What do you define as Deja vu?
is it a trick of the mind?
Is it a form of psychic paranormal?
let me know what your keel on it is.. It fascinates me. and I get it on a regular basis, and always leaves me questioning why i had it, even in places I'd never been to.
If you go by the definition it seems simple..
dé·jà vu (dzhä v)
NOUN:
1. Psychology The illusion of having already experienced something actually being experienced for the first time.
2.
1. An impression of having seen or experienced something before: Old-timers watched the stock-market crash with a distinct sense of déjà vu.
2. Dull familiarity; monotony: the déjà vu of the tabloid headlines.
But some people think there is more to it...like a switch in the mind that flips when it happens and something else occurs.
I have had De ja Vu many of times and the way i think life goes it makes sense to me. I think that you live your life over and over till you get it right and de ja vu is you remembering previous lives
I think it,s when you recognise something you,ve seen before , either from a dream , or from some other form of pre-cognition . I,ve had a quite lengthy episode of deja-vu , and subsequently belive that everything has happend before , life is already mapped out before we experience it , and deja-vu is a momentary realisation of this . But thats just my little theory.
I have had deja' vu dreams before...then as the experience is happening...I realize it was a dream I had and I change something in the middle...because in the dream it turned out badly.
I have had De ja Vu several times, whether its trckery of the mind or not, when it happens it seems almost scary that you can describe the next events to happen.
to me it means you have been in a place before or did something be fore or have met someone before.
Yes i truly think it is trick of the mind but i as well have had de ja vu quite a few times.. Or i will have a dream nd then wake up and it will come true and it just feels like de ja vu.
My deja vu is almost always a remembered dream.
I never get the namby pamby "this feels familiar" kind of Deja vu often anymore, it is always an all out, I can tell you that somebody is going to do or say something specific before they say it because I have seen it before, usually years before, out of context, in a dream.
I had a really odd 2 day deja vu experience a couple of years ago. Freaked me out like watching a movie that I know most of the words by heart, because it was a recouring dream.
There is a theory that all events are preceded by a wave announcing it's arrival. Having a song go through your head and knowing that it is going to be the next song on the radio is liek this. Deja vu may be like this.
Others say that deja vu is the time between when the experience is experienced and the time your brain processes it, giving you an odd echo like effect.
De ja vu, i have heard some where along the lines, is that either the left side or the right side, brifly runs slower than the other. If that makes sense.
i would have to agree with moonbubble , it seems like everytime i have had deja vu` it's been some type of warning because the last time i had i was headed to colorado and some bad things happened there. life is a big play and we are all just actors with minor parts.
certain people I hang around with are very routine, they claim to experience De Ja Vu, I am rather convinced it has more to do with how shallow they are socially. Note not all who experience what they interprete as De Ja Vu( or preminitions) are associated with shallow people. If you are a day dreamer you may also experience de ja vu, my anxiety sometimes makes me " case-senerio" the next days agenda, so that when the following day something syncs.. Then I experience De Ja Vu like thoughts.
I get de ja vu all the time, which i thought was alright, until recently someone told me that you get that feeling whenever something small bursts in your brain :s
Not entirely sure how true that is though.
I've always associated De Ja Vu with dreaming...dreaming the experience before it happens...and then when the incident happens it refreshes the memory... Just a theory ;-).
Deja vu is not a small thing bursting your brain...geez.
It is a feeling that you have done something before...as it is happening. Some cases have been linked to dreams such as premonition dreams.Where you dream about something before it happens...bad or good.
I have dreams like this all the time and have bouts of deja vu after.
Getting stuck in loops relating to memory could be an indicator of dementia.. but dementia is rare in people under 65 years of age.
Mehhh...--__--
I have that all the time.At least 20 times a year.
Yeah...i DID count all of them every year. It's like
somthing is trying to tell me that i have done somthing
before..and is trying to warm me about it before i
make grave mistakes. But,i never remember untill it
actually happens and it's like..'I have been here before.'
you know,
sometimes i think that maybe we are stuck in a
quantim(donno how to spell it)jump or leap..only
we are going backwards.
Haven't we talked about this before? *sorry, couldn't resist, go ahead, groan and roll yer eyes....lol*
I think de ja vu can sometimes be the fact that some of us live routine lives and have active imaginations. It's not too far-fetched to think that we can imagine something in our normal day-to-day lives that can happen, and being around the same people long enough, know what they're going to say.
That being said, I also think that de ja vu CAN be a repeat, of a dream, a premonition, something triggered in our subconscious. Never really going to know or be able to prove one way or the other.
Most of my De Ja Vu seem to come from my dreams..
I will dream about something and then a little while later it happens... Very weird I can not explain it myself.
i think maybe its a way of seeing into the future subconciously
Just to back up what i said from ealier in this thread;
From Wiki..
Since the last years of the 20th century, déjà vu has been subject to serious psychological and neurophysiological research. Scientifically speaking, the most likely explanation of déjà vu is not that it is an act of "precognition" or "prophecy," but rather that it is an anomaly of memory giving the impression that an experience is "being recalled."
This explanation is substantiated by the fact that the sense of "recollection" at the time is strong in most cases, but that the circumstances of the "previous" experience (when, where, and how the earlier experience occurred) are quite uncertain. Likewise, as time passes, subjects[where?] can exhibit a strong recollection of having the "unsettling" experience of déjà vu itself, but little or no recollection of the specifics of the event(s) or circumstance(s) they were "remembering" when they had the déjà vu experience. In particular, this may result from an overlap between the neurological systems responsible for short-term memory (events which are perceived as being in the present) and those responsible for long-term memory (events which are perceived as being in the past). The events would be stored into memory before the conscious part of the brain even receives the information and processes it.
Well if you were to take advice from a very helpful shaman, he/she would say that anyone that experiences dajavu is on the right path. :)
Now I see deja vu dreams as different to waking deja vu...
the familiarity is the same feeling.. but it's a different connection.
i get waking deja vu in situations, AS WELL as with places i've been to.
ever felt like you've lived a moment, before?
blows me away trying to understand it.
Well for me and of course this just my personal opinion and what I have experienced, of course I am no expert nor do I claim to be, but De Ja Vu to me has happened many times. Sometimes as what I would call a premonition, do warm me of something bad that is about to happen, cant even tell ya how many times that has happened to me, and alot of times it happens when I am driving and i will get a flash of an accident because of something running out in-front of me or a car not stopping, so it causes me to slow down and 7 out of 10 times what i saw was going to happen did happen and I avoided it by slowing down.
But also I believe that sometimes when i get it, and think I know I have been here before, its a glimpse from a past life.
I have had De Ja Vu before about different places old houses I knew I had never been in before , Every time I see the Country side of Ireland I get the same feeling and tears come to my eyes as though I,m seeing something I missed terribly .
My friend used to have a quite good theory , she thought that it was the neuro messages being repeated , sort of like an echo in your perception of a situation . Which caused your sesation of deja-vu , "I,ve seen this before " possibly just a few thousandths of a second before hand , but it would be enough to give you a feeling that you can,t quite place .
I've had De ja Vu ever since I was a kid.
Sometimes it can be kinda distressing, like if you're under the influence of alcohol, drugs or prescription medication.
The main one I remember was when I was on Fluoxetine Hydrochloride (Prozac) and it messed with my head so much that even a little sense of De ja Vu sent me over the edge and almost drove me crazy.
Other than that, it seems to come and go.
Does anyone else get that? Where you won't have it for months and then ~bang!~ you'll have it every day 3 times a day for the next 2 weeks?
It can get really annoying.
My earliest experience of it, and I'm surprised I can still remember it, must've been when I was about 4, and I'd been swimming at the leisure center with my dad, and I went to get an ice cream, and I remember holding it and walking out of the big blue automatic doors and saying "Oh, there you are!" and my dad held out his hand to lead me across the car park.
Strange thing is from what I remember, I sounded exactly like my younger step-sister did when she was that age.
Strange :)
As I exercise deductive reasoning, de ja' by episoids slowly stop. I can " glean" a situational outcome, not so much premonition ( as LDR mentions) but more inconclussion logic.
Example:
I leave a party with someone, we had a good time the designated driver is ready ( perhaps antsy ) to go.
We get into the car ( reveling from the party experience) and start driving..
a few blocks away I " sense" a sudden situation..
A situation happens..
what gave me the precognative scoop?
As a professional passanger ( I never learned to drive)I study ( subconciously) peoples rituals/ routines certain routines assure other routines funtion properly, a rite not done if done at a different stage can
effect the current stage.
Back to the example; a person who calls ahead before driving somewhere
Calls prior to departing ( when not distracted by babysitting partiers) so me knowing a call needs to be made, that it wasn't made, and that it would lilly be made while the person is preoccupied with driving..
All this though not "Super Natural" is rather natural phenomena. Exercising the process is important.
Most people who claim to be have premonitions seldomly have an option to apply said " premonition" as the " recollition of familiarity comes after the event " recalled" as precognative.
Mentalist know how to stump the " forcast" ability of thinking people.. Detectives use the same ability. And Cult leaders interprite such things to be signs that the leader is " teaching" the follows to be " enlightened".
i believe that deja vous is a common yet unexplainable experience that occours when we tap into our intuition on a hightened level
just throw this in there,
I have very rarely had de ja vu before i joined the military, but after i did it became very very common for me. to the point that i dint really noticed it anymore. ever so often i will get hit with a strong since of it, and that is the time that i trust my gut as it usually means something bad is about to happen. that is just my two cents.
I've heard that it's a glitch in the electrical path between your eyes and your brain. That your eyes catch something and your brain "sees" it twice so it gives the impression that you've been there or seen the events before.
I think it is a part of yourself that remembers or is reminding you of something important. Sometimes it could be it reminds you of a past life.. that connects with this life in some way. Or at that very moment something important is happening to remind you of your life lessons.
De ja Vu- Is when you have the feeling that you have been there, done that, felt it, and/or seen it before. Now whether you have or not I haven't determined yet, I do think it's more that you've dreamed of it .
I'm a firm believer in De ja Vu I experience it occassionaly.
i have had it and its not bad just very weird and sometimes i dont like it much at all .
One of the more interesting aspects of Deja Vu involves the hypothesis that when one experiences this, they are experiencing a point where time loops back on itself akin to railroad tracks.
It is also generally accepted that when we observe a particle in motion, what we are actually witnessing is the cancellation of all other possible paths that particle has taken except for the one that has no mirrored opposite.
in my opinion De Ja Vu is when u have the experience of something for a second time after its already happen once but u dont remember it happening and then u say feels like de ja vu and everyone is like what
"The striking sensation of having been in the same place/situation before. The sensation goes beyond just a "familiar memory" to actually feeling as though the exact situation is being repeated."

My grandmother always told me that DeJa Vu was the result of an old soul.
She didn't believe in death. She always said we were born again and again to fix the problems we had in a past life.
So, her belief on it was that when we experience something familiar, it's our soul's recognition of the situation and trying to warn us...
Our brains though, obviously new as the body it was born in, doesn't know the situation as it has never come across it...
A bit on the weird side, I know... But it made sense to her and does to me. ^_^
i guess its almost like.....hmm being in a molment twice i dunno,,kinda wierds me out sometimes
What do you define as DejaVu? Is it a trick of the mind?
As I've experienced it, I suddenly feel very familiar with a place... sometimes, triggered by a scent. Consciously, I can't remember having been there but, I can walk arround feeling I know exactly where I am and, when I turn a corner... it's exactly as I saw it in my "mind's eye".

I really just define Deja Vu as a feeling of memory even though you know you've never been in that situation before ealier I was actualy sitting looking into my kitchen and had this Deja Vu feeling and couldn't place why it's a new apartment new kitchen shit new table new chairs, and then realized that I'd had the feeling before and kind of seen or dreamed about this exact place and moment it felt more like the moment that a premonition became true than Deja Vu but it was still eerie.
I have a sense of "de ja vu" often. I never really wondered what it meant. I just accepted it and always think to myself, "damn, that was weird!".
Now that I think of it, when I get that sense I am almost never by myself. There is interaction with another and there is almost always a conversation happening when I get the sense. I know what that person is going to say and I know what my reply will be.
It happens most with my soulmate and my family, but it has happened with complete strangers as well.
Just like with dreams, I have stopped trying to read in to it too much and just let it happen. My head is full of thoughts all the time, my own and others. If I were to try to analyze every time I feel the "de ja vu" I would be nuttier than I am now.
De ja vu, its definitely something that is not out of the ordinary in my life. I know that things were weird already in my dreams, but some how they related, or happened to be somewhat true. Like my Grandfathers death. I knew he was gonna die in the Summer, and he did. Everyone in my family was like that was so out of the blue, and I was telling them it was his will to rest. He was tired, and exhausted. He worked all until he was 77. He died 10 years later after retiring. Weird.. nah!
