Personally I would give it away, you never know what sort of spirit you might raise from one and it opens a door to all kinds of possibilities some not all good.

I have one myself, but I never use it. I mean I just don't see the point in it. I do believe that you can communicate with spirits with them and I guess they can even be portals to the spirit world or what ever, I just don't use it lol. I mean I don't think it can really cause you any harm if you keep it around but if you use it then I guess that is something else entirely. If you just have it and you aren't using it, then I don't think it is an active portal but if you do use it then I think that spirits can get through.

Give it away and never touch it! I messed around with one when I was younger with my girlfirend and freaky things started to happen immediately when we started asking what spirits were present. The lights dimmed way down came back on and flickered. It got freaky quiet and chills filled the room and scared the crap out of us. Not even worth trying.

I would keep it. If you do use it make sure to cast a protection circle around it before use. My personal experience with one have been good. I asked what was in my future and it spelled out a name and 6 months later I met my very closest friend with that same name.

Cleanse it before and after every use. The myth is never burn a Ouji Board or you shall hear the witches scream...thought it was a myth to share.

Well I am not sure, I mean I would probably use it because it seems interesting... But be carefull because you can channel the wrong spirit and it can follow you and haunt you for the rest of your life... My granny had one, one time when she was younger she said it locked the doors to her car and she couldn't breathe then someone came banging at the window and it stopped... So be carefull.

I forgot to mention about cleansing it before and after each use like mysticwinds posted. Since you think it might be your firned's old board definately cleans it first.

I would say keep it, but only because it may have sentimental value to your friend and he/she may get upset if you get rid of it. If you decide you don't want it, maybe it would be best to give it back to who you got it from.

As far as my own personal experiences with Ouija boards, they were good for fun, but I wouldn't use them as my main way for spirit communication.

I would cleanse it with lots of sage.
then if you decide to keep it, store it in a black pillow case and add some dry sage or sweetgrass or cedar or all three into the case (unburnt loose herb)
cleanse it, after every use.
cast a circle around you and the board before using.

my best friend and i used one when we were in high school. we had a friend that had died in a car wreck , he came and tried to take her back with him. i will never use one again. and i know people that have tried to get rid of them and couldnt, they burned it and it came back, they buried it and it came back. so just be very careful with it if u choose to keep it.

It's a tool. You use it to focus your mind and get answers to things, much like Tarot cards, only in a slightly different way.

There's nothing inherantly bad in using it. If you want to use it, just make sure that it is cleansed as someone else said above (I would do that for any divinatory item I purchased or made in any case) and don't get freaked by things when/if they happen.

I never have used one, but from what i have heard about them i wouldn't use it, especially if you have no experience. If you want to try it out, i would suggest having someone there who has lots of knowledge and experience in their use.

Think wisely.

Very nice... well it is your choice... lots of good information on cleansing and protection spells. But I see it also as a tool, just like my tarot cards, scrying mirror, I Ching and Neconomicon. Use after checking into proper use and then decide for yourself... Blessings.

If you believe it could bring in bad spirits or harm you, then I would indeed recommend you give it away or throw it away, whatever you prefer. Anything you feel uncomfortable owning you have a right to get rid of.

I have never had an ouji board and I don't want one. I have heard of a few people using them and opening portals and letting spirits into their home.

Well, my opinion is if you don't want any trouble, get rid of it, or if you want to connect with spirits cleanse it like the people above said. Honestly, I thought that if you give an ouji board away it would always come back...Or is that just a myth as well?

Get rid of it. If you want to contact spirits, do it another way...I don't trust ouji boards, they've always given me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Sell it on EBay with some story about how it was used to conjure up the ghost of Jimmy Hoffa and he confirmed he was buried in the east end zone of Giant Stadium... it'll go for about $40, plus shipping and handling...

Dispite what others keep saying about not keeping it, the ouija board is in fact a door way, but only if you let it.

My own personal experiances with a ouija? Well, I have one in particular to share...A friend of mine had one sitting on top of her icebox, I asked about it, when she told me she did not believe in such hooey, I chuckled and asked her to bring it down so I could show her.

We had at least 4 individuals working their hands at the same time, I was the channeler.

I let them know that if they wanted proof then they would have to let me summon the entity, then to leave the ouija alone. After about 10 minutes of ignoring the board without closing the table, the ouija pointer shot across the room into the kitchen.

After this, we immediately closed the circle, needless to say, they were pretty freaked out.

Bare in mind, that if you do not know how to use a oija, opening or closing, let alone by yourself, then look it up either online, or from a book. Other than that, good luck.
