Do you think that the Pendulum is a safe [and accurate] substitute for the use of a Ouija board? Do you think either of them work at all?

What are your thoughts on demons and Ouija boards... do you think they can only be used to contact evil?

me personally, i prefer a pendulum, i dont like the Ouiji boards, have done the same thing with out the board. and it worked, so does the pendulum though, i am afraid of the Ouiji boards i think they are a gate way to hell, but thats my opinion. i guess its a personal preference.

well I feel the Ouija Board is more threatening and is hard to protect oneself from it once you open that threshole I have had nothing but bad things happen with them and prefer not to ever use them and always caution people to really really put up protection when they do.

I was taught by my master a very knowledgeable witch that the Ouija board opens up a rather large and hard to control nonselective portal through which many unsavory beings could use to interact. The other methods are a more shall we say filtered method that does not allow such unrestricted interaction by the beings contacted.

He/she is right to a point, a negetive or nasty spirit can come in anyway. In the board its true it brings everyone and usually spirits and energies that a novice or weak person shouldnt try to work with these, untill they are stronger and can handle situations.

some tools of divination should be left to those that have grown in their abilities to work with such things as the board. Unfortunately it is marketed as a toy, which we all know isnt a toy! this freaks people out and this is where and when you get people saying things like, it being a tool from hell....

The Ouija board is a tool and a very powerful one but should not be used by anyone that does not have a strong will as they may become the one being controlled or visited. Other methods do not allow the person to become controlled or let other unsavory manifestations to occur as they do not open a portal for as much energy to be conducted.

Dragonrouge, if it is all involountary muscle movement, how can it be so accurate? Do you think that in our subconcious we know what our future holds... and if so, do you think our muscles correspond to portray this through a Ouija board or pendulum?

After all, many people contact spirits in order to find out their futures... and there have been numerous reports of these premonitions coming true.

Another question... do you think these predictions come true because the Ouija board/pedulum plants a seed in the mind of a person, or because it actually holds some kind of supernatural power that can contact spirits who know of the future?

First of all, Dragonrouge, Wikipeadia isn't a reliable source. Anyone can go on there and edit it. A 12 year old 6th grader can write an article on brain surgery (so to say). So don't trust what you read on there unless you have other sources you can back up the info you find on there with.

I've never used a Quija board, nor do I have a desire to any longer. I used to about a year ago. I have, however, used a pendulum. I used it about a year and a half ago. All it did was confirm my suspicions about what was haunting my dad's house. For the most part. I always felt two presences there. I asked how many spirits resided at dads and the answer I got was 3. Then I asked if they were all good. It said no. About 7 months later, I was attacked in my bedroom. I had something heavy and somewhat bulky thrown at me from across my room. I was the only one in my room and the item was under a pile of clothes. I was the only one it attacked, but not the only one it tormented.

Eventually I asked my aunt, who is both Wiccan and living at my dad's about the pendulum. Though, better than a Quija board, it still opens up a door which is hard to control if you don't know how.

Dragonrogue, I have read the article you suggested. I note that the majority of the "evidence" is from the mid 1800's. The one more modern note that stuck in my mind is as follows: (quote) "Furthermore, these tests demonstrate that "honest, intelligent people can unconsciously engage in muscular activity that is consistent with their expectations" (Hyman 1999)." Note the significance is in ~expectations.~ There are some things that when you ask the ouija board, your expectations are NOT the given result - and these results ARE accurate!

I'm not saying the ideomotor effect is untrue, but am saying that I personally believe it does not apply to ouija boards. I have experienced too many things over the years to think that the ideomotor effect would be able to produce the things the ouija board has produced. The board is ~not~ a toy, nor is it a mind game. My own ouija experience was not bad and was very accurate, but I know others who had bad experiences. Some things are not for those without powers and strength: the ouija board is one of them.

As I have never used a pendulum, I cannot form an opinion on that.

Ouija boards are something that scare me. My mother had one that the indicator would move by it's self. I obtained one and it did speak to me, however, I began experiencing strange occurrences. I'd hear something running around my house, laughing and knocking on the walls. I burned the thing and will not touch one to this day.

In my opinion, anytime you are attempting contact with the spirits, be it through pendulum, spirit boards or any other method, if the person who is diving is not well trained in how to properly prepare to do so, there is always the chance for negative and unsafe interactions. People tend to believe that it is all a game and that there will be no consequences for calling forth spirits to contact and when things happen, instead of taking responsibility for it themselves, they blame the spirit board or the pendulum or the divination mirror etc.

Anywho, back on topic. The witchboard, or ouija board, is not a "gateway to hell". It could summon daemons if used in such a manner, but most of the time you are simply summoning forth the spirit that risides in said board, or one that chooses to stay withit.

Not nessessarily do you contact relatives or long dead ancestors, but more or less the spirit or entity within the board itself will sometimes portray itself as such.

It will give plenty of useful information, but in the end, it will always ask for something in return...If the user is not careful enough, possession would most commonly occur as that something in return.

Which is why the board is so damned dangerous when used in a naive fashion.

Now to pendulums...These are more for yes or no questions. You may use them as a way to find bad energy in certain places as with Reiki. But they do not heal the bad energies. It depends as well on whether the pendulum has a crystal attached, or just a plain ole necklace, or stone. Differant pendulums have differant effects. They all vary accordingly.

How long do you think a 'demon' would lead a person on, thinking it is a helpful spirit or deceased relative?

Use ouija to detect the colour of the car.

I honestly don't know the answer for those questions. What I do know is this: I have never been any good at seeing my own future, though I have seen other people's futures - and the answers the ouija board gave about my life did come true. I don't know if it was spirit controlled if it came from my own abilities of foresight. All I do know is that it was accurate, and it wasn't the ideo effect Dragonrouge thinks so highly of!

Around the time the OB became popular It was a parlor game...an ice breaker at parlor parties.
It was never considered a fortune telling device...only a conduit for subtle anyalisis.

Actually, no, I don't need the board to see the future of others. Sometimes I just look at a person, and see it. It's hard to look at someone sometimes and know something, and know it's best to say nothing about it. I learned the hard way to not say what I see because some people freak out.

I wish I knew why I see one person's future and not another's. I have no control over who's future I see, or how far into the future the vision is. :( (Yes, it can be frustrating!)

The few times I used the Ouija Board was when I was a pre-teen and teenager, and I asked only questions about myself.

Anytime I have used a ouija board, the other person was pushing it. (Don't you just hate that!?) I have never heard of using a pendulum in place of a ouija board, that sounds interesting. However, I believe the cardboard ouija boards you can walk into Wal-Mart and buy are nothing more than play toys. Traditional boards, made of wood, and more natural products, can be used to possible contact otherworldly things.

I have only ever seen a Ouija board used as a game. So for me, I do not think it would be accurate at all regardless of what you use for an indicator on it.

1.If the subconscious would be aware of the future(I don`t deny this) and IF it can communicate to us through a OB, our experiment would be succesful in 90% maybe more.

2.If the spirits would be the explanation for that, then the spirit either don`t want to help us and cheats (so the OB is no use to know the future for sure) or the spirits really don`t have nothing to do with it.

I prefer to use a pendulum as they're more portable. I don't trust Ouija boards since my aunt had a bad experience with one.

Having said that, the board does have one major advantage over the pendulum; you're not restricted to asking yes/no questions. Plus, the movement of a pendulum can be more easily influenced by your own hand or (depending on what it's made from) water pipes or even a breeze...

I use a pendulum,it is much more accurate , and they have been used in the mountains by granny witches for ever .some used a wedding ring, others used a silver pin they also used a crystal that they went out and dug up . I have a crystal that I personally dug and it hangs from a silver chain ,and I also made a yes -no board to answer different Questions.

I haven't tried the Pendulum but I have tried the Ouiji board and, personally, I think that it's our minds sub-conciously sending signals to our hands to move it.. Im sure there are other ways of contacting the other side..

The OuiJa Board has a lot of superstitions around it now due to books and movies and because anyone can buy it in toy stores. It's not a toy though and anything mishandled can have a dire effect and that goes for any form of divination.

I have been using a board for over 40 years and never once had a bad occurance with it. Most spiritualists don't have bad happenings. I do not believe in demons and think it is something altogether different that causes problems but I won't get into that here. You must know how to shield properly and quite frankly the Wiccan types of shielding that is so often taught now is not always sufficient for this nor are religious types all the time.

It is not inherently dangerous it is that certain people draw negative entities to them just by their very nature and some are drawn to the innocent which are children and they should not be toying with a board or with pendulums anyway but now everything is so prevalent and easy to come by in the stores such as tarot cards and you name it anyone can use them. I think in anything one does if they mock the use of it or don't know what they are doing they set themselves up for a bad experience but as for a gateway to hell one would have to believe for the most part in Judeo/Christianity for that to be a viable statement. I personally don't from that perspective. So I don't think about that at all but I do have beliefs that paralell so to each his own but if you want to use one you should first do it with a knowledgeble seasoned person in the use of any of these divination methods.

I dont know about Pendulums but I learned to stay away from Ouji Boards! I wont ever have one around again. I had a very bad experience and upon using one I had something evil attach itself to meand it took forever and a power preist and priestess to get rid of it for me. Not to mention I couldnt get rid of the board for a long time or destroy it.

Everyone here has different thoughts and feelings and experiences.

What you should do is learn all you can about both, use the proper safeguards and be careful and try both and see what is best for you.

I think it is more of a personal choice of what ppl prefer to use. I think sometimes that suggestions of evil in a board will cause some to shy away from it..but that can be said of other things in life as well...most of us fear what we do not know.

I personally have used a Ouja board..and I got a very accurate answer...I asked a question that no one involved would possibly know the answer. I asked the board where my natural mother lived...it told me the area in which I could find her...no one else involved had any idea of where she could have been.

I have not used a board since..but I do know what it did for me. I don't believe that my subconscious knew the answer to the question that would have caused my hands or the hands of the others to have manipulated the answer.

We each have our own personal preferences and have had our own personal experiences and they are all unique to the person. It doesn't make anyone of us right or wrong but makes us individuals.
