i have always thought bout this. is this life real or is it just a dream that some higher being is dreaming?

Why does it have to be a higher being that is dreaming... why cant it be me. You are just a figment of my imagination that outside of my interaction with you, you do not exist really. Because this is my unconscious dreamland and you cannot prove otherwise.

All of this is highly spreculative depending on the author and unproveable either way. Funny how perception and reality interact.

that is true but then yet again with all of the people in the world how can we all be in the same dream. or r we all a dream of many different higher beings. i just can not begin to think of what is beyond this world. or if there really is a great beyond.

what is a higher being and if we are its dream then that would have t o be one sadistic higher being i believe that this life is our own

It doesn't necessarily have to be a dream. Our "reality" could be anything - the human race could be the equivalent of a colony of ants on a whole other planet we had no idea existed. There's no way of knowing.

that is true but with every thing that has happen what does it all mean in the end for the people living in this dream. do we die when he or she awakes or do we just fade away in to nothingness

ok if we are but a dream and the dreamer wakes then how and why do we remember our past lives or even closer what happened the day before

fanman that is true. but with all mortals and even people like us wonder of the end of days and what is held for us on the other side. but the real ? is do we sit here and ponder this afterlife or do we deny it and continue to live in vain.

What is this reality, other than a dream for some other reality...?

honestly i would hate to find out if my life was just a dream i would hate to wake up myself and findout that i am not the same person i was but then again i guess that is were our past lives come into play aswell

We are real, we live, we die. But we also dream, imagine. and believe. So long as we dream and we create a world, so long as we can imagine a whole different world theres a world there, if we believe it is real it is real.

Are reality is are dream and are dream in are reality. What we think we see, we see, what we do not think we can see we do not see we do not see.

Are we some world in a greater role playing game that some thing is playing. Are we all just some character in a book?

No we are as real as we want to be, for we are human and much more.

I'd like to think, if indeed this is some sort of dream, that it is my dream. That I am possibly just a figment of someone's imagination is a little hard to think about.

However, I think we are more real than that... but I suppose reality can be relative. I consider many things "real" to me that others would think less than real - like vampires, for instance. ^.^

How can we tell? I believe that if there is some sort of higher power controlling, or at least manipulating, us, s/he/they are sadistic, or at least indifferent to our feelings - because whether or not I am "real" to them, my experiences and feelings are very real to me - the most real I could ever know.

I think we have all thought this question. My thought sometimes is this. We supposedly have our lives flash before our eyes at the moment of death. What if all that we percieve to be reality is just a memory of our lives. Or maybe we ARE the construct of another entity. Either way, it's all perception. But if you are feeling daring enough, do whatever it is you've always wanted to do. Whether it be kill, maim, fly. And see how real things get.

Well to me unfortunately this life is no dream, looking at the world today, I would not say this was a dream, but a ongoing nightmare full of death, decay and destruction. If this is what a higher being wants to dream then so be it I want out of it...

i have pondered that question for ages...there is a great movie out there called the 13th floor it depicks us in a computer and all the degarviews etc etc is a contection into another computer system....even sliders depicked we r paraell plans with everyone co-exsisting, who nows wat it is but there has to be some reason

The Matrix movies pondered this question. And we really won't know the answer until we die, but if it is all a deam, then when will we know when we wake up? It's kind of like trying yo find an exact answer to the mathematical question of what is Pi. It goes on till infinity.

Well if's some one elses dream please tell them wake up. Sorry. I have wondered that myself many times and I still have not come up with an answer. When life is hard it would be nice to think that it is all just a very bad dream in some one elses mind. But until I am proven wrong I would have to say that the life I have is real. But then again reality is what you make….or some thing like that.

i think that it is all a dream thought up by alot of people...there is no higher beign...we all just live the dream...and yeah seven it does..

but with all of that said. can this life be real. they talk bout there being this mersiful god who is loving. but then allows all of this death and chaos to reign upon the world i think not. i think this life is a very bad night mare and has flashes of hope emmbeded in them to keep us happy. but either way how can live if we can not see what has made us this way today.

I dont believe in god but in his defense...Why is there such misery/death as you said...Well, right now we have a medium of happiness and sadness, if we only had happiness, how would we learn to appreciate, or know what it is? We have to have sadness, or we wouldnt appreciate happiness.

that is true. but every day that me and my loved ones and my friends go on we see and feel like this life is a cruel dream and that we are puppets on strings of the dreamer. but what if that there is no afterlife there is no higher being and this is has all been a dream what happens to us when the hour glass runs out of sand for us.

i've wondered that too. like, what if there is just one person who controls everything (no not god) just, like we're a very long dream? or, what if we're already in heaven or hell (another godly thing, but still, like i said in a different forum, i talk about that at certain times)

we XT that is something that i have ponder my whole life and all of my past lifes. what is really there and what is all a dream. it is impossible to see where the dream ends and the reality of our life begins.

lol hey hells. how can this life be nothing more then the dream of a mad man when u see all of the death and the ways these souls die.

that makes sence but put this on for size. what if after this dream there is nothing else no more dreams no more life just nothingness and all of our life all of our hopes and all of our futures fades in to the darkness never to be obtained.

Life is a bitch, then you die. If you feel you're a puppet on strings maybe it's because you dont feel in real control of you're life...This world is cruel but I always feel in control of my life, I dont feel like a "puppet on strings" as you say, whatever I do is because it's what I want, and I can honestly say I have not one regret

Well, I don't think it is a dream. To me, life can be more like hell. Then when I die, it might be like a dream. No one knows for sure.

This is real life. Trust me, it does not get any more real than this. If this life was a dream, don't you think it would have like happy endings for everyone?

but in the end when we die there is no happy ending what if there is only more hell for us. and even more suffering. the only one that can ever the riddle is the wheels of fate and i hate to say it but they are not talking.

I have often thought the same way only I have always wandered more along the lines that we are in a coma or something of that ilk and when we die here then we wake up there. Strange I know.

I've thought about this before as well! It's like what if none of this is real? Am I dreaming? Is someone else dreaming? Will I wake up if I die? Can I die truly? Then I think, does anything matter if this is a dream?

I always believed that we dream but I don't really know if we dream we are living. If we are, why haven't we woken up? Is this just a dream in a dream? I don't know. It's really intriguing but noone really knows.

To be in a dream, that you cannot control, does it make us any less important, is death the end of the dream, a pathway to our desires and fantasies, that which are dreams.

Personally, I think this life is as real as it gets. Or better, as real as you make it.
Some people do live in a dream of their own, neglecting their life entirely, whether by choice or not.

Well, if this life is someone's dream, I would have to say that this person is just a little bit sadistic. I mean, look around us, don't you think.

I can remember discussing this once with my English teacher (yes, i had an ace English teacher). She was talking about what about if what were was dreaming was the real world, and what he percieved to be the real world was actually our dreams?
I don't know about anyone else, but I have had some very strange and random 'dreams'- so the real world, following this theory, must be a scary place!

I like the idea of life being a dream, it opens up the idea of everything being possible, so long as you strive for it at least. though i am farely aware that is not particularly entirely true, it is a nice feeling.

Either way, i think it would be an ideal world if it was a dream, not a nightmare.

I would have to say that this is real because there are times in life that have been too painful; that we thought we wouldn't live through. Yet we did. If it had been a dream, we would have woken ourselves up. That's how dreams work.

life isnt a dream. because everyone has a different veiw of things, people meet new people and remember that person. if everything was a dream everyone would look different every time you see it. and how would you explain our dreams?

Maybe it isn't even a higher being, maybe eacho one of us are figments of ones own imagination. I've thought about this as well. Maybe we are all sleeping and interacting through our dreams..it is highly probable..but better to go with the flow than have to think of scientific explinations and such.

I could take either side on this behalf. In my own opinion, "life" is real, just as dreams are. You have them almost every night, so why are they not real? Sure, you can't physically do or return back to your dreams, but they still happened.

It all depends on a persons perspectives.

I think that for some this life is real and for others like me this life is just something a higher being is dreaming.

If this is a dream,like others i want out, The matrix how quaint. I dream that intwines with others of this Decay planet. I believe we are our own dreamers of the future and the past. no other Being. like Zues who greeks believed determined every hour of their live. No Wake me Up.

As I just wrote on another thread the quantum physicists believe that you can't have a universe without mind entering into it. Even when you are sleeping you mind is going. It doesn't stop!

I think that you make a good point My Lord Fangor. We are all part of a collective reality. Have you ever watched the movie: The Waking Life. I recommend it highly!

Does this really matter or is this question more of a "what if" kind of question. Bottom line does not change with life, dreams etc.

We all have the opportunity to lean and expand our thought process. Just because a book is not real, does not mean it cannot teach people basic lessons that they can use to enrich their lives.

So regardless of real or no, I will continue as I am on the search for becoming more than what I started with.
