Are there vampires in the bible?
I'm seeing lot's of members here in VR claiming to be vampires... alright, thats fine to me... but, if truly exists real, supernatural, undead vampires here in VR, please express yourself... this is not to discuss if they exist or not, I know that they do, its just that I find weird that they come here to internet and post messages... but... who knows...

returning to the subject: is there vampires in the bible? where did they appear and when? I know that myths were made about them, across the centuries, but that does not discredit that they exist in the most supernatural form that we know ... as well as, is not it since anybody says that God does not exist that he stops existing or vice-versa, right? The beliefs of anybody do not credit or discredit an absolute truth, and believe me, not even all the truths are relative, like someone said it. People tends to discredit things that they don't understand, like vampires, God, Satan and even dragons, and so on... but the most supernatural book of all, the Bible, as answers to almost anything in that matter, the supernatural...

I will give just a little briefing on this, please express your opinion:

First:
the word, VAMPIRE
vam'-pir (alaqah): the Revised Version margin for "horseleach" (Prov 30:15) has "vampire."
See HORSELEACH
hors'-lech (`aluqah; compare Arabic `aluqah, "ghoul," and `alaqah, "leech," from root `aliq, "to cling"; Septuagint bdella, "leech"): The word occurs only once, in Prov 30:15, the Revised Version margin "vampire." In Arabic `alaqah is a leech of any kind, not only a horse-leech. The Arabic `aluqah, which, it may be noted, is almost identical with the Hebrew form, is a ghoul (Arabic ghul), an evil spirit which seeks to injure men and which preys upon the dead. The mythical vampire is similar to the ghoul. In zoology the name "vampire" is applied to a family of bats inhabiting tropical America, some, but not all, of which suck blood. In the passage cited the Arabic Bible has `aluqah, "ghoul." If leech is meant, there can be no good reason for specifying "horseleach." At least six species of leech are known in Palestine and Syria, and doubtless others exist. They are common in streams, pools, and fountains where animals drink. They enter the mouth, attach themselves to the interior of the mouth or pharynx, and are removed only with difficulty.

Second: the meaning of words and it's significance, take for example, the dinosaurs... do they appear in the bible?
let's see a word,
BEHEMOTH

be'-he-moth, be-he'-moth (behemoth: Job 40:15): Apparently the plural of behemah, "a beast," used of domestic or wild animals. The same form, behemoth, occurs in other passages, e.g. Dt 28:26; 32:24; Isa 18:6; Hab 2:17, where it is not rendered "behemoth" but "beasts." According to some, the word behemoth, occurring in Job 40:15, is not a Hebrew word, the plural of behemah, but a word of Egyptian origin signifying "water ox." This etymology is denied by Cheyne and others. The word has by various writers been understood to mean rhinoceros and elephant, but the description (Job 40:15-24) applies on the whole very well to the hippopotamus (Hippopotamus arnphibius) which inhabits the Nile and other rivers of Africa. Especially applicable are the references to its great size, its eating grass, the difficulty with which weapons penetrate its hide, and its frequenting of streams.
The remains of a fossil hippopotamus of apparently the same species are found over most of Europe, so that it may have inhabited Palestine in early historical times, although we have no record of it. There is a smaller living species in west Africa, and there are several other fossil species in Europe and India. The remains of Hippopotamus minutus have been found in enormous quantities in caves in Malta and Sicily.

but, is it really the word behemoth well translated to hippopotamus? Or a dinosaur better describes this word? See the passage
in the bible:

Job 40:15 "Behold now, behemoth, which I made as well as thee; He eateth grass as an ox.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the muscles of his belly.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together.
18 His bones are [as] tubes of brass; His limbs are like bars of iron.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God: He [only] that made him giveth him his sword.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the beasts of the field do play.
21 He lieth under the lotus-trees, In the covert of the reed, and the fen.
22 The lotus-trees cover him with their shade; The willows of the brook compass him about.
23 Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; He is confident, though a Jordan swell even to his mouth.
24 Shall any take him when he is on the watch, Or pierce through his nose with a snare?"

for God sake, since when the hippopotamus have tail like a cedar?

Cain received a mark, some fallen angels had sex with womens, were is the difficult to believe that supernatural vampires exists and even the bible mention them???

forgive any bad english, I'm portuguese...

Oh boy, now you got the subject started. I think this thread will be getting plenty of comments.

To start, most of the stories and histories on the "vampires" have been taken out of the original bible. The newer revised versions that do not carry the books - Enoch, Seth, Caine, Mary, Judas. For specific reason that they might harm the new churches that were made past the 300's A.D. As the first edit was made rouphly around 370 A.D. Out of fear that the informations may corrupt the churches, as blood was used in most of the information.

Yes, these books do show proof of vampirism in the original bible, both the greek, the Koran, and a couple of others.

I will wait for more comments before posting more on this thread.

(Goes to make a bag of popcorn.)

malakh,

I don't feel that you have provided any real credible basis for your hypothesis.

Leeches do not equate to supernatural vampires. Nor do 'dinosaurs'. I am not sure where you were heading with that reference.

Fallen angels, there is already a well-established theorem regarding, in the Nephilim. Cain's bloodline being an integral part of that.

Please can you provide some direct examples of where you feel Vampires are mentioned, or supposed in either the Talmud or the New Testament, since you have not given anything significant so far.

Soulshroude thats the thing... I didn't provide any verses because probably there are already threads who give them, and this forces those who are real interested to research by them selfs... and there are lot's of supernatural beings in the bible... I just want your opinions on this subject, I'm not trying to prove anything and no, the verse of the horseleach is not a reference to vampires... it's a reference to the meaning of words... like behemoth that men's keep on saying that the right translation is hippopotamus...

I can tell you now that after 27 years of studying The Talmud I have never come across a reference to vampires in any way shape or form.
I never expected to see dinosaurs there either as the bible was written well after such events and is a direct contradiction to science.

yes, thats true, but don't forget who wrote proverbs and what they have seen, most of that analogous are descriptions of things they saw, take for example the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 12 verse 6 "Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern."
almost everyone agrees that this book was written by Solomon the son of David, know how the hell does he knows about the silver cord? Those who understands about astral projection should know what I'm talking about...

I don't know if they still there... but that is not the point... and believe me that the bible surely as nothing against or contradicting the science... but this thread is not to discuss that...

STABB666 the bible it must be read between the lines... we'll never understand it, if we don't take seriously some verses like this:
1 Corinthians 1:18 "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where [is] the wise? where [is] the scribe? where [is] the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."

WE will never find God for our intelligence. period

...and if He exists, how could He not mentioned vampires and other beings?

Ecclesiastes 1:13 "And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all [things] that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith."

the secrets of God are to those who love him...

But what you are insinuating, is that Vampires are directly referenced in the Bible, not whether 'God' spoke to someone about them.

The secrets of God are not encapsulated entirely within a few books.

It's possible that God (if it exists), could have made vampires known to man through means other than the Bible, but thats not what you posted on this thread.

I have heard a theory that Vampires are a breed of fallen angels, they were made that way as punishment for there insubordination, If you ask any well versed Catholic they should be able to tell you all you would want to know about angels, but not a lot of them that I know are as much into the research as others, also I am not sure of the verse although it is somewhere in the New testament Book of Matthew, I don't remember exactly and I could be wrong but it was something about some of the people he was speaking to being alive for the day of the second coming, now he could have meant something else by it, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

Very nicely done Malakh...yes Vampires are in the "Bible" under the Hebrew forms........and yes they were descended from the Nephilim.....but it was the Jabbbariyum that were the offspring of Humans & Nephilim.
Some races of Nephilim.....nephilim were not a single race....were blood drinkers, but they did not have fangs which represent the modern vampire of lore.

A good example of their feeding would be "REPRESENTED" in the movie...."RISE/ BLOOD HUNTER, a lot of research went into the production of the film. You have to watch it more than once to fully understand the meaning, and listen carefully to the script.

And about reading between the lines...yes of course, but there is also reading with understanding...the Bible that says Jesus was crucifed also says he wasn't.

And the mentioning of the original term for the earth can be found in JOB....reading with understanding is essential.

Get a good lexicon, Greek & Hebrew, and explore the roots of words, you'd be ASTOUNDED at what you find

Christ was definately not a vampire.. at the last supper even though he said the stuff in the cup was his blood it was wine. Ok now remember that alot gets lost in the translation so that is why one translation uses the word unicorns in Psalms and one version says wild bulls. It is most likely all in the translation

Not every scripture writen is in the Bible.

The boos of the Polycryph and the Apocryph are extremly intense and fill in the gaps of time lines and personages and races, ancient and ET. But finding a good copy is almost impossible, you would have to get a copy published in whole from back in the 50's or early 60's the ones today are watered down and not complete.

NOT descendants of what man calls angels (ET)

THe descendants of the Angels and Human women, and heere's something you have to ask yourself....if there was only Cain and Able and Cain killed his brother....Then Seth was born...where did the women come from?
They were born twins Cain and his sister, Able and his sister, Seth was born alone.
Who were the daughters of Man....Man began to multiply on the face of the earth. And it isn't talking about the inhabitants of NOD, they were the fallen "Angels" who had their established society.
There was a garden...let's call it Eden...that was closed off from the rest of "world at large"

The rest of the story is even more interesting.....

The descendants of the Angels and Human women were called Jabariyyan....they were the ones who built the cities of MU and Atlantis...."Men of old, Men of reknown"

The war was between them and the Nephilim that were already here, the Nephilim had few resources for "advanced" construction and wound up uniting the "population" of humans that feared the Jabariyyan and their technology, and eventually destroyed the cities....you can find that story in the Sumerian texts.

The Moody institute was built on de-bunking all forms of "Other than" what was acceptable in Religion....

Not saying you attend Moody, just that it didn't work for them. Especially when ancient "Theologies" other than that which is "Accepted as" come into play.

People need to stop throwing their "degrees" or "levels" of achievement into it and prove that ideas are wrong other than accepting what they are taught as fact.

I'm not trying to insult you....just trying to allow you a path to travel on you own other than what is accepted and taken as rule of thumb.

humm.... it's getting interesting, my fascination for vampires came when I was a little boy, but it was not for the vampire itself, it was for the eternal life... I was an agnostic till I was 18 years old, were I discovered that we can speak to demons (Ouija board was the start) and then I continue my research for the truth... everything that I believed, was flushed away by that new stuff that I came across... and it began my quest... probably exists vampires as well... I've read lots of stuff about this subject and the bible is the only consistence book, about eternal life and supernatural beings... and if God does not exist, neither eternal life, well, to me this short and miserable life sucks... I didn't ask to born, so if this as to end, what the hell am I doing here? and for the record, I didn't born in a wealthy family, I did not ask to fall down of a train and loose my right leg (thats right) and eternal life by the bible, you will keep your personality and some of your memories, and even more... you will have your appearance almost just like the one you have here, less the imperfections... I do want to live forever and ever... :X

if God does exist and the bible is God's revealed word to us, then we have to take seriously some key verses like this one:

1 Corinthians 2:13 "Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned."

so, those who didn't received the Spirit of God can not discern/understand the bible... no matter what they do...

Google?

I don't google or use Wiki.....with the Library I have there is no need.
But wouldn't it be amazing if everyone could own a copy of the Polycryph and Apocryph
Just think of the unanswered questions.
Sadly the best copies were removed from bookshelves in the late 60's
Imagine 3" thick volumes of scriptures that didn't fit into the Vaticans way of thinking..

Sadly there are many that will never know the rest of the story. And rely upon those who only know what they've been taught. And the cycle continues from one generation to the next. Until finally there can be no more room for doubt. The mind will rebel yes, the ego will not tolerate the possibility, but in the end the spirit will either accept it's folly among man or wither and perish at it's own hand.

I know there's a lot we don't know... more lessons, more parables, more metaphors... but nothing that would shake the very foundations of those who believe. That's how I feel about it.

No - he didn't.

After blessing bread and wine and giving it to them to eat and drink, Jesus told them that it was his body and his blood of the Covenant.

What part of bread and wine don't you or anyone else understand?
It's m e t a p h o r ! - S y m b o l i s m !

Maybe the word Covenant is too big a word to understand.

BillytheJust you misunderstood everything... didn't you?
first, I never mentioned the book of Enoch, and second, if you had read everything you'll see that the word lilith is surely in the bible...
I'll put the passage again:

Isa 34:14 "And there shall the beasts of the desert meet with the jackals, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; the LILITH also shall settle there, and find for herself a place of rest."
BIBLE - Darby, John Nelson (1890)

...now, how about that? lilith really appears in the bible and as nothing in common with a woman... its a night-monster/evil-spirit... sorry matte

ok... I understand that... listen, I'm not trying to proof anything, I just came up with this subject because there's much more in the bible that we could ever imagine... if God really exist, then He as revealed much more then we could imagine, take for example this; who was the guy that told the world that the Earth is round? Galileo Galilei, right? no, wrong... see this verse in the bible, written 2700 years ago:

Isa 40:22 "[It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof [are] as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:"

so, it was Isaiah who first wrote about that... and the issue of the interpretation is for those who wants to give excuses for what they believe... the common interpretation for behemoth is hippopotamus, right? but that description fits much more better in a dinosaur that in a hippo... since when hippopotamus have tails like cedars? and about the issue of that in that time no one ever has seen a dinosaur, to be described in the bible in completely ignorance, it is God speaking to Job and revealing is word, not a description of man's... and for God sake, He says that behemoth is he's master piece of all the animals, an hippopotamus a master piece? sure... :X

Many legends have sprung up about vampires and Bibical times. Apparently, some believe Adam had a wife before Eve named Lilith. I have had some tell me she was the first vampire.

I have also heard the stories about Cain and Judas.

There is the myth that Adam's first wife, Lilith went on to be a vampire...But that's another story.

In the actual Bible, I don't believe there are vampires. There's the nephilim, and I believe it mentions dragons and beasts but not vampires.

On the contrary, you find a few snippets of genuine history, and a LOT of hearsay, mistranslations, lies, etc. And you can interpret any number of verses to mean next to anything. Just because you can interpret something as pertaining to vampires doesn't mean it actually does, nor can you be sure that the verse is even genuine!

One mistranslation is the one that was mentioned earlier. ""Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern." This silver cord is meant as the spinal cord, the golden bowl - the skull, the rest is the lungs and blood system. They are written in prose. The whole book is. Always wondered myself why they put it in. O'well. Nothing to do what you might thing it is to our language now.

My favorite always was the parable about the rich. Everyone knows it. "It is easier for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle, than the gates of heaven." Or something along those lines. I'm not going to look it up. But how many people know what an "eye of a needle" is? First thought, and always was - still taught that way too - a sewing needle. The eye being were you put the thread through, right? And you would be wrong. The correct meaning changes the whole meaning. Funny really. Shame too.

A whole religion was started because of a simple phrase that JC spoke. "Nobody comes to the Father except through me." People have been massed killed because of it. Judged and hated. All because people do not understand the meaning.

Some are indeed very blind.

As for History...maybe people should watch the history channel due to space limitations.

Ok...now how has anyone thought that maybe these peoples in biblical times could have used a word in reference to vampire...such as "leech"...why does everything have to be in a literrall translation! If you look up hebrew and greek words a lot of them translated to english were not literall translations but translated enough so we can understand it in out tounge...

For christs sakes people think outside the box...!

Second...what i said was meant for intelligent people...come on seriously...if you are curious enough you will research until you have valid information...not find a word and some how find a translation in another language to make it what you want it...

When on high the heaven had not been named,
Firm ground below had not been called by name,
When primordial Apsu, their begetter,
And Mummu-Tiamat, she who bore them all,
Their waters mingled as a single body,
No reed hut had sprung forth, no marshland had appeared,
None of the gods had been brought into being,
And none bore a name, and no destinies determined--
Then it was that the gods were formed in the midst of heaven.
Lahmu and Lahamu were brought forth, by name they were called. (10)

Sounds oddly Familiar huh. Thousands of years before the "Creation of man" this was written. Time lines are ignored by many because they raise too many questions, and so few answers from scholars who are forced to re-think their scholarly ideas.

Why would modern man call this a MYTH. Becuase they are words and bare no physical proof?
Must one in order to believe always see the physical manifestation?
We believe in "Jesus" son of Mary but yet have only words to go by.
We believe in the crucifixion, but have only words to go by and paintings by Michelangelo.

Here in lies a challenge to the well equipped. Prove the possibilities false with proof not supposition, not someone elses words who have been used time and again to become holy rhetoric. Prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Myth is as it is Myth and not truth that has been supressed for obvious reasons.
Prove not to me, but to your selves.

I respect everyones beliefs in their own fashion, but if there is more to the story....why ignore it.

May you journey through this life be....eventful.

We must keep an open mind towards everything.

People, keep in mind that stories throughout time have been retold and altered so many times that the stories become so magnificent it's hard to tell what to believe about them. Yes, this is even true for the bible.

I believe that the stories in the bible do have some truth to them, but, over the many years of retelling the stories from the bible, that the information has been altered in such a way that it makes them unbelievable.

And, before people start trying to disagree with me on this, keep in mind that you have NO PROOF, only words in a book. Everyone is entitled to their own belief and I do not judge people for their beliefs, I actually find other people's beliefs fascinating. Also, if alot of other stories (not related to the bible) can be twisted and altered over the years, why can't it be the same for the bible? Yes, let's keep an open mind here...

once again, read carefully... I'm not trying to prove that vampires are mentioned in the bible, and for sure I'm not talking about that kind of vampires you are mentioning... I'm talking of supernatural, undead with super-strength force and other abilities vampires... yes, the ones that hollywood represented so well in the Interview with the Vampire... this is a subject to see the different opinions about this, and for those who have more details regarding this matter and post it here... I started this, because I'm seeing lots of guy's claiming to be vampires, and that's fine with me, but I think that the true vampire being, is fallen down in discredit for that... I don't care about it, but I don't understand were you people wants to get it, by thinking that way?

imagesinwords your answer is not the final word about the subject, it's your opinion... and it's welcome, just like the others... and to prove you that you are not reading carefully my posts , read your last post question:

completely wrong, my last question, in my last post was:

What is the purpose? this site?

I was asking if the purpose of thinking that way is this site, and not the purpose of the site... isn't that right?

and if you think that vampires aren't mentioned in the bible, that's alright... billions of people do not believe in the existence of vampires... and that do not change the facts... I don't understand why you get bothered with this... I am not trying to foist anything on anybody...

This thread is neither about whether the bible is historically accurate, nor the politics surrounding its inception and evolution.

Please keep to the topic, which is whether vampires are represented in the bible.

I have removed those posts which were very far off-topic.

MalkavianMime,

No, I don't.

Vampires are either mantioned, identified or whatever, or they are not.

The thread starter supposed that they were and provided the 'eveidence' to support his case.

Subsequent posters, myself included, have disputed this and given our reasons why.

Stating that the bible is 'just a work of fiction', is hardly relevant.

Nor is dicussing the politics of the Christian Church, which is a borderline topic for allowance on this forum in any case.

If you want to analyse the cultural background of the Bible's creation, that's fine, but stay away from derogatory remarks regarding it.

Thank you.

I never said my word was the final word. I am giving my opinion like everyone else.

I DO NOT believe in supernatural vampires- but I like watching them on the silver screeen.

Let me also tell you this- there are rules being broken in this thread now:

Posts that ridicule the philosophical tenants of any religion.

You need to really ingest that. There are plenty of Christians on this site (like me). And I have equally closed threads that have offended people of other religions.

malakh, You said: that the catholic church is not a church from God... and does not speak through the word of God. I am not Roman Catholic- but I know people who are will find that beyond offensive.

Actually, I believe that vampires are specifically mentioned in the Dictionary.

The link 'What is a Vampire?', contains the entry from Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, 1913 Edition.

Point being, it is there and clear and states what the writers believe about them, which are the generally accepted popular concepts.

The Bible has no such clear-cut defnition/description.
