So, my mother stops by the apartment the other day. I was home and as the rare occassion as it was, I was actually up and dressed. The saying, 'your mother will always be your mother' echoed in my ear as I walked down the stairs to meet her at the door. It was the way I was raised. I greeted her as always, "hi, welcome to my apartment." We kissed on the cheek and walked up the stairs. She made herself home and we later had tea and chatted throughout the better of the day.

I have known my mother for; well, all my life. I have always welcomed her. I have always welcome all my friends that I met at the door. Never - ever, did one person, ever say 'don't welcome me' for what ever reason. Where in the Hell did some people get the idea that being welcome is rude? There are for too many profiles on VR that state 'don't welcome me,' for what ever reason. If someone was and have been on this site more or far more longer than you; there is no reason in Hell that they can not welcome you. Without you being all piss off about the matter. Loose the attitude!

One does not go to a house party and say welcome to the Host/ess of the party. That's just f*cking wrong. But if the Host/ess says 'welcome to the party', you don't get bent out of shape or piss off because you were been there for a hour already, or two. Do you?

There are alot of people here with attitudes. I am fully aware of the many types. I also know the many whys. I don't expect too many replies to this thread. Hell, I'm not really sure where to post it. But post it I will.

To those who are ready to listen, some free Billyman advice:

First, loose the attitude it will serve you no good.

Second, if you are really pissed then do something about it. Turn it into something postive and make it work for you.

Third and last, if you really want to change something, anything, you must do so from within. Does not matter if it is you, your family, VR, or the world.
All postive changes always start within.

I don't like to be welcomed to anywhere by someone who has been somewhere for less time than I have.
It's like if I go to a party, just arrive, and walk upto random people and start welcoming them to the party, even though I just arrived. I'd look like an idiot, wouldn't I?
The host of this party is Cancer himself, and he has already welcomed me to this party.
Another analogy would be living in an apartment building. You move in, people welcome you. Someone else moves in, they don't welcome you to the building, you were there before they were. You welcome them, yes, but not the other way around.

I understand your point BillyTheJust but it depends why you welcome the person.

It could be either a way to show your cortesy or just to say something to the profile cause you can't come up with something original.

And if the person doesn't read the profile, does it in that way his welcome loses it's significance of kindness?

Especially when I get the comment:Welcome,Rating:1 is that cortesy?Or it's just a rating to level up?In that case it would be simply rude not kind.

Anyway let's put it this way:

Imagine you have a new job and on your first day you tell a co-worker who has been working there since a year before:Hi welcome if you want help ask...wouldn't that sound a bit funny?

That's why I insist on saying that the Welcome has to have a significance not just a fake kindness or just to say something to level up.

I mean am not complaining cause people welcome me.I felt I had to say this cause I know others' reactions.I can understand the welcome cortesy but original messages are always preferred.I didn't pass about an hour or two writing about myself in my profile and coding it,after a lot of swearing and wanting to throw the pc out of the window, for it doesn't even get read.Sometimes I start to think to erase everything and leave it blank.

It is often hard to tell who is who here with so many people. Even just looking at ranking can't tell you that. I admit that I don't pay that much attention to the date a profile was created or when a person was last on when I rate a profile. I am busy looking at things more important to me, is there anything in the profile, how well do they express themselves by what they have chosen to put in it. If they impress me I let them know. And yes, I even use welcome at times. There is nothing wrong with that, because if nothing else that is wecloming them into my part of the world.

Oh, and before anyone tries to say about people being on the website longer than me... Well, using the logic that the members that have been here longer than me can welcome me, I am on the 3rd page of oldest members... The top of the third page of oldest members.
Theres 31 people who have been here longer than I. Those people can welcome me if they wish to.

I dont mind if someone welcomes me who just joined the page. It makes me giggle. I get more upset if i get a f**k off, for welcoming someone.
I still feel new to the whole thing so a welcome now and then wont harm :)

Well, from another angle, I don't like people rating simply "welcome" as that suggests that they have rated me purely for the damned sake of it, and theres no point in that.

Some people are RUDE. Thats the way they are. Theres not much you can do about it.

i totaly agree.. i am not much of a fan of people who are rude to me.. i dont really welcome people who say dont welcome me.. but i at least rate there profile.. most of the time i see they say dont welcome me because they where on here before and already feel welcome.. i think that if you had a profile and got it deleted. making a new one is like make a new life .. so it should be welcomed.....

I personally liked being welcomed when I first got here. Same goes for the bites, I have many friends here that started with a welcome or a bite...

I agree with bill "LOOSE THE TUDE", this is the ONE place you don't need it...

I welcome the newbies...Billy you are right...it's courteous...I notice that other members may still welcome me...I think that they want recognition for something...and if I spent any time trying to figure out what...it may turn out to be a very simple thing...but I don't...those posts cease to exist when I leave my profile page.

I for one like to be welcomed, as a vampire I may not enter without being welcomed. However once welcomed into a place I feel at home and feel as tho I have free reign to do as I wish. If your new and you welcome me, that just gives me another place to feel free. So Welcome away!

I don't really like getting welcomes after being here a couple of months. It kinda loses its meaning. The problem I have with it is that people put it in their stamps. Personally, if I leave a welcome in a comment, it is for the very newest members.

I don't believe it's worth getting upset if someone leaves the word "welcome" as their greeting. With some members complaining about stamping and now this it seems the beginning of dictating the "proper" way to rate and greet.

A polite "welcome" is just as nice as a "hey, nice profile".

I just think its funny in my situation because I've been on this site since September of 2004 and I'm still being welcomed by people who have not been here as long. I agree that being welcomed is a nice gesture, but some people don't want others to be nice to them. Why, who knows? I say continue to be nice to them and maybe they'll quit being so rude. People here are only trying to be your friend.

Billy, are you implying that people *need* a reason to bitch?

As to one of your suggestions (channeling hostile impulses into a more productive medium... Otherwise known as sublimation) I'd have to disagree. Sublimation is not commonly accepted as a form of long-term attitude and personality adjustment. You're better off addressing the root.

Salutations

It is my stamp and I will state it whenever I choose. Just as I will say “hello” to anyone I choose on the streets.

If they choose to be rude, the conversation is over and I will find others to chat with. It is only a way of greeting. Presuming to know more than someone can be nuisance, but none of us are infallible, take the welcome with a grain of salt. Who really cares who’s been here longer… it really has no relevance in the grand scheme of things.

There are too many people here to get bent out of shape if someone rubs you the wrong way. Just don't reciprocate the gesture, and get on with life because in the long distance a little kindness goes far further with people than rudeness.

people will always have an attitude, for some its a security blanket that they cant ween themselves from
but as the wiser folks here..we just need to shake our heads and move on...getting bothered by simplier folks will only take time and energy from other venues...

attitude are like buttholes..everyone has them but you choose to show yours or not and you choose to look at others ...

When I first joined VR, I got into awful trouble welcoming people who were far higher than me and had been on longer as well, even now I dont always get it right, but I do agree with Billy that to welcome is good manners.

Jeez I've been here since November 04, people still welcome me and leave me the classis

"Feel free to message me or an Acolyte for help".

But I think it's sweet and good manners. What is the point in kicking off? It's immature and just shows how things obviously go to peoples heads.
