iv'e always thought automatic writing to be a form of clairvoyence myself i think it works as long as the person is in tune,in this line of work there are way to many fakes so it is always hard to tell if the yare being honest or not.
I have heard of this before, and I think that it is possible, but not that everyone who claims to be clairvoyant can do this. I don't think there's any way to use modern tests to prove that it's really happening. I don't think that it's something that can be turned on and off, I think it happens when ever a spirit is around a clairvoyant and needs to say something.
If it really worked for someone, then I guess they could be at risk of posession. I mean it seems as if demons would be more attracted to that person since he/she can experience paranormal activity and even act as a vessel to convey messages from the dead to the living.
Like I said before, I don't believe that everyone that claimed to have this ability could actually do it. I think they treated it as a game to gain fame, if more people thought they really had connections to the dead then more and more people would come and pay them to see their shows, or to use them to talk to a lost loved one.
I don't think it was a sham for every medium, but how can it be used as a therapuetic method?
It's used as a therapeutic method in what's called 'self-knowledge' exercises. It's basically writing whatever comes and not thinking about it.
I think it would be something for a therapist to help a veteran or a rape victim. Because the details that they couldn't remember might be brought up when they did Auto Writing.
I think that's the jest of it.
I'm still researching it. I'll post something more when I find something.
And I agree, MiserableAtBest, I don't think anyone could turn it on and off like a switch. Which is why I was asking if anyone knew of any tests that could prove it.
I wonder if someone could develop a test just for this kind of study to prove whether or not a person is faking it.
While researching this, I found a man that wrote over 400 books using this method. His name was Chico Xavier.
How could anyone be that 'in tune' to be able to write that many books? And how would you go about proving they're frauds or not?
i believe there are cerain studdies that show when real psychics are in the process of working it shows the aura and the energy currents that are being used i think it is possible that the same test could be used on these mediums to see if they are fake or real.
I have heard of the tests that enchantedweb mentioned, but how could you prove that an actual spirit was manipulating this person's hand into writing what it wants. I mean you may be able to prove that the psychics is using his or her abilities but then again how could you prove that he or she isn't actually just writing what ever they can come up with?
A friend of mine who is a medium has shown me many letters from a freind who writes her. The letters is what her friend wants to write and then the letter becomes a whole different language and the writing is so completely different from her friend.
I have attended classes on automatic writing, and have actually seen a person who was in a trance-like state writing on her jeans. When she came out of her trace like state she herself was amazed. I am talking of a woman who was raised a Spiritualist and at that time she was in her 70's.
It is a form of claravoyance.
That's right! They could do the tests to see how the energy around the medium changes but they couldn't be sure whether or not the medium was influences what was written.
Even if they studied the brain of the medium as he or she did it, I'm not sure if they could isolate what could possibly show whether or not the medium was using their powers to contact the spirit or their own words.
You're right, I think it's something that may not be able to be proven my science, so it's entirely up to whether or not you believe in these things. Some may be faking for attention or money but then again other's may actually posess this ability.
But remember mysticwinds, it's not too hard to fake a trance. I'm thinking of pulling up another source from online that can show what I'm talking about.
There was someone who was claiming to write the words of creatures from Mars. It seems a lot like French. And it turned out, she remembered the language of French subconsciously from when she was a little girl and from a story book.
"Psychology professor Théodore Flournoy investigated the claim by 19th century medium, Hélène Smith (Catherine Müller) that she did automatic writing to convey messages from Mars in Martian language. Flournoy concluded that her "Martian" language has a strong resemblance to Ms. Smith's native language of French. Flournoy concluded that her automatic writing was "romances of the subliminal imagination', derived largely from forgotten sources (for example, books read as a child)." He invented the term cryptomnesia to describe this phenomenon. [5]"Skeptics consider automatic writing to be little more than a parlor game, although sometimes useful for self-discovery and for getting started on a writing project." [6]"
So it's not like it's that hard to fool oneself and others. Even in Stage Magic, the magician can fool a whole audience by what the audience thinks is a trance but the magician knows different.
So, even if these people aren't necessarily faking, it wouldn't be to hard for them to be subconsciously remebering some foreign language from their childhood. But then again, I think most people who practice automatic writing and that are in the business of being a clairvoyant and doing shows for money are fake. I just find it hard to believe that they can turn this ability on and off when ever they feel like earning a quick buck.
I do believe that it could work. But with all communication with the dead, there has to be precautions taken. I believe that automatic writing just like the ouija board could be a portal. Make sure that if you tried something like this that you know how to close doors that are opened.
I think only a select special few would be capable of automatic writing in the sense of communicating with demons & the dead.
If it's some kind of hypnotizing for rape victims, then sure
I have always hear automatic writing as free association writhing. you let it all spill out and give control up. I personally believe that it is possible that it is a spirit controlling the writing , but there are other ways to do it too. I mean personally when I do it I have memories from past lives that I couldn't remember any other way other then in the dreams that I don't remember. Long story there but there ea re so many ways for the automatic writing to go unnoticed, like have you ever been in deep thought while you were writing something and when you look down it isn't what you thought you were writing, sometimes it fits and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to have a truly positive test would be to take a parapalegic and have them run the test, if they are able to write well then we know that it isn't them that is writing, now this is the most extreme case and the most surefire way to do this but I am not sure if there are any other ways...
I think it's nothing more than a sham. If someone's hand was moving, unless they are very lucky with scribbling, they'd know what is being written.
I looked into it some years ago, read a few books and gave it a try.
Two things happened...the first was I wrote stuff that was very flowery ( not like me at all ) then 'seemed' to get 'in touch' with 'someone' who 'wrote' that he was a fallen angel.
As far as I'm concerned it was an experiment, I did'nt feel that I was 'producing' anything worthwhile, but felt it was possible that other people might.
It's not something that anyone could prove.
Personally I don't think I could just let go and write what ever comes to mind without realizing it like with automatic writing being used in a therapeutic way. I kind of agree with distortion in the sense that even if the person claimed that he or she wasn't controlling his or her hand they would have to know what was being written because afterall, it is their hand.
I agree with you MiserableAtBest, I would never be able to give over the power to control any part of my body. I have problems with believing someone else could so willingly without even knowing who or what the entity is and what it's purpose is.
I think that's where the danger comes in. If someone wasn't careful and discovered how to do this without taking precautions then they might become possessed or something else.
I could see it being used in therapy because I know when I do exercises like this, I reveal things about myself I didn't really know. It's more so personality traits and also things I remember from when I was little. It amazes me but there wasn't a spirit writing it. I know it was me.
Yeah I mean, just giving control of a part of your body (no matter if it's just your hand) couldn't be safe, what if it wasn't a friendly spirit just trying to get a message across. It could be a more powerful entity with evil intentions and you could easily become posessed because you would be in a vulnerable position.
Jazz musicians doing improve have been MRI'ed soing the lack of activity in the control sectors of the brain, Detectives "crunching cases" Have been MRI'ed showing the use of guided abstract elimination, a stage magician is ready to under go MRI as well. So would you be likely to find a
claimed medium that will under go such process?
Sadly people that persite to cling to such beliefs even after they are exposed is that they are told that if they do not believe, then they don't believe in the after life, and that their souls will not have passage over to the other side, at the same time those that dupe them, hold the persons deceased hostage, they need to go to the automatic writer to get a reading..
yet what if one could do an exircise, one that one could do all by ones self, to "summons" the esence of those we lost to death, or even seperation.. a simple though non phenominal thing, would that not be more personal, It allways seems that no matter what is asked of automatic writers they always brek to their script. Often offering only vague insight, bolstered with secretly obtained information. If you where to sit down and write three catagories, one the persons likes two the persons dislikes three the persons relative likes and dislikes to yours, Isuggest another test
If someone you love has something they want to share share it while they are alive, write it down in a journal, have them write it down as well, then a secret, they know about you that you do not know they know. As well as anything they would not share with you. Then have them seal that in a manilia envelope, not a clear white one.. agree with a third party person to arrange to gain that envelope when they die or when you die, now get the attention of an automatic writer, if they claim to get that person"on the other side" then first go to the known questions.. act as if you have no answers.. match the response.. then go for the question.. "Is their anything they need me to know."
I am fairly familiar with it, as it is mostly used by mediums. I recall seeing it offered somewhere i want to say it was at Lillydale in The southern tier of Ny but I could be mistaken. I personally have never seen it done, but I would agree with what was said above as a person being avessel to have it done. as to a message to a loved one.
If you watch a ball game on TV, you know what is happening but are you playing the game? I see that some here don't feel comfortable letting their hand be in passive gear without full control but you couldn't be any more passive or receptive than watching the boob tube. There is a reason why its called "programming!" Automatic writing is so much safer than what most do for hours on end. The nature of automatic writing is safe. Doesn't matter if it is straight from your guides or sub conscious. Remember that inner child of your needs to say a few things too. This is great for that, even if its a start.
So many people are grounded by grief, they grieve depending on the amount of unfinished relation, "loose ends", unheard phrases, corrupt mediums know this, people want that closer they want to "hear" even if it is through another, something close to what they expect. Grief conselors are seldom visited, they have a person confront their grief, talk about the person as they know them, and come to terms with not taking the time to get to know their deceased.. not the big questions but the little questions.. things we can find.. (like corrupt medium do, in their effects, the mementos they leave behind, most corrupt mediums have friends that work as senior housing, learning things about their family, that info is used in readings that are done for the family of the deceased.
How low is that?
So would a mediums MRI appear more like the Jazz Musician, or the detective, I think that it would be more like a detectives, yet a Native shaman, I think would be more like the jazz musician. The difference I imagine would be in the subtle metaphor factor..
If their is a subtle connection betwwen those deceased , perhaps in prepassage, I imagine that it would be subtle.. like if you ever visited the grave of someone with the now deceased person, you may have a more sentimental presence there, yet if you had that one repitive memory of sitting in your grandpas lap in a recliner.. then their is a connection, that no medium can claim to provide. However nonsensational, it is still something, We seek ghost presence .. as entertainment, for sentimental reasons, and for even vengance, such expectations of them. Performers even in the after life.. a sad thing for me personally to confide in. I perferr a lean escape, not to be the one to pass into what I waited my whole life to see. The liklihood that someone is going to call out to me.. and pull me back, though flattering, I would rather they seek others that share memories of me, rather then a third party person, that could well be a hack.
Ya'll might find this interesting.
Oahspe
''Oahspe is a book written in 1880 by an American dentist named John Ballou Newbrough [1828-1891]. He claimed that it was the result of automatic writing, dictated to him by spirits in a trance. In this trance he wrote the entire book on a very early typewriter (possibly the first such book ever written on a machine!). The spirits were very profilic; Oahspe is about four-fifths the size of the King James Bible, and more than twice the size of the Book of Mormon. Other texts archived at Sacred-texts authored via automatic writing during the 19th century include the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, and Clothed with the Sun.
Oahspe appeared in the context of the Spiritualist movement, the Victorian predecessor of the "New Age" channelling and past life regressions. It has similarities to Theosophy, and, strangely enough, to the rumored science-fiction Scientology mythology (which, of course, has no relationship whatsoever to Oahspe or its adherents). Oahspe inspired a radically different set of spiritual beliefs, called Faithism which has a small following even today. The Faithists do not consider Oahspe the literal truth; instead they find inspiration in its many ethical and spiritual passages.''
The quote by the way is taken from the link webpage. And the link leads to a site where you can read the book.
Hmmm ive never heard of this before very intersting though...
I don't think any medium would be willing to do an MRI while doing any kind of session. I've never heard of one agreeing to it and I couldn't see one doing it because if they're proven a fraud, how damaging to one's self-image would that be?
Plus how would the doctors know what area of the brain processed information like this or got into contact with spirits? How would they go about determining it?
And Distortion, there were a lot of books written by means of automatic writing. I'm going to look into some of those in the morning, right now my internet is messing up quite a lot.
I've heard of it, but agree that allowing any type of spirit to use your body for communication is taking a big risk. Your opening the door to some very dark creatures who wish your demise, an dall those around you. Any one who tries this should be very experienced and very careful....
I don't doubt it DC. ;] I think that's just one of the more known ones.
Billy has hit the nail on the head with his post.
As for MRI and mediums....I don't know any that have been offered one....I can see no reason to say no, as I have said many times a Spiritualist medium has but one task....to give evidence of survival.
Don't need to be a Medium to do this nor or Mediums the only ones connecting Spirit. When I was studying with Ronna Herman, she works with Archangel Michael. She started with the writing and now finds it easier to use the computer to type the messages out. She of course speaks for him. Even the UN had her speak and couple of times. I also studied with James VanPraagh who is a Medium but what the public says to your back you can not control. Easy to dis something and say it ain't so when you are the one that can't or take the time to learn to do it. Some people will never get it. They are too safe in their own heads to see out it.
Oh definietly it works, for some people. I have tried it and well I am not sure what went on. I was drunk and that was when I chose to try it because I was completely open, which they say is a no no for spirit communing. But, I did my white light thing and went on, and was just fine.
Anyway, I tried it and would draw some neat pictures. I would just sit back and let the pen go where it wanted to go. It was cool. I also used the Ouija a lot too. I plan to do it again, as I have my whole life.
I have never had the privilege of see anyone do this. But I think an experience like that would be amazing. As for trying it you would need to be very open minded.
Automatic writing is the process, or product, of writing material that does not come from the conscious thoughts of the writer. People who believe in "automatic writing" say that the writer's hand forms the message, with the person being unaware of what will be written. In some cases, it is done by people in a trance state. Other times the writer is aware (not in a trance) of their surroundings but not of the actions of their writing hand.
i truly believe that anything is possible and this would definitely be possible, demons or more commonly known-abaritions are always coming and going from one body to the next.it is the truly undeserving that they stick with to ensure violence and mayhem
It is basically called ghost writting I had an old house before this one , the people before us were very into the dark , one night sitting at the table with my friend i had a piece of paper and pen we were writting letters but all of a sudden i was like in a trans because she wanted to know about the house and it all started writting and told every thing about the house and what happened to it and what happened before we moved in and bought it. I took all the information down tot he town hall and looked it up and for sure enough that was true what i was writting under automatic writting
i had a page in a 1/2
SatansBride -
When you were in the trance, and the spirit was writing the information about the house, did you see the spirit? Did you communicate with it? Or, was there even a spirit at all? Did you just start writing, like you couldn't see what was manipulating your hand? What do you think causes automatic writing judging from your experience with it.
Testing the medium, by MRI and what to look for, a jazz musician in improve shows a consistant activity and lack of activity, in the processing part of the brain, little activity in the control, like when a detective is cruching a case they use a relative process. So a so called medium, that claims to communicate with, or" seek proof of survival" (strange how a varied presentation is used now) . A spiritualist(before the Fox Sisters would only offer a way for the deceased loved ones to find closer. All this automatic writing and such is parlor games, used to sensationalize people, the progression in so called medium practices can be traced through their exposers. They hold peoples loved ones hostage, come to my shop, and "donate" to speak to and be connected to your loved ones, would it not make more sense for the person who the deceased knows would be used as the writer, if everyone can talk to the dead, and they claim others can(if they buy a series of books) then how come those that buy all the books and spend hours hoping to do what a "medium" did, explain to those ones that they just need to "open their minds". Damn Scam artist, and the people that support their fraud! Teach people to do what they do, not likely the self centered soul thieves, claiming the power to pull people from the after life!!??? really, well such extreme claims, all that is required is a performancethey cannot even do that, why? because the answer is in their rhetoric! Themm and their damned vague answers, unrelated to the questions people have. Bring back the pre-Fox sister spiritualist. Mediums are frauds.
Just for some balance here Dabbler, I would like to point out that most Spiritualist churches do in fact offer help to people who wish to learn more about a variety of mediumistic skills.
Free of charge or just enough to cover the cost of the hall if they don't have a dedicated church.
It is not just the spiritualist I address it is the religions as well, the fall-out from churches usually drifts to spiritualist or the Universal Church, some between the two, I have seen the abuse of the spiritualist church first hand Sinora, I have knowledge of the core beliefs, those people are hindered in educating people, educating people against medium practices. Those that exploit, they have a hostage situation, one that dates back to the Fox Sisters. To teach someone that somehow their loved ones are awaiting passage, when the so called medium, has no knowledge of that person that died or their chosen faith, to take the role of the person or medium, and claim to have a connection that not even the survivors of the deceased can feel, that is gross. Professional grief consolers are strongly against those that claim to be spiritualist, why? because they deal with the fall-out, those that are dragged into such scam practice, what will you tell the person that is cleaned of all or half of the inheired money? That they where not to expect that they would have some connection to someone that died? Where is the closer in that, where is the closer in anything a so called medium does? What is the claimed significants of believing?
If I don't believe in God and Christ, they claim I am going to Hell. But what of spiritualist, they claim one thing, and argue against what they claim, when it suits their purpose, they have splinter groups just like major churches, most of their practice is done by appointment, and they wait to the last minute to tell those they invite.. Do help me clarify, how is that a practice of a legit church, business is more like it.
I think it is very possible to accomplish...It was also used in the movie "Rose Red"....That was the first time I had heard of it though....
Wonderful Topic!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_writing
Parlor games I will find a link to the game that started the fad, so that you can pretend to be a medium as well.
The Amazing Kreskin does the best ones, he holds a board, as a person calls someone on their cell phone, and then as they are on the phone they read the number to him, when he shows them the other side, and what he wrote, Whoooo The number! A variation on an old exposed writer that is where that trick comes from. I liked a few of the methods people used, the one lady the same one that stabs her coma daughters hand (stigmata) she claims to have been used to write divine aspired words as well, turns out it was from an antique concordance, to the saints, a book she got from a Padra she cleaned for. Why not go for the 1,000,000,000 if you know this exist, and someone can do it, then why is the million dollar challenge unmet?
There were many Spiritualists after the Fox sisters that were exposed as being frauds. There were people who were writing books upon books supposedly using this method. Then they started to get exposed one by one, and people stopped cashing in so much money.
A lot of medium who use tarot cards and the like just do it to cash in on the money. They're scam artists. I've met some people who do the tarot cards and send chills up my back and we right about my past, and they didn't charge me anything. I've been told by them, if you have a gift like that, an honest gift, it's not meant to get personal gain from it. I agree with them. I don't believe any real medium should or would gain anything from the situation.
Most people who claim to automatic write, I have to suspect of being a fraud or even fooling themselves that it's happening. Not because I don't believe in it, but because so many people just want to have contact with something other then the living people around them today. I don't believe just anyone can do something like this. I can't believe it. You can either do it or you can't. That's how I see it.
Thank you dabbler for your arguments, they're really good and have got me thinking about different scenarios and cases.
A person can sit down, if they are limber and have basic writing skills, heck do it without basic skills.. I would even suggest you fill-out a questionarre for your loved one that past, a likely way to knock loose some congested memory. alter some questions as to the person you are ghost writing for.. they did things around you that your subconscious knows, how are you at tapping your dusty corners? A good reader, can stir you as well. Bless the few that remain, that let the person know that they are just working with that persons underlying memory, and creating an environment to recover those "hidden" memories. When it gets to much like someone (the reader) is prying into personal matters or pushing you with "secretive info" then kindly dismiss yourself, state that the reading has gone as far as you would like to go, remember the entertainment is top priority in reading, this is the reason that practicing readers are required to post, For Entertainment, and Novelty Purposes.
As a more personal reading that is up to the individual, but be direct in asking what their practice and claim is, as well as how you are to benefit from it.
I think you could do it to amaze your friends..

DireConsequences -
I agree with you, I believe that some people may have this ability, but very few people do. I doubt that the majority of the people that claim to be able to do automatic writing can and are only in it for the money or attention. Personally I don't see how you can fool yourself into believing that you can...and also, those people that claim to be able to teach people how to do this (I think I saw someone mention a class on automatic writing) are fakes and just in it for the money I mean I think you're either born with this ability and it slowly develops over time or you simply do not have it.
Sbetee -
There have been posts made within this thread debating on whether or not automatic writing can be proven and on the different tests that mayb possibly prove it's existence...but I doubt it's been proven to exist yet...so I am going to say it's all in what you believe. If you believe it's real, then that's great...and if you don't then that's great to, everyone has their own opinion.
To say everyone has their own opinion is to lack critical thinking, the natural question is, "What is your opinion based on?" It is my opinion that it is all very fake. That is based on every case that has been exposed, and the fact that there is a reward of 1,000,000,000 dollars to anyone who can prove this ability. Believe.. imagine .. but are you convinced? Are You Convinced, you base an opinion on something, Would that mean you are convinced?
I am not really sure if I understand your post dabbler, but I am going to say if what someone bases his or her opinion is sufficient enough for them then why not let them believe in it? I didn't say that it's real simply because someone believes in it.
When one discredits evidence to the contrary and then insist that someone is some how closed minded for not believing, or unenlightened, then it is important to note the difference. I have not seen that in this thread, I see it less on this site as well. It is a valid point, those that think they are better then others us that phrase to dismiss those that expose fraud.. they say to would be "sitters" if you are open minded, then you will find that anything you believe can happen, that is great, then why can't the person get an exact answer to a simple question? Without writing something down themselves first? what is with all the crafty routine crap, I can believe it is A fraud, So Now You Have To Believe It Is As Well! It is my Opinion that all the people that do this are Nuts, never mind why, I just do? I mean I believe you are duped if you have anybody do this, see that whole belief crap works two ways. The foundation for rhetoric, I could google it .. or you can, so until (since you are so convinced .. or are you, is it just belief? You never answered that.
So I am just going to assume that you are asking me whether I think it's all in belief, and my answer to that is no. I mean I am not saying that because you have belief in something then that something is real. I am saying that I don't have a reason to doubt the existence of automatic writing and any reason to believe in it's existence, and basically what I was trying to say when I said "everyone has their own opinion" I mean that everyone has their reasons for believing what they want, why should it matter to someone else if someone believes in automatic writing even if it can be proved fake?
The power of endorsement ! When a popular fad hits it is the believer or the undefined people that sway others to go to the fakes.
If people with blind faith are streaming into or hanging out in line, someone who is initially objective, is likely to gravitate to an event. Example, 100 people where told about a UFO trip, a guy got 75 people too pass along the trip info, they recieved a discount or even free (aside from expenses) trip. 25 people where brought forward, they payed around 300 each. So what was it they where going to see, well before they saw anything they got a pitch from a time share like outfit.. then at after sun down they saw craft in the far sky, the hype, pictures bliss, had anybod been observant they would have noticed the fair they passed on the way there, thats right a fair with Hot Air Balloons. So how would you like to be the one that told a friend, "Hey there could be an alien siting?", in my opinion the guy is not a scam." "I mean look at all these people that "paid"". " Right?
so my question is, why not just consider it all imagined? One can Imagine it is real? No commitment no debate, no cluttered opinions in the head.
I can imagine a ghost to the point of creating one. I have convinced people that ghost exist. only to tell them(evetually) that they where spooked, some still said "We I saw something else."
There are ghost among you, and they perform outside in your blind spots, even if you saw them, you would likely dismiss them.
the only real way is through Hypnosis... Ive seen a few studies of Clairvoyant individuals under hypnosis pass.. there for i feel Automatic writing a plus for the use of only the past ones contacting the living and not the other way around... it leaves room for fakes..
the hypnosis are a real way of study I'll tell you that... you can find a lire from the start.. its sad
You know that is a good point, say 95% of claims are "eyes open/eyes closed fraud, then to narrow the field down to the 5% use the MRI test as well as the Hypnosis test, along with No-Stock questions (that means that the directive question is made in full presence. Yet again we are at an impass because no one that claims will come forward, and if they do they will use the rhetorric, "The test is to controled" yet interesting how theirs is no less controled in their favor in any sitting. It always follows the same routine as a magic act or parlor game.
Hi Dabbler > The thing is you speak of things you have investigated yourself...things you have seen first hand and I can appreciate that.
I do the same. I can only speak of the things which I have experienced first hand. I cannot speak for splinter groups etc I have no knowledge of them.
Or even what goes on in churches in the USA.
Here in the UK I can tell you that the Spiritualist National Union is a body who regulate and register mediums.
This is a measure to ensure that men and women who serve our churches do so to the best of their ability.
On top of that, the individual churches have presidents and committee members who know what to do if they believe a medium is not behaving in the way they should.
I have combed through that material, a movement needs to be made to recapture the practices that approach sensationalism, and performance/theatrics, a struggle indeed for any that take it up, how many years has the original structure faith been hijacked? As far back as the Fox Sisters awed, (with performance) the original founders.
Having seen a someone guided to look through their loved ones effects to find questions to lingering questions, and finding them, that is notable.
Here in the states as I bet you have their as well, their are gypsy that really exploit others, they are the reason, if I am not mistaken that those that read tarot here in the states need to be licensed, and need to put up signs that say, Intended for Entertainment, and Novelty Purposes Only.
I think automatic writing is a way to communicate with spirits. As is the Ouija board - neither one should EVER be considered a game.
Unfortunately not all people believe that and will dabble with things they do not understand - some will have a bad outcome.
However, if you are interested there are plenty of books on this subject.
I believe it is a form of claravoyance. It's something I've alsways wanted to be able to do, but have never been successful at.
I believe that any attempt to "summon" the dead is very dangerous....
especially Automatic writing.
I have heard of many accounts where a psychic was doing automatic writing, only to be possessed by some negative entity....
I can see no benefit from opening yourself to a spirit and letting it "borrow" your body..... even if there was a slim possiblity of helping others.
Hawk have you any way to set the fake aside from what you claim to be real?
I have seen this done twice. The first time i was complelty sure that the person was honestly not doing it themselves the second time i'm pretty sure that she was faking.. They were two diffrent people at diffrent times.. The first time i watched the handwriting change completly out of the blue it went from the actual persons's handwriting into something completly diffrent and into a completly diffrent word right while the person was writing.. That was great.. The second time i acutally walked out cause i'm that sure it was fake..
What message was written? Was it vague? Was it relative to underlying questions the sitter had?
It is actually a good ice breaker at parties.. I have a link up that shows how Houdini did this trick. That with some secretly obtained info on a new face in the group, you can have a real conversation starter.
This sort of mediumship actually scares me, *shivers* it is not something that I personally get involved with as I have heard so many negative things on the subject.
All the Mystic Ho Ha around this and the Ojye board, have killed a good party device. I mean all the people that so want others to believe it is some portal they are delusional.. and their delusion is enforced by Here Say.. No amount of counter evidence presented against their lack of any evidence (evidence that 1,000,000,000 could be the prize for).
It is all the familiar, rhetoric that stirs people into feeling like they have to agree of their core beliefs will faulter, one can still believe in a meta-verse, even without all the sensational "I can contact the dead" stuff, I mean the ego of someone that claims to have a grasp on the after life. That they can just dial-up a dead person.. I mean give me proof.. any proof, answer a question that is specific, not vague for once, and heres an idea, if your auto writer is so legit record it, from two angles. Not allowing any room for fraud, or cheating.
i heard of this before as well is quite interesting how one brain cell can really go far.. you would be surprised how many smart people are here.

Isn't it possible that the first automatic writer you assumed to be real could have just been practicing those two handwritings, and finally got good enough to change them at will? Or was the change in hand writings really that dramatic? There were no similarities at all?
The content and relevancy of the message, that is what concerns me, how does the reading/sitting go, is everything communicated up front? Or is the acting performer professing theraputical claims? What one invest in such things is the deciding factor to how they will find you transparent. Some will exploite that, Even the shrinks have hacks amoung them, that is a regulated clinical interaction.. ran by lichensed practicers.. now the readers get to operate in the game and novelty in most states of the U.S.
they use a ify' clinical veil, over adoptive religious allusions. However, the regulation enforcers are ham stringed.. until task forces from illinious, a popular focal area for Scam artist, started sharing info. now like gambling (some seers offer numbers) Evn now a days it pays just to get a persons info, for ID thief. All these crafted parlor tricks have been passed off as metaphysical and occult for so long that the hoax is engrained in peoples mind, those that are most prone to the occult, people coming out of religions based on a God Head.. that I have faith.. and I believe in possibilities, and because you cannot prove it is not possible, fall apart under, it is not occult activity, belief in the after life and a sensational astonishing, manipulation of that after life in this one.. is imagination run wild, to belive in the after life is separet from that, and sacred as well, to your assurance. Not accepting the assumed/imagined possibilty that such things are so.. is in no way required.. calling a person closed minded or as religions do closed heart (they also tell you you are going to hell, good person or not, their possibility) so consider reexamining what stock you place in such repeted exposure.. because something is only as "real" as the performer.
A friend went to a medium who used this in the reading, and the message she got was very vague... so as it has been already mentioned finding out if the person doing was a fraud or the real deal is the biggest question.
Also using it in a manner such as to recall memories, done in the proper settings would be something far more believable.
perhaps it could help with astrial projection or pathworking...
could automatic writing be done in other languages, you know, like speaking in tounges, just wondering, not really a big fan of clairvoyance and all that

I'd imagine it could be... I mean, if there's some spirit writing through you and it happens to speak a different language, why wouldn't it use it? lol
Why would you need a test to prove it?
Who cares if science hasn’t caught up with the human side of things.
Let it make the artificial medicine and bombs and the billions it creates out of it’s own greed.
Spiritual and human needs are not it’s main cause so why ask it … it will only help if it can make billions out of ot… lol
If such things are used in a moderating manner (notice the lack of the Medium word) to open a social atmosphere (especially among newly aquainted people) it is a tool, the only "ghost" that is "raised" is a Socialgeist, there are desperate people who invest much too much into such things, using such sittings as thearaphy, or clinical substatuites, ethics come into play with such matters personal, and grief based . They will eventually seek specific answers, answers that will not be "brought from the other side". Mediums have exploited people much to long with Parlor tricks, they have been exposed, and still cause problems for those that perform as entertainers, if a medium was what they claim, then they should be much more accurate then a performer, Correct? Used in an group Ice Breaker context Automatic writing is a Get-to-know about us tool.. nothing clinical.. and it can be abused as well even in that context.. like a match is good to start a warm fire, you cannot build a fire with stacks of matches.
Those that expect automatic writing to settle their grief are usually the ones exploited the most, can a group be led in grief with automatic writing? Perhaps, but I would hope that the person running the performance is a member of the circle of friends shared by the deceased.. Sociogeist: A groups present collective interaction, sometimes chilled by ackward introduction.
I believe it can happen, it happens with me all the time with my poetry I believe my poetry doesn't come from such a dark place but a "higher power" and that alot of what I write has to do with my beliefs, so anyway yes I believe in it, and I believe it happens alot more than what people say
Much like fyrestrike I have always understood it as free association writing. This is something I have practiced myself many times, particularly when I was still a firm believer of the Christian faith. It is definitely something that can be used therapeutically to clear the mind. While I would like to believe that it is the product of spiritual influence, I can't convince myself it is anything other than a psychological effect of the mind. It would make for a very interesting study if there's not one out there already.
I have done automatic writing for over 40 years starting in high school in the 60's. I've written poetry, subject papers, short stories.... whymsical fantasies.... even drawn pictures through it... it just takes time and effort to reach a state of relaxation to "focus" on what you are going to write.

Am doing research on this topic. Personally believe that this is possible to do if one can let themselves reach a certain plain of meditation and intense relaxation. This subject is facinating to me and definately one in which I would like to study more. Will come back after more research.
I am unsure how I feel on this subject at this time. I have read what was posted and am thinking upon it.
For me though I have to say that there have been times when I have been in a state where I was writing things that I didn't at the time understand. After contemplation and going back to things writen, it seems more like I was writing what I had dreamed about but could not previously remember.
Of course this only happens at times when I have been under extreme amounts of stress and lack of sleep to the point of exhaustion.
I think it is deffinatly a topic to explore more on. Should be interesting to see what others say and come up with. :D
