As Vampyres/Vampires do you feel that we are a people? a subspecies as many others see us or a bunch of nuts?
Do you feel we should have rights as a people for who and what we are, or should we stay in the shadows.
The way I look at things and YES I know that as many have stated my views don’t mean shit, but I look at things like this the Wiccans ,Gays and many other sub groups of people have rights and so should we..
personally i think they should be respected, the way i see it is 'you treat people how you want to be treated'
Everyone deserves respect regardless of human, vamp or were
Look many of us stay in the shadows because of those who put us down, I feel that if in one voice we said we are here! I showed people no we are not like the movies or books make us out to be and teach them what is what then maybe in time there will be less disrespect for our kind.

I'm not totally understanding the question here.
Are you suggesting "vampires" need to fight for social equality like homosexuals, ethnic minorities and the like?
P.S. and I would like to see what others of the community feel and think about it.
How are we as a People or group of people to be taken seriously if we just stay in the shadows?
i agree with khayman. we need to prove to everyone that we exist before we can even try to get rights.
"...ok my sister I see your point, but yet they have not proved God exist, but yet he and those who walk that path are still respected..."
The term "God" is used in reference to faith.
Over 90-some% of the people in this world believe in some sort of higher being. That far outweighs those you're speaking of in this thread.
ok I see your point MrD and you are right.
I feel we should say we are here and take it from there.
I beleive that we are a people that need to be respected
I'm not sure if its goth or those that are vampires, but those that dress in something out of the "main stream" seem to be shunned, disregarded and considered less of a person, similar to what the minorities in this country endure.
(although it seems whites are becoming the minorities..but that is another story lol)
I went to a family reunion and one of my distant cousins appeared with her new husband and children. They were dressed in black, with multiple peircings, purple streaks through their hair, black lipstick and ripped clothing. I sat close enough to overhear their conversations for most the day, including their interaction with their children. As the old family members were shocked, I simply stated to them. "Just because of the change on the outside, do you think they changed on the inside?"
This goes to show you even family has that type of reaction. It happens with anyone. So yes, I agree with my brother, in his belief that vampires need to deal with the same problems as other minorities.
Khayman that is true even some I speak of in this thread, but we still are a people.
I think in my opinion, that an indiviual should be treated as they treat others. But respect is to be given especially to an elder. Vamps, Lycan, Ghoul, which ever. It depends on the person. I accept them all.
lol I think I don't have to, why? because many on the site are from the Vampyric community
Depends on how you define respect. I respect all things and their rights.
Respect as in regard to superior knowledge, skills, experience on the other hand has to be earned
I think people should be respected independent of their beliefs, lifestyle, race etc etc. As for rights, what should vampyres be entitled to that they are not? The thing is, special treatment isn't available to most "outgroups" and when it is, people complain. My point is indivduals of alternative faith, lifestyle, manners fight to have access to the same chances as everyone else. Maybe I'm not understanding your question.
I believe everyone deserves to be respected, unless they disrespect others. As far as rights, I don't understand what rights affect u being a vampire. I'd like to understand, please explain.
The right to be who and what we are, with out fear of harm or being disrespected
genetically mutated..lol come on..get real. it sure sounds like fear is talking here. who is one to decide what is and what isnt? is it too far fetched or scarey to believe? let me tell you something here.. there is a HUGE difference between believing and knowing whether something is real or not. I know. I am. You confuse real with the role players and the movies. Because a scientific study isnt done, its not real, is that what you are saying? Because scientists havent "proven" it to you yet, it couldnt possibly exist? The analogy about god was a good one whether or not you agree with that..Faith was mentioned..is faith scientific? u believe in god, so therefore it exists? u dont believe in Vampyres, so they dont? How judgemental and egotistical of you.
you cant say from the bible if u have an open mind at all. where's the proof. cuz someone wrote something down in a book? You label us a subculture like goth. excuse me? You want to find out if we are real? my pleasure..come visit us in NYC..
Of curse, everything needs to be respected. Especially exquisite creatures, such as ourselves.
The vampire has been around for centuries, and will go on.
I think that until proven as a fact, the living vampire practices a form of religion. It is either a blind faith in one's nature or at least the promotion of oneself and the following of that nature as a faith.
I don't believe that living vampires need special rights afforded to them since any mystical faith is largely protected as a religious belief (especially if organized into groups like the Strigoi where you are literally members of a faith group).
As for the issue of respect, one has to make sure that it is earned. There are some who hamper that by making elitist statements or attempting to promote elitist beliefs. Trying to pass off living vampires as the next evolutionary step is like calling a regular person 'unevolved'. Asking if 'vampires rule the world' as I recall one thread posing, is not only farcical but an attempt to raise up living vampires to some higher status over 'regular humans'. Calls to remove 'non-believers' from the site rejects original statements of this site as based in the goth movement not the living vampire movement. None of these will garner any more respect for the living vampire.
I have to agree with MrD.
Rights and acceptances are two very different things. You have the right to freedom of speech and association which allows everyone to converse here at VR. Your are not being denied any right that would be bestowed upon others just because you are or believe to be a vampire.
Of course rights can be restricted if you are found mentally insane, but people who believe in leprechauns, ufos, and santa claus are still walking among us- so my guess is that vampire believers are no different.
scientifically my dear sister so are you saying that because of that we should be seen as so? or not right in the head?
Any form of live deserves respect and basic rights. Like the right to survive
Okay, do we deserve respect. Of course, just as anyone deserves respect. I personally do not care what other people think about me as a vampire. I am me, and if they don't like it, believe it, or even understand it, that is not my concern. I open my mind to many things and learn about all that I can. That is what I do. If other people want to learn about us, they will. I won't force it on anyone. It is their loss if they do not understand us.
I think we should just respected the people who respected us no matter what.....
There's a level of discourse going on that seems to promote the idea of living vampires being hunted or segregated. I don't know that I've really ever come across such problems. As was said before, what rights are currently being denied? Living vampires have the right to believe what they want. Much like a persons sex life, it is probably not something to tell everyone. I don't want to hear about my bosses sex life and visa versa. Many don't want to hear about a person's faith or fetish or belief in the mystical. If you choose to broadcast your personal life to everyone around you, you can expect some issues to arise either in the workplace or in your social life.
The earlier mentioned right "to be respected" isn't a right for anyone. Respect is earned.
I had felt he was discussing his issues on a personal level as that of a sanginarian who feels disrespected for his beliefs in a largely metaphysical (and therefore faith based) nature.
your right sis I didn't clarify I mean the Living vampyre of today not the Hollywood bullshit type, and as for this ( The earlier mentioned right "to be respected" isn't a right for anyone. Respect is earned.) Wrong Respect is not earned it is given till it is taken away for what ever reason, then it needs to be earned.
I would not walk up to you and say you are a dick because that would be disrespectful. Proper etiquette requires one to show respect to all, till they have done something to lose your respect.
I disagree with you completely. Respect has to be earned. I am not naturally going to give deference to a stranger, but rather take him only as a stranger with no preface or prejudgment- but that does not mean that I truly respet him/her.
i think that everyome should be treated with respect. people should get along wihtone another and not be so judgemental of others. respect is give when respect is gotten!
well said sevenn I see your point, and as to the other that is a form of respect!

Ok, well, really... people discriminated against are done so based on what is obvious in most cases.
Unless you kill someone by sucking out all their blood or turn into a bat in front of other people, I highly doubt people will discriminate, or even care that a person thinks he/she is a vampire.
Just for clarifications... I was only dreaming up ways that our rights would be restricted when I mention mental illness. There are plenty of "sane" individuals who are intrigued and claim to be vampires... But statistically there are the nut jobs in every population. It was a mere example and nothing of slanderous remarks about vampires.
As it turns out vampires are afforded every right that other subcultures are given... what examples do you have to offer that modern day vampires are treated differently under the law?
I personally would love the vampires to come out and state who and what they are. There are those who appear to blend in the mainstream and don't dress up in the gothic style but are still vampires. As for respect, I feel that everybody is entitled to it until there comes reason for said respect to be lost. Even the stranger can have dignity.
Clearly, there is a difference between lifestyle and species here, and in my opinion it is important to recognise that there is a clear difference between the two. If vampires existed on this planet earth then we would know about it, just as much if we knew aliens did.
I am assuming Ryu, that you mean a Vampire is a sub-species of the Human Race? I don’t think that has an appropriate place except perhaps in the mind of the beholder as there is no medical evidence to support that an alien form, such as a Vampire ever walked this earth. Well, unless of course you talking about Dracula ;) *bite*
Meeper ok well here in VA I was in a park reading a book some teens came by asked me for a smoke I looked up at them and handed one of them a cig they said thank you and I said you are welcome when they saw I had fangs they jumped up and ran away the cops came guns in hand and STATED WE DON"T TAKE TO KINDLY TO YOUR TYPE AROUND HERE FREAK!
Respect should be given to every body, no matter if it is asked. I do believe though that for any group to want to be respected there needs to be a movement. Someone to state their wants, right down the laws that are denying them their freedom. Their needs to be some sort of push for you to be recongized as a people. You can't hide in the shadows and expect to be respected, because the ignorant people are always going to disrespect you.
There needs something to be set up to educate the young and the ignorant of vampyres. I myself can't say that I am not ignorant of vampyres, because I don't know them personally. So how can I recongize them as a people, if they are trying hard to fit in with my own?
Of course vampires should really be respected! You don't want piss one of these bloodsuckers off!
But, really, doesn't everything deserve respect.
i think that is half the thrill, that there are so few of us that many don't really believe we exist. but on the other hand take for instance the self proclaimed vampire who ran for governor of minnesota. excerpt:

Vampire goes for governor
Voters in the US state of Minnesota may find a self-proclaimed vampire on the ballot for the office this year.
Jonathan 'The Impaler' Sharkey says he plans to announce his bid for governor today on the ticket of the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans Party.
"Politics is a cut-throat business," he said.
Eight years ago, Minnesota elected a former professional wrestler, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, as its governor.
"I'm a Satanist who doesn't hate Jesus," Mr Sharkey said.
"I just hate God, the Father."
But 'The Impaler' says he respects all religions and if elected, will post "everything from the Ten Commandments to the Wicca Reed" in government buildings.
Mr Sharkey has also pledged to execute convicted murders and child molesters personally by impaling them on a wooden pole outside the state capitol.
He has told the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper he is a vampire "just like you see in the movies and TV".
"I sink my fangs into the neck of my donor... and drink their blood," he said, adding that his donor is his wife, Julie.
Mr Sharkey says he is announcing his candidacy today, on Friday 13, because that is his lucky number.
now in this case Mr. Sharkey nationaly made the news in his run. the big question is should he have waited till he maybe got closer to the end of elections? or should he have announced this after he got elected, and if he did , how would it effect his governship? this is the step alot of people are afraid to take.
i come froma christian family. the other day me and my mother had a religiouse talk. she asked if i love her as a "good christian son". i almost laughed at the thought, but said i love you no matter what religion i am. then she threw in , well if you don't love jesus, then you can't love me as a son. then i said whatever floats you boat.
i guess the main point is we have to overcome our diversity as individuals , before we as a people can make any progress.
jay
@ Khayman... =)
The Post: NO, everything does not deserve respect. An argument can be made that pedophiles cannot control their actions, should we then simply throw up our hands and give them a welcome parade? Same with people who have compulsions to kill or any other sort of mentally driven behavior that people tend to frown on. If it is a mental distinction ALONE that causes someone to be different from the next person, there is no way to consider that one group (say vampyres) is a protected class without doing it for every single individual... which in effect destroys the idea of "class".
I for one, humbly agree with amalthearose and khay on this. I also believe that life finds a way for anything possible or impossible to exist. whether it be supernatural, or paranormal their bound to exist somewhere. I also hear, that vampires live in some deserted areas... and such. but of course, they keep their true appearances hidden from watching eyes. existence itself, can be mysterious in its ways if you believe it or not. you're never always certain, what is out there.
This is only my opinion:
Respect is to be earned not just given out on a whim for me.. If you want it you need to earn it. As for what others think of me.. I do not care... I am what I am and I am who I am.. I am no different then anyone else...
The phrase that comes to mind:
Do unto others... we all know it..
That is my thoughts.
i agree with most of what has already been said reguarding the respect issue. Everything and everyone should have a certain amount of respect though reguarding the individual of course. If this was to happen , the world would be a much better place.
Reguarding should vampires have the same respect as everyone else~ well they need to be believed by so many people first. I believe that the ones who are vampires and the ones who believe do have the respect, though the ones who are too pig headed to believe dont and wont respect what they dont want to.
That sounds like Virginia police! You did nothing wrong and were still treated like garbage. They should have had their asses hand to them for that one. All the more reason for vampires to stand up and make their declaration and to educate the ignorant to the truth on vampirism.
Any police officer approaching an unarmed person and stating, "We don't take kindly to your type here" would be subject to charges of police harrassment and unnecessary use of force as well as a possible charge of public endangerment and a host of other possibilties. That has little if anything to do with your fangs or vampire lifestyle/nature.
Yes i do think we should be respected!!
Why shouldnt we?
Its not as if we go around rapeing and molestering...
Its not as if we go around killing people for the hell of it...
All we want to do is enjoy the life we have without being shon for it....
I have taught my chrildren to respect others...........BUT if they dont show
it back then dont respect them......They know right from wrong...
Its wrong to judge someone or run them down and miss treat them because
they dare to be different!!
People even judge the autistic..........why because there not perfect? No
because there scared of them........they are scared of anything that they
choose not to understand......
Being vampiric doesnt make us monsters.......Therefor we should have the right to
be respscted and treated with alot more dignity then we have been getting..
But then again humans cant even respect themselves so therefor how can they show us respect!!!
Kudos for you fatalblonde, you've also hit the nail right on.
Yes i think respect is long time in order!!! We are to be respected for many reasions too many to list all at one time i am a vampire and do not see myself as nuts!! so respect it is a must!!!
I should mention that it's been debated before and there was little argument to the fact that vampirism is often parasitic. This would put it in a very different social class than most cultures, lifestyles or beliefs since it involves taking from others without return. It would also be fair cause for for the average person to exercise distrust (and even ostracism) of those that don't use voluntary donors.
And if it is ever in fact proven that living vampires feed off of other people's energy, then there could be legal reprecussions to that. You could find yourself in a position of having to defend your nature or prove enough control over it to satisfy questions of safety. In that situation, those who insist on referring to other people as food or prey would probably not be in the interests of legal leniance.
Everyone should be respected, but this is life there is always someone that will not agree with you or others, that is life and will most likely always be that way.
All in all everyone should be respected!
There are some out there that try to spread light on the issue but not a very good one.
Vampyre
That is one view on us but I say it's bullshit no disrespect but that is my view!
See that is thing, everyone is entitled to there opinion.
Would you say that it is bullshit for a child to choice to follow the Christian Religion as to another. It is a persons right to choice what they wish to do. If they wish to be judgemental on others then that is their choice.
I understand that it makes people mad but it is their choice to say and do as they please.
But I still believe that everyone has the right to be who and what they are not matter what.
I think they should be respected like anyone else out there they are their race of people out just like any race or color or any group of people. Is it truly crazy to believe in something like that no I dont think so cause if it helps you in your life to make it live it in a different life then by all means go for it.
SilentBlackRose...I don't wish to appear to unforgiving but your definition is part of an RPG wiki called Epic Legends of the Hierarchs which is based on a different planet (Battal) and not really related to "Earth".
http://elothtes.pbwiki.com/N00B%20page
See that is what I get. Lol for not fully reading.
Wow I am a loser sometimes. No biggy.
And thank you for clearing that up.
No worries...I suppose that this is often the case given the volume of different beliefs based around the living vampire.
Well, everyone in my opinion should and needs to be respected! And today in society if you look one bit diffrent you are apparently an outcast. Or well it is in my case as well as my boyfriends, which is sad. So I think everyone no matter what being should get and give respect to others!
I believe that as long as something is living, it should be respected, regaurdless of its gender, orientation, race, species... Do I believe that vamps should fight for social equality? Yes. Unfortunately, however, I don't think it is something the world is ready for. And when I say "world" I really mean "humans". But then again, we're never ready for anything, so go for it. :)
We deserve to be treated the way everyone else is. I don't think it is nesecary to reveal our nature to everyone and anyone. On here I think a lot of the people who you might tell wouldn't believe you due, in part, to so much roleplay so on this site I have no problem with it.

Seems this is kinda going nowhere. Here in the US- you have the freedom of speech and right to assemble. So you do have the rights. As far as respect and acceptance... those are personal choices people make and cannot be forced. Not unless you are in prison, the military, or have Joan Crawford as your Mommie Dearest.
all forms of life should be respected in retrospect of their race or gender each living thing has a right to live. if this is not what you think then you obviously have no respect for life vampyric or otherwise (this is my opinion)
In response to LordofNoctemAeternus post: In order for a "vampire" to be given rights, one must medically, scientifically and in ALL OTHER WAYS... PROVE that they exist.
1. A person suffering form the haemophiliac disorder associated with the lack of red blood cells due to anemia, Also known as the curse of the vampire.
2. A blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. This superstition is now prevalent in parts of Eastern Europe, and was especially current in Hungary about the year 1730. "The persons who turn vampires are generally wizards, witches, suicides, and persons who have come to a violent end, or have been cursed by their parents or by the church," (Encyc. Brit)
3. One who lives by preying on others; an extortioner; a bloodsucker.
4. Either one of two or more species of South American blood-sucking bats belonging to the genera Desmodus and Diphylla. These bats are destitute of molar teeth, but have strong, sharp cutting incisors with which they make punctured wounds from which they suck the blood of horses, cattle, and other animals, as well as man, chiefly during sleep. They have a caecal appendage to the stomach, in which the blood with which they gorge themselves is stored.
5. Any one of several species of harmless tropical American bats of the genus Vampyrus, especially V. Spectrum. These bats feed upon insects and fruit, but were formerly erroneously supposed to suck the blood of man and animals. Called also false vampire.
Vampire bat, a vampire.
Origin: F. Vampire (cf. It. Vampiro, G. & D. Vampir), fr. Servian vampir
Alternative forms: vampyre or vampyr.
is the fact well proven? i think so being a mild haemophiliac myself i know this rasearce to be true.( i searched it on the medi sites)
I feel that all people should be respected no matter what walk of life they happen to be following.
This thread is so confusing to read.
As far as I can there are 4 'vampire definitions' in use: the mythological vampires, the Hollywood vampires, the role-playing vampires and the modern vampyre [I think I use that spelling correctly in this] who adopts a vampire lifestyle based on various personal beliefs
As lots of people have said in most modern countries everyone has rights - including the last 3 vampire categories
Now we turn to respect - that has to be earned - it is not a right. Litter-louts have rights but can't expect respect.
There are some people who will find the whole vampyric lifestyle repulsive. They have their views, vampyres have a different view - you cannot expect either to respect the other.
Vampyres seem to chose to keep themselves hidden (isn't that part of the lifestyle ?) so how can they expect people to respect them, if they don't give them a chance to understand what they're all about?
At the end of the day, does it matter?
LordofnoctemAeternus I agree with you. It is time to make a stand. I am proud to say i am a vampire, and I require respect. Don't we all.....I have noticed you can mention the word vampire and people think your nuts..... I am proud of my nature.. And I am tired of being looked down upon for it. This is only my opinion and on many cases i am sure it will be noted it doesn't mean shit, but just letting you know i agree with you.

ARTEMKA
have you even researched the vampiric curse? you will find it is an actual illness.
and yes it does matter if you respect others shouldn't you expect respect in return?
I would argue that most porphyria hemopheliacs do not consider themselves vampires and that no medical illness is publically referred to in the medical community as such.
I think all living things should be respected not just vampyre
Although there IS reference to vampires in the Elder Scrolls version of porphyric hemophia but that's back to RPGs and Video Games:
Porphyric hemophilia is a disease in The Elder Scrolls series of video games wherein, after three days (72 hours) without treatment, the player character is turned into a vampire. The name is a variant of the real life disease porphyria, which has been associated with the vampire myth, "hemophilia" being Ancient Greek for "love of blood".
A Message For our kin who feel lost.
Yes, we are not the same, but that is what makes us who, and what we are.
That difference that sets us apart;
Is what makes us, us.
We laugh, cry, love, and live as they do but we are not them,
Nor should we try to be.
We have a need to feed and it is real.
We are a beautiful people who have the right to live as we are.
We should not have to hide to fit in with them, be proud of what you are.
Don’t ever let someone make you feel less then you are.
Always remember you are beautiful!
Our world and theirs’ is the same.
The fact that we are not blind to the real world,
We can just see what is there and that makes us special,
They call us evil because of what we are,
No we are not! Is the lion evil to the Gisele?
I am here to tell you that you are not alone; there are many others out there who feel like you, and live as you do.
We are a people and we should be proud of who we are!
No matter what walk of life you are from or what path you walk we are the same.
So Live, Love and Laugh!
Be happy with who you are, if they can not love you for who you are,
They are not worth your love.
Walk with your head held high.
Carpe Noctem!
Thank you all for your Views
Yours in Blood and Shadow,
