In what sense do you mean? The origin of the legend has been done to death, and UpirLikhyj can tell you all you need to know about that.

If you mean the origin of psychic/sanguinarians, that's already been done a number of times, generally ending up with Bathory, Vlad Tepes, the Nephilim, Cain, Judas, and Lilith being the only mentioned names. Forum search will give you quite a large number of threads that discuss the matter.

Someone picked up a pen or quil or brush or type writer a few years back ...

Suddenly thought, "I want to write about somethin' that sucks people's blood."

Bad-a-bing, bad-a-boom, vampire created.

Fairy tales to keep there kids in bed at night and not sneaking through the window to friends and lovers.

a tale of someone seeing someone at night than vanish and a bat flies by.

Many tales could derive from this.

"they exist in some form some way. otherwise there wouldn't be so many stories from so many places."

So you believe there must also have been a worldwide flood, just because so many different cultures have stories of them? What about creation myths? Do you believe that the human race was created in current form from some bizarre supernatural entity just because almost every civilization in history had a story about it? What about dragons, trolls, ogres, and dwarfs?

Is fiction a recent concept? Were ancient cultures unable to come up with stories that didn't have any basis in reality? People have always made up stories. Whether it be for entertainment, to teach morals to children, etc. Just because independent ideas have similar features does not mean they came from the same source. Compare enough fictional storybooks and you'll start to find a lot of parallels.

Not true. There are stories of the boogy man in all societies. Does that make him true? Some monster living under the bed?

"....i am studying cain...he was the first"

And may I ask what proof you have of this?

There are a few reference of cain, but most have been dubed fiction, as much as anything, the book of nod comes to mind.

Tales to scare kids or tales of yarn that like old ship captains spoke of lore, to ward poeple of from certain destinations.

Big problem I have with Enoch is all the original vampires have penises. But then, I hate blaming Lilith for spawning vamps cause of her wanton consorting with demons.

Mostly I think vampires come out of human fears and even our hopes. They embody our fear of death and our fear of God. They bring up questions re. immortality. They call into question values, ethics, even love of humanity, and in fiction they can represent our basest desires and even our ability to postpone gratification.

My guess is that where ever you find the origins of gods angels demons devils and all the things between thats where you will find the origin of the Vampire.
personally, I think they are quite possibly the descendants of angels, and not necessarily the fallen ones, but angels of transition, as vampires are stuck in the between of life and death and can not really ever get out.
Thats just my skewed take on it though lol

Well, having been brought up in times of science... I would tend to believe the origin of the vampire was based on both fear and ignorance; one fuelling the other into offspring folklore and the like.

I think they are based off things that really happened in history. It is just like people to have to judge and put and name to everything. It is my belief that this is how Vampires originated. Giving a name/reason to the why did so and so do this or that?.

This my theory on Origin of Vampires, it's not very fool proof though.

First let me discuss my alternate and parallel universe theory. Parallel universes, is a universe that has a basic change in genetic or a specific difference in form from any other universe. For example works of literature that could be true under my Parallel universe theory, His Dark Materials Series, Narnian Chronicles, Full Metal Alchemist, etc… Alternate Universes, are off shoots of our own and other universes. These fall under chance and luck situations. An example of this, if someone is rolling a 6 sided die, the chance that it will come up 6 is 1/6, and then there will be 6 different alternate universes. Examples of this theory are Back to the Future I, II, and III. Same thing goes for the other parallel universes.
Now, if you sleep walk or talk during your sleep at all, there is a small chance one of your alternate universe’s mind is controlling your body for a short while, and you controlling its mind for a little bit as well.
Now for the vampire theory, a parallel universe, which is populated by a creature similar to the vampire, jumps to our universe (this jump can be through anything like the doors of His Dark Materials Series, Narnian Chronicles, Full Metal Alchemist, etc…) This creature lands just before the Mesopotamia, region forms, there he steals into the night, taking blood from individuals, after he mates with some of the humans they have children, the children adapt, and they kill him. When the barbarians come and destroy Mesopotamia, they then flee into hiding, waiting for other civilizations to arrive.
Egyptian, Indian, Grecian, and other civilizations, form their own myths about the vampire, them taking on their own forms through evolution. Evolution of a vampire: Vampire children come in two ways, either by mating creating a new generation of vampires, or the biting, draining of blood, and then giving a person the vampire blood. The mating creates a more powerful race of vampires, while the biting, draining, and giving blood, and creates a vampire slightly weaker than original vampire. This evolution spawns new and better vampires each generation.

from what i have read vlad dracul was the prince of welsh and the prince of transylvania. he had a massive cassle and everyone that fucked with him he would impale them on a stake.. hence the name vlad the impaler.. so at night all around his castle he had this bodies and they would sway in the wind a little and cast shadows on the castle, so people started to make rumors that there were vampires because they thought those shadows were alive. back in those times they thought if u ate the heart of ur enemies you would get their inner strength so he was seen eating a heart, and with all of these things put together, the origin of vampires was started.

Well Vlad the Dracule was the best administrator and policy maker who used to just the cases his own way in hte favor of his region and the peepal of the region thats why even farmers and villagers used to sing folklure in which he wass the center point... He successfully saved his region from the threshhold of the wars.

I think the becoming of vampires rise from the dire which grown by taste and habit which is somehow adventure equallant to the hunting etc... or the growth of the dark dire about dark practices to gain energies or to keep self away from disgraced in dire of those habits.

The Origins of Vampirism

Some of the earliest evidence of Ritual Vampirism comes from Tartaria in Transylvania and stems to the fifth millennium BC. Remains of a human body were found buried in a fire pit along with clay tablets upon which were inscribed the names of the ’Sumerian’ god Enki and the ranking number of Father Anu. The language was subsequently termed ’proto-Sumerian’ and represented some of the earliest written artifacts yet to be found.

The descendants of these early vampires were the Sacred Ubaid Race who, one millennium later, settled Mesopotamia and founded the Anunnaki religion of the Sumerians in 3500 BC. Their Transylvanian ancestors were the Anunnaki Gods themselves.

Various suggestions have been proposed in an attempt to explain the origin and meaning of the word vampire. One recent suggestion was that it was applied to a group of ’Watchers’ (Seers - Derkesthai: Dragons) who had occupied a settlement near "lake Van", in Urartu - Armenia. The original location - Greater Scythia - is faultless, the association is without error but the etymology is unresearched and the philology is completely absent.

Although that author’s suggested identification between Watchers and Vampires is absolutely correct, the word vampire does not in any sense relate to their former geographical location or origin but, as we shall see, rather to the vampires’ social and spiritual identity and status within a given cultural framework, which in this instance was Scythian, overlaid on Celtic.

In the journals of the 17th century cleric, the Abbé Calmet, the word vampire is transliterated into its most common, and its earlier, central European form which is spelt either oupire or oupere. These spellings are common in literature of Calmet’s time and represent the original form of the word vampire.

Doru,

My own research has found much that links the Slavic Vampire with the Sumerian Anunnaki. Yet so far I have been unable to find the "smoking gun" evidence linking ancient Transylvanians with the Sumerians that the claims found at the referenced website allege. Rather glaringly, the website from which you quoted provides no citations, references, etc., of the archeological studies, etc., verifying any of this. Thus, I have written the webmaster of the provided website requesting any such evidence of the claims made as might exist. I await their reply.

i have a theory that the "classic/immortal/living dead vampire" is actually a spirit or ghost that lives from the life force or blood of its victim. this would explain at least some of the lore, the being in a coffin by day (buried in many cases) then coming forth to feed, then returning to the coffin without digging it up.
the belief that destruction of the corpse might end the night walking may or may not have some basis in reality (as this theory may or may not lol).
if you were a ghost, you wouldnt age. perhaps you could manifest yourself in a solid form, which might give you the appearance of great speed/strenth and a defying of the laws of physics.
just something to consider as rod serling said so well, and ofcoarse, your own milage may vary.

Humans that had an energy deficiency, due to living out of nature and in congested cities.

They could no longer draw their energy from nature as they could when they lived in simple rural towns and villages, so they adapted to the next most available source of energy: other humans.

I'm talking about real vampyres, by the way. Not story book ones. Those are from space. Or other dimensions.

The origin of the true vampire lays in an obfuscated reality. The meaning became opaque long ago. It was from myth and legend that society believed in from short tales the elders gave to their youth regarding things that "go bump in the night."

From there, we can only surmise that the origin came from a past story based on such bedtime stories. Much like religion save for in a differant context altogether...Forgive the analogy, but it was best suited for making a good point.

Society seems to depend on certain classifications and standards to make something relevant to the "cause", whatever that "cause" may be to them at the time.

What in my opinion is the origin of the vampire? Simply put, human fascination for things that are naturally immune to death. Since society seems to have a great fear of dying, why not make an entity that beholds death but is naturally immune to it? Not to say that storybook vampires cannot perish, since they are the undead, but everything dies. Final death is the ultimate after all.

Idea is key for such admiration of the vampire, whether it is from a bedtime story, or from an individual that "seems" to "feed" from another's "energy" or life force. While this method is still unproven, who is to say it does not happen?

Something that sparked societies interest is a plain view on the origin of the vampire. For fiction to become a reality, it needs to have great detail, as well as purpose. Do not get me wrong, there are those within society that are true vampire, but again...What is true vampire? An individual that has the need to "feed" from another individual? So the definition goes...A blood drinker? Mayhaps...Some just need further "nourishment" to survive. Many say "prove it", for the skeptics out there, there may be no clear proof to this unless you were the individual of whom needs this extra nourishment.

All in all, a perspective on the origin of the vampire would be just like that of a religious debate. Something to keep up the fascination with immortality. Since the true vampire is far from immortal.
