Why is it, when your minding your own business and heading out on the town and people come up to you and ask if your a vampyre and questions of the like,
when your just a goth and your all gothed up for an evening out.

I hate that, but then again,
i like it to tease and torment these humans. giggles >:D

Because most "normal" people view "Vampire's" and "Goth's" as being on in the same .. as well as some "punk's'' ... because they don't understand the differences or similarities they share ... I once sent a whole hour during a job interview I went on explaingin the differences between the three ... they asked about how I dressed ... so I had to answer ... believe me their ideas and understanding changed drastically then LOL

i think its a given; to be expected. come'on, all Gothed'up. -its against the norm/society, besides, sometimes ppl like myself almost search for the 'not-so-norms' in life.

and well hollywood has a lot to answer for in why they always assume you are trying to look like a vamp....

I don't like being stared at when I walk downt the street gothed up. I actually yelled at a woman for not teaching her kids manners when they stared at me. But I do like hissing at townies who stare at me to scare them. BUt they best thing to do to a group of townies is get a video camera point it at them and watch them run!

I agree with Daermon.. If you choose to dress differently, then you should come to expect people will look at you. If you saw a big sign saying "READ ME" you would probably read it... Its the same with dressing differently, its like carrying a sign saying "look at me". After all we are the minority!

Not all goths are vampires and not all vampires are goths. I'm glad people here understand that. I hate the way the world judges you for how you dress. I wear black because I love the colour not because I'm trying to follow a fashion. (And, as I type this, I can see a fellow vampire dancing around the garden dressed in pink and white.)

Its a bit of given unfortunately you know ppl see something try and work it out in their head give up and use the mish mash of info in their of what you look like and add it to similarities I.E Black Clothes, pale(ish) complexion=Goth/Vampire/Punk
maybe its good that they ask instead of just hurling misguided abuse at you.

I remember once though (and this to date always confuse's ppl) I was sitting on a bus ready to go home and I was wearing an open Chill's hoddy, Black Baggies and my bag (which has patche's and badges all over it) and a rather large Scally sat in front of me (natural enemies of the british goth :) turned aroundand said to me "you a Goth?" I thought about it and I love lees than Jake, Blink 182 e.t.c and my dress sense can be rather bright/neutral most of the time so I said "no".
He then asked "you a Punk?" again I said no because I like Rammstein, Cradle Of Filth and Type-0.
So after all these questions he looks at me puzzled and asks "So what are you?" I simply sed
"I am me"
He turned away and that was that I think ppl maybe just feel better putting you in a category so that can act accordingly around you be that nice or in my general (and probably yours)not so nice.

true Daremon I do have to agreee with the fact that the tv and movies has warped the appeal of what vampyres are like but af for goths even tho there are a wide vareity of goths out there i still like to go up to these normals/ mundanes and give them an edumication (spelling purposely done) about what the diffeerence of what a goth and a vamp is.

You dont have to be dressed in blk to be a goth.... hey i am a goth but i m now as casual as you can get yet when it comes to the clothes and i dont wear blk as much as i used to, so i guess you could call it a "goth on nites out" cuz i dont really dress up unless i have a place to go to, and since the club I used to call home (funny its called that in the dictonary) Sanctuary = home.
That was the only place i could go to dress the way i like with out prejedoism of how i looked.
that club is no more and i do miss it, and even tho there are only 2 other clubs to go to of the like, i dont go tho them cuz even my own kind has become snobby, stuck-up and pretentous that it makes me ill.

I am not bitchen about this, I'm just tired of seeing ignorant people who dont have the courage to ask what about it is about me and why i dress like that, but to a sad dismay, people only want to precieve what they see and can get their little hands on to tear it down and anilized all to hell and they still come up with the wrong things in the end....normies are soo cute yet stupid at the same time.

actually we are not the minority due to our growing rate we are becoming the majority of our own grouping/culture..

it is not uncomon to me that people think that i am a satanist, but that is their ignorance...But no one tought that i am a vampire... It is just thet people are afraid of things they do not knw, and they know so little so they have alot to be afraid of...

i have to agree, that ppl who wear black are dipicted at goth/punk/vampyre and yet maybe they just like the tone
(blk is not a colour its a tone/shade of all colours of the darken side, like white is the same but on the lighter side.)
and everyopne is not a goth/punk/vampyre just for liking black. hell i've seen normies wear it and they dont get bothered my it, (then again they dont wear the makeup the same.)
i wish that someone would get them to understand on a global scale about our kinds and make them understand.

Dami.. just love your posts btw... I wear black slacks and a black shirt underneath my rit "gunk". Before I get completely ready, with just the shirt and slacks, I will normally stop and get cigs or something to drink,,etc before I prepare for the rit.. even then they tend to avoid me in the stores.. wait on me very quickly so I will leave. lol.what I like to do is stand there until they look me in the eyes.. lol kinda smartazz, but you know.. look at me for who I am..not what you think I am.. they are becoming the freaks...

Here's my thing. People are stupid. Shit happens. If you don't know... then ask for crying out loud!! It's not like I'll get offended. (Example) I had a little kid ask about my eyebrow ring yesterday. To my surprise he didn't go eeww that's gross or anything like that. I answered his question, he walked away. I find it funny that these normal people shun out people like us due to the lack of knowledge, understanding and open-mindedness, to try to accept that us as being socially different and to them we are the outcasts....

I find it very unsettling that there are still ppl around the world that still view us as evil even tho we are just different and like ti that way. Mind you i am not complaining about someone calling or claiming that i am/being a vampyre.

There are days where i love the challenges of the normies where i can test them and see how far i can push their buttons cuz they tend to push mine with their ignorance towards me on how i dress and look.

OH God and this will date me LOL ... but back in the 70's and 80's when long haired Metal and hard rock was the "title" anyone who wore black was dubbed a 'Headbanger', or 'Stoner/druggie', 'burnout' ... you name it .. so over the years the color has not changed much, the styles some .. but regardless ... if you wear black be prepared to be dubbed something ... it's nothing new 10 years from now who know's what the stereo typical name will be for people who wear black clothing ... and who will be sitting there saying the same things as we say now ... it's evolution ... it's normal ... instead of getting upset or angry if someone stares at you ... put your head up and wear your color's (whatever they maybe) proudly, and if someone asks ... simply say "Dub me what you will it doesn't bother me, because I know who I am." >;^}

people just have a natural tendency to lump things under a certian label. its easier for them to hand you a label then to ACTUALLY try and see past the outfit. i don't dress out of the ordinary but when i do i get criticized but i expect it and deal with it. its not my fault other people are too ignorant to see me for the person i am.

Goth.. Vampyres.. are among the billions of labels everyone uses every moment of thier life. It happens to be that the perception of thetwo are similar and easily confused to a mass population.
(IE: Truck driver and Tow truck driver.. the images that those labels bring up are similar, but I bet if we went and asked 10 of each, they could point out lots of differences.)

I dont think there will ever be a way around the labels. In order to be able to communicate there has to be common ground and an understanding of subjects, labels are given from those commonalities. Most we can do is hope to educate them on the stupidity that goes along with some of those labels.

I decided to put myself all classification. I will no longer call my self goth punk or what ever title people want to bestow upon me. i am myself and if one can't accept that oh well. i am tired of the whole classification thing. the more the years past the more segrated this world becomes. i mean its not even race anymore. now its race sex subculture groups. and sooner or later were just going to all be alone if we keep doing that mess. so i say i am myself and i am just fine with being ousted from every group in the world. for i don't want part of any. until someone can just typecast me as plain human i say its pointless to judge me by my clothing etc...

ya i used to get comments like that from a lot of people, i remeber when i dyded my hair black (and i have very pale skin, but its not my fault i cant tan i burn easy and plus i think pale skin is beautiful lol) anyway this kid came up to me and asked if i was goth... and i was like umm no are u gay? , and the kid was like no why would u think im gay and i was like well u have a lisp most gays have a lisp and hes all thats not true and all i said was exactly....it just confused him haha

A couple things... First, I saw how all of you were throwing about the word 'normal' a lot and just wanted to point out that 'normal' is a theoretical construct... It is like a meter or absolute zero... You just measure things by or with it but nothing can ever completely stop moving (for the absolute zero example)... Similarly, nothing can ever be normal... This is the point... People fear this fact... That they aren't normal but they wish they could be or... Some do the opposite... They envy your ability to be able to express yourselves the way you want to without fear of the repercutions you know this will cause... Which leads to my last point... If you are dressing the way you do... In some deep recess this is because you are trying to be different no? Do you want to be mushed into the 'norm' that everyone seems to talk about? I sure as fucking well don't... I don't wear makeup myself nor do I dress all in black but I wear a lot of black and huge pants... Like the buttom of them's circumference is 32 inches plus... And a lot of people say it is like a skirt or make comments like 'why do you wear that?' I say cause I want to... And if they say it's wierd I say... 'And?' This is what I always find odd... that people who like to label themselves as 'goths' or 'moshers' or 'skaters' (rather than 'human beings') and then complain about discrimination... but then you call everyone else 'normies, like everyone who isn't 'goth' are all the same? Thats discrimination too... your just feeding the problem.

I have a part-time job in an off-licsence, and the other day two men came in, and started asking "whats goth?" and "What do you believe in?"

I tried to explain that people are people, and we all go about living in different ways... whoever you are, someone will be totally the opposite to you, and some of those different people won't like it, and will discriminate against you. This happens to EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE... be mature enough not to do it back.

Maybe if 'people like us' stopped making such an issue out of it, then 'people like them' would realise that were all breathe the same air.

The places in which i dwell it is not something you get to discuss with people..they do not ask they merely shout words of Goth, Freak & for some peculiar reason Grunger which has often baffled moi...I did get asked once by some ickle child why i had red hair (which i did at that point)..my reply being "well when you drink the blood of mortals such as yourself your hair changes colour.."...needless to say he ran away...it was amusing though..

I dont claim to be goth nor do I claim to be a vampire, but I've noticed whenever I or any of my friends go out the first thing anyone thinks is vampire or satanist... Its just how people think, they group things... They look at the picture and not the details... (Dont mind me I'm rambling..)

No Vincent... I do actually read the posts (as logn as they are not huge copy and pastes) but yes I have notcied that others dont read eachothers, and thats why threads never last very long, and we dont get many decent discussions, as nobody discusses with eachother, they just wait for their turn to speak.

I think it is because the movies have associated goths and vampyres to be the same. And hollywood has made people think that all of us are evil. Yes, some of us may be evil *smirks evily* but not all of us are. I don't mind the looks.

After a full night of dancing and drinking at the club with friends, we hit the Ihop in our neighborhood. Someone at another table starts up. "Hey look at them funny lookin' people. Are ya'll dead?"

Naturally someone in our group takes offence and polietly tells the redneck to "shut the hell up." LOL

As probablly said, goth, punk, vampiric, what ever you may be.. you are not what most people in society would call, "normal" therefore, they will not treat or act normal around you. i personally like it because than people will leave me alone..

after years of dealing with being called a vampire ive come to smile everytime i hear it. "Normal" people are quick to shun and fear that which is different. "Different" to them anyway. To me, they are the different ones, usually becuase they are all hiding and refuse to let their true selves out because "society" says they are freaks. When I go out and get asked if I am dead, I smile evily at them and say "Yes I am, thank you very much." They leave me alone then. Some I have known have come to like and respect the goth/vampire/dark (whatever you call it) side of me. They realize we are not all that different. Some people have even complimented my friends and I when we are out. I have no time for those who look down their noses at me. I just stare as I walk by. Do not worry about what everyone thinks. Just ignore them and be yourself. I do.
