Through doing research on the origins of vampires i have come across many theories on the Who, What, Why, When.
I wanted to hear your thoughts and what you believe.
Each theory seems to have a good point:
Parasitc:Teeth growing to feed on prey
Historical:Witness accounts
Magical:Scriptures referring to beings who drank blood
Mystical:The pre bible recordings and theories
You see what I mean, so what do you think?
Or a state of mind created from Media interpretation and the smallest hope media represented mystical vampire figures do exist?
(Sorry 4got about that 1)
I believe that vampirism is both a state of mind and a magical/mystical thing. I'm not all too sure that I believe some of the stories about how they came into being, or other stories about them in general for that matter, but I do believe that vampires have ties to many things.
vampirism is a state of mind man it is every thing you want it to be. if you want it to be dark and mysterious it is if you want it to be sexual and enlighting it is. thats why it is the most powerful thing there its whatever YOU want
I suppose (good point)
Maybe need to tweak the question a bit.
If vampires are real are they...........maybe
I've not really thought about this in too much depth...
However... I have thought on it...hehehe. Here's what I got..
I can dig the Magickal/Mystical theory... how else would other wise "dead" tissue remain that CONTROLABLY animated (meaning the spirit of the initial user remaining conciously in the human body..you get it...).
Also the parasitic one as well...
The teeth are a good hint. Cause we all know.. we don't REALLY have to "bite" to draw blood...
Biblical?... Watch Dracula 2000... that actually makes a lot of good sense when they throw the whole thing together at the end of the movie. =)
Media?... well...hehehe.. **looks around at some of the people on this site**
Kinda speaks for itself, don't it?
Not to knock anyone on here... but c'mon... there ARE people out there who are just OH SO fascinated by the idea of being a vampire (thanks to Ms. Rice for that) that it's all they think about. It turns into an all consuming thing for them... it IS their life.
**Note to reader: Yes, I'm aware my handle is an Anne Rice vampire, now that you've read that.... but I don't ACTUALLY sleep in a coffin... own one? *snrk* maybe... but I dont sleep in the damned thing.
I agree with crimson.
For me, it is a way of life-- something secluded that not many know bout-- as the old Wiccan saying goes 'To know, to Dare, to Keep Silent.'
Not many know of this fetish of sorts, but they do know I use it and am vampiric in a Wiccan state, and just accept it as 'Nara's little witchie thing.'
Blood is the lineage of life itself, both in life and death. With this, the spiritual essance of a person transcends and brings powers to those who drink of it, knowing the other on an entirely different leve.
The award for best info goes to Khayman
~applause~
Much appreciated good point I startin to lean towards parasitic disease though
I'd sleep in one if I could. I've always been fascinated with the fetish of being all dressed up like a porcelain doll and put on display in a box while I slept.
Awwww.... thanks, Chaos... you make me feel all warm and fuzzy=)
i've heard( but it may be just 4 justifying the masquarade role playing game) the the when cain killed his brother god cursed him to become the 1st vampire.
all his sons were the creators of the clans...
Upon thinking about it, I suppose the tissue could be rejuvinated by a passed on parasite... hmm... more delving is needed, I think.
I agree totaly with Nara and ~K~ ..
I like however the Biblical idea beacause it would give us, humans and vampire alike. A perpose in this life.
However this would lead me to this next Point/Question...
I will post that one...The Bible
I beleive that it is all three...
as a disease there is porphyria....aka the vampire disease....sensitivity to sunlight.....extreme anemia, which causes a blood craving...
then there it the mystical...us psyvamps
then the state of mind....generally gothic or dark....wanting the beauty and power that a vampire has come to represent in current mythology
A state of mind and a way to find comon ground by focusing on what is the same in us instead of what is different.
ChaosBleed:
The source of vampirism is the Human Vampiric Virus (HVV). Like Rabies, HVV belongs to the order Mononegavirales, viruses with a nonsegmented, negative-stranded RNA genome. Viruses in this group have a distinct bullet shape. The virus' natural host is a flea commonly found on cave-dwelling bats, especially the vampire bat. In the most common scenario, a bat which has been bitten by the flea passes the virus on to livestock and humans through a bite.
While in theory HVV infection is possible through any exchange of bodily fluids, transmission occurs through the bite of an infected person in virtually every case.
*wink*
Stage One: Infection. Within hours of being bitten, the victim develops a headache, fever, chills and other flu-like symptoms as the body tries to fight off the infection. These symptoms can be easily confused with more common viral infections, although the presence of bite marks on the body are usually enough to confirm the diagnosis. This stage generally lasts between six and twelve hours, during which the vaccine is 100 percent effective.

Excellent site thanx for pointing it out after reading it I can expand on the original question "If it is a Parasitic disease how does that make you feel or is the lifestyle more appealing than how/why you are a vampire?"
and once again pamalicious is triumphant.....I will have to check that site too..thx
i beleave the act of ingesting anothers blood is the most sincere act of love. takeing something inside you and giveing it to another to keep inside is just romantic. it is the true form for expressing one's love. now, as far as takeing it from a lot of other beings as to "stay alive" (or dead if you prefer) is something totaly diff. i like to think it is a state of mind. addicted to what can not be baught. the most precious thing someone has to offer. being addicted, such as one to cigeretts, or drugs. the same state of mind. but i dont consider it to be a mental desease. just a state of mind, for example. when you do something you really love doing (for me its drawing) you get in this state of mind where its only you and what you are doing. sorta like a "zone". i beleave Vampirism is much to the same thing. sorta being in a "zone" where you love to do what you do. simple.
