Today I got an icky feeling on my back....like something wanted to hurt me. I thought it was an idiotic feeling because everyone was paying attention to the sermon (this just so happened to be at church). So I close my eyes and imagine a violet egg around me...as an aid for protection. After I made my egg... I saw in my vision a wolfs face at profile. I opened my eyes and I was still at church so I thought it was simply my imagination....or a thought forming as picture. Well when I closed my eyes again I saw more of the wolf. The wolf was sniffing the ground....and walking towards me. This leads me to believe i am at the end of its path, and that it wishes to cause me harm. Only problem is....I dont know who...or why...or even how they want to hurt me. Does anyone know any charicteristics of the wolves or have any suggestions or comments that will help me find out who the wolf is before they do what they intend?
well what makes you think the Wolf is the one to harm you and not the one who is trying to warn you, of enpending danger.?? I am Native american and I always feel the wolf is my guide.. so I guess it is what one believes.
I am a panther.....so instict I suppose.....I just cant shake the feeling that a wolf is trying to find me....he was searching for his prey....if it is a male at all....and Im what they are looking for.....It may not be harm...simply ill intent.....I just dont know who it represents.....Im pretty sure the wolf is symbolizing a person.
I agree, wolves are usually spirit guides that are not malicious. Maybe you were just really letting your mind wander during the sermon
I believe that wolves are guides too. Just be warned that something around you is going on and try to find out who or what is happening.
totem animals aren't about to hurt anyone.
The wolf usually signifies when something wrongful or deceitful is coming your way meaning probably someone you know or some one you work with wants to get you into trouble, or its simply trying to ingest into your mind to wisen up about a choice your about to make
What's amazing to me is that you were doing this at church during a sermon. I have never heard about any ill intent from wolves either, however these images that YOU have and what the wolf represents can only be defined the way it makes YOU feel, not others. People have their own definitions of animals and how they feel toward them, a certain way. The way something makes YOU feel, is the best way to understand it. So with that said, really only you can determine what this vision of yours really means and to take the precautions needed to make u feel more safe in your surroundings.
I would go by your instincts on this, forget about totems as this isn't a totem if your feeling fear. I would suggest it is a representation of who ever it is that is hunting you down like a wolf. Someone that has an evil intention towards you. Perhaps this person is using a wolf image on the Astral and his looking for you.
I would think back on people in your life that have caused you harm or would come back and cause you trouble in life if they would return.
I beleive the wolf was not searching for you but for what was trying to hurt you, its prey was the one who was threathing you.
The wolf wass seeking its prey, it was not you but the being near you ready to hurt you at any moment, that is why you felt ill, du to the proximity of the danger
I was working on my Shaman training and was working with animal totems.
It is well known that we all have animal spirit guides. Some of these guides are with you your whole life, while other ones come into your life as you progress spiritually and where you are in life to help you along. After you get past a certain stage or part of life, they leave and another comes, that represents where you are in life, again, to guide.
I have this from my totem guide. See if this applies to life right now.
"The Wolf
When a lone wolf is spotted in the wilderness it embodies the energy of freedom. When seen in a pack it embodies a sense of community. If wolf appears to you alone or in a pack it is asking you to acquire the same within your own life. In spite of their negative press wolves are actually friendly, social and highly intelligent.
The wolf's senses are highly developed. Their intelligence is marked with excellent hearing, sense of smell and strong feeling. They are determined as well as cunning and use these skills for the benefit of the pack. The howl of the wolf is primal and penetrating. They howl to find other pack members or to let wolves from outside of the pack know their territory boundaries. If you hear a wolf howl it might be telling you to stand your ground and defend your boundaries.
Wolf teaches you to have a balance between the needs your family has of you and the needs you have for yourself. They are totally loyal to the pack but do not give up their identity to the pack. If wolf appears in your life you are being asked to look at where you are being too dependent and where you may be too independent. In both family and community there needs to be a balance.
Wolves convey much with their bodies. If they are angry, they may stick their ears straight up and bare their teeth. A wolf who is suspicious pulls its ears back and squints. Fear is often shown by flattening the ears against the head. A wolf who wants to play dances and bows playfully. Their body language is symbolic for those with this medicine. Man also uses body language to convey messages. The study of this art can increase perception in those with this totem.
Wolves hunt in packs, relying on endurance to run down weak and older animals. They have been known to run 35 miles a day in pursuit. They are the epitome of stamina and strength. With an extremely well developed societal organization, they act together to hunt and raise their young. They do not fight unnecessarily and often go out of their way to avoid fighting. Sometimes a growl, a glance, a posture is all that is necessary to determine dominance. Wolf teaches those with this medicine to know who you are and to develop strength and confidence in what you do. "
I have a wolf spirit, the wolf usually gets a bad rep especially in churches because it is used as an icon of destruction, when really the wolf is a Guardian, protector, also known as a teacher and has a connection to the great spirit through the messenger, if a Wolf was out to harm you, you wouldn't have time to be afraid, they are skillful hunters. The wolf is one of the Most protective creatures, they will keep their family or guarded ones safe at any cost, it may just be lingering waiting for what ever is coming for you to show its self before making a move. Or could even be having that experience to awaken something within your self. Never judge by a cover, a thrashed beast could be the one to save you from what appears to be an angel of light seeking to destroy you... nothing in this world is what it seems... look deeper.
I would follow your instincts and do what you can to find out who and why someone would want to threaten you or make you feel under threat. The wolf could be a clue as to who this person might be.
I would also agree that if your seeing a vison of a wolf could be trying to protect you from danger
In America, it seems the Native Americans were the only people who really understood the wolf. It's beyond our concepts, even if you happened to buy little cards that tell you what your totem animal is and read it's handy dandy book.
Perhaps you should study the wolf, see its characteristics. In just watching them, it should be obvious that they are not something to fear, and if you do fear them, perhaps you should study yourself because there is something within you that distorts the good in things around you.
well, if the wolf you imagined was black, that is a symbol of death. I'm sure if the wolf was a normal gray/white color, you're all good.
As others have already stated wolves are generally found to be spirit guides and protectors.
Sometimes what you are seeing right in front of you is not what you should be afraid of it's what you can't see that might be out to get you.
Not all the time but at times this has proven to be true.
I consider visions to be on the same level as dreams.
Wolves may have positive or negative meaning and may represent good or evil in dreams. They could represent hostility, aggression, sneakiness, and ferocious appetites. In some cultures, wolves represent feminine energies and in others masculine. In the Native American culture and tradition, the wolf is a symbol of a mysterious and wonderful teacher. Wolves are considered to be powerful guides who offer wisdom and enlightenment.
When interpreting your dream consider your feelings in it and the mood upon awakening. If you were mesmerized and not afraid, then give your dream positive meaning and accept its message.

Meaning of Dreams about Wolves
I recently wrote a two part article on the Wolf and there is a lot of information on them. I couldn't fit it into a decent size work. It got very long. I gave the first part to my house. The second is on Lycanthropy. I have written on totems previously as well. Your birth totem is set so if you were born between February 19 to March 20 yours would be a wolf. There are nine altogether and the rest choose you. Some stay throughout your life and others are like teachers passing through that will appear. Perhaps this is a sign of something coming to pass. People think of the wolf in a scary way but they are shy and very intelligent. It is man that one should be scared of and not the wolf. Many of them are extinct. There are no longer any wolves in the British Isles...they have all been eradicated since the late 1700s but there are still some in Europe. I am sure you might find them in zoos unless some of these countries has tried to repopulate them but I didn't find that in any of the information I read.
Thank you for all your posts. They are helping a little. The vision was very shadow like.....im not strong enough to pick up most details such as color and the like. As more than one person has stated...your animal and spirit guides change. Im not so sure anymore if it wants to harm me (or if its a person who wants to harm me) or if it is a teacher or a form of a teacher who is seeking me out. But that doesnt explain the...not exactly fear....but like something wasnt right. Last time I got this feeling my friend Chris died a couple of months later.....which is probably why my first assumption was harm.
XTCraver, black wolves symbolize death? I've never heard this before. I've heard that about a black dog though. Where did you get that information?
As for the original post, I believe that you should do some of your own research in regards to the wolf and all that it symbolizes. I've never heard of them being anything other than a positive force. I always thought that they symbolized strength, wisdom and guidance.
Ok...I did some research myself mid-post and I discovered something interesting. Upon checking out wolves in folklore, religion and mythology, I have found that for the most part, the wolf has always been a revered animal and was often worshiped by different tribes around the world. What I found that was so interesting, however, was that while it was looked upon kindly by Native Americans, the Japanese, Romans, etc, when it came to Christianity, that wasn't the case. The wolf was often seen as something negative. The wolf is repeatedly mentioned in the scriptures as an enemy of flocks: a metaphor for evil men with a lust for power and dishonest gain, as well as a metaphor for Satan preying on innocent God-fearing Christians, contrasted with the shepherd Jesus who keeps his flock safe.--Wikipedia
*shrugs* I just thought it was a neat connection to the fact that you experienced this vision during a sermon. Could it have been about wolves or anything like that? Anything that might have triggered such a vision? Or perhaps it was a daydream, maybe because you were tired and your mind drifted? I don't know. Good luck with figuring it out though. :)
You may have something that you fear and the wolf was letting you know he would protect you of your fear.
I would mediate on and see what may happen in your meditation.
Yes they believed that but I don't think they meant the actual physical wolf. I think its more like all the superstitions with a black cat. The cat isn't evil itself but seeing one in certain circumstances was believed to be and the connotation got attached to the cat. It depends on the culture on how they looked at the wolf. Most all Native American tribes revere and emulate the wolf. The Pawnee is most noted for that. Even their hand signal for wolf now means "we're Pawnee." The Cheyenne also interfaced a lot with the wolves but then you have to remember that wolves are associated with lycanthropy in one form so there they take on a more sinister look. The Norse berserkers used the wolf skins and took on the persona of the wolf even howling when going into battle and even though they were warriors their actions were feared and they did kill people for no other reason than they felt like it. Many fairy tales and children's stories portray the wolf in a negative way...they outweigh the ones that don't so its sort of apples and oranges but the actual wolf is very retiring and smart unless they are hunted by man...they protect their packs...wouldn't you? The packs are family groups. It is only from what I understand that gray wolves will take in strays once in awhile. They account for all the other wolves ( subspecies of the gray wolf) but the red wolf. They are a specific species as well as the gray wolf is the common name...it is the same as Timber wolf all others fall under that group including the Artic wolf...the classification has nothing really to do with the color of the wolf. It is probably an omen of something...an archetypal type of thing. Perhaps how her unconscious is portraying things to her in a sleeping state. Could be anything, only the dreamer can really decipher that.
this may seem strange but from my point of view maybe it is a mate seeking you asuming that the wolf is only in that form to track you down. Maybe it was someone from your church and that's why the feeling came up. like maybe they were watching you. it is up to you to decide on what it might have been though.
many spirit guides seem to watch over us, maybe a spirit guide to you, Not harm or ill fated luck but as reasurrance of your guardain.
i believe that the wolf was not there to harm you. but maybe warn you of something. as i too think that a wolf in some places in the world are beings of light. but what i want to know is if the wolf was black white or Grey. as that could also be a grim. or an omen of ill happenings.
I don't think the 'wolf' was trying to hurt you rather than protect you. If you got any bad vibes from it maybe it was the 'fierce-ness' for protection. One exactly can't protect while all in a good mood and whatnot.
it could have been a bad spirit. uou might have upset it in some way.
perhaps it's "searching" is just your inner showing perhaps your looking for something, or should be?
it can be just what your cat is picking up on...or there may have been another of your kind around.
I would suggest looking into what yur guides are.... when Panther first came to be my guide i felt threatened but in time i realized it wasnt something to be afraid of....
I have a black wolf as a spirit guide. Wolves, in general, are very protective and have a vast amount of wisdom, and usually make great teachers.
The wolf you saw was probably there to either protect you or lead you towards your new path, whatever that may be.
i agree that the wolf was there as protection from something and not to cause you any harm
Are you sure the wolf wanted to harm you? It could have been your spirit guide...If you look into the wolf more, it may help you find out why you felt that way
(like harm was going to happen). If it is the wolf however, that was meant to cause harm, try to remember that certain creatures, like demons for instance, can manifest themselves in many different forms. A wolf may just have been what was chosen, to make you possibly believe that it is there to protect you, since the way it appeared would lead one to think that it is a spirit guide.
Interesting....personally I wouldn't take the wolf as a threat unless it was growling/snarling/barking at you in the vision. But since you get such a negative feeling from it anyway....is there anyone you know that you identify as a wolf, or has a wolf as their familiar? It could've been them. Why they would want to hurt you, I don't know. You'd have to figure that out yourself.
a wolf is a guide on a path of your next trial, also the wolf protects a person on their next journey. sound to mew you are on track for your next journey on the path of spirituality....
Ive always thought as wolves as a guide as it seems many other do s well. Not a thing with the intention of hurt.
I doubt the wolf would try to harm you. Wolves are good as spirit protectors and wouldn't do harm. It was, more than likely, another being doing so.
The most important part of this vision is how you felt during it. Since you seemingly felt threatened by the wolf then I have to wonder if you feel that someone around you is misrepresenting themselves. Linking it to the saying "a wolf in sheeps clothing."
However by your description he only sniffed the ground and did not growl or show any animosity. Wolves are considered leaders and protectors in some arenas and perhaps he was looking to help you.
If you were in church when this happened, and it was the wolf you were afraid of, maybe the wolf represents a fellow church person. It may not necessarily mean that someone from ur church wants to hurt u, but it's a possibility. Maybe the wolf wants you to help someone from ur church because it is they who need the protection. Depending on what you beleive, this vision can be read in many ways.
This is jsut a hunch but maybe since being in church it was just a for warning that there is to be some playing on the devils side ahead of you...maybe he has some triks up his sleeves
The wolf can symbolize something or someone. Wolves represent loyalty. So maybe someone who is loyal to something or may be trying to cause harm to you. Check with the poeple you know to find out any more info on what is happening.
sometimes in christianity the minister will refer to evil or ill intent as the wolf knocking at the door, such as the story of red riding hood
according to native american lore.........
the wolf is the sign of family. if you have ever been attacked by any kind of canine and had dreams of wolves this is most likely your spirit animal and your protector.
the wolf was probably trying to tell you something. you should try and listen.

The wolf was there to protect you and to guide u along the correct path
hon wolves are there to make sure that you are ok they dont harm us like you think they do on this one I must agree with everyone else on what they have been teling you about the wolves
i myself am a wolf and i can tell you if it whanted to hurt you it would have. if its sniffing around it means it reconizes your scent so you might have one time been a wolf or friends with it in the past and have no memory of it. i am sure of it that either way it means no harm but it is trying to get to you to help you in what way is not so clear tho.
yeah i agree with lance ive read through the posts and his makes more sense! to me anyway? the wolf is your protector not your enemy!!!
i also feel the wolf is you spirt animal and protector .. my daughter was having a reaccuring dream of a pack of wolves following her and running after her.. after many nights she came to realise that they were trying to protect her. they are her spirt animal.. maybe there is something the wolfe is trying to shiled you from.. go in with a open mind .. let it come to you. dont be afaid.. wolfes are very protective.. hope this helps blesses be.
Being part Commanche, the animal totems are very important to us. My spirit guide is a wolf. Wolves are a very noble beautiful creatures. They only kill for food or to protect themselves. They are not a malicious creature. You should feel honored that a wolf came to you. Do not fear it, or shrink away from it. Instead open yourself up to it. Let it guide you, it has something to share with you. Do not be afraid, instead enjoy it.
If you're a panther, then the one who might want to harm you might be being represented as a wolf.
but I agree with most everyone...wolves are normally protectors.
I am both panther and wolf and wolf's are protective and spiritual he was more tune into your wild side and after this person who tries to hurt you all creatures of god accept each other wild attractions.
Sometimes when on picks up on something psychically you will get the message in symbols rather than hey...such and so forth and it is for you to see how it fits. This is why it is hard for some psychics to deciper things because what they are seeing is symbology (not all but many). After awhile they get to know pretty closely what certain things mean. It could be a warning, might have something to do with your pack, "family." It could be any number of things. Dogs evolved from the wolf so the wolf to me would be higher symbology than seeing a dog. Just my opinion though.
Sorry for all the typos and I agree with the Native American man because they are beautiful and they are pretty benign unless man threatens them. I think it was trying to tell you something is all. From that point you will have to be the person to figure out what that something is and let it play out. Man almost killed out the red wolf in the US but they repopulated them and put back into the natural wild. All the rest are Gray wolves and their sub-species now. Timber Wolf is another name for the Gray Wolf.
the wolf is a powerful spirt guide my spirt guide is also a black wolf so i know what you feel if you need anyhelpthe message me or anyone else about spirt gudes im in to wicca i know
Wolves usually warn you someone is trying to stab you in the back. Take the warning & watch for fake smiles.
I've always believed wolves to be friendly and protecting [like many others here]
i belive its there to warn you of up comming trouble. i have a wolf guide and when ever something bad is going to happen it comes to me weather a dream or throgh the conner of my eye i know that something is not right and that he is warning me to watch out.
I always thought wolves were spirit guides. Let me know what you find out.
I think when you are interpreting a vision you have to be the one to do it. Think about it if the wolf is scary to you or you think your going to be hurt by it then it is a warning to have your guard up. If you say something that calms you and then something bad happened that would warn you to be careful of things you don't fine threatening. Visions are personal experiences and you have to treat them like that. What may calm one would scare another so the visions are shown to you so you can understand them.
visons and dreams of wolfs are offten a sign of lycanthropy
I think the wolf was ur power animal, and there to warn you of danger so don't be scared hun:)
I agree with dark soul.. the wolf was your power animal..
wow akashadarksoul and Undervampsgaze
thats intresting thought and i agree it could be pasable
so she should go to a native shaman and do a sweat lodage and go on a vision quest
I think the wolf was trying to show you something and you should look more in to it .
While different reprensentations of different spirit guides or animals mean different things to different people, acquiring a new one may be a scary thing if it goes against what you are used to. You said you had a feeling of negativity (Im paraphrasing because I dont remember your exact words) aimed at you and then you called up a protection sheild, when you opened your eyes you saw the wolf...According to the sequence of events the wolf came after you called for protection. The wolf was sniffing around, perhaps looking for the unseen negativity for you.
While I personally have never heard of a wolf being used to describe a negative spirit.. I was always raised with the understanding that they are protectors and represent families....that doesnt mean it isnt possible.
Perhaps it is telling you to watch for danger. Keep looking around and watch your step. A dog can sniff many dangers so watch where you go and what you do.
I am in agreement with almost everyone here that the wolf was there to protect you and the harm that you were fearing was not coming from it but another source you could not see.
We always think the worse when it comes to a wolf. I like everyone think it could be more a warning then out to harm you.
could it be possible that the egg is the church
and the fear felt by the wolf
may be a inner sense of guilt from desire of a better past time
then going to worship?
Wolf, eh?
No pisser wolf is my guide. My guides, are pure, archetypal, and possessing such adventurous spirit impossible to be matched by any other.
Pissy wolves, and their eight cub lair cave that reeks of urine fumes, cannot possibly be anyones guide.
This misconception has been created out of human attraction toward the animals fur, nothing more.
Such idea that a wolf is special is such impossible idea.
And what is there to be attracted about, it is all a flea.
Anyway, to me, ok, to me, panthers look like elephants.

MOOOOO!
One of my older brothers after not shaving for spell, now that's the vision of a wolf, hands down.
