of course there is the stories of once you have been scratched or bitten or even drink the blood of one it says that u will become one on the first full moon after it happens
If you read Billy and Trivia's posts on duality of spirit thred / archetypes that may help.
Lycanthrope is the disease, where one preceives themselves to be a wolf or *werewolf*.it is basically a chemical imbalance in the brain, that produces excessive body hair...elongated fangs and nails. Also makes the person believe they have superhuman strength and agility, that goes along with the *werewolf* mythlos
well they say that a mortal was once cursed for a wrong he had done and that he was doomed to live a half life.
The curse had a catch to it he would only be that way for three days out of the month. The night before the full moon, the full moon and then the night after.
then if they bit anyone then the curse would go to that soul for it got into there blood stream.
but don't forget that there are other myths to. One states that they can change without the full moon that they have that choice. They can even heal themselves. But the halflings cannot
but that is another myth in itself
hope that clarrified somethings for u
I've only heard of the two theories, the one Lycanthrope disease, and the one where it evolved and was passed down heredicaly, and in both i've heard of it being transfered through bite/scratch as well.
I do enjoy this thread, I had recently posted a trhead stating when in fact was the first werewolf recorded and it eventually died do to lack of knowledge on the subject. the insight of how to become a werewolf bitten or scratched I believe is a movie myth on this other than that no recorded (i believe) lycan has been claimed to developed this way. but would love to read it if so. always been fasinated with this, and not much material for the ages of yester years have come forth in this subject. only recent developments of todays society. But as stated would love to read accounts if any one has this. please message me or I will check back here.
Like I have said in another thread, perhaps some people should not make assumptions if they do not live the life first. It is the same as Vampirism, except the motives are different. It is in your nature, the same nature you are born with. Perhaps when you mind is ready, you will come to understand or be "awakend" to it. You are not made, or made to be aware, you just are.
beside with the white jacket and the white bloose, I think its like a vampire, you are or you are not a werewolf, there is no in between.
Now can i have my white jacket?
u are not crazy no one is crazy u have to look and listen if u think that people crazy then truely u are alone.
There are creatures out there who roam the dark and own with everything they have.
These may seem all myth and legends to u but hey the thing about myths and legends is that sometimes they are true. So don't knock the idea down i hate it when people do that. It just shows how close minded u really are
Some people can't tell between a RPG and real life when it comes to certain things in our little world, there is (made up storylines...RPG),actual history, and Myth.Somewhere down the line people started believng what was said in RPG is fact.Read about Lycanthropy, lycanthrope was used in the movies Underworld;not used before until then.Im sure everyone beleives what they choose to but learn the fact first. That is how alot of *Vampire* myths began, rumor and storytelling.
but how can we know the facts when the rest of the world never knows the facts themselves?
Mythical Origin of the Werewolf
by Sabine Baring-Gould
I have no idea how one becomes a true werewolf if it's even possible. I do know one thing, I keep an open mind about it so I believe anything can happen.
Anything is possible, yet like us as living vampire would we not say there are in fact living werewolfs, I am sure scientist some where have been dwelling in the idea of this, strength and heightened sences. a bite a scratch. things are possible
I thought werewolves had to be born as a werewolf the same as Vampires.
i always wondered do werewolves have immortallity such as vampires do i know i have heard of the myths but that is all
Once again,Nephilim.
What is behind the theory?
Vampires and other crossbred creatures where the result of genetic manipulation and crossbreeding.
Thus the terms,Fallen Angel, the Fallen etc...
my grandmom once told me that..people shape shift in an animal..sometimes in dreams or visions..some times taking there guide form..i really don't understand why..but some times it is needed to do so..so do i believe in it..maybe?..
In the Native American culture, there have been shapeshifters, shamons, they spirit walk...their animal spirits are what they change into.
Who knows i believe there is do to the fact we r still finding new animals and beings everyday i dont think anyone will ever now for sure
i really dont no for sure but i do believe the bite or scrath thing is possible just because there would be a cross in DNA or if you injected there DNA into you....hmm yea i dont really no aye
It would make sense a werewolf was born a werewolf and not made on like with vampires. Who knows. Now you got me curious. I wonder if there really are werewolves.
i think that if a werewolf was born a werewolf would not that mean that there was a higher level of werewolf and in fact they would most likely have to have a system of order such as a pack of wolves do i just always figured that in all the possibilities of one becoming charmed as a werewolf that it would be more than just a bite or a scratch..i have always thought that werewolves originated from somewhere in the uk.'tis hard to know myth from legengs on such topics as this.
they dont exactly have to be bitten or scratched there are a few that have been born from human parents its rare but it can happen.
UV,why do you think it is so rare? Not a challenge, just curious as to how you feel wherewolves and vampires came about in the first place.
I see several posts that state what one believes happens, but I have yet to see anything back their theory up.
Anyway we can interact a bit more in this thread other than throwing out answers and leaving it at that?
for me ill have to look through history to find out and looking at the myths and lengends to find out where they came from but im sure i you look far enough back in history youll find the answer
Depends on the part of the world you are in.
The russian beleive that you can become a werewolf by stabbing a copper knife into a hewn tree in the woods Going around it 3 times with and speaking an incantation ( I will post that spell later)
Many believe that one does not phyiscally become a wolf but can mentally attach oneself to the spirit of the wolf and see through their eyes and move in their body through intense meditation.
The Enemies of the Norse believed that the Norse Beserkers were werewolves AS they used to where wolf pelts and went into a large frenzy that was a threat to friend and foe. ( more to come)
ok maybe someone all ready mentiond this but I am posting it any ways sorry
use of witch craft."In the spiritual traditions of other cultures, Shamans are expected to seek the assistance of their spirit helpers, who appear most often in the form of their totem animals. In certain instances, to explore more effectively the spiritual dimensions, shamans may even assume the persona of their totem animal and become that animal for a time, be it a wolf, a raven, an, or whatever creature has granted its power to their quest.
However, in the Europe of the Middle Ages, those who employed any kind of shamanic practices were in grave danger of being tortured and dragged to the stake to be burned to death.
That's pretty harsh...I have a friend who believes she was a witch in past lives. She was burned at the stake. Not very nice...people are so cruel.
Soem believe that the 7th Consecutive son was prone to being a werewolf. Or a child born on DEcember 25 were more likely to be a werewolf if male and a witch if female.
I found all of this information out in a book called:
Werewolves by Nigel Suckling. Great book it's only about 100 pages
I always thought it was a spiritual thing that you had to be born into. I could be wrong though.
u can be bitten by one drink there blood and also get it through passion
start your research with wikipedia it always gives good clues
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf
enjoy
well there are many different stories as to how someone can become a werewolf or lycan
one is being scratched which can cause the werewolf genes from the hair and bone from the werewolf go into the scar or blood causing the person to change into the thing that scared them
the other is most common is biting
same as a scratch the saliva has an exfoliant to change the harmless things into were animals or humans once "infected"
i find it interesting that one can become a werewolf in almost the same likelyness that a vampire is awakened and now that the first part of the question has been clearly answered i am very curious still to as of the history of of such beings as the werewolf and where their history of lineage comes from
but could these accounts of werwolfism be do to the genectics of a disease that grows hair all over your body, and people because of their ignorance seeeing them different asumed they were werewolfs? a question I also put out.
Darkest Greetings...
In order to answer your inquiry...
I must first say that there are many theories, as we all know as how a werewolf becomes a werewolf, from ancient Greece and the accursed Lykaon, supposed father of the Lycanthropes...
to the medieval and European belief...
The line between myth and reality is very feeble, thin...uncertain, only we can define it, and to say that myth and fantasy do not have a certain 'reality' would be slightly absurd...
How a lycanthrope becomes what he is, I do not know exactly, for I lack the exact facts, but this I know, it is not merely some delusion , though there are fiascos and posers ... the real thing does exist and many of you may or may not know it...
Making fun of it, or taking it slightly will not change the facts,
many things cannot be explained, but that does not mean they do not exist...
though belief is for us to determine...
I would say lycanthropy is passed on lifetime after lifetime, being a spiritual trait, or can be acquired...
transformation into the lupine form occurs at an energetic and astral level...
but this is just a theory of mine...
Farewell...hope to have contributed...

I always thought you had to be bitten by a werewolf during the full moon to become one.
Carvall has an excellent point about the Duality thread, as I personally think it links very closely with our mentality and ideas of "roles."
I personally do not believe in what I what coin as "cinematic" werewolves, as in, I do not believe that there are werewolves, and therefore, none to bite anyone.
I really wish that people would take this subject seriously, too many of you are thinking of the made up crap in movies. The full moon has nothing to do with it...a bite or scratch has nothing to do with it.99.9% has to do with genes,DNA...or brain chemistry.
Sorry to burst whoever's bubble this is, but there isn't any such thing as werewolves, but well perhaps in Hans Christen Anderson novels..
Werewulf old and classic mythos OR another child of Lilith?
The lore, myth, and stories of these dates back from prehistoric man to the age of today. From the personification or the aspects of wulf to the full transformation of one form to another. History, culture and lore have painted an interesting picture of this.
From the creation of all the tribes of “others” in the start of things and the world {also called Tribes of the Moon}. To the “Higher power” cursing and turning someone into this idea. From magical ways, spiritual transformation or just the physical appearance of the body looked at.
The stories of what a werewulf is and how one becomes a werewulf is found many times all over the world. It has already been stated several different ways and yet the theme is repeated over and over.
Yes legand and lore state the bite or wound caused by one will turn someone into a werewulf as well. This includes when a pair of cursed/blessed/created werewulves mate, a family linage is started.
The three nights of the full moon bring out the “beast” in myth. It is the time of partial to full transformation. Being able to transform at will would be after many years of dealing with the “beast”, controlling the beast within as well as what triggers the beast to emerge. Can the transformation be controlled through mediation and having control over one’s emotions? Or is it just a physical transformation that one has no control over - waiting upon the time of the moon? Depending on where and when in the world the myth and lore originated will tell as to just how much the moon or other factors affect the werewulf. What do you consider a full transformation into a werewulf to be? Is it a four legged wulf running through the woods or a two legged humanoid form as movies and artists have portrayed?
The wulf is not the only transformational myth and legend that can be found. A list of the more commonly known animals around the world are cat, fox, bird and bear to name a few.
Is it not interesting that the craving for fresh meat and blood is the same as with other myth/lore based ideas? And within those ideas there are many different types and ways that these mythos play out. As well as the reasons to take the form of an animal within lore and myth. From The God/dess in different past tellings of deed and the common person as well.
“Nothing but silver can kill a werewolf.” Why is that? Not even stuffing a tube or two of dynamite in its pants and knocking it out a 2 story widow will kill one in a movie. After the werewulf lands in pieces we see the parts trying to reasemable into the werewulf. Where did that variation come from?
Why in lore and myth are the vampire and werewulf enemies? Or how did it come to be that the werewulves work for vampires? How it is the same ideas are always poping up and yet few seem to list where they found their information.
I have an occult and ancient lore and myth library that I have accumulated looking for the older stories and ways. Most of what I wrote came from the library. Use the internet as a tool and see where and what you can come up with. From the starting of the werewolf to what it is and how it came to be. Show where so others know and find different by the end all that can be found will be. And answers will be full instead of repeating. One source conjecture, two sources plausible, three or more the sources not based upon the other sets the truth for all to find.
Hmm, i have heard many things.... Like if you drink water from a wolf pawprint, if you have sex with a were and live, if you are bitten.... many many things
There are many ways that people believe in how you become a werewolf. Legends about being cursed or if one bits or scratch you that you turn into one. Also that its in the family bloodline and thats the only way to become one. I know i haven't personly met one, so who really knows the legend of the werewolf and the true history. But if i met one, I'll ask him or her how its done and let you know.
to xxEmaeraldxx... i think werewolves exist just as much as vampires or any other hybrid creature,it may not be literaly perceived how you depict but i think there are such individuals out in the sub-cultures that take on such a personification as the formentioned creature but i do think that everyone has a right to their own opinion.
You are right BloodCreep, everyone can think what they like, but for me in life I deal with facts, and evidence. Not fantasia. If there is any medical evidence of a Werewolf then I will believe..until then you can believe you want, I really dont care.
Wouldn't a werewolf be born what he (or she) is and not "made" by bite or spell?
I thought you had to be bitten by a werewolf to become one.....
werewolves are created or, begin existance from being bitten by a mutated wolf or another werewolf.
we are immortal,
unless we are shot or if we touch silver.
(we're allergic to silver)
a true werewolf is part of the pack when a member completes a set of trials.
The last trial that declares you are a werewolf, is that the becoming memeber has to catch a deer or other edibal animal and eat it's liver.
Lets say that is so ,how does this mechanism work? Any thoughts on that? And how does the immortality enter into the mix?
werwolfs are most likely created through the blood stream with a lycan gene, bite scratch, be born eith this.
Some people are getting movies and RPG game plots mixed up with real life. There are no Lycans, thats movie myth, but people DO in fact suffer from Lycanthropy, that is fact. They DO believe they are werewolves and CAN transform into a fur covered, clawed handed creature.Skinwalkers are REAL,just ask any old timer Native American.Read any book on Native American history, you will find a bit about shamons and shape shifting, spirit walking as their animal spirit guides.
Indeed, werwolves are created by a bite or a scratch from another werewolf! Indeed
This history of the Lycan or Werewolf as far as I know dates back to the 12th century if not further. Also known as Garou or Lupan found primary in France and Italy at the time. There has been talk of the becoming of the creature by that of witchcraft or as of a curse upon a section of people. There's also the part of them being blood tied to that of the actual vampyre. To becoming one, it's by the siliva or blood of the creature that pass it's genetic change. That's a basic summary I'm placing so far...

whats wrong with throwing out my opinion most people ask what the masses think and if its my belief whats so wrong with that??
Most of the histry surrounding Werewolves wwas developed anywhere that were plagued with wolves ( Lots of places in Europe). Wolves tended to attack domesticated farm animals or if they were hungry enough would occassionally attack humans.
Before "man" became an agricultural society wolves were seen as a great hunter and something to be respected. When the agricultural society started there was a paradigm shift that caused wolves to become greatly fear and as a result massively over hunted. In many places (Ireland, England) wolves were hunted into extinction.
I have always thought that to become a werewolf you have to be bitten by one, their is also another form of werewolf i think the people who have a mental problem that basically go insane during a full moon i have heard of this type of werewolf but i forget where i have seen it written...
Raven Knight...if you actually read my former posts...you will know what has been mentioned here several times....
it makes me wonder if it's possible for when a werewolf is transforming if they receive a death like how a vampire does and then receives a new life like an awakening. i am enjoying all the post and thoughts thus far.
On destination unknow last night they had this same senerio, where in I believe brazil they had sightings of werewolfs, and their lore was it was the seventh son born in a family and not baptized, they were the werewolf. another lore to add here.
If you watch The Wolfman b/w movie...which is the only Universal made movie made up...it was a gypsy curse...but thats a movie.
UrielArnauld,Nothing at all wrong with it.I am simply curious as to what it is about a said theory .I would like to know more, thats all.
its hard to know if werewolves have immortality so many people believe that it is only a myth but there are some werewolves who say it is a myth so to keep there identity a secret for when there are vampire hunters there are also those who hunt werewolves as well
There are some cultures that believe when a werewolf dies it becomes a vampire and that is why vampires are able to transform into wolves
Now in my opinion,
loup garous or werewolves are born..not made,
au contraire to common belief...
If you decide to see them like the hollywood movies, or a 'disease' , even DNA alterations....
so...
choose ...it will no make things different...
Lord Markus
of course there is the stories of once you have been scratched or bitten or even drink the blood of one it says that u will become one on the first full moon after it happens
The legends I heard about the creation of Werewolves:
1)Be Bitten
2)Be Scratched
3)Drinkning water from a wolf pawprint
4)Have sex and survive
5)Skin a wolf and use magic spells
6)Hypertrichosis*Is a medical condition*
i've heard that you become a werewolf in part, the first night of a full moon after you have been bitten, but it take 3 mons to complete the trasfomation fully.
Using sorcery and the left hand paths magickal lore.
One becomes a werewolf by making supplication to lucifer, ahriman, and lillith as well as the god of the forest. One does this, adorning themselves with the pelts and crying out in the forest at midnight some invocation calling to open forth the gates of hell to let loose the beast within.
As for the lineage, blood magick such as what I have mentioned, would allow by the principle of incarnations to mean that anyone subject from the line of the person doing the calling, would inturn be subject to being born with the spirit of the wolf within them, as their animating spirit.
i come to realize that being a werewolf is just a society form just as vampires are today and that most everyone is created the same although we would like to think otherwise.ocasionally i find such individuals minds to run wild with imaginations but thats alright..thats what makes it fun and enjoyable.
Read the True story of "The Beast of Bray Road" It will make you wonder. It's about a wolf like beast that wonders the area of southeastern Winsonsin. I't might make a few of you think twice weather it's a myth or not.
i have heard of 2 ways,
one be bitten by a were wofl
two live as a wolf, get the left over from there kill, follow there tracks, and drink from the same ares i got that from a book called werewolf 101 i belive
The Beast of Bray Road
The Sci-Fi Channel
they made the story into a cheesy movie
the channel would be different depending on where you live.
Sometimes, the condition of werewolf is the result of a spell cast by a magician (St. Patrick of Ireland changed Veretius, King of Wales, into a wolf). and It is said that humans who enter into a pact with the Devil himself do so out of desperation and often, in an effort to seek revenge for the death of a loved one. In popular European superstition, the Devil is said to appear in the form of a coachman whose carriage is drawn by black steeds. The Devil offers a potion that provides the strength needed to carry out the revenge, in exchange for the person's soul. The potion is often in the form of a vial, the contents of which are applied to the human skin under the light of a full moon. The transformation into a werewolf will then begin immediately and the human has been completely turned into a werewolf forever.
Its not just a simple thing to actually become. First, its also not something one does but who they are and as such you make who you are part of your daily life. Its not just what someone is but a spiritual part of them selves. You don't get bitten or anything like the legends say.
One is either born a werewolf (or some other werebeast). There are many who have discovered the secrets to shapeshifting and actually became a shifter. Even if you like wolves and try to become a wolf shifter, it doesn't really garintie that is what you will become. As such, the animal chooses you, not the other way around. Alot of people start out as fox shifters because the fox is known for its natural shapeshifting ability but then that changes over time once they discover their true form. If you really want to know the basics of how to become a real shifter, you should find the book "The Magic Of Shapeshifting" by Rosalyn Greene. Its a really awesome book and will teach you the many basic things about shifters and how to prepair to become one if you so choose to take that in to part of your life.
I hope that I have been helpful.
mentally and spiritually-Yes one can be practically anything but Physically- there are certian things that limit individuals to transforming and changing into certian creatures i believe..
The book I mentioned teaches how to become a real shifter, its a shamanic type of thing also. One can transform them selves astrally but thats not really shapeshifting its self. Shapeshifting is when ones mind becomes the animal they truly are inside. It is also possible through physical practice but those type of shifters rarely exist anymore, but there are some who are able to fully physically shift.
What happens is the etheric animal form manifests its self in such a way the ectoplasm makes it possibly to literally transform ones body into its animal state. The book I gave for refrance explains in detail of what happens to the body. There is also a certain energy that shifters only have. Its this type of feeling like an urge, its like if you don't physically change, it feels like your going to rip open your body. It is painful but to the shifter even though it is painful to them, it feels good. Its a very complicated process to transform physically, not to mention that its of a higher form of power within most people.
But yes, you are also correct because now a days physical shifters are rare, they also tend to be an astral shifter or a mental shifter. In this situation their mind becomes the animal they truly are and they start to act like the animal. When someone is an astral shifter, it is also the same but their spirit exits their body and they leave footprints and even fur/feathers depending on what type of werebeast they are. Most of these shifts occur during a full moon, there are a few that have happened during the dark moon. But as the legends say its because of the moons energy. For some people, its not a choice in if they want to be this or not. This also means that the shifting occurs on its own and cannot be controlled.
The lady who wrote the book, I should also mention is a mental shifter and she has been able to come across a few physical shifters. Like I said, the book is extremely interesting! Has alot of info in it about shifters and it just really opened my eyes to the spiritual world.
I've heard of several ways, including:
Wearing wolf skins,
Being bitten/scratched by one,
Some rituals/meditations,
Drinking water collected in a wolf's pawprint,
and some others that I don't remember at the present.
The first werewolves were Romulus and Remus who were nursed and raised by a wolf. This according to the first myths I have read and this goes back to the early Roman times. Other ways to become a werewolf as others have already mentioned being bitten, scratched, being cursed by a wytche or a gypsy. I believe that Romulus and Remus started the natural line of werewolves. Beware when the full moon is bright and the wolfbane blooms!
I do not believe that werewolves and shapeshifters are the same, shapshifting can be done by shamans, and i believe that it is still practiced today in native american tribes...
