Here are some general answers to your questions AD. i hope that these answered your questions :)
How do you define and or label what a ghost, poltergeist, entity, etc are?
labeling would depend on how many times its seen and / or heard. and what things that it does letting itself present. a ghost will usually show only to those that they want to and usually not a full appartion. but there are the ones that do thow fully as well.
a poltergiestis classified by the things it can do. there are many things associated with a poltergiest. a poltergiest can move objects. and actually move ppl and have a real bad smell. the objects that they can move just depends on the energy that the poltergiest posses, in which can be and usually is pretty high, and they make themselves known on thier own.
other supernatural or paranormal entities can fall into many other categories.
Do you use standard video equipment in your hunts or do you use equipment that can “see” into different spectrums of light and energy, if so what?
i use mostly general equipment on the hunts that i have done here recently. but have had infra red video lenses and heat and cold sensative cameras, plus black and white digital cameras and full color as well. i have done this long enough to do some of it old school lol.. tape recorders a fan and a mic. plus another old way of doing this is...takeing a mirror and set it back from and facing a television and sit and watch the tv screen. something else that is old school, make sure no one is going to be in the house or building that you are going to do this in. take flour and put a medium layer of it in the floor and leave. when you return, if you see footsteps in the flour then you may have a ghost. a ghost has weight in which enables it to leave a print in the flour.
Do you feel poltergeist are an extension of the uncontrolled energies of the living manifesting their anxieties, stresses and other emotions that have hit a boiling point and what are your thoughts on theories related to this line of thinking?
i feel that a poltergiest is more than an extension of their former selves. truely a manifestation that needs dealt with. there are many cases of poltergiests usually manifesting themselves to ppl that have anxiety and other psycological problems, but it is also known that they can manifest themselves to ppl that have nothing as well. some one that is troubled, even down to a woman on her period can actually pull them in.
What are your thoughts on the purpose or reason behind why ghosts exists? Do you accept the common theory that they are unrested spirits that have not moved on yet?
i do not accept the common theories at all. ghosts and the such exist because i believe there is another realm in this existance and it is up to ppl to realize it and do something about it. to prove it is something that takes hard work and perseverance. but there is also the skeptics, in which is good for the paranormal society. it causes a balance in thoughts and theories and it is something to be appreciated.
With your experience have you developed a way to measure or differentiate between a ghost and that of a lingering magical effect, localized energy or other supernatural artifact and if so what are the measurements?
i have found ways of measuring different things. all it takes is an emf meter. and knowledge of the surroundings and all things therin. a force eminating from a different supernatural cause will cause this little device to go nuts and sometimes the use of this and a small electro magnet helps as well. on an emf meter the numbers on it go from 1-10 (depending on style) and usually a paranormal phenomenom will read in between 2-6. to low for eye detection but enough to make itself known.

More personally to you: Is your work all research based or do you try to cleanse, purge or otherwise work with what you are encountering?
i used to do this for cleansing and the such...but now its a mix of research and working with the encounter. and i love every minute of it.
Do you feel or have research to show that ghosts have levels of living human conscience and intelligence or are they more animalistic in nature and function?
i feel that ghost are intelligent beings. the reason i feel this way is because... Example)..lets say that a family memeber dies. and has a significant other that they left behind, it is usually always the significant other that sees them. that is because the ghost itself is gaining and keeping the energy and usues it when it is in an area where that person can either se them or hear them. so i say that a ghost is intelligent.
