Parlor Magick, Stage Magick, Conjuring or Illusion Magick.

Magick is one of the oldest Arts in the world, and is practiced in every culture known. It weaves its threads through Arcane Magick, Alchemy and Ceremonial Magick, and Shamanism.

There is so many different kinds of rites one can do. And they fall under basically under to types of magick.
The lesser (low) Magick and the Greater (high) Magick.

Well, my Question is, What is the different kinds of rites? Why... and do you do them and why.

In these rites, do you use safety as far as keeping all evil from getting to you?
How and why do you or don't you?

Please explain your answers. :)

The Spiritualist use to play parlor games for there was no television at that time.

They would have seances and then there was a black box. I myself call the black box a illusion. Someone would sit in the box with a very low watt light bulb. I believe one's eye's plays tricks on you after staring at the person long enough in the box.

Stage is what it is illusions. I think his name is David Blane. Among others.

A good medium will tell you that they are not allowed to conjure up spirits.

I believe in magick one must always do it for the highest and the best...unless you are creating a illusion as stage. Making a tiger or airplane disappear.

Of course there to my dismay are many fakes.

I still question the Fox Sisters. They had senaces at their homes, and later admitted being fakes and then retracted their story.

This answer would be best described in length in Private conversation, but for the general purposes of amusement, i will post the following.

Stage illusion is meant to entertain, to construct a world view which is different, which is the grandest forms, where there is no difference in what can be what could, and what is. The modern forms of it since the 1500s when they were burning jugglers and illusionists at the stake alongside those versed in herbalism and assorted other things. The book Discoverie of Witchcraft by Reginauld Scot changed all that.

However there are deeper roots to illusory magicks which prey on the senses, yes there are strings and there are wires reported to have been at play in the Oracle of Delphi, yes there are props and tools for any good ritual. the idea behind it is to condition the mind to think and feel, taste and touch, smell and see everything that the one on the "stage" is doing. Modern satanism as brought to us by the departed Anton LaVey, encourages this drama to allow individuals the needed pomp to ascend to their own hedonistic persona. Where as there is equally pompous ceremony and production gone into every catholic ritual, every buddhist ceremony, and every major religious function, they are all choreographed and developed to evoke within the individual those ideas, those feelings which would have the observer become instilled with a feeling of connection to that force. Where the stage magican admits to his audience that it was all a trick of the mind to see what they want you to believe. that it was safe to go home knowing it was fake. The Ceremonial Magician will not tell you that it was false to have those feelings, but will instead instill you with the notion that what you have just witnessed will alter your world view if only partially, that for the doing of the ceremony you are different for it, changed. As we are all aware Change is what is Not safe for religions and persons who wish to remain in power structures of old orders. So thus is claimed for things it is not.

So for the different forms of Magick Necromancy, Conjuring, Druidry, and so on. Its how they apply the ceremonies, how they make use of their tools and their environments to create the changes within their psyche that subconsiously alter the worlds around them. Magick exists, but people expect it to be the grandest of things all the time. But really people....To take solar light and have the plant convert that into energy to grow to give us fruits, and natural processes of yeasts and condensations and refining to extract from it fine wine. That is magick. So to is a single thought within the mind, because it will eventually come to be.

Somethings are vulgar, low and should not be thought, but there are those who think them. There are those even now reading this, and like Oh because I can think it makes me a witch, sorcerer etc...NO....You are a child impersonating someone who has earned their title, and been recognized for their skills in a category by their peers and their elders.
To be under a label such as the type of art you do, is not just to be of that art, but is to apply all forms of that art.

Does not a painter apply the skills of one who draws, blending together their colors like the clothier who dyes the clothes, has the perspective of the architect, the mechanical skill of a surgeon, and the mindset of a priest and scholar to be able to encompass all of the symbolism without words and through images alone. The same goes for one who studies the art.

There are levels of proficiency, levels of a form of mastery. One can be better at it then another because of the amount of effort they put into the proper correspondences, and the proper timing, bringing to life their will through their actions. Not everyone can do this. Not every one should do this. Exactly like not everyone should be a surgeon, or a cop, or put in some position where peoples lives are on the line. Because some people are just petty pieces of shit and dont have the self control. labels in the art are good so long as they do not limit you.

To be a Witch, or Vampire is the same as being a Slave in the BDSM community, a Dyke or Faggot, it is a level of description of who you are. Not some feminist woman who identifies as a man, No A Lesbian woman who emboldens their own masculinity through their jeans, and leather, and short hair. A Witch/Wizard/Mage is someone who has put in the time, and effort to be the best in all areas of their life, to do what it takes to be better.

Any idiot can pick up a pencil and draw on paper and call themselves an artist. So to can a punk teenager who has no respect for nature have some minor success with the symbols and words connecting them to the higher forces. They are ripe cannon fodder, they are the ones who are loudly proclaiming they are what they are. Because they offer nothing else. They do not offer one a means to think outside the box, they do not offer their services amongst those who might aid them. If they do there is no professionalism amongst their works, there is no consistency. Their life can be measured by their debts more then by their gains, and their plagiarism is marked by their claims.

So be different, is the moral of my little dissertation. Be aware of your capacity and know that it takes study, and practice, getting out of the library to become what it is you seek to be. To not be part of a religious movement, but to have that religion move you, become you in every moment of your life, that you are better because of your beliefs. If you dont you miss out on quality of life, you may be busy with drama and friends, but your overall life sucks. Hope you enjoyed my rant.

I have always believed that Magick is the force that binds all. That the different ways or traditions of magick has always been the instiutes of man, much like the different denominations of religions. I have always studied as much of it as I can, from parlor trick to high magick as I feel it is all connected. Infact I am currently studing the Dutch magick of Hex and Spellwork which seems to be based in the Christian / Germanic Folk Magick.

different currents to achieve different forms of the same result. Where one art style might work less favorably over another, or where one style can be combined with another to achieve more optimal results.

yup just depends on the situation and your own skill of where the two can fit, like a puzzle....

Think of it like reconstructing DNA using frog DNA....you have to find the holes of what went missing, and you can do it right, and great sucess, or you can do it wrong and you have the happenings of Jurassic park.

since i cant find it, the source if memory serves was the Sorcerers Handbook, i read it back in high school.

There was a little village and in this little village a sorcerer, and shaman, and witch all lived. They worked together and helped the people, there was no struggle for power between them as they each had their places in the community. their arts are different by the nature of what they would achieve. The Witch using her natural abilities, the Shaman using their connection to the spiritual, and the Sorcerer using their connection the phsyical.

One day a large bear came down from the mountain and died in the middle of the main road. Far to heavy for the individuals of the village to move on their own. They tried to pull it, no horse could move it, it was to heavy to lift. So they send for the village witch.

She looks the bear over and she rubs herbs on its forehead and says to the villagers that it will rot in three days and they should be able to move it then. Well that wasnt fast enough because it was in the middle of the way of the town, and every day was money lost. So they send for the sorcerer, and he makes his conjuration to levitate to the bear out of the way. All he is able to muster is a few feet off the center where it died. Still not enough to get anything done. Then he recommends to the villagers that they should seek the shaman, because this would be his domain. The shaman makes the charge to the spirit of the mountain and to the creatures therein. Four big wolves came then out of the mountain, and devoured the bear in the hour.

The point being that all arts work different. All work, but to different capacity to different situations. The goal being to be not just one or the other, but to be a little of everything and skilled enough at one where you can be that one. Its okay to have limits, there is always something else which will balance out those limits if your unable. So its just a matter of doing which is right for you.

I guess a simple answer would be "magic" is stage or illusions, etc.
"magicks" are spell casting, energy manipulation ie; Chaos magicks, etc.

parlor magick, illusional magic is quite different from pagan, occult magick notice the K added to the latter form of magick which was coned by aleister crowley i believe to seperate to two from being confused.

i personally believe in the goatia and other forms of magick and practice them when i believe i need something more than just physical i use these kinds of magic(k) as a tool to help me in getting/doing what i believe is right.

the process of magick for me is first in thought then in reaction which is me performing the spell or right then reaction which is the final outcome of either the spell right working or being a complete failure but with all this magic(k) a system of belief is needed, faith if you will.

I make use of ceremonial blood rites, and dealing with the demons of the internal realms. Allowing my inner worlds to blend with the macrocosm. Allows for a magnification of the thought and intent of what ever it is to be the subject of my working.

Very effective because it ties together all aspects of my body, and mind into the ceremony, thus making it more effective for me and the manifestation.
