hey everyone, i was just wondering who everyone thought was better at playing lestat. tom criuse or stuart townsend.
disscuss...............
I think Townsend did the part better.Throuh out all of the books he acted more like Lestat.
in my mind, tom cruise was way better acting, but as the lestat caracter was funnier in "the queen of the damned", most people think the new lestat is a best actor...
i'm lame and never read the books...
as far as who did a better job, all i can say was that i really prefer tom cruise. townsend was such a dork. didn't do shizzit for me as a vampire.
thnx's for all the comments so far!!!!!!!!!!!
personally, i'm leanin to tom. he actually looked like lestat in the film, whereas townsend didn't. i can't judge on looks, i'd keep em both!!!!!!!!!!! hee hee.
Ok... here I am... the ever popular comentator of VR...
I actually liked both of the gentleman in the role... and here's why...
There were several dynamics to the character that each actor played up... no pun intended.
Lestat, to anyone who has read the books... is a child. Not a ten year old... but roughly the same age as Armond. They're both comming out of their adolescent years. Armond is 17. Lestat is not much older (if anyone knows his age, provided it was mentioned, please lemme know as it has slipped my mind..). I want to say late teens early twenties.
Magnus turned him very violently...and then proceeded to leave him behind in a, hehehehe >:) "Blaze of Glory"... roflmao
ANYWAY... I digress...
But that was pertinent to understanding why the Brat Prince came to be known as such... He acted very much like a child would... not only was he a kid but of Noble blood= SPOILED!
Testy, easily angered, spoiled, self-centered little plick.
Tom Cruise - Played up the whole angry thing. He did that very well indeed. The bursts of energy and anger in his portrayal of the role were fabulous... but he didn't really harness what made the character the Brat Prince in the first place.
The whiney, oh woe's me, gimmie it its mine! mentality.
Stuart Townsend- On the other hand... hit THAT right on the head. Pouty gestures... "Ima do it just cause you said I cant..." kind of personality... anyone with kids knows- THATS a teenager to the fullest. Plus i think physically they got closer to him on this one (but thats just me being OVERLY retentive).
So, all in all, they both did wonderfull jobs... But Mr. Townsend (or Mr. Theron, considering his womans popularity... puuurrrrr) I think got a little closer to the soul of the character....
But hey... that's just my oppinion... I could be wrong...
*winks, puts hands in suit pockets, turns and struts off to the bar for another brandy*
oh i *do* think you are wrong missy...
keep on walkin.
Both were good at their portrayal of Lestat. I agree with K, that both brought two different sides to him.
I liked Cruise in his snotty mannerisms, (the dining room table with Louis scene), but Townsend's boldness and ego to offend every one of his kind so the spotlight would be on him was played well.
Tough pick, but I have to chose, I would go with Cruise, he at least had the blonde hair Lestat was said to have.
Ahhhh... democracy at work...
*looks to squiddy*
Now look here, sister-girl.....
roflmao
in my opinion when interview with a vampire came out first, there was no sequel in sight.
according to the success of the novel, anne rice did then write lestat the vampire 9years l8r.
during that time her perception of the character did change.
both actor did great job comparing book/movie.
who was the best actor is know who catch lestat the best...
but was the true lestat the early char? or the late char, corrupt in the writer's head by the success of the 1st book?
i so think it's obviously tom cruise!
Khay he was about 20 when he was brought over :) I think that if you look at the context of the books Khay's right. Tom played his frivolous outbursts and arrogance very well. Where I thought stuart had more of a quiet arrogance. He seemed to laid back and reserved. Not that I am knocking his performance, hell that man is amazing at depicting a vampire... but I must admit by staying true to the books Tom did portray him as a boisterous and brash cruel character.
::nods:: I agree Tom Cruise did portray the more assholey lestat like he is supposed to be. But I must say Stuart Townsend is much easier on the eyes. Heh, a girls point of view!
maybe i should read the books. that might change my opinion but i doubt it. i have my own feelings on what *i* like in a vampire. townsend wasn't it. didn't look it and gawds, didn't act it either. i think i'd kick him in the toe and walk away. not that aaliyah was any better. she was always easy on the eyes but her as a vamp, ick. all that nasty heavy breathing like she has asthma, not to mention her crappy accent. get an inhaler!!! i'll stick with tom cruise. he was such an asshole as well as a sarcastic jerk. loved every minute.
and for you khayman. what is democracy??
hehehehehe...
A good man recently quoted a good movie to me....
THERE IS NO SPOON.
I think both of them doing good work
Its not easy to say wich one is better....i cant chose between tom and stuard...
a mix from both would make the perfect Lestat...
And now, eventhough I saw both movies, I'm going to have to rent them because I can't remember. grrrrrrrrrrr LOL
i agree with Kahy except on ONE LITTLE POINT
Physical match better for townsend? since when did lestat have BROWN HAIR yes i am shouting but that really annoyed me... after all the whole point was that Magnus wanted an Aryan princling...
grrrrrrrr
but as to acting and character, Crusie played IWTV lestat, which was Louis perception of him. Townsend played TVL/QOTD version, from lestats own ideas of himself. after all, he 'wrote' both books....
I wish they had got Cruise and Pitt back for the second film, continuity is nice lol
Tom Cruise sucks at acting.
He couldn't be a vampire even if he was a vampire.
I have to say Tom he acted wonderfully and I think captured a lot of his qualities and what a beautiful movie.
As far as Townsend sure he's a looker but the whole movie pissed me off. What a way to fuck up an absolutely phenomenol story and cheese the hell out of it. Queen of the damned the movie was a piece of crap.
Tarquin Anthony Blackwood is better than Lestat! :P
on a serious note...
I kinda like Tom Cruise...
TOM!! he is so damn sexy and he played a more vicious one than the other lestate, however the other guy did give lestate more mysteriousness about him! they both did excellent and DAMN they are some sexy men!
Its a toss up for me, Tom portraide Lestats Romanitc side the best and Townsend his Witty Humor.
in my opinion through exerience tom cruise did a way better job. its funny how many people love lestat cause he is not that nice and he has a really bad attitude problem but if you wanna know the real lestat visit his website www.lestatdelioncourt.com you'll figure it out but read his rules first cause he hates some things and talk in proper grammer cause the whole symbol internet thing pisses him off. anyways yeah tom cruise did it way better attitude wise, with the anger part and stuart had the layed back attitude perfect so its a win win situation
Stuart Townsend is orgasmic... All the time. I wouldn't mind if he bit me. :p
Points to Xera. I was waiting for someone to mention that.
Tom Cruise played Louis' perception of Lestat, as Interview with the Vampire was written by Louis. Louis saw Lestat as childish, temperamental, and desiring the finer things (Louis says he was made a vampire so Lestat could have his house).
Townsend played Lestat's perception of himself... Sexier, more suave, and powerful.
I have to agree with some, both gentlemen played the parts well. They are both good actors, and sexy not to leave that out either. I have to say I enjoyed Queen of The Damned better as a movie because...I just did. I have to agree they are both good at playing the part, but looks wise I'd go for Stuart.
i have got to say Lestat was better played by Stuart, the whole gothic music could NOT have been played anybetter except by him...Tom didn't have a chance
Ok, Cancer and Xera---
I get the idea=)
Now that I actually go back and read through this thread=)
I guess I just liked the way Townsend portrayed him better... but yes, IWTV was about Lois' perception of the man. I just suppose the arrogant prick in me prefers other arrogant pricks (roflmao).
HAHAHA
Hands down to Stuart Townsend, he played Lestat like a charm. Sensual, mysterious, lonefull, sexual, and just the way you thought of him in the books.
And also about Aaliyah, umm i read one response that was about her....something like she need an inhaler and her accent was bad? Well, whomever said this, didn't u think one second that maybe, someone thought she was good? Cus I did...and I am a HUGE fan
Dont disrespect Aaliyah like that...totally pissed me off, please do her a favor, apologize
So, anyway, stuart i liked much better than tom...but tom was great at playing lestat
i have to say townsend too
think he did the act with confidence.
I think they both did a great job. Towensend very much got the bratty side down. but boy did it piss me off that he had brown hair. I mean come on!
Tom Cruise did a good job as well, he played it more gown up...
remember Interview was done after Lestat had "lived" for a while. And "The Vampire Lestat" was him as a child growning up, and his first years as a vampire. And then"The Queen of the Damned" was more of him after Interview.. which means he was more grown up. But since they squished the two books together for the movie, he didn't get to act more the grown up that he actually was.
I liked them both for different reasons...
And stuart was hot!
both actors were great, but I think Stuart is better.....he's hotter! lol.
LETS see Tom was better at playing the aristocrat lesat and stuart was better at playing ROCK star Lestat
little note here in Anne Rices Mayfair witchs books theres a charctor named stuart townsend then Stuart townsend plays lestat
Steward Townsend was way hotter...I see it this way Tom Cruise was Lestat as he was born in to darkness and as we all do go through an evolution persay and so the Tom Cruise Lestat evolved into the Steward Townsend Lestat...Though some would argue that Townsend's version of Lestat is the de-evolved form if you catch my drift :P Either way I liked Steward Townsend as Lestat better *flicks her tongue*
I think Stuart is better. He makes me feel like he were real. Plus he is HOT!!!!
Tom cruise......I'm being quite vain but I just like his look quite better. He was a maraculous Lestat in my opinion.
umm well tom cruise is so ugly and i'm seeing him play an evil one but stewarrt is the perfect person to play lestat....come on have you checked out him all together?
Townsend is super hot and hes got a nice ass if I may be so bold to state. :D...wouldn't mind getting some of that!
As far as looks go, i preferred Tom Cruise... at least they had the decency to make him blonde like he's meant to be... As a character though i really did prefer Stuart Townsend... As Khayman said he captured what the 'brat prince' is really all about better.
i say Stuart Townsend cause he gave lestat any hmmm how to put it an up to date kind of look but thats just how i see it
well i sure as hell dont like an actor that refuses to play the part as written
what happen to louis and lestat sleeping together what happened to their kissing
so by default townsand
MsLeFaye-
Are you sure thats how the part was written for the movie?
Tom Cruise all the way! I adore his arrogance. He is so much 'Lestatier' (:)) than anybody else =)
Hmm... Stuart....... DON'T LIKE him at all...
both of the actors made the role exceptional in his own way. Townsend had that "I don't care about anything" quality that I liked but with a "human"quality as well. Cruise had that"arrogant, strong, and defiant" quality that is so like the persona that I give to vampires in general.
Tom Cruise is definately my fav,... but then again one of my Usser Profile quotes was from the movie "Collateral"
I really liked them both. I think tom cruise fit the lestat of the time, and stuart townsend fit the more modern lestat. I really cannot say who is "better" because I feel they both did a good job making the role theirs. I enjoyed Queen of the Damned as a vampire movie, but I was disappointed(as were others) in how much they messed up the story. but who is better-neither. Both are great for the periods they are supposed to be portraying
stuart townsand, he was also great in league of extrodinary genteman
