's visually amazing in a way that only Lucas can produce. I think...and I'll probably be crucified for this, but it is in many ways, just as groundbreaking as the original Star Wars. I mean if you watch the original, it is kind of silly. The story, w/o the dazzling special effects, is pretty mundane. As Cancer has pointed out, it follows a tried and true formula. So, why are we so taken with it? I had a bit of the same "WOW!" feeling after Ep3 that I did after Ep4. From the first stunning space battle, I was sucked in.
Any other thoughts?
Oh, and DO NOT wait to see this movie on DVD. Not unless you have a full theater set up in your house. I'm talking 100" screen and full Dolby sound. Save your pennies and see this film in a stadium seating theater with the full "HOLY SHIT" sound system. You won't regret it. :-)
If G.L. made new thrilogy for fans only no one else would like it! Hollywood was not so corrupted then, when he was making ep. 4,5,6. If you want to earn some money you got to follow the trends so how I expected it to be, after seeing ep 1 & 2, ep 3. came out really good.
I thought it was good. I'm not a starwars geek like some people I know, but it was put together well. Another pat on the back for Lucas.
If you haven't seen it go ahead and do so. Even people that aren't fans will like it. If you aren't really up to date on the whole story rent the original three then see it or visa verca. *Is confused* anyways special efects and all were great including the battle scenes.
why! *falls to knees* why ! did i not see one person fight with a double side light saber!!! was Darth Maul the only person to master it?
According to the Star Wars Insider website, Darth Maul was the first known to construct and wield a double-bladed saber.
In the computer games Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, it is possible to construct and use double-bladed sabers. But, these games take place hundreds of years prior to Episode 1 during the Sith Wars.
I saw it, and no it wasn't at the theater. I just cannot handle the crowds.
My friend got his hands on a post production bootleg DVD. I know. Evil. But it beats throwing up in the theatre lobby because there are too many freaking people.
I, too, did enjoy this movie. I choose not to pick it apart for inconsistencies and such. It was simply a fun movie. (Yes, I am a Star Wars Geek, but I can enjoy a flick for its own value.)
Well, I do have a 100" screen... I wanted bigger but was limited by the dimensions of my viewing room. I don't have THX sound, only Dolby Digital 5.1... But I get by.
In the literature, Darth Maul wasn't the first to wield and/or construct a double sided litesaber. The first was Exar Kun, a very powerful Sith Lord who led the Sith Empire during the Sith Wars. Darth Maul sought to emulate Exar Kun (Source: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter).
As to the movie....
I didn't want my money back like I did after I got done watching Matrix Revolutions. So there's that...
Just a few simple tweaks and Episode 3 could've been brilliant:
I think it may be because of my slight lack of interest in these films...
But I almost feel as though I really don't need to watch it anymore.
Between Jason, Cancer... and my five year old nephew ("... and the lady had the babies...and then she died....." From the mouths of babes i tell you...) I pretty much know what happened :)
"... Ya read the T.V. Guide, ya don't need a t.v...." - Grandpa, Lost Boys.
Yay! New thread number II
So that's what Quai Gon Jin [Liam Nesson] (yeah, spell check doesn't work) said!
"He (Anakin) will bring balance to the force" because there were TOO many good people (or something like that)
I get it..thanks Mr. Cancer..
And oh yeah, Jason, Bro...don't worry, I'll get the dvd soon and yes, I sort of have a Dolby sorround! heheheh!
=)
My co-worker is a star wars fan also. He watched "Revenge of the Sith" and wasn't pleased with it. Many people I've spoken to have problems with it. This should tell you something. I'm still in the Love/Hate department.
ya know i never really thought of it like what Cancer said. 2 jedi and 2 sith, it makes some sence now.(the balance of the force thing) but Yoda should have kicked Palpatines butt in the senate building
psh they both suk its all about the Bounty Hunters the force aint got nothing on me!!!! hahaha, i wanted to see so much more bounty hunter action but ep.2 did fulfill that ^_^
i saw this movie last weekend. it was how i was expecting it would be, and i didnt think it was anything special. but it still was fun.
I watched it last night on DVD and I thought it was pretty good. I have never read any of the books so I don't really know what was left out or what was wrong. But from my veiw point of just wanting to watch a movie out here it served its purpose, I enjoyed it.
Good info on Exar Kun. :-) I need to read the Maul books, I guess.
100" screen. Wow....
Yes, The Almighty over there has his own movie theater he took his time building these past several months.
Aside from that.... hows this for an appropriate avatar for this thread?
ROFLMAO
Jason fault. :|
It's hard to keep up with all the Star Wars books. The best online list I can find is here. 116 books are listed.
A search of "Star Wars" at Amazon.com in the Books section returns 1999 results. This is more than just novels though... Lots of books written about Star Wars, game guides, comics, pop-up books, etc.
Ten years ago I would have said I've read about half of the Star Wars books. As of today, I've probably read about a third. I haven't been keeping up with them. The last one I read was Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter and that was right after Attack of the Clones came out (3 years ago).
Fans have varying opinions on the quality of the Star Wars novels. I love every one I've read. I like the The New Jedi Order series, as it deals with the Solo/Skywalker children. However the Yuuzhan Vong took a while to get use to (the new villains).
I also like the Thrawn and Young Jedi Knights series.
Hey cancer do you know any good Star wars novels that are based around bounty hunters? i would like to read that.
There's a trilogy called The Bounty Hunter Wars. It conflicts a lot with Episode 2 (the Mandalorian's and Jengo Fett).
There's also a singular novel called Tales of the Bounty Hunters. I haven't read that one.
I read Tales of the Bounty Hunters several years ago. I enjoyed it. It's a collection of short stories, if I remember correctly.
And yes, overall, I rather enjoyed Episode III. Much more then I or II. Despite all it's problems and inconsistencies.
I've been killed in the debate by my 10 years younger brother, to whom I gave the copy of EP.4 few years ago and made him a fan!? He had all the arguments as Cancer has why the movie sucks,(he read all the books, played all the games (this is Serbia it can be done... ;> )) but he said that no matter that, movie was cool to him!
I think that we all went to theaters only to see flaws of the move and not to actually enjoy it!
You cannot watch this movie and judge it alone. It's part of a trilogy. You must look at all three movies to rate it. A trilogy is really one long story.
In the original trilogy, it all fits together. Nicely. Empire is beyond words and set the bar for future trilogies (Star Wars or otherwise).
Watch episodes 1, 2, and 3 in succession. Tell me how it fits together. It's crap. It's not coherent. It's all over the place.
There is no excuse. The man had virtually unlimited resources and time, and look what was produced. Crap.
Yep, it's crap because first two episodes were crap! You can't put in one episode, that supposed to be a key episode, all the things you missed in two earlier episodes, after all that was produced about the Star Wars world! Thank God we don't have "bullet time" while two jedi's fighting!
Was that the Millennium Falcon landing in that one scene or just another ship that looked like it?
Just a ship that looked like it.....
A corillian cargo style transport.
god I feel like a geek......
i dont want to step on any ones tail here but, you have to remember that ITS A MOVIE! not every thing is goin to be tie up tightly with a little bow, every movie has its flaws, an i have to scratch my head somtimes about Locus somtimes, the movie was great in my opinion, an im intitled to that. it was worth my time an money to see it
Thanks Hawk, I thought it was still pretty cool to put it in there.
the only real complaint i have is that, i would have liked to see more force powers done, like in clone wars the animated series thats been running on tv
i'm just too lost, i liked the movie but just because i had to go out more to forget about my ex and do something so I HAD TO concentrate and like this movie.. but it wasn't that good as ep1 or 2... lucas dissapoints me soo much sometimes..
Watch ALL six and read the books and also the timeline (yes it's long and fun!)
Hawk and Olive: Guess what? It has been hinted that the transport is, indeed, the Falcon. I stumbled upon that tidbit when I was looking for easter eggs in the new movie...
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/28/1728252&from=rss
Slashdot is a pretty reliable source for info. If they reprinted it, it's not total bullshit.
http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii/bts/production/f20050526/
That one has lots of eggs with pictures.
If it is the Falcon, it's just another of those silly coincidences that the movie could have done without.
I'm surprised Yoda wasn't piloting the Falcon. I can just see Lucas making him the owner before Lando.
Yoda knows Chewie... Chewie could've introduced Lando to Yoda when he was ready to sell.
And then Yoda told Lando to out up the Falcon as wager against Han Solo.in a game of Cloud City Hold'em!
LOL
so your saying Chewie came with the ship when han solo got it from lando. I think Chewie and Han already knew each other. I think but i'm not sure.
yoda said he had good relations with the wookies, it was never implied that yoda an chewi were best friends
for all of us that have not read the books tell us how Han solo an chewi got aquainted in the first place
It's in the Han Solo trilogy... Han always liked wookies. His first wookie friend was an old female wookie who was the cook on the ship he was on. I think he was 17. She gave her life for him at the end. I forget the circumstances.
Han runs away, forges his identity, and joins the Empire as a pilot. Later he meets Chewbacca.
From Starwars.com
For their brutish strength and technological savvy, Wookiees were enslaved by the Empire for use as labor. For a time, Chewbacca was a slave, toiling away for the betterment of the Empire until an impudent Imperial cadet named Han Solo freed him.
Drummed out of the military, Solo had few options but to return to the fringe lifestyle he knew so well. Chewbacca swore loyalty to Han, and became his partner in crime. The two of them became a well-known smuggling duo. When they came into ownership of the freighter Millennium Falcon, their exploits became legendary
That's interesting. I knew the books were out there, but haven't ever taken the time to read any of them.
thanks cancer, when ever i have had a qustion about the star wars universe you have come thru for me, i apreciate that. i also have down loaded the files you posted in the last thread, with the time line an star chart, real interesting.
I thought Sith was a cracking film. I reckon it's up there with the originals which isnt something you could ever say about Phantom or even clones which was still a good film
i have anouther qustion for you Cancer, i seem to have so many latly i know. I heard Darth Maul referd to as the one with a tattood face, was it a tattoo or is that a trat of his race?
it's either a tattoo or paint... his race doesn't has whiteish skin (assuming Bao-Dur from knights of the old republic 2 is of the same race)
I don't recall that information being in the Darth Maul book. I do think I read somewhere that it was tatoo's, but I can't credit a source.
Darth Maul was a Zabrak. The following is from the official Star Wars: Galaxies website:
Zabrak are humanoids with prominent vestigial horns and well-developed mental willpower. The species is divided into a number of different races, each exhibiting different horn patterns. Zabrak are also fond of intricate facial tattoos designed to reflect their individual personalities.
Zabrak were one of the earliest spacefaring species and they have explored large sections of the galaxy. Their homeworld of Iridonia is a frighteningly harsh planet, which has led many Zabrak to settle on other worlds, including Talus and Corellia . The Zabrak also maintain eight colonies throughout the Mid Rim region of space, and most Zabrak actually identify themselves by their colony first and foremost. All members of the species speak Zabraki and Basic, but they may adopt local languages as well.
thank you Cancer an Jason for finding the information for me
No prob. I could talk Star Wars all day. LOL If you like Star Wars and are into computer games, take a look at Star Wars: Galaxies. You might get into it.
GEEKS...you are all GEEKS....
Star Trek is a much better series anyways :)
