Hi,
i was wondering that could really be nice to add to all current features in VampireRave.
At Edit Profile/Portfolio, i believe that, if there was a "Preview" button, that would be very usefull, since people would be able to work on theyr profiles/portfolios, more easily.
With a preview button, people would be able to update, when they were sure that everithing was in place.
What you all think?
You have the same effect by just editing, saving, and viewing your profile, so long as you keep backup copies and do your editing in a text or html editor instead of from the edit profile screen.
Might take a couple of extra clicks, but I don't find it to be a big deal.
both sabbat and toilet-duc make valid points ... it is always important before hitting save save the code from before if your not using site generated layouts ..and save the one you will be using in case of something going wrong ..
but using a text editor is a good idea
but it dont hurt to have a preview either that way you can check as you go ..its something to consider anyways
*nods* i always use a text doc with a backup of my pro, its much easier, all in all the same effect in the end.
Thats all true, but what i mean is, it is better to just preview, to see if it is all good, instead of pressing "update", seeing something wrong, and have to go fix it, and during that time, people coming and going, watching your profile, etc...
Preview button... it would be useful for the more lazy people but its not such a bad idea, but not much of an inconvienence at all. It all goes to the website editirs and whatnot if you bring it to their attention just to make a point. But whatever.
Yup I do that as well when I have certain things I change on my profile I keep a copy of it in my text doc.~NFA
its a good idea but tbh all you have to do is click on view profile, quickly check to make sure the changes you have made are there and if there not go bck to edit profile..... then agin i can see why the preview button would help
I don't mind going back and forth. It wastes some time, but a preview button would be nice anyhow.
Good idea but in the end you still get the same effect..
I agree with the others. Just be careful to back up everythingon notepad or MW and you should be fine. Otherwise it's just another trivial thing for Cancer to add.
As TD says, plus I think the man has a lot of other work, and this would be rather low on a list of priorities for site development by the sounds of it.
yes a preview option would be grand then i might actually like fixing my proflie
well i think of it as this. i like to save and look . 1 it gets me more pages. and 2 i can see it just as quick. i dont think it is needed.
I think a preview button would be cool...But I'm not too bothered by the fact that I have to click more often...I never really thought of making a back-up copy...I usually just remember what I added and the code and all that...
This might be an interesting idea to save some bandwidth. If you had a preview-button that acts locally, all the data wouldn't have to be transmitted to the server just to discover that it must be discarded anyways.
it would certainly be a good idea but it hasnt bothered me yet
I agree with ToiletDuck and Narakyndryn. It's redundant to have a preview when you can already do that by having a copy (that should be a must), and then go check the changes.
I think there might be some priorities on the line here, now with the Houses and the contests to organize; I'm fine with the "edit-view profile/portfolio" feature.
Come on people, it's not that hard...
Well the probl. is that its very hard to use an external html coder software cause they are built to create whole sites not vr profiles..
N vhy is this prewiev function neded? -its cause wery few of the newer members knows how to use html in vr to its full extent.. and its cindof hard to get html code to work inside vr propely if you dont know it so good.. n cause you dont use a full html document in your profile code it gets abit ahrd to wiew it in webb designing software as dreamvever..
Thats why i have another suggestion instead..
That some one whit good knowladge to make a html coding faq for vampirerave whit the most trubbelsome codes and some of the more unkown codes that mostley spreads mouth to mouth in here..
Thats vhy a faq whit pics of the result linked to every code section..
And refernces to more full html tutorials as this would be more about the tweking and implementation of the code in vampirerave
Dragging totally off topic...
How about an inter-house 5x5x5 knockout copmetition?
I know I have trouble finding people to play...theres never anyone waiting when I get in there...(maybe I just smell bad..lol)
lmao@stabb*bad stabb keep on topic*
*giggles* if only we could do interhouse 5x5x5 but back on topic..i think a mw or notepad is the best way to do it and check it although jtmoongoddess made a suggestion and i like it because when you do it on wordpad or note pad and test it if theres a mistake well you have to click to change or fix so your pages viewed do go up .lol
ive always had two browers open..that way i can do what i need to do in my portfolio or profile in one and then check what it looks like in another..keeps from having to go back and forth so much
I think that a preview page would be just delightful but then again I am perfectly happy doing it the way I do because I love the addiction I have to this site.... lol
As said from other people it would be a layse people way out. Its not a bad idea, it might be put on th eideas list but it would go to the button of the list since I imagine there would be more imidiate situations to improve or fix in the site than this.Is not a bad idea at all.
Great idea.. I dod not read this whole thing.. but I have one more thing to add that might have already been mentioned here.. While posting in the forums I think there should also be a edit button there as well. It would make it easier for those of us that have an issue with major typoes.. ( LIKE ME ).. ha ha.
I like the "preview" button idea, but it still won't help you if you've taken so long to work on preparing your material, that you've unknowingly been logged off the site, due to seeming inactivity. That's the thing I wish someone could do something about. Perhaps a ..... "You Have Been Idle Too Long and Are About To Be Logged Off Vampire Rave. Do You Wish To Remain Logged On - YES or NO" ..... button. lol (Hey! I'm serious!) :)
But, yeah...I do like the "preview" button idea, for sure.
cajome: yaah the 20min inactive outlogging is pretty irritating when reding forum on multiple tabs n not updating the apges for more than 20min... n a pop upp box would be rely nice n ye should have like 3minute to pres yeas before ye get logged of..
Yay! You like me! You REALLY like me!!
Or, at least, my ideas. lol
What do you think the odds are of this...and the "preview" button idea...coming to fruition??
Well, has many people mentioned, and i agree, is that the "preview" button isn't that urgent. About the time that takes to logoff, i like the idea of the popup, it really is a nice idea, or that, or increase the time a bit.
The "edit" comments button, is also a nice one, but i dont concidered it urgent either.

I personally like the idea. I mean I can live with it the way it is and it is not abig deal, but I loke the convienance of this idea.
it wouldnt be a bad thing but i think i can deal with it not being there
A preview option would be nice, but not really required...
However, I can say from personal experience that you should ~always~ have a back up copy of your profile codes somewhere on your computer or on a disc: I didn't, and my profile disappeared! Needless to say, I was ~not~ happy! I'd worked very hard on my profile, and it will take weeks to get it as nice as it was!
Now, a VR Profile Backup option would be an excellent feature!
I think one of the original intentions behind having the preview, and correct me if I'm wrong is to hide the profile while it is being worked on. Under the current system , that is not an option. Is that what you were getting at?
It's not a bad idea. I do not mind going back and forth so it really does not matter to me.
I like the idea of a preview button even though I do save copies of my profile elsewhere. Mainly because, as I believe someone else pointed out on this thread, it's rather embarassing to make a mistake on your profile that really messes up the look and have people come through and see it in its screwed-up form while you're working on fixing it. I, for one, am sometimes called away from the computer and have to leave it unattended for sometimes hours, and if I'm in the middle of working on my profile, it would be nice to know that I'm not having some screwed-up version of my page up there for everyone to see during the time I'm not able to get back on and fix it. WIth a preview function, I can just leave it on the preview screen and come back to fix it later with the good version of the page still up for the public eye.
i think the currnet thing is fine but mabye thats just me
The way it is now is basically like a preview would just make things slower to add another feature I think. Not too hard to open a notepad or something and save your codes for later use anyhow.
The problem isn't tha fact that you can or cannot save the codes in a notepad file, but it is, like Falkyr said: "rather embarassing to make a mistake on your profile that really messes up the look and have people come through and see it in its screwed-up form while you're working on fixing it."
Yeah, it would be so much easier and take off extra time.
Whenever I work on my profile I put a message at the top saying so. That way people looking at my profile at that moment knows it is in transition. Truth be told, how many people are really going to look at your profile in the course of time you are updating?
Cajome: How about doing the stuff in the wordpad and once it is done then copy and paste the content to the browser after you log in Vr :)
Danzig that's a very good point in all actuality.
Seeing as thats been said and no ones replied to this thread in about 3 hours and it has gotten a good run and mix of ideas/opinions I think it's time to put this thread to rest.
