Hey everybody. This is my first attemp at even posting something on the forum, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to start one and see how it goes.
Now I've been getting into the world of vampires slowly since the age of 13. Thats when I first say Interview With A Vampire. I was intregued in it slightly, and have become a believer that vampires do exist today in our modern world. We all know the common myths and what not, and I've seen a couple peoples takes on it, but I wanted to know how many people here TRUELY believe in vampires and didn't just stumble upon this site because it had that nifty chat feature.
I'll start off on why I believe to get the ball rolling.
Although many screen writers and novelists have made millions even billions of dollars by enthrawling their entertained with the horror that vampires bring, I find it more believeable than the U.S. successfully landing on the moon in the 60's. I feel this way because of the people of recent past, those like Jeffry Dohmer, who may have been a canibal and not a vampire, but still went after humans to feast upon them. Now, I'm not saying that this is whats true, this is just my beliefs, but have you ever noticed people who truely have fangs? Not implants or stic-ons that are so fashionable thes days, but actual fangs. I myself was graced with them, and I believe that it is because of vampire heritage. My sisters both have them, as does my mother. I am not claiming to be one, I have no functioning fangs as vimpires would have, hollowed out fangs that could such the blood from a persons body into glands that can break down blood and use it for energy.
What other thoughts are there on this?
actualy vampires do exsist but they are not imortal like they are ment ot be there is a virus called vampire and if you get it you hav to drink blood or uyou die. no they mostlikly dont hav the fangs but some people do get fangs but that is very unlilky
I've never heard of the actual virus called 'vampire' but I know what you mean. Guess I'm one of the exceptions cause I've got the fangs.
*mouth open,.....see they're soooo cute.
*giggle
ummmm am I supposed to die?
Actually what would be an interesting topic is the actual cause of vampirism, or even the symptoms of it. We all know about the Renfield syndrome, the Sugar Virus, and the V Chromisome. Does anyone else have theories?
What I believe I will be posting in my journal.
Just a note: typically the fangs are not hollowed out like straws for sucking blood ... seems odd to think of them as such. The fangs are to break the skin to get at the lovely crimson numminess.
Excellent thread, by the by.
You have a point, my dear Loki... if you notice some people nowadays, their canine teeth are very prominent...trust me, i've noticed enough of them at my highschool...people that look as if they are wearing those vampire caps that are so popular in recent times, yet they are not...it is as if a dormant gene, vampiric or not, is suddenly resurfacing within humans...slowly changing the human race...
I have noticed people with the fangs. I myself have some cute lil ones *smiles* My nickname from my mom was fangie.. cute isnt it hehe. I think there are vampires. and I know there are mental vampires.. I have encounted a few.. oui. I am one sometimes. But I know the strain so I try to controll myself
Wow, I learned something new. I don't remember exactly where I heard the myth about the fangs being like straws, but it has always been a very promonantaspect that has stuck with me since I've heard it.
Well over here (for oooohhh ONLY £500) dentists's will
a)Sharpen your canines
b)Polish all your teehth and bleach them
C)Carve/Engrave "rivulets into your canines as well (makes the blood easier to drink apparently)
I really really really want £500 now :-)
I don't know quite where i stand on the whole vampire thing, it's damn interesting. But i'm a firm believer in "i'm not believing till i'm seeing" and thus far i've not been given evidence that tells me they do/don't exist.
As for blood. i suck my own, if i bleed it's the first thing i do. i remember not the taste. i have not tasted it in a while. But lately i've developed a bit of a lust to taste my own to see if i like it. But I'm not gonna cut myself just to do that.
Not all vampires are blood drinkers, and the myth is only that-a myth. I myself am an energy vampire, and sometimes drink blood. I will not die without the blood, just enjoy it sometimes. I have no fangs, but don't really need them. I think you are right, and there are more vamps coming to the surface as they find they can get away with being in public.
I dont know if I am a believer in immortal vampires but I do believe that there is much more of this intergrated into modern society than what people see (or like to believe!)
I like what LadyLillian has to say on this ;-) personally I do get a bit of bloodlust and I sometimes I drink my own, and I enjoy biting willing participants for fun *giggles* and Im desperately interested in this field, but im just not where I stand on the myths. x x
I think two causes of vampirism, in the classic sense, are prevelant in modern literature and media. 1) The satanic curse(Dracula) or embodiment of some sort of dark entity such as a demon(a la Buffy). 2) As a disease or bloodborne pathogen(Blade). I guess which you prefer as the "true" cause, lies in what your beliefe structure is.
Personally, I like the classic vampire mythology. The idea that a mortal becomes estranged with God or just flat out defies the Lord to such an extent that he/she is cursed with all of the afflictions and abilities that are vampirism. To a true-believing monotheist, this is horrifying. A being that is so on the outs with THE one and only GOD that religious symbols can harm or kill it. A being that is so evil a mortal's faith alone can turn it. This is creepy, creepy stuff. If there is a God, and if the true vampire is Satan's minion, then it is a terribly thing indeed.
Vampirism as a medical/physiological affliction is interesting, but not nearly as malevolent. It allows us, as the observer, to believe that there can be "good" vampires. "Awww...the poor guy. He's really great and sexy...too bad he's got to drink my blood to live."
Take Angel, or any of the anti-hero vampires in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Could you honestly LIKE Angel as a protagonist if he was literally damned by God? I know the Buffy mythology centers around vampires as half-demons, but it relates to the vampire-as-disease concept quite well when said half-demon can regain his soul (rather easily, and over and over again) and be a warm-fuzzy good guy.
On a side note, I am of the opinion the Angel, as Angelis, is one of the most evil vampiric characters every written. David Boreanas (???) played that part SO much better than the poofy Angel character.
I digress, as usual and have lost my train of thought. Sorry...
I am terribly sorry about all the dambed typos in that last post. I just got going and didn't spell check it. I suck.
It's alright Jason, we all make mistakes, and on a tangent like that, who could blame you for something as small as spell-check to slip your mind (In all seriousness) The traditional vampire versus the "Blade-esque" vampire. In al their aspects they are both portraied in a similar fasion. Both are evil, harmed by god and his affiliations and symbols. But I have a more firm belief on Anne Rice's versio, where sun and intense fire are the main downfalls of a vampire. It seems to me that if they are present (and I strongly elive they do) they wouldn't have the traditional weeknesses of vampires. I believe they would have mutated, as cells in the body do, to create a more stable vampire, or maybe even have caused them to seporate them and give each one his own set strengths and weeknesses.
