This online community really is an interesting animal ;) We have all kinds of members that join for various reasons. Some are in to role-playing, some just adore the mythology and fiction, and some are here due to the modern day human vampire. All these being valid reasons to join "The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory" which encompasses all of that- we regularly notice that when someone's reasons for being here don't fall directly in line with someone else's, they are ridiculed.

People here allude to others not belonging here because they are fans of a piece of fiction they don't like, because they believe in vampires, because they don't believe in vampires, or because they just want to have a good time with the RPG. But... why does any of it have to be wrong? Why can't all of these people get their respect?

If nothing else, the site is totally vampiric. Members ruffle other's feathers and in essence feed off the frustration they cause. Energy is conjured and sucked out. People can't allow themselves to budge from what they believe is the 'true vampire'.

I actually am on all sides. I appreciate all of your reasons for being here. And even though I came here as a mythological vampire enthusiast, I am good friends with a person (not to be named) who totally identifies as a vampire. He and I have a great friendship, and our possible differences in opinions of vampires have never caused a riff in it. Not once.

So, I ponder the intolerance of other people's views of vampires- on all sides. Why can't some people accept the human vampire, why can't some human vampires accept those who are only here for the fiction, and why can't some people accept that everyone appreciates different vampire literature? It seems to me, if you can't tactfully, without bashing, discuss your oppositions- it'll never happen. When you can, you can find great friends here no matter what your reason for joining.

How do you all feel about this? And if you feel you are one of the more intolerant people- why is it that it bothers you so much what another person prefers?

In my generous opinion, some individuals are infatuated with disinformation, and believe themselves to be an actual living impersonation of the figure, when is all leaked sources of biased interpretational based conclusions. Although I respect every individual with the same amount of understanding of why they proclaims whatever they believe to be, some are more arrogant in the process than others, and can be quite intrusive in what can it really be without no knowledge about it, and not just this topic but as well in many various mainstream realizations in other fields deviating from mythology or fiction as well.

I for one accept everyone's reasons for being here. After all, we have people who are into vampires, who are vampires, who are witches, and so much more. It doesn't mean that this place isn't for them. I mean technically if you thought this place was just for real vampires, then why would there be a free membership rather than giving an application or something to prove that you are or aren't one. Not only that, but if it that was the case, there's plenty of places online and off where the "real" vampire can be a member and be accepted.

This site I feel was brought about to allow everyone who's interested in the same things, whether it be an interest of theirs or a life style, that they all have common meeting ground online. It's a way to share your beliefs and views without being judged.

I won't come right out and say yeah I'm this and this to someone right off the back...it's not who I am or how I portray myself to an extent. I feel that once I know a person to a certain level and see that they are someone I can actually open up to on a whole different level, then yeah...I'll tell them about who I am and what not. There's a lot about me that most people don't accept, but I feel that since I've been a part of this site, that I have been accepted.

Honestly, I enjoy this site. I'm a lover of vampiric lore, myth, and fantasisms. I'm also a lover of the night and of the shadows as they are where I feel most comfortable.

I've met so many people on this site that just enjoy being a part of the night that it's not even funny anymore. This site allows others to let out the side of themselves that society forces us to lock away, to not delve upon.

Those are reasons why I like this site. I don't hide who I am for I find no need to; but for others, this site is a release. It is a way to be expressive in a darker manner and to let out a source of stress, or hidden desire, that otherwise would be frowned upon.

I think of it along the lines of a nursery or playground rhyme: we all have our own library of shared oral truthes, some even share the same name and general (not all ways the case) sequence of words and events. They are cherished deep within us, as much as I cherish the full gritty version of "Who Killed Cock Robin".

But what happens when someone uses a slightly different adjective in one of the sanctified stanzas? It will undoubtedly dishevel and make our neck pores quiver (since I assume not all people have hair back there to stand on end, I assume the sensation would be nearly the same). It'll happen to the mass of us, I dare say there will be few exceptions for exceptional purposes (i.e. they really are dead or have been for some time).

However, there is a wildered difference between ire and outright ostracization. My sister being a fine example in her misuse of what I call "propre grammar". I correct her often, but there is no doubt of what she is actually communicating (its hard not to ascertain that). Butting heads makes for variety and dischordial entertainment. Even if its an eternal itch, it reminds us that our blood is our own.

And I should talk, I too often lose words at a moment's notice.

Aren't vampires suposed to war amongst themselves?

*laughs*

One thing that is often forgotten about this medium, is that tone is not always obvious. A person may be passionate about a given topic, and come across as beligerant. Othertimes a person could be joking or being entirely ironic, and unless you are intimately familiar with a persons method of posting, it could be easily misconstrued.

Personally, I like seeing a little heat in the discussions, because it brings out a lot of peoples best arguements, and you get to see an opinion that you ptobably would not have seen before.

That is probably also why neonates are a little scared of sires.

It's not always all good, but it does tend to keep things from degrading, and people new on here get to learn a lot about different points of view, and which ones may be the strongest fealt... so that thay may form their own opinions.

There are all sorts of vampires available for discussion, and many of the core vampire "memes" do not allow for certain other kinds; or they may feel that imposter vampires are insulting, or a form of prejudice.

You can't really misinterpret those people that outright call others idiotic and moronic :P They may not use those words here, but they'll do it in their journals, then come to the forum and craft it as per ToS ;)

There are plenty of people that become unhinged by other people's versions of vampires. I'm just wondering why it matters to some people so much.

our definitions are cherished memoires or lovers; wars are started because of them, bonds of conjecture are broken, and the ever present hastily posted reply all in the name of that definition.

People do the same thing about religious or political convictions, and spelling.

How many rants have I seen about spelling?
Balance is much more likely than tolerance, which is why it is fantastic that there are people that have such a subtle way of achieving it when things seam to be getting too far out of control. Mind you... sometimes a sledge hammer to the face is nessesary.

It would seem that patience is a virtue best served on a plate of learned intellectual communications. Those of whom have started to come out of their ideological shells and have started to say to the world "hey this is me, live with it.", whether they be roleplayers, lifestylers, or whatever stereotype they wish to put themselves into for the sake of what they think society see's them as whether they are or not. Seem to want to be accepted in a sort of way throughout which ever "sub-culture" if one wishes to acknowledge this term, for the sake of themselves in light of their peers.

And yet, those who would ridicule others based on their philosophies, ideals, ways of life etc. seem to weather the scenerio for the sake either making themselves look somewhat important in an area that seems to suit their fancies, or just for the sake of doing so because that is the only way that they could blow off steam throughout their daily/nightly lives.

Then we would have those who would take it upon themselves to stand on the sidelines watching the conversation as it reveals itself and add their two cents where appropriate if it either matches their opinion, or contradicts it. Thus beginning a new scenerio over the same debate.

All in all, no one really knows the truth about what is out there more then the next individual since all knowledges and informations come from the same source which is the "human mind." Stereotype this into whatever the individual desires, but it will always be the same outcome, no matter how many levels of fantasy vs reality that seem to muster into the thought stream.

I love this topic..

Never have I come across soo many different points of view. We are all here for our own reasons.

But, I do enjoy the occasional hypocrite comments from those who have stated to be friends with vampires, but when one confesses to be one, they can not accept.

No matter who believes what here, I see we all have one common bond..vampires... curiosity..

on which level of curiosity people are here is their own personal matter.

I couldn't be bothered how others perceive vampires, I don't really think I have only one personal view of what a vampire is.

I actually came here for the Gothic sub-culture than the vampire one, but I like to learn about it, as well as other myths and topics.

What I dislike is when I see posts/journal entries, read messages, about who should and should not belong here, because of their own thought/belief of what a vampire is. I do not know why it happens, I guess people like when others agree, I guess it makes them feel they're right, even if it's a subjective topic, I like it too.

Anyway it is not in the TOS to have an objective view of what a vampire is to be here, yet it seems some want everyone to believe so, but this happens with many other topics, and it happens in the real life too, especially certain topics that people are passionate about.

So actually I don't get bothered by a point of view, but more likely an attitude.

Thank You Image for this thread...

Been asking myself why certain ones are here if they are non believers of the unknown...

I have traits as a vampire, demon also....I know We cannot turn one or have Immortal Life, but that doesnt stop Us from being who we are and our beliefs....

I have met alot of believers, non believers and just the ones who are here for whatever reason...It is a site for Us who Believe in Vampires and They are real..To meet like minded ppl who doesnt judge Us for what We believe...We are who We are and no-one can change that, accept Us for Us or leave Us alone..This is my opinion

i enjoy both sides but of course what first interested me was the sanguine vampirism and the subcultured lifestyle but then as time passed i got into the whole rpg thing online with my free time,i think mostly why others dont like the rpgers is because it gives the possibility of adding the not real factor or it could all just be rpg and that could be intimidating to others i personally dont think theres anything wrong with having your own opinion as long as it's not forced on another.

For me, it is interesting to see what others have to say in regards to vampires, vampire lore, etc, as I learn a lot of new things. I personally have my own take on how I view vampires myself (I'm creating my own vampire mythology for the hell of it - it's fun)!
I don't belittle others here who either disagree with me or have a total different viewpoint...I do think it's rather crappy for those that do though.

i really enjoy ppls opinions i enjoy reading of all types. If there real or not we may never find out anytime soon. Theres alot of people who believe there really vampires but then later on find out they have a disease or something in that section of why they enjoy drinking blood . evil vampires, good vampires , vampires that you see like twilight whatever all seems cool. Everyone dreams of maybe one day being a vampire or a wolf or a superhero but why do some just take it to the extreme level of trying to do something they see on the movies ...later on they get hurt and relize there not capable of doing it.

Do i believe in vampires yes i hear somewhat of a proof and more storys then i hear that there is a God. Just like alot of ppl here on this site who believe there vampires but there really not.

~Slippingamongsttheshadows~, what makes you believe that you are damphir in relation to this thread?

~Winterdarkmoon~ what makes you believe that you seem to have demonic traits, in relation to this thread?

So many individuals stating certain characteristics, qualities, traits or what not and half of them cannot recall what it means to be a certain something. Over time, the true meanings of characteristics is lost over time due to movies such as "Twilight" with the new "glittering" vampire ( which in my perspective was not a vampire movie, since no where in the movie did Cullen actually say he was vampire. He only asked Bella if she were scared), which in turn to some scholars either adds to the myth or simply changes societies belief system in a sort of obfuscated fashion.

If it came to light that vampires were actually ancestors of lizard-humanoid, would society fall for it if a description of this type of characteristic was believable?

What makes one believe one way or the other? Why adopt such characteristics? It is a lack of understanding for personal growth? Makes one think...

I am a follower of the myths and legends of the vampire world. I love reading about vampires and remember reading Stoker's 'Dracula' umpteen times, I guess it grew from there.
Since belonging to this site I have learned there are vampires out there with certain behavioral habits.
I am glad that VR is growing in membership of the different types and am tolerant of all these types.
I do still get a buzz when a kid asks to be 'turned' thou :-P

I, personally, try to have an open mind and respect everyone's opinions and beliefs no matter what they are.

I like seeing the various threads and some of the debates but I do not like it when someone who does not agree with something or believe as the poster does that they feel that they have to personally attact that person. That is different then disagreeing..I think we can disagree without the personal attacts on someone's thoughts or beliefs.

We are beings of free thinking and free will..what can be accomplished if we all believed and thought the same?

I think in my case it gets a little disconcerting when people try to speak of the actual community and get ridiculed by people in some cases who didn't know it even existed. It is not a matter of whether you believe or not but just good manners. That is where the tolerance comes in, in my opinion.

The home page of Vampirerave says this:

Vampire Rave is the social networking website for vampires and goths. We are a home for real vampires across the globe. If you're looking for a darker gothic or vampire social network, you've found it.

Vampire Rave was designed as an online resource for the vampire community.

Therefore after reading this, one would think they are welcome here for who they say they are and not picked apart to find out whether one is delusional. I would think some would have a little curiosity about the culture itself. That doesn't require belief but just interest on a positive level. We all have different belief systems here and I consider when someone ridicule others for what they believe about themselves it is no different than religion bashing. Some do consider it a religious thing but most don't. That is not the point.

It is fun to talk about the fictional characters...but misinformation about them and the inspirations for them is still bad information. The historical information is sketchy and I consider mythology but it is also interesting to see the views. I don't believe in name calling, that is silly but giving someone options to learn with a link I feel is not harmful. The only thing I have to say about roleplayers here is I feel if they write their persona on their profile at least identify it as such.

Other than that this place should be one where everyone can express their interest of the vampire on whatever level that may be.

In my opinion, some people are too close- minded. Yes, we all have our own beliefs. That's what keeps the world interesting!

But for people to create a profile just to make fun of everyone else?! No thanks.

I find the intolerance and stubbornness of others to be extremely annoying. To the point I find it hard to post in the general discussion.

Too many people are out to shove their opinion down your throat and make you swallow it... that is totally wrong. I am a fair minded person no matter what I think or believe its no right of mine to tell someone else your wrong.

Inconsistency is annoying.. how can someone be a real vampire and not believe in aliens or ghosts... but if you do so be it. But why have a at someone such as myself who believes in the supernatural and in life in the stars.

Over all I think the intolerance all boils down to society... Society has infected VR simply put. Unless your a sheep and follow everyone else your wrong.

The disagreement between members and the "flame" created by it, is what make VR an excellent place. To place Vampires, in the real world or in the fiction world, is up to the individual. We, as "human", can not understand when others tell us about their believe just because we don't comprehend the subject. Just because we think that doesn't exist, doesn't mean is not real. I just got back from the Mountain, not to high, 6500' up, was there for days, and let me tell you. The sensation of the unknown, feel better, when you are at a place where there is a probability of happening. We must respect the opinion of others, without judging their believes.

we all have indifferent reasons for joining, and to constantly be ridiculing and insisting ones beliefs or ideals require extensive proof, in my opinion is B.S.
They need to just enjoy this site and learn everyone is right to their way of life! And has the Right to be here!
Otherwise it would not be open site to the public!

I give everyone respect for the simple fact that we've all come together on this website and that in and of itself lets me and hopefully you all know that in a speck of humanity, we agreed on 1 thing. Now let's just agree on respecting each others beliefs.

Thankx
