A lot of people think that your thoughts control your dreams. I notice sometimes that if I am really thinking about something or someone, sometimes it effects my dreams. Sometimes a certain t.v. show or a song that I listen to can effect my dreams..So I just want to know, have anyone have that happen to them? Does anyone feel that their thoughts effect their dreams?

I do believe that if you are thinking something before you go to bed you will dream about it.
Sometimes if i have had someone or something on my mind all day then yes i usually do. Most of the time my dreams are random. Sometimes i wonder if i ever dream at all because i never remember them.
Yes, of course your thoughts affect some of your dreams...hell, even the last movie you watched before going to bed can affect your dreams.
I have talked to some of my friends and when I tell them that I believe thoughts control dreams and everyday life as well they don't believe.
If I am having a bad dream and I wish to stop I think of something else or I try to change the dream so it isnt so horrific so yeah I do believe that my thoughts can control my dreams.
Of course your minds wants to work it out, a thought, sighting of someone you have just seen. Worrying about something/someone. Dreams are meant to find a way to fix it, to ease your stress of the day.
the mind is a very powerful thing, they say it is more complex then the most powerful computer. When we are scared or fear something our mind will try and protect us by however it can thats why a lot of people use the term think happy thoughts.
well the dreams are in between plane. you are slept your mind relaxing
mind force is latent and not active but subtle state grown. in this state person if not slept mind and in latent mind either visit to true places of the universe, or form the matter. going true places mostly kept in memory when wake up into active mind state and formed vision is called dream, these dreamss are less remembered by the mind.
in sleeping the person is lighter most of the mind and does not create a stress of the thoughts and calmed the waves of thoughts and in this thoughtless state when the person in latent if wish it do form the dreams to the wish. or the force of the thoughts can not make him well sleep.
its all taken in the technique of shavasana which is the relaxing exercise to step by step to go to thoughtless position and stressless position to pure fresh mind of energies.
in shavasana person get very fastly relaxed by mind, by body and by thoughtlessness.
I would mmm maybe sometimes to that theory as sometimes I"ll dream sometimes with one thought keeping popping its head but normally my dreams are at random.
Dreams are linked with memory. So your memories, thoughts etc....are definately part of dreams. I can account many of dreams to things I was thinking about before I fell asleep or things that have "been on my mind". Sometimes its just a bunch of things jumbled together that are in my head.
different states of mind affect ya dreams too ! stress depression, love happiness all come through in dreams, even sex, even if ya not thinking about it before ya go to sleep, a dream can be affected by ya subconcious and often include people and things that have prayed on ya mind at some point! ive dreamt about fighting with people i dont like and also dreamt about girls ive liked too money matters and even romantic dreams so yes your thoughts can very well affect ya dream in a big way
yes they do. I rarely dream. But when i do whatever i was thinking about right before I fall asleep has a part in my dream.
I think that everything we do in our lives affect our dreams. And a dream is a creation of the brain so thoughts should affect it, though perhaps not thoughts that we are fully aware of.
The mind controls our thoughts. The mind is a very powerful machine it has the ability to do almost anything. It controls the way we do things if thats the case then I am sure it can control our dreams.
The study of dreaming has been around for centuries. And the theories on what the purpose of dreaming and the causes are as varied as those who oppose the opinions. dreaming happens in the REM state between actual sleep and wakefulness. So the body is aware and is affected by it's environment. REM occurs every 60-90 min or so throughout the night. Some people claim that becoming aware that you are dreaming will help you control your dreams even if it's as simple as telling yourself to wake up...it's called lucid dreaming. Some people have been known to solve problems they had been working on during the day.
that makes sense considering your sub-consious mind creates your dreams.
I often dream about the last thoughts on my mind before i go sleep. BUt i have had some pretty wildly vivid dreams the last few nights
I have heard this before, but for me it's not true. I dream of very random things. But I have never dreamt of things that I was thinking about.
I know to alot of people dreams seem random, but the subconsious has a way of translating emotions and perceptions into different images. ie. dreaming of a wolf means family(to each person a dream image means something different because each person is different)... or they are things we've seen during the day that we unconsiously registered and our mind is emptying it's self while we aren't consiously using it. a form of mental relaxation.
That is true. I know my dreams are chaotic a lot of the time.
Definitly , theres a theory that dreaming its a way your brain has to adjust and *file* the events of your daily basis , almost if its an echo of whats been happening with your life.
Sometimes what I am thinking before I sleep affects my dreams but usually my dreams are just random! I can have some really weird dreams!
Yes, you can control your dreams. I have been doing this for yours. I suffered from nightmares as a child. I learned that a dream is an unfinished thought, or a desire. So knowing that, I program what I want to dream about, by thinking intensely about it before I go to sleep. I haven't had a nightmare in decades & I really enjoy my dreams.
adults typically dont have nightmares unless they suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome or have sleep apnea which can cause night terrors. But there are alot of people that learned from nightmares as children how to control their dreams and avoid nightmares.
I belive that is true if your having positive thoughts you can have a good dream
and if your having an negitive thought you could have a bad dream
I have a book on dream interpretation and it states that what you dream is usually your subconscious mind trying to tell you the answers to questions or problems you have in your conscious state but maybe your thoughts and feelings clutter it and that during dream state things come to you clearly.
Well, yes. I know that my subconscious mind sets the stage for the majority of my dreams.
Oh, absolutely. Most dreams are created from little bits and pieces of thoughts that were floating around your subconscious, all thrown together.
When dreaming random thoughts come to you. It can be from a movie you watched to something you haven't thought for many years. it's a hidden thought that can be the most playful.
Sometimes my thoughts control my dreams but not all the time. I can think of something to dream about and sometimes it really do come in my dreams. Most of the time i have dreams that comes out like you reading a book , like i dream a place with the same people all the time for 3 to 4 nights in a row and in the same places. But not all the time .
Sometimes it's just weird ....
if im watching tv and i fall asleep then my dreams are sometimes about that show
fell asleep watching the spanish channel and my dream was in spanish
fell asleep to this welcome home baby or something and everyone in my dream was pregnant ^^
Yeah I hate when I watch something stupid and then dream about it. I was watching the George Lopez show one night with my parents and I had a dream that Benny was bitchin me out for some reason...lol
Well they have done test where one group of people had smelt rotten eggs and they had bad dreams (the odor was released AFTER they were asleep) and they woke complaining of bad dreams . Now in the other room they released the smell of honeysuckles LOL I know.. and those people had great dreams. So your senses your subconscience / conscience all have a part in your dreams when you sleep. I know if I am thinking about something before I go to bed I will dream of what it is I was thinking about LOL
There are many factors that affect our dreams as well as just random ones.
I do believe thoughts can control your dreams especially if you work on making that happen. I was subject to horrible nightmares from a real life occurance at one point and I used medidation techniques and thought regulation to "program" my dreams and so avoid the nightmare. It didn't always work especially at first but with practice I pretty much ended the problem. With plenty of time the nightmares ended and now I only use it when I want to try and dream.
Wow I really did not know that smell could affect your dreams as well.
Depending on my mood or how I feel depends on what sort of dreams I have. Really this would be my mind taking over.
Your thoughts indeed can control your dreams......focused energy can also control those of others.
yes your thoughts controll your dreams that is where your dreams come from
I honestly believe they can control your dreams.
There are times that right before or not long before i am to sleep i will be thinking about some things and end up dreaming of that during the night.
Other times my thoughts might not affect what i dream about guess it just depends.
Sometimes too if you are stressed about something that also can affect your dreaming without you doing much thinking i have been told.
no my dreams affect my thoughts, in other words, The dreams that I remember never leave my head, I can always remember them, and my dreams always repeat, but No my thoughts don't affect my dreams, tho I wish they did, for then I would be sure to have mroe pleasant ones.
If u If u are really thinking about something I can see that influencing your dreams. But I think most dreams come from our subconscious mind
thats what i believe I mean maybe if you really really are focused on it and it is all that consumes your mind throughout a length of time, then yeah i guess it could. Otherwise, no
i know if i have music on when i go to sleep it influences it, or sometimes if there's something on the t.v.
otherwise.. no. my dreams are mainly random, but i really can't remember them so much anymore. =/
that has happened to me before as well i think it is because though you may be in your sub conscious it still can here it somewhere...dreams may not always be a good thing to remember...
I would say that thoughts can control dreams. For myself IDK because i never remember what i dream
I just think that's really cool how a lot of people don't even dream at all. I always thought that everyone did but through putting up this forum I am finding out that alot of people don't and I just think that's niffy...Ok I am done here.

there is so much unknown about the dream state and so much that can influence it. I love learning about dream interpretation.
Could dreams be our minds way of dealing with trivial observations? I never got into the whole dream thing.. II just let dreams be dreams.
i believe a dream is a wish your heart makes so i dont think your thought so much as your heart control your dreams
It is your subconscious that controls your dreams. Therefore you could say it is your thoughts that control your dreams
My thoughts have a way to control my dreams .. not entirely but if a few days earlier in my mind I think... I havent seen *____* in a while, I will either see that person randomly or they will appear in my dream.
Yes your thoughts can control your dreams. I also believe that the past can have an affect on your dreams as well.
This happens to me quite regularly, especially if I read right before bed. I've had several nights where I'd be reading from the Harry Potter series, and I wind up having dreams about Harry and Ron fighting over me. o.O Yeah I know, it sounds very school-girlish. But hey, it's my subconscious. I don't have control over it! (which is why the subconscious is so incredible)
Wow I know a lot of girls that have dreams about Harry and Ron...seems to be a natural thing.
I know if I really want to I can change my dreams by thinking of something different
A lot of things effect my dreams. Most the time I don't remember them but when I nap is when I get the one's that stick out. I have recently moved into a duplex and twice now I have had a reoccuring dream about my house. The house has been distorted but the simularities are there. Once while my mom was in Oklahoma visiting family I had a dream she died in a car accident. Luckily I was just paranoid at that point. She was out and about with my aunt but I had my grandmother give her a message to call me right away when she got home. She was ok but I found it odd that I had that dream. I warned her to be careful on her trip. It was random but pertained to a loved one so I flipped... In summation surrounding effect dream land!
Your heart is an organ made predominantly of muscle and can not wish anything. Your thoughts are your dreams that's what dreams are subconscious thoughts. Your conscious thoughts can and do affect your subconscious thoughts. They can affect it even more than what Tepes alluded to. With practice and conscious thought before you go to bed you can learn to actually know when you are dreaming and take complete control of your dream as it is happening. It is also a false assumption that adults don't have nightmares. The difference with adults is they recognize them for what they are and usually just write it off as a bad dream and forget about it.
i highly believe my thoughts control my dreams, even the simplest thing like my ringtone for my phone, its no rain by blind melon, and if i get a phone call right before i go to sleep, the song plays constantly in my dreams.
I totally think that thoughts control our dreams, everytime i dream, it has what i was thinking about beofre i went to bed.
interesting thread because I have just the opposite my dreams control my thoughts which totally screws up my life
i was having a nightmare recantly and it was going badly and then i thought wait a momant this is my dream and things will happen the way i want to.so the baddie got fried with a sith force bolt and i woke up.
that's happened to me plenty of times, especially if I'm under some type of stress or anxiety. and sometimes dreams can help you find some types of answers, if I'm not mistaken
YOUR DREAMS ARE AFFECTED BY YOUR SUB-CONCIENCE. WHAT EVER YOU WHERE THINKING OF MOST OR HARDEST.
There are certain people who can invade your dreams. These beings are called dream walkers. They can enter and control your dreams. There are certain mesures you can take to prevent it but sometimes they don't work.
i wish i could just think my way out of a really bad dream. I can not though. I always seem to have dreams of me falling from great heights..
Anyone can think themselves out of a dream. The first trick is learning to recognize when you are in one.
I know i am dreaming .. I just have a bad time waking myself up or changing it from me falling to something good.
Of course. Scientifically, the reason we dream is so that our mind doesn't shut down...our minds are constantly working. So even if we don't remember our dreams, that doesn't mean that we didn't dream.
Many believe that we work out issues while we sleep. Being someone who believes in that idea, dreaming about the things that we think about makes sense. If we watch a scary movie, and it bothers us, maybe we have nightmares to desensitize us, so we won't live in fear. Maybe, if we're distressed by a current situation in our lives, and we think of it constantly, it plagues our mind less during the day if we work it out while we sleep.
i beleave thought do control our dreams
because dreams feeed off of events that happen
during our day or week.pluse dreams also feed off
our fears, wishes and experiances that happens in our lives.
i often dream about what im thinking of before i sleep
or even sometimes
if a show or song ect. is playing while i sleep
it effects my dreams also
Bigtime. Our dreams are a cumlative result of what happens in our daily lives and how we view the world. They are also of how we feel about it all, and have so much symbolism in them!
My Mom used to say that she could sort of program herself to dream of certain things. I sometimes dream of things that I thought about or talked about, or saw right before bed......or that day.
Sometimes yes. Thoughts control og your dreams. If you are thinking something a lot before you lay down and sleep you may see it in your dreams
I think they can sometimes but not all the time becouse I have went to sleep was thinking of going to see my grandma the next day and dreamed of her walking off with a dead grand old opra star.(almost 1 year later she died) and i also dreamed of my uncle's furnial down to the last detail almost 1year befor he died and i was not thinking of him)
I think your thoughts do control what you dream and who you dream of.
I believe they do, even what you listen to or watch at night can effect your dreams.
I was having nightmares and i didn't notice for awhile that when i listen to certain music it effected what i dreamt about.
If i listen to anything besides Japanese music with out words i have nightmares and if i don't listen to anything at all i have them.
If im watching tv while im sleeping i dream about whats on
If I think about something for to long befor i go to sleep then i dream about it
So yes all these things can effect what you dream about!!
wow sorry for all the typo's didn't realize there were that many Sorry!!
i have heard that if you think about something hard enough you will dream of it
I think some thoughts influence dreams, once I was reading a book with vampires in the story line and that night I dreamt about vampires.
AngelsMort
stress is a good cause of dreams it can influence your sub concious
i beleive thining about thing before sleep
influences dreams
i dream about stuff i tihnk about before bed all the time
My dreams almost always have something to do with my thoughts. It's not just what I think about before I fall asleep; my thoughts get mixed up and twisted and jumbled up when I sleep, so my dreams usually turn out to be very weird.
ive had experiences where i heard soemthing when asleep and then began to dream about it or dream about something that was talked about earlier that day,so i do believe dreams can be efected by ones thoughts.
chyeahh.
There's been a few occasions in which i think about something before sleeping and it rocks up in my dream.
quite annoying at times really.
Well yeah, where do you think dreams come from? They come from inside your mind, the same place as your thoughts!! No matter how unusual or boring your dreams, everything in them has come from your own brain. Really :s
It's funny because I was just telling my daughter about how I made myself have a dream about spiders...LoL
I used to have a pink-toed tarantula that we kept in a tank on my dresser in my room. There was one night that I was laying in bed trying to go to sleep and I noticed that the cover was elevated just a little bit on one corner. I remember thinking that I should get up and fix it (being paranoid that she would get out)
And guess what? I had a dream that she got out and bit me...haha
totally!
and i dream about spiders usually when i see one and freak out about it. it gets stuck in my brain and then becomes part of my dreams
Stress does make dreams come out that is for sure.. I mean omg i had more dreams when i am stressed then anything. I still can not control my dreams.
I know exactly what your talking about. I purposely think of certain issues before bed and let my mind clarify them during my dreams. If that makes sence.
That happens to me every night...on stressful nights it keeps me from sleeping well because a bunch of diffeent thoughts are causing different dreams and its too much and i cant relax which is why i normally try to just lay there and think of one person or one thing so i can relax and get a decent nights rest
Night terrors, I have had night terrors, they make nightmares adventures in comparison.
The night terror is an intense experience that hits in a lucid manner, a person can "awake" during a night terror without being able to themselves out of the experience.
I have found that to interact with ones dreams a little more actively, Through-out the day actively observe your hand, and project how you visualize your hand in your dreams, when you dream this 'conscious" data, of your hand will put you in perspective in your dreams.
Usually the last thing you're thinking or seeing before you sleep is what you end up dreaming about.
I have had some of the most random dreams you could ever think of, usually when I'm not particularly stressed about anything.
When I am stressed about a person or situation I will dream about it. For instance, I went through a nasty break up not that long ago and I dream about the guy all the time, regardless of the fact I go the whole day pushing him from my mind. I don't know if it's my pent thoughts finding an outlet (probably), or someting else. The universe trying to say something or whatever.
SO, yes, your dreams CAN be affected by your thoughts, I wouldn't say all the time though. Depends on the situation.
sure... your thoughts can affect your dreams.. without a doubt...im not saying it does all the time, because ive tried to go to bed thinking of something and to see what id dream about with it. and it just didnt happen but alot of the time u dream whats in ur sub mind
keep thinking about what you want to dream about. when you start losing consciousness, your mind tends to wander. keep it focused, but stay relaxed enough to allow sleep to take you. then you will probably have a much better time dreaming about what you want.
That doesn't really work for me Tepes. Then again, my mind always wanders no matter how hard I try to keep it in line!
i think they do cause i to have been thinkin about stuff or events just before i go to sleep or during the day and i seeme to deam about them at night while i sleep
I believe that your thoughts can affect your dreams. I have had experiences where I'm thinking about someone a lot, and then I dream about them. You can control your dreams, sometimes, by thinking about things strongly before going to sleep.
i think ur thoughts definitly affect ur dreams, because say if ur worried about something u will try and work it out in ur subconsious. Or if u were thinking about someone right when ur going to sleep, chances are u will dream about them in the same line of thinking.
