My question is...Is your house haunted? If so what makes it that way? What makes you think it is?
For me..I believe my house is haunted because of what is right in front of it. I have a grave yard at the end of my front yard. It's in our field. The headstones date back to the late 1800's and early 1900's. Mind u my dad built my house 17 years ago so nobody has died here but who knows if there was another house on the land before he got it that someone died in and their soul still lingers on the land.
Unless my house was built on a burial ground that I dont know about - ala Poltergeist. My house better not be, it's new.
Even if your house is NEW.. it could still BE or become, haunted..
Mine Isn't now.. But I had a visit shortly after I moved in, thrice!
It would be interesting to know the history of the property your family lives on.. being so close to a cemetery, there should be some record of any strange events.
I don't know the history of my land. I don't even know if my dad does. But who knows if the cemetary is the only place people are burried. I mean it's a small cemetary with maybe between 15-20 headstones. Some have sunk in and some are body tombs. If you know what I mean. It's just a long stone slab above the grave. It's really wierd because it looks as if the top could come of and my cousin and I have tried to get it to come off without success.
Ok..it may not have been my house but by God it was a family members house. My cousins. I will swear to you that her house was haunted. I would be asleep and suddenly wake up because I either heard something or felt something. And I'm a heavy sleeper. But her house made me so uncomfortable in the dark that I was freaked so bad that I would stay up half the night. There were accounts where I would catch something that looked like a person in the kitchen when all of us...me, my aunt, and my cousin...were all asleep. Because we all had to sleep in one room for a while. But...I'll let her tell you more about her house.
No its not haunted, just built it. but the one before noises were always heard in the den at night and nothing was there. so thats all i can relate to
How would you tell? I mean do ghosties move things or ...?
I would love to live in a haunted house. Sometimes my dog won't go up my stairs unless i turn on the light for her and many times she stands at the bottom of the steps and growls at nothing. But I don't think it's a haunting
It noises that I hear. And things falling off my vanity that aren't near the edge or couldn't slide off. Things are moved...my door opens sometimes at night by itself. I'll be in my room and think someone is coming towards my door and nobody is there. My house creaks and my parents say it's the house settling...the house is 17 years old how much more settling does it have to do? My lamp used to cut on by itself in the night. I would wake up and it would be on. And no I did not leave it on because I never really used it. Just for when reading. And I can't go to sleep with a light on. So...something turned my lamp on.
ok she was talking about my old house:
my old house even scared the shit out of me there have ben several occasions that me nd my mom would be folding laundry and we kept th bathroom door closed because there wasn't much heat in it well we were folding clothes one ight and the bathroom door opened and steam and hea like somene had been in the bath tub came out and then me and mom noticed the smell of the after bath powder my great grandmother would wear after a hot bath. and mom asked her if she wasthee and the door slammed shut. another instance was when my brothr livd in the house ith us. his bedroom window would't stay open on its own without someting keeping it open he hadit open the night befoe and had shut it before he went to bed the next morning me an him were sitting on his bed talking and we felt a extemely cold breeze ad we looked at the window and it was open about 5 inhes and he looked at me and i looked at him and he went to close it and it slammed shut. i will post more about my old house later but i have to get to school.
Your house scared me sometimes so bad that I wanted to come home to my house. I hated when you always thought I left the light on. I knew I would turn it off but some how it would come back on. That's what freaked me out sometimes. I always had to have a light on to go to the bathroom because of your back porch. It was freaky. Also when things fell in the middle of the night. Or when I heard someone walking through the kitchen. I would look up to see if you and your mom were in bed. And you 2 were.
No lie Maximus. You should have stayed in that house. It was the freakiest thing I ever did. But I would stay all the time. I practically lived in that house during the summer. One thing she hasn't mentioned yet is that she did see our Grandmother one day. Because our grandparents well great grandparents used to live in that house.
mine isnt, but my friend belives his is.. he says he can feel someone watching him, and can feel an evil presance there.., i havent felt him.. but felt cold spots, when it was very warm in the house that day..
My old place... my mother's place is haunted but only because she won't lay my father's ashes.
So your father lingers in the house? Yea I feel cold chills sometimes in my house when it's warm. It's really weird.
My house definately is haunted I just don't know by who. Stuff gets knocked off shelves, I hear somebody walking up and down the steps and my son talks to the man with the blue shirt in our kitchen when there's nobody there that I can see. I'm not afraid because he hasn't caused harm, I don't think that he will, he just wants to let us know that he's there.
I wonder if just a weird feeling constitutes a haunting though. I have had weird feelings in my house. I usually just grab my gun and investigate. I don't even give a thought to ghosties. Maybe I need a bigger gun ;)
I don't think my house is haunted part-take because I live an appartment. But however, I do believe there are spirits :)
Mine is not, even though i 've received the visit of some spirits from time to time, but i know about my old grandma's ... before a big earthquake we had in 1985, that house was creepy... we had ghosts there ... and everyone in my family knew about them... they changed the things, closed the doors, turned the lights on... etc...
As a kid I had the fright of my life when I was in bed and should have been at school.
Heavy footsteps on the stairs, and only me at home.....had the desired effect I guess, I was at school next day lol
Yea sometimes I hate being home by myself. Even now and I'm almost 17. I'll be sitting here at the computer watching tv as well and hear footsteps coming through my kitchen or on my front porch. But when I look...nothing is there. And human footsteps sound different than dogs. But my parents would go to the barn and I would be here and here someone walk through my kitchen. Once when I was little I came up to the house from the shop to take a shower...Well I made my brother walk up with me...as I neared the bottom of my stairs to go up to the bathroom I hear footsteps at the top and looked up and just saw a black figure. Well I freaked out. I took off running back down to the shop and said that I didn't want to take a shower. lol.
from the few little things that has happened i kinda think it might be ..... my daughter was saying her prayers one night ....she was alone in the room and she said she heard someone tell her to be quiet ...... it upset her pretty bad ....
Aw...that's sad. I can't remember if I talked to ghosts when I was younger or not. I wonder y it is that lil' kids can see and talk to ghost but we can't.
I think small children can see them because their minds are wide open and accepting of anything even if they don't understand it.
Mine is haunted I have three spirits here,. I bought my house from a palm reader who also ran a psychic business out of her home and a store, And there is a cemetary across the street behind the apple orchards.
Good point. What if our imaginary friends when we were little weren't really imaginary to us. We could see them but nobody else could. I mean I always had a vivid imagination as of to what my friend looked like but never really understood y.
I don't think my house is haunted....it's really not that old.
Unless my house was built on a burial ground that I dont know about - ala Poltergeist. My apartment is new and hasnt been around for that long at all.
VD..my house is only 17 years old and it was built by my dad. But that doesn't mean it's not haunted. Ur house could be haunted by spirits that were living on the land before ur house was built. Doesn't mean someone had to live in the house for it to be haunted. That could be remembering their house.
Another thought to ponder on.
If your house isn't that old what about the land? It could have had another house on it before. Or a building that someone did die in. And the essence of that house still be keeping the spirit of the person that haunts the land still be entangled with the house/building. If this confuses anyone let me know and I'll try to explain a lil' better.
Exactly...most adults will call a childs "playmate" an imaginary friend but that child can give you a full description of the person down to the smallest detail. That's not imagination, they are really seeing a person and having conversations with that person. All three of my children have done this when they were small, I'm just not sure who it is they are really talking to.
Has any of your children had the same "imaginary" friend?
No they haven't. That's what has me so perplexed as to who these people are. The descriptions given by them don't even match anybody that I know like grandparents or great grandparents. They tell me all about their friends with the exception of names.
yea somewhat i guess. i dont know why but i think so cause there has been times where when no one is home that theres noises , and sometimes theres shadows around my house of people but theres no one home but just one person. and thats mostly it so i guess my house is some what haunted
Fira...do you think it could be a family? Like a mother, father, and a kid. Or something like that?
My house isn't but I believe my mother's is. Items mysteriously dissapear, and night she awoke to the figure of her deceased husband sitting at the bottom of the bed.
That's freaky. I wouldn't like to see that when waking up. Wonder if when we dream of these people they are around us. The spirits I mean.
It may be a sub-conscious thing, often our day time thoughts are in our dreams at night.
my house is haunted by the ghost of my sanity... lol
Nah, seriously. My house was haunted by the ghost of my dead borther, and I've been to a few places that are haunted... was a bit of an amateur ghost hunter in my day...
I do know that the house I am currently in is haunted. I don't care either. I know who is haunting it and why and therefore..since she is a peaceful sort...I don't mind. She has even helped me out a time or two.
Well, it is very handy to have a ghost like that Hermione :) I remember my Mum had lost something and she actually remembers having a conversation with her the ghost of her husband in her sleep who told her where to find it!
That's kool.
My brother stayed in a haunted house once. The doors would close and lock. The sheets would be a mess. Clothes would be thrown around. He got locked out of his own room once.
There's also a hauted church up the road from me somewhere. I haven't yet visited it but want to extremely bad. I also think there is a satanic church as well. Or something.
Now.. I think that is bizarre how we hear so many stories about haunted houses rather than haunted Churches where the dead actually live!
I know. But I don't think we have a church around here with a cemetary behind it. I would love to go to a church like that. Cause that's where they would be haunted. I don't know if the church up the road has one or not.
I once thought my old house was haunted but i think it may have been the hampsters my brother "accidentally" let loose:)
I once thought my old house was haunted but i think it may have been the hampsters my brother "accidentally" let loose:)
Well, where I live in Ireland all the Churches have graveyards and rarely in my part of the world is a ghost story told about them.
Mind, you I used to live in a house that I am sure was occupied by a spirit. One could feel it's presence on the stairs *shivers*
I live in a building that was built in the 1930's...it's not haunted...not that I'm aware of anyways...BUT the building I work in was built in the late 1800's...it's haunted...I work late alot and I've heard a small child singing in the pantry...I've heard chairs moving in offices I know to be unoccupied and there are parts of the building that retain a chill that has nothing to do with the actual temperature of the house...an ex colleague of mine was psychic and she said that there were alot of spirits in the house...none malevolent...and my other colleagues have their own stories of what they have heard and seen in the house...spooooky stuff...it's great at Halloween...:D
Used to be. But I dont call it haunted.
They're just ppl that don't know they're dead yet.
They just need a slight bit of help passing through. and that's what I DO :)
That's kool. Ur like a ghost whisperer. Yea...Nobody would want to say that their church is haunted because it's supposed to be a sacred holy place...but how do we know? How do we know the priests aren't telling the truth? We don't. So I think it is possible for your churches to be haunted.
I had a Biryani and three beers last night... and ever since an evil presence has been following me wherever I go... an ungodly stench of pure evil... spooky! Seriously though, last year I stayed in a 15th century devonshire cottage... all night I was woken up almost on the hour like I was being shaken...
A friend of mine lived in a 17th century cottage on the route Charles 1 allegedly took when he was fleeing from the army of Oliver Cromwell... once a year, on the same night the sound of horses thundering past the house is heard... and the cries of pursuit are heard not long after...
I don't . But my Grandparents house is . Really freaky and a little scary.
I live in Virginia..about 4 hours away from Williamsburg. I went on the ghost tour my last time there. It's said that ghost still haunt the town. Like the houses and what not. One was of a child who I believe was burried in the walls of the house. Kinda scary.
My mom says it is just to freak us out, that way we wont stay up late. But its not.. and we stay up late anyway, lol.
Yea cause all the creepy stuff happen late at night. Last night for instance I thought I heard someone walking around my hallway. I decided after that that it was time to go to bed.
my apt isnt haunted but people have died in mine...the lady before me did....of old age.
I wouldn't use the term haunted, but my house does seem to have some paranormal activity. It's built right on top of a big magnetic rock, so there's a bunch of wild energies running free. A wide variety of entities have stopped by......some not good ones. But they move on eventually.
My house is not haunted. It creeks; I see shadows out of the corner of my eyes, and there are weird noises. However, I am pretty sure that it is my imaginiation getting the best of me.
The house that I live in now isn't haunted but our last house I felt was...it always seemed as someone was watching you, all the time...noises would come from the back bedroom when no one was in it...it wasn't that old of a house, built in 1986...when we got pictures developed there were orbs in every single one from inside the house...at first I just ignored it but it got hard to do that especially after my daughter passed away, so we moved...
Oh. I'm sorry bout your daughter. Yea...I take pictures sometimes and they have orbs in them. But I'm not sure as of to what they are from.
Thank you hisdarkestdream...I believe sometimes they are energies...especially if they come out in your pictures on any given day...it was creepy and I'm glad I don't live there any more...
Yea. That is a lil' weird. I mean I get the globes in my pics even when I'm not around my house. It's kinda weird.
I also believe my barn is haunted as well. You'll be downstairs and it will sound like someone is walking in the upper bay. Kinda freaky when hay falls on ya head when nobody is upstairs...we're all down.
Im pretty sure ours is all our kitchen cabinets and drawers are allways open when we go in there......
That's weird. I'll normally lay something down and when I go to get it again it's gone and it drives me crazy cause I think I put it somewhere else and I'm searching all over the place and when I go back to where I first thought I laid it it's there.
i live in an a renivated church. and there is a dead nun that huants the place.
My aunts house is haunted. At night you can hear lil kids running up and down the hallway outside her room... its freaky.. she wont tell me what happened there before she moved there.
Hmmm....yea if a nun haunted my house I'd tell that Sister to leave. I don't like nuns. lol. "I won't confess to you sister." Sorry.
Absolutely my house is. Everyone in my family who lives here and a few who dont has seen 'guest' in my house. A mountain man who my mom and my dads ex-wife has seen. i have seen pple walking through the rooms. i hear voices just talking about stuff. things arent where they are supposed to be.
That's weird. Yea I hear voices sometimes as well. Laughter is the thing that I hate. I don't like strange laughter in my house that doesn't belong to anyone I know.
mine really is check out ghosthunters chapter of ny and go to bakers hotel ny and there it is
Yup I think the house im in is haunted , lmao Igot smacked in the back of my head and no one was there
Well that was a rude ghost. I would have b**ch slapped the ghost. lol.
We just moved into an old house 2 weeks ago. My son swears that there is the ghost of a young girl that remains mostly in his room.
Em:
You point about haunted churches / graveyards is interesting. I think you do not see this much, as the ghost stays where the soul parted from the body, i.e. where the death occured. By the time the corpse is brought to the Church for the funnerary service and the grave yard for burial, the spirit does not follow the body, but rather is attached to the place of death.
That is true. But sometimes the soul/spirit doesn't leave until it's in it's resting place. It may just linger around the church or maybe it died at the church.
I agree, I was just trying to respond to xxEmeraldxx's post asking why it is not more commin to find haunted churches / graveyards.
Because of it being a sacred holy place. Spirits are less likely to haunt something that "belongs" to Christ.
my house is haunted by young girls that was burned in a fire here and a young woman that jumped out the window i seen the girls in my dreams and the woman showed herself to me one night scared me alittle bit
Wow. That's a little freaky. I don't know who or what haunts my house but they come into my shower with me sometimes and knock my shampoo off the shelf.
I lived in many homes some old and some new only one house ever showed any signs of being haunted.. Once the spirits knows someone knows of their presence they will continue to make themselves known .... I no longer live in that house..However, I didn't leave because of the haunting..
I think my house is haunted. We have a dirt basement wich can only mean a number of things, I live in one of the most satanic areas in Cali and there is an orange grove in my backyard that the dogs are always barking into. Plus the dogs get wierded out a lot in the house.
Have you found any writings in the dirt of your basement?
