I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

For those reading, have you ever come across someone with an ability like this? This is directed towards those of a 'witch' belief.

If so, what could they do exactly with it?

What would you do if you came across someone with the Evil Eye? Run away or stay or hope they don't turn it on you?

Gina is of Italian descent and was raised Roman Catholic. Her Grandmother, who was born and raised in the Calabri area of Southern Italy. Her Grandmother definitly believed in the power of "The Evil Eye". She would "give" the "Evil Eye" to those who crossed her. It involved a hand sign and the gutteral utterance of a certain phrase, in either Italian or Latin...Gina could never understand what was being said.

She also had a ritual to remove "The Evil Eye" if it had been imposed on you and a technique to detect if you had been cursed by the "Evil Eye". The detection technique involved floating a drop of olive oil on the surface of a bowl of water. The shape and dispersion level of the oil determined whether or not you had been cursed. I don't know what the ritual to remove "The Evil Eye" involved.

I don't really believe in 'the evil eye' but to be on the safe side, I wear my Hand of Fatima necklace a lot; it is suppose to ward off the evil eye, among other things.

I have had a few friends tell me what they though. They said that the person is either being used by a demon that makes it bto where they have the evil eye.

Or that they use to have a demon in them for a long time, and when they got it out the demon left part of its powers allowing the person to have a evil eye.

That is what I have heard.

Has anyone ever witnessed this/been a target of this? To me, this smacks a lot like a lucky rabbits foot. Old wives tales and superstition. I am ready to be proven wrong however.

The evil Eye Commonly Subscribed to Gypsies, Gypsies a very ingrained people to get the attention of Gypsies is a way to get the evil eye. The gypsies are best left undisturbed, their network can be used to create any number of desired effects to those that they "curse".

iám Italian also and my gran was forever saying moloki (evil eye) to me as my eyes change colour.....now my brothers eyes change from brown to hazel, mine brown to black, personaly i think it has something to do with the sun.

No I have never met anyone with this ability. In answer to your question what would I do if I encountered such a person with this ability I would stay as far away from them as possible and stay out of their radar. You never know when you might offend someone lol and I seem to do that often :)

The Evil Eye is also referred in Latin as "Oculus Sinistra," the left eye or sinister eye. Oculus Dextra is the right eye. For those of you with prescription eyewear or contacts your prescriptions are OD & OS, OU means both eyes.

I did not come across such eye peepal only in parapsychic livingphysical peepal i been through hypnotist who can do touch the person distant by even watching the photo...

but i have seen hypnotist did not use photo he did perform alive from 20-25 feet away from the target. and he knew to bring the target to normal position after he deonstrated his art... thisis not fake but is truth I was watching that show alive.

I have never met anyone with this ability and I highly doubt I ever will. If such a thing were to occur, honestly, I think I'd realize it a second too late and be turned to stone or what have you before I could get away, lol. Otherwise, yeah, I'd probably run...

The more I think on it, if there was truly power of 'the evil eye', a lot of people would be cursed!
Lots of people would cast that eye at people due to hatred, jealousy, greed...it would be a world-wide phenomenon - not exclusive at all.

Though a person can be struck by such things. it is because of the pesstimistic nature, those that place "curses". Know this factor, that any streak of unfortunate events (even if they are predated by non phenomenal routine) will recollect the "curse", in some cases an associate of the "cursing" party will interact indirectly to create an appearance of failing "luck". I always apologize to any Gypsy/Italian I may offend, for this very reason.

In Voodoo it is common for a "client" to be told they have been under the influence of an evil eye. The charm is then sold at a price, or gifted in exchange for a favor performed.

i think for those who do believe in the evil eye and the ones who practice if of course can have some kind of negative effect of bad luck if you will on them,mind over matter is how i see it but sometimes the matter can be quite convincing

Just because something is not accepted as super natural, or mystical, there can be an acceptance of something as behaviorally significant, and even be accepted as being a catylest for Pathological Effects, Complexes, and psycisis are potential along with PTST for those that are stalked by "curse" networks. (people that actually indirectly sabatoage the "cursed" person social life. Do I fear the evil eye? No I don't. Do I have a understanding of how it works? Enough that I know it is not to be scoffed at, and to know that the more "mystic" people make it the more effective it can be.

Smile at a person, and they will prepare for a pleasant conversation. Then there is also the weary eye, the one that you give your friend in a bar when a stranger comes on like they have known you for years. Like poker these are micro tells. Those that practice under the aspects of curses, know too well the percentage of people that are likely to self fulfill the "curse of the evil eye" as well as they know the likelihood that that person will pay to have the curse lifted. As I stated before the behavior dictated by latent belief, only serves to magnify the potential for the "evil eye". We as humans are rather tempted to place the source of our whoas, on any out side concept, rather then internalize the source of our "misfortune" to consequence.

Well, most superstitions stem from people either not knowing about something or from their own fear of the unknown. I think, the "Evil Eye" is just a way to scare people. You meet a person that doesn't exactly fit what most of society would consider the "norm"... the person is normally either anit-social or just plain mean and reserved..... you piss this person off and he/she gives you the "Evil Eye"..... You know nothing about this person, you don't know what he/she will do so then you become afraid. You start looking over your shoulder like you're being followed, you jump at shadows, you get all twitchy... and you make your bad luck happen yourself. You get paranoid and then suddenly, the little things that never mattered before get noticed more often and you start to harp on them and give them more meaning and thought than you should....

It's kind of funny to watch actually. lol... Try being the person GIVING the "Evil Eye". It's loads of fun when you want to torment somebody.

I've heard of the evil eye but I don't necessarily believe that someone can give you the evil eye. I did run into some gypsies while I was in London on business and if I had ever come close to be given the evil eye it would have been during that chance meeting.

Sure, people have this ability. But it only works if a) they catch your attention. and b) you believe that they are putting it on you.

They could make you cut your own finger off, seemingly by accident, or get really gory 'Omen' type death...terrible accidents with trains and the like, or they can just make you itch a bit.

I doubt they can turn you into a monkey or anything like that though.

What would I do?

Well, assuming that I'd be able to work out beforehand that they had an 'evil eye' (maybe they've got a twitch or something), then I'd probably be ok if I didn't piss them off, y'know?

The evil eye also came from the ancient teachings of the Kabbalah. The Kabbalah is a set of Jewish magical manuscripts used for understanding the knowledge of magical secrets by using magical talisman squares and codes, and it was the key to magick. These magical squares were also used in the Abramelin ritual. The symbol for the evil eye is used in free masonry, it's a triangle with the eye inside, which is depicted on top of the pyramid.

I feel that some people have the "evil eye". Their look instills fear in the person who witnesses it and it makes them feel weak and powerless.

This thread makes me rethink an event that happened in my life.

A couple of years ago I had an interesting complication in my life. I had a friend who often went into deep, dark mood swings; a friend who while in these mood swings tended to be teh epicenter of a sinister vortex that you really wanted to be nowhere near, even though he tended to be reclusive during these times.

I have another friend, who I met while on a Psychic Fair circuit, that made all manner of crystal amulets for sale at her table that were not only beautiful but also quite effective. We became very close over the following year and on other circuits, so we talked on all manner of things during slow periods.

At times she would talk about her ex, particularilly if we were on a subject of dark magic. Turns out, of course, that the two friends were each others ex's, and it gave a whole new perspective to each of them, as both of them had told me pretty "interesting" things about the other.

She said she'd meet me at a pub that I regularily go to on thursday nights, because she had a protection amulet to give me (She had given me a few amulets for various purposes already). I suspect that she arranged a confrontation of sorts; that she had figured that I knew her ex, (I may have even used his name specifically.)

As soon as she gave it to me I fealt that it was to protect me from a specific threat that I was immediately under, that it was pertanant to that day, and I found out rather quickly when "lord gloomy" came in; well actually, he wasn't gloomy when he came in... but you could see a lightning and thunder over his head (like a comic book) after he saw me talking to his ex (she didn't seam surprised). He avoided both of us... and I was somewhat worried that he was going to cast a pretty malicious spell my way.

That night when I got home (safely) I walked in the house and wandered to teh bathroom to remove my other amulets so they wouldn't interfere, especially while he was surging with anger and would most liklely try something at this time.

I had always considered what happened next to be a spell, but it is altogether likely that this had been an evil eye effect.

I walked back into my kitchen to the back door to hang up my jacket and just as I was passing under the kitchen light (one of those 1950's behemoths that way at least 10 pounds) it fell, and I just barely managed to avoid getting hit... it split in two solid pieces when it hit the floor, the glass was probably 1/2 inch thick.

I am convinced that I'd have been killed by this thing, that the amulet saved me, and that my dark friend was the source of the falling fixture.

As I consider this thread about the evil eye, I am concidering that the evil eye is a much better explanation than a spell, it has a neatness to my friends character (because I never wholely believed he'd really cast a spell against me, but it seamed to be the only explanation.) The fact that he has this dark hidden Italian heritage just seams to tie things up into a neat little ball, so perhaps next time I see him, I will bring up the incident again and ask him about evil eye... maybe he will admit to evil eye, like he never admited to spellcasting ...LOL.

There are still nomadic tribes in the Middle East and North Africa that have a deep fear of not only the "Evil Eye" but also the "Evil Mouth." Among these bedouins the males of the tribes are the ones who cover thier faces inorder to prevent and gaurd against "cursings." They also decorate thier traditional sword hilts with images of the "Evil Eye" for protection aswell.

I personally have the experience of the evil eye. It's kind of hard to shake sometimes. I got it from my own brother. (not too fond of me) Anyway it wasn't until I was gifted a reiki bag that it truly was wiped out.

I doubt he realizes what he did. I come from an italian family and yes we are very superstitous. I believe still in the old beliefs. If I ever noticed someone giving me the evil eye I would automatically be repelled and feel the need to take up my reiki bag.

Coming from Italian desent, my granfather in his younger years believed in this superstition and when as we grew up he always worned us of this.

Cultural evils of myth and superstition played more out in older countries than we percieve today.

To the main title, I believe there is no such thing as a evil person, good person, its all on the eye of the beholder and the psychological aspect of each individual development in life, i think; "murderers", "psychopaths", "rapist", "saints", "popes", and all the descriptive connotations for our human behaviors come from things in each and everyone life as growing, the reason of one thing is the consequence of something in earlier life, all the elements that make us on a present days are reflection of our raising and carriage during our developmental course of life. People kill, steal, rape or w.e is because somehow in their mind its fine that way due to ocurrence of past experience. To say someone is good and bad is to judge without knowing the motives, yes someone might kill for no reason, but by some reason he decided to kill, may it be, going crazy, delusional, sexual deviancy or w.e ther eis always a why and what in the time, that is never there when they are asked, and respond; "i dont know why i did it"...Its all in the development i say.

OniKumo is correct; many of the tribes of North Africa - and those Muslim ones below the Sahara - also tattoo protective designs near their mouths and eyes to ward off the evil mouth and the evil eye.
