A question came to mind while I as answering a thread, regarding " Insanity".
What degrees of insanity are detectable?
Are some more capable of acting sane?
Do you feel you could pass your self off as insane? What inspiration would you use to model your role on?
I have suffered a psycosis, I amused myself with lunacy, I am still decoding
cryptic writtings.
Bonus question.
Are actions ( crimes) done by " Insane" people Grey?
It seems to me it should be called " Intensity". The more intense a person is it seems the more insane they are.
It's as simple..as asking yourself..'are you normal?whats is normal?'
what is Insain? How do you REALLY know your not
crazey or mentally wrong?
so many things out there..so many things of the mind,
space..and origins.How can you tell?
Maybe you just think diffrently.
I met Normal once, not much to speak of.
Is insanity a lack of social restraint? A lack of concern for taboo?
Too many criminals use the insanity plea to get away with murder...literally.
The bad thing is,with this there are a lot of people that have actual mental issues and they are over looked because people think they are faking to get attention.
No,thats not insainity..
Its usually..brough on my not connecting with the
6 sences..or 5 anyways.
Like if someone speaks to someone..you want a response..if that person does not respond or respond
in an normalish way, that that may indicate that one may
not be in there right mind.
If one cant connect a response in sight or touch..
or respond if a wierd and disfunctional way,
then..yeah..insainty is sinking in.
The person is who they are- no matter what anyone wants to label them. If someone thinks something they think it. It's too easy to make up a label and dismiss someone. Modern psychology is a scam. It seems noone is responsible for their own actions anymore.
in insanity pleas I think the only cases that have merit, are the people that had an active dygnosis prior to the crime.
oh i could pass as insane for sure id just trip back about 15 years when i was too high on meth,.i now have 2 years clean but yeah thats easy hun,,,~
the only hesitation/ reserve I would have about going insane would be the lose of credulity. There is a stigma attatched to people deemed insane, even if they reconnect with their sanity.
I at one time was called insane due to the fact i had a mental break down due to stress.. Omg it was not a good time for me.. I wasnt put anyhere but i sorta shut down.. didnt act happy and kinda just gave up on sunny days.. I would say i snapped and went insane and ddint care at all. You have to care and at the time i ddint give a care.. I am good now and all but at times you can just go nuts and not care what the outcome is.
Insanity is the ability to think differently from other people. Genious is when you you think differently but can still relate.
So I guess what I am saying is:
Insanity is how well you relate to the people and cultures to which you are exposed.
I use to live on the edge. Driving a car 100 miles per hour...etc.
I don't call that insanity. I call it living on the edge, being young.
I think we all have our own charatoristics we either grow out of them....or get a little bit crazier with them.
I have had depression....sometimes too much happens at one time to us and we just have a meltdown.
Insanity is just a term for Therapist...etc.
I remember a woman who use to stand on the street and cuss everyone out....who was not there. I did not think she was insane....I just thought her mind went and Gawd only knows what medications she was on.
I also think when we have taken alot over a period of time and we snap and do something as murder....it was
that our mind just could'nt take it anymore.
Now premeditated murder is completely different it was well to thought out.
Most all serial killers have a high IQ and I think they take adavantage of people who have weak minds.
But insane is not a favorite word in my volcabulary
People thought my Step-Grandfather was going insane...but he was going into altimzers.
So how does one really classify the word insane?
You pose an interesting question dabbler.
I think the diagnosis of insane may be in the eyes of the therapist.
If you think about the various types of psychological issues, does the word insane even fit. As far as I know there is no scale of insanity, 1 to 10. But yet individuals certainly can have psychosis, neurosis or other conditions.
I would say most people would think a person insane if that person were a danger to themselves or to others.
The interesting conditions are things like depression. The person isn't necessarily suicidal, the person just don't care if they live or die.
I think most people could represent themselves as insane to some level. Naturally it gets harder the longer one would carry on.
After observing a person react to another person in the midst of a impulsive
exercise of nonsequitors ( they reacted as if the impulsive actions where to amuse them) I questioned who was the sanist. Perhaps the more " isolated"
a person is by their Psycosis, or Complex the more" insane"they appear.
Had society not developed Behavioral Studies we would still be lost on such things as Alzheimer, Parkasiens, even Acute Torettes , all things that established religions, and the Occult would have people think is somehow spiritual ( demons) or cosmic/ metaphysics ( tainted chi).
I am encouraged by my latest poll,
"What do you personally I invest in the occult, metaphysics?"
The clinical option remains unchecked.
Another thing I see in California, relating to the acting insane, or mentally diminished for SDI, or SSI is a lose to win situation.
No sorry I don't think I could pass myself off as insane or have insanity problems I love to Question things to much .
Questioning things to much, woman who question things have been labeled imbalenced, as well as insane, what woman in her right mind questions anything.. ( I Kid) I see your reasoning.
seventeen ways to know if your insane
1 you get into public debate with your self and lose
2 you have attempted to bite your nose off for more than five minutes
3 for some reason you find yourself laughing nonstop during the news
4 you have broken your intergalactic space modulator
5 you listen to Bathovens symphanys backwards for hidden messages
6 you say no to drugs but the dont listen
7 you record the weather channel
8 you have purchased pictures of Dan Quail in a thong on e-bay
9 you have stared at a cd for hours trying to figure out why the band put your face on the back side
10 the voices in your head have formed a union
11 there is a party in your shoe and your pants are coming down
12 you dont know were you left your siamese twin
13 you have paid good money for a used casket
14 your neighbors have referred to you as "a quiet guy who kept to him self." on T.V.
15. you call random numbers hoping someone you know will answer
16 you wake up screaming before you have even fallen asleep
17 you read all of these and haven't laughed once
now for a real response i believe we are all truely insane but most of us have learned how to act around others sanity much like morality is really only a group consensus of how we should behave
Your degree of insanity is directly proportional to how much your abnormal psychology isolates you from the society which reared you, or with which you have chosen to interact.
hm...I did not laugh once during the aforementioned list.
All of it is completely subjective. The only one I can see as remotely indicative of insanity is the one about chewing ones own nose off...
I have a feeling though this is meant to be humour, and that I have a tendency to be too serious at times.
so again, no indication of insanity there.
Like the term "schizophrenia", "insanity" I believe is an "umbrella" term, which encompasses so much ambiguity to be almost laughable.
There are measurable degrees of "abnormality" or difference between individuals, as is there a agreed consensus of behavious deemed acceptable by society.
If one wishes to integrate with society, one agrees to live within these guidelines, and may be conformed accordingly.
So therefore any behaviour that would impede the goal of adequate integration could be deemed as insanity.
However if one wishes to either join an alternate consenting community, or isolate then should the agreed consensus of the rejected society still apply? Should the law? why?
Deteriation of the mind, psychosis and dementia are other tangents to consider.
I guess it is determined by the nature of reality, and how you percieve and define it.
As far as pleading insanity in a murder case, surely the pivotal point is motive as usual.
If the prosecuted percieves reality differently than the majority, can the rules of the majority apply in quite the same way?
If I kill my spouse, because I genuinely believe that she is possessed by a demon, and am further concerned about the community's welfare as my own, is this not a caring and noble act, to sacrifice my own partner for a greater good?
Well perhaps not, but one could percieve a situation from various viewpoints quite easily.
Of course determining the authenticity of the motive is beyond my means.
And that is where it gets very tricky indeed.
A question came to mind while I as answering a thread, regarding " Insanity".
What degrees of insanity are detectable? There are many different degrees of insanity to be detected.
Are some more capable of acting sane? Yes some can play sane and do it very well yet it depends on how deep of a phycosis their mind is in.
My sister has 4 personalities and I had to grow up with her and she even tried to murder our mom. So yeah they can fool you on many levels depending on what their prognosis is.
Do you feel you could pass your self off as insane?
Sure I think most people could pull off being insane, with no problem
What inspiration would you use to model your role on?
I would use my sister or Sybill,Charles Manson hell alot out there to choose from. LOL
Exccelent hypothetical AA
If a man had no prior criminal history, and over a period of time observed
behavior in his wife that confirmed in someway what he considered demonic influence ( perhaps his wife delved into meth), his actions would be relative to his conclusion. To be so mentally stressed, and perhaps to some degree
dissassociated ( denial), yet a person " playing the not guilty by insanity card" Would have to suppress " sane" responses, and relative associative behavior, meaning, any indication that a pretense is being managed, and supported. Profilers, and Criminal Behavioralist are onto the routine abuse of
The " Insanity plea"
One must also remember the Insanity plea is only a suspension of a case, it is " until the defendant can be deamed in sound mind to stand trial."
I did not realise this about the insanity plea. That is was merely a suspension of trial. hm...
However, we are still left to contend with the fact that no matter how "sane" one becomes, it does not rectify the laspse into "insanity" of the past.
In fact the removal from the particular mentality may prove to obscure the truth of the time.
????
The mans neighbors may agree that the his wifes behavior become so radically different, that it would make a person consider demon possession as a logical conclusion. If I was on that jury I would consider aquital!
But this is still maintaining that the man is able to understand normal logic, and or the logic of the neighbours assimilated.
So if this man *was* insane, and detected behaviour while completely obvious to himself, but was unknown/undetected by the neighbours...what of the plea then?
Eventually under scrutiny he would break, he would likely be deamed fit for trial. Andre Yates gas been brought to arraignent twice already, her review has maintained her " reasoning" us consistent, she intended to save her children..
this is a subject that strikes me as interesting but i am unable to articulate my thoughts on it
May I ask if this is a true crime or if we are just speculating on an imagined crime? If it is a true crime might I ask for more specifics? I can say that if he got away with the insanity defense to begin with that he more than likely under the care of doctors will continue to be able whether he was to begin with or not. You learn alot about insanity from the units where you would be kept.
it is hypothetical, the question of wether a person that is usually mentally fit ( of sound mind), but then commits an act that defies that once mentally fit persons nature, then a Profile would need to be done, evidence, and the actions prior to the act, and after the act would need to be consistent with
a person acting in a less then criminal fashion.
Manner relative to social Norms are often disregarded, or rationalized as unneccesary to " insane people".
Is "insanity" self actialized?
This just gets more and more interesting.
I have contemplated a theory, that if one is actually truly insane, one would have little to no knowlege of the fact.
One that declares themselves insane must have a working concept of that which would render them sane.
It would be necessary to have this other perspective, comparative to that deemed "insane" to have a concept of it.
???
Insanity, craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns. Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including becoming a danger to themselves and others, though not all such acts are considered insanity. In modern usage insanity is most commonly encountered as an informal unscientific term denoting mental instability, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense. In the medical profession the term is now avoided in favor of diagnoses of specific mental illness such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. When discussing mental illness in general terms, "psychopathology" is considered a preferred descriptor.

Therapists can be fooled trust me by some. They use the DSMIV here to diagnose but you would never get diagnosed as insane usually that is just a generic term and mostly used in the courtroom, it could be anything.
Many things can be treated. I did research some into crimes of passion and what they call momentary insanity. I don't know if I believe in that by definition. They could find a better one. Crimes of passion have been committed by anyone and usually jealousy is involved. An otherwise "normal" person will get so worked up they will kill or hurt another person. It is usually different with women and men so I don't know. Those mentioned prior have malfunctions in the brain usually such as schizophrenia. They have delusions and their world view is different. What the average person may think is happening can be entirely different. Then you have what most think of as totally insane, the serial murderer and many things can cause that. I have written on those as well such as Albert Fish and he could lucidly explain his motivation but of course he broke societal rules. He knew what he was doing but was he rational or "insane?"
In case you don't know who Albert Fish was:
Albert Hamilton Fish (May 19, 1870 – January 16, 1936) was an American serial killer and cannibal. He was also known as the Gray Man, the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, and The Boogeyman. A child molester and cannibal, he boasted that he had "had children in every state," and at one time put the figure at around 100. However, it is not clear whether he was talking about molestation or cannibalization, less still as to whether he was telling the truth. He was a suspect in at least five murders in his lifetime. Fish confessed to three murders that police were able to trace to a known homicide, and confessed to stabbing at least two other people. He was put on trial for the kidnapping and murder of Grace Budd, and was convicted and executed via electric chair.

All forms are detectable or diagnosed. Thre are 118 so far and new ones stemming.
Treating is another issue.
The problems is that multiple symtoms are easily confused with other mental disorders and often misdiagnosed and mismedicated. Thus creating a bigger problem publicly.
Grey area- Holding someone criminally sane or insane is simply a question as to whether the will be sentenced to prison or institutionalized if they commit a crime.
there is a way to tell if one is truely catatonic or not by moving thier arm and iam not sure which way it is for sure if they leave thier arm where it is when the doc moves it they are truely catatonic or if they just drop their arm like its limp ...i wish i could remember which way on that one and if a person claims they hear voices and the doc ask are the voices in your head or in one ear not the other LOL if you say eighter of those your faken it cause you hear voices saposedly like someone talking to you normally thoe i question this cause what if in fact you think the voice is whispering in one ear it seems closer to one yet you do hear with both and your so disturb by these voices you just say its in the one ear eh hell iam totally bonkers
I met insanity once and it had no moral restraint. It behaved outside of what we deem normal human behaviour. Some would call it being possesed, which is utter noncence, others call it insanity. I like to call it mental health issues.
