I have currently been having some sort of recurring dream which for me is really strange because for years now I barely ever recall any dreams at all.
I was wondering what your thoughts are on recurring dreams, or sort of a continuing dream? What does it mean if anything at all?
Recurring dreams and recurring symbols in dreams usually point toward a lot of concern in day to day living. You would need to look at the symbols in your dream to determine what kind of message, if any, is trying to get through to your waking mind.
Dreams are fascinating. Often, a study of the colors in the dream and the various symbols point to restless thoughts in the waking mind. It's hard to tell if the dream has much meaning without knowing the dream itself.
Dreamstop.com used to be a good resource before they started charging. However, you can plug in a sentence or two at a time that contain some of the meaningful symbols of the dream to determine a bit of meaning here and there. There are also any number of dream symbol web sites and books that might serve well enough to point out the gist of the dream's meaning.
My husband has one of those reaccuring dreams as well. I never have those. His is about being in a war against the Germans. LOL Not sure what it means but since it's really the only one he's mentioned, it could be significant in some form to him personally.
I'm not all that sure, but it might mean that you need to do something, or you've forgotten something, or that something is coming up in the future that you don't know about yet..
They may not mean anything at all.. they can be a lingering thought you're able to get rid of. My dreams are horrifying but in the dreams, I love what I'm doing. What frightens me is that I may actually make them real.
A masochistic dreamer. Investing in dreams that will never materialize.
An end to a never ending dream made endless only by the Dreamer's refusal to get off the sinking ship. Which leads of course, to a dead end.
Recurring dreams can mean different things depending on the situation. For me recurring dreams have always been something that warned me of something or things that have passed.
It can mean that you may need to change something that is current or just a memory of the past. It could also mean many other different things.
Could be that your mind is opening up for higher frequencies to come into play and thus having recurring dreams regarding something that either needs to be done before you can gain an upper hand, or the universe is trying to tell you something that could be related to the opening of such higher frequencies.
Most will be aware that their frequencies with the universe could become higher the closer we get to the year 2012. This type of phenomenon goes with the sightings of apparitions such as ghosts, or shadow people (people from another dimension).
Just my two cents.
i often have dreams that come true.
i also dream of a great tidal wave which swallows england whole.
Ahh dreams are very interesting. Some dreams have meaning and others have none. I tend to look up dreams if they are consistantly coming back. It really depends on whats happening in the dream, are you involved in the dream and what you see in the dream.
For example everytime I have a dream that someone I care for is dying it normally turns out to be someone dies but not the person I dreamed of.
It can definitly be that your opening up to more and are becoming more sensitive to things than before. I'm going to look in my library and I'll send you a message of some suthors and book si think you may just benefit from.
I agree that dreams can be quite interesting. Some can be very puzzling and others you might get I guess. I think I've have had a few reoccurring dreams though now I can't recall them at the moment. But I have had a few dreams of the same theme elements to it.
It's usually someone I'm very close to and I see them in the hospital with just glimpses. Then it flashes over to a funeral wake in like a funeral home. I usually see them in the casket at some point, even if they're supposed to be cremated, before if flashes over to the actual burial site and they're being put into the ground. That's usually it. Just short flashes of the person and all but I know the outcome of what it means. It usually means the death of that person sadly.
It's happened for me a few times actually. When I was seven, I had that dream with my grandmother (my mother's mom). At the time I didn't understand death and what it meant so I didn't say anything about it. Two weeks later she ended up passing away.
Again I had it with my grandfather (my dad's dad). It was right around the time of the 9/11 attacks (just a few days before actually) and by that time I knew the meaning of death and all. I didn't say a word because I knew what was going to happen. Sure enough, two weeks later, he passed away.
The third time it happened with my other grandmother (my dad's mother) but this time she woke up during the wake in the casket. I was pretty upset and was hoping this was a sign of something that'd pass and she'd be okay. Two weeks later when nothing happened I kind of sighed in relief. But two weeks after that she had to go in the hospital but she ended up being just fine. Still scared me though.
But finally I had that same dream again with her a couple years later (last year actually) but this time she didn't wake up in the wake and it went like the other dreams. I knew there was nothing I could do about it so I didn't say anything again. I knew in two weeks she wasn't going to be around anymore. But two days later I had the dream yet again. This confused me as I'd never had it twice like that before. I had a very bad feeling all day that something bad was going to happen. My mother had the same feeling though I never told her about my dream. Sure enough, later that day while we were at work (and strangely the power went out at our work and like that section of the city three hours beforehand) and got called by my dad that my grandma had passed on.
I haven't had one of those dreams in a while but I'd had a similar dream like the first one of my second grandmother passing to my cousin's grandmother that had just gone through surgery and wasn't doing well. I saw her in the hospital but it didn't flash to the funeral wake. It was a little confusing but it almost felt as if she wasn't going to make it and then at the last moment I had a sense that she would recover. Sure enough, last I heard, she had a slight turn for the worse before we finally got word that she's doing much better.
I have been having this recurring dream for about a month now,im not going to go into detail about it,but it is a BAD dream
I think it is very important for you to document these dreams.
Generally if you have the same dream consistently it represents some thing of importance in your life.
This could be any thing from from a needed life change to an on coming or lingering illness that needs attention.
With out knowing specifics of this dream I could not possibly interpret but there are a lot of people out there that take dream study seriously. Im sure one would not be hard to find.
I generally have recurring dreams a hell of a lot. Mine dont mean anything. It would depend on the dream if you can relate the dream to your life then you may come across a reason for these dreams and resolve them.
In a nut shell you must have a lot going on in your life. Something in it is triggering the dream to recurre you need to stop and think what is on your mind all the time and you'll have figured it out.
I have had a few of these recurring dreams in my lifetime. Some are very scary when you dream the same thing every night for weeks.
Some of them have come true and some have not. My husband has had a dream that while driving down a road with the mountains behind us he looks in the rear view mirror just in time to see this wall of water come over the mountain and barrel toward us.
It left him very shaken the next morning, but so far nothing has come of it.
Some of my friends tell me that they have had a recurring dream of me crashing a van full of people and that really freaks me out.
It would depend on your own person choice(s) of what to accept and what to disgrad.
Some say dreams are memories being remembered in a state of mind other than in the 'awake' mode.
Some say they are preminitions of things to come.
Dreams are paths just like the ones we travel in the 'awake' mode. And these paths have gates, hurdles or pot-holes just the same as any other.
Some place a lot of 'power / faith / belief' in dreams while others don't.
I for one find dreams (those with or without happy endings) a part of who and what I am. Nothing more, notthing less; just another source of inspiration or enlightenment to either accept or disgard.
thanks. . .my problem is dreaming for me isnt normal...at least not that i remember. . .and this was so vivid like i was living it.
Only ever had one recurring dream and other than it also being my only dream that was in black & white, it doesn't mean a darn thing to me. The dream resembles the tv show "the little rascals" when it too was in black & white but I been having this dream before I ever saw the show.
For the most part, dreams are just the mind venting.
Well you know they are mainly symbolic and tell of what's going on in your life now and/or how you feel about things going on.
Sometimes they are messages from loved ones that have passed, and again, there is symbolism in those that they use so you will understand. You have to piece it together.
I believe that recurring dreams happen when you are worried about something. I had a recurring dream about my mom getting something dropped on her back when she was having back problems. I only have recurring dreams when I worry.
i have had a reocurring dream where i kept walking around our yard at night and then coming back inside without the alarm going off. a few nights later, when we were out of the house, someone broke in. it could mean that you need to prepare for something in the very near future
Freud said that the goal of therapy was to make the unconscious conscious. He certainly made that the goal of his work as a theorist. And yet he makes the unconscious sound very unpleasant, to say the least: It is a cauldron of seething desires, a bottomless pit of perverse and incestuous cravings, a burial ground for frightening experiences which nevertheless come back to haunt us. Frankly, it doesn't sound like anything I'd like to make conscious!
A younger colleague of his, Carl Jung, was to make the exploration of this "inner space" his life's work. He went equipped with a background in Freudian theory, of course, and with an apparently inexhaustible knowledge of mythology, religion, and philosophy. Jung was especially knowledgeable in the symbolism of complex mystical traditions such as Gnosticism, Alchemy, Kabala, and similar traditions in Hinduism and Buddhism. If anyone could make sense of the unconscious and its habit of revealing itself only in symbolic form, it would be Carl Jung.
He had, in addition, a capacity for very lucid dreaming and occasional visions. In the fall of 1913, he had a vision of a "monstrous flood" engulfing most of Europe and lapping at the mountains of his native Switzerland. He saw thousands of people drowning and civilization crumbling. Then, the waters turned into blood. This vision was followed, in the next few weeks, by dreams of eternal winters and rivers of blood. He was afraid that he was becoming psychotic.
But on August 1 of that year, World War I began. Jung felt that there had been a connection, somehow, between himself as an individual and humanity in general that could not be explained away. From then until 1928, he was to go through a rather painful process of self-exploration that formed the basis of all of his later theorizing.
He carefully recorded his dreams, fantasies, and visions, and drew, painted, and sculpted them as well. He found that his experiences tended to form themselves into persons, beginning with a wise old man and his companion, a little girl. The wise old man evolved, over a number of dreams, into a sort of spiritual guru. The little girl became "anima," the feminine soul, who served as his main medium of communication with the deeper aspects of his unconscious.
A leathery brown dwarf would show up guarding the entrance to the unconscious. He was "the shadow," a primitive companion for Jung's ego. Jung dreamt that he and the dwarf killed a beautiful blond youth, whom he called Siegfried. For Jung, this represented a warning about the dangers of the worship of glory and heroism which would soon cause so much sorrow all over Europe -- and a warning about the dangers of some of his own tendencies towards hero-worship, of Sigmund Freud!
Jung dreamt a great deal about the dead, the land of the dead, and the rising of the dead. These represented the unconscious itself -- not the "little" personal unconscious that Freud made such a big deal out of, but a new collective unconscious of humanity itself, an unconscious that could contain all the dead, not just our personal ghosts. Jung began to see the mentally ill as people who are haunted by these ghosts, in an age where no-one is supposed to even believe in them. If we could only recapture our mythologies, we would understand these ghosts, become comfortable with the dead, and heal our mental illnesses.
Critics suggested that Jung was, very simply, ill himself when all this happened. But Jung felt that, if you want to understand the jungle, you can't be content just to sail back and forth near the shore. You've got to get into it, no matter how strange and frightening it might seem.
Master Birra is strangely silent?
some can lucid dream...I dream in colour and recently they are frequent and fun...
Get tired and as you slip away hold a thought...
its amazing what one can do and it makes Xbox 360 graphics seem like childs play...
Oooo the things I have done...
for me- recurring dreams are a way of me seeing what has happened in past life or is going to happen in this life or is just something i want to happen so it does in my dreams but mainly of past lives and future.
pay attention and write as much as you can
The Freudian approach of dreams is that they occur from accumulated frustrations and prohibited desires of the past.
More recent approaches, however, point out that dreams are simply things that preoccupy and make us worry more than other things that are on our minds.
If there is something - anything - that is concerning you at a high degree at the moment, those recurring dreams might be the illustration and symbols that your subconscious gives to your problems.
Some might say they are premonitory dreams, but in my opinion, especially as you said you hardly ever remembered dreams, they are only the reflection of a current issue you are facing.
i had a reacuring dream when i was 6 and at the time i was going thro alot so it might have been that.
perhaps stress leads to recurring dreams since you want a nescape from reality
(only an opinion)
all i can say is from my experience and from what ive read, it depends on the context of the dream to you. it could be a metaphorical representation of a desire, a fear etc etc. it could also mean nothing.
i feel for me that recurriong dreams happen mostly when im lucid dreaming. and i dont have as much experience with it as i like to say i do but its usually the exact same dream every time for me, lol.
well i should say that what i should include that i wake up at the exact same time for like two or three weeks ago. because, ill turrn around right after i look at the digital clock and look again and its like 4 or 5hrs later.
i think they are the past haunting you or the future warning you
I believe that when you dream like that, that you are being told something.. And I dont believe that you can look it up in a book to find out what its meaning is.. I think it is all within and that only through foucusing on your dream and figuring it out for yourself you WIll know what it means.. Just dig deep.. And if you dont figure it out.. You will have it again..
ive been having a reoccuring dream where im in an alley and a gang pins me to a wall by my hands and feet with knives and shoot me, cut me, cut off body parts,etc... and i always wake up crying and shaking
I have been having this dream that is always the same but never can see the face of the person until just about 5 days ago I came across this man that for some reason his face looked really familiar then my dreams set me back to the 1700 along with me seeing his face, and we were in love.
Still confused after many years.
From my view, a recurring dream could have a few meanings:
If something that has happened in your life time, perhaps it's something that still hangs over like you like a shadow- something you have not made peace with yourself for.
If not something that has happened, it could either be a future you desire for yourself or something that may happen later in your life. It doesn't always happen that way but it sometimes does.
reoccurring dreams can mean many things. they can be caused by trauma or stress, or they can be warnings for the future. if you cant stand the dream try to change something while your dreaming. it worked on one of mine haven't had it since. i probably pissed it off not letting it kill me any more, but oh well.
It could be that whatever you are dreaming of is important to you, holds great value, or is some kind of problem that you are dealing with...
Like dreaming about taking a test in your underwear?
Same matter.
Dream are prophetic and/or they are trying to tell you something. I would recommend writing down every detail of your dream in a dream diary. They come in handy and when I do this on a dream that is bugging me or seems a little too real the message of the dream shows itself to you and you know why you had the dream.
I've had recurring dreams sice approximately age 4.Not exactly pleasant, when you've suffered night terrors. One recurring dream which I had @ least a few times a week during childhood still happens once or twice a month. We lived on a street with a funeral parlor on the corner. For some reason,I'd always dream the corner on the opposite end of the block was the entrance to hell&I had to make it to the other end of the block to the funeral home to be safe!Sometimes,I made it.Sometimes,I didn't.in the dreams where I reached the funeral home,I'd hid in the basement along with several others, shaking in fear&praying not to be discovered. Then I'd awaken. In the dreams where I didn't make it,either I'd be trampled by the others seeking safety,or I'd have that horrific sense of runnoing in slow motion. In both instances,I'd scream for help as my back begin to feel as if it was burning as a giant hand grabbed me from behind.I'd sometimes awaken screaming, which scared the hell out of my mom...what?I never said I was a SANE child!...Sanity's overrated...
Your dream is possibly trying to tell you something. or it could be that you are trying to work out a problem that you have going on in your life during your waking hours.
Unless you've had a brain transplant, It is a safe bet you will have reoccuring dreams in your life time. You are working with the same memories of reallity and dreams, so naturally they will replay in your mind. I don't claim to be a dream/sleep expert, but this answer just seems logical.
Dreams are usually influenced by what you see or thought about before you fell sleep. But, recurring dreams are special because the dream repeats. Or maybe sometimes it repeats but certain things are different... When it repeats you're unconscious mind is trying to tell you something.
Things that stand out to you in your dreams are symbolic and you need to interpret them to find the message. I use a dreambook and it's strange because if three things stand out to me the definitions are somehow connected. I suggest you write down your dreams after you wake up and interpret them when you can. If it's significant enough to look into then why not.
Dreams can be of many things, the mind often when dealing with a certain situation in life will create a dream, a series of incidents or actions each representing something other than it is. We see the dream much differently than our mind does. It could be that there is a pressing matter in your life right now that your mind is trying to sort out. I also believe dreams can be a warning of sorts, a certain sense we have that often we do not tap into. The dream could be a warning of something coming in your future.
I tend to believe that reoccuring dreams are a manifestation of our fears. Take me for example, I have a reoccuring dream about drowning, and have since I was five. Now because of it, I am afraid of bodies of water larger than a pool. (Although there have been a few close calls with pools.)
I think a recurring dream is a way for your subconscious to try and pass something onto your conscious mind. I myself had recurring dreams of being a wolf and was guided by my spirit animal. This helped me to discover my true self, which is Lycan.
Yep... your subconscious mind is trying to either warn you, forewarn you or tell you something. I've had a lot of premonitions in my dreams.. especially about my little sister. They all came true. You may send me a private message to discuss this further if you wish. I am wondering what your dream was about.
This will depend on religious views...
Some people feel that reoccurring dreams mean that something or someone is trying to pass something to you... whether it be a message or a warning or maybe just information... Some just feel that you think about the dream before you sleep... if you mean to or not and trick your body into having the same one.
its already been stated well, but ill repeat it.
might be the subconscious trying to work thru something.
might just be something symbolic in your life.
might be a message from beyond (i know it sounds silly, but you know what im sayin)
might be a memory from a past life. (i have some repeating dreams that i strongly feel fall into that category)
when i was a kid, i drempt the frankenstein monster was following me. id dream it every few weeks and it was really terrifying to me. he never moved quickly...just steadily. i could ride my bike as hard and fast as i liked, but as soon as id feel at ease, id see him show up again.
these dreams finally ended when in the dream i finally got angry and attacked him. in the dream i actually destroyed the monster, and the dream never returned.
i always thought it meant i needed to face my troubles rather than flee them.
~W~
oh true...
past lives... i didn't think about that
good point
I agree with Wolf not all reoccurring dreams but some of them may be past lives
I have dreams that come true alll the time. Especially about my little sister. YEAH.. IM REPOSTING THIS SINcE SOMEONE SO RUDELY DELETED MY POST.
Anway, yes, I have dreams that come true all the time. I predicted that my grandmother would die on March 15th 2000. I got the tattoo on my left arm to prove the date. I had a dream that my little sister got in a white four door car with a bunch of spanish guys and she got beat up during a gang initiation.. of course, with that dream, it had already happened. I called her at 5am and she told me that the night before.. most likely while having the dream, that it had happened to her. I've had many other dreams about my sister.. bad ones, that have come true.
The funniest thing about it...
When we were young, like 6, 7, 8.. We BOTH used to have the same recurring dreams of being sucked up by the vaccuum cleaner!
the oddest thing to report is that ive discovered that a few people seem to share some of my recurring dreams.
~W~
Would you like to tell us about your recurring dreams LW? I would like to hear them.
Myrrhkuri, I am not an expert on dreams but I would suggest that you write the dreams that you remember in a journal or something. Everyone is right with all that they have said. Dreams can be something from a past life, childhood memories, or something that is going on now within your life. I have found from past experiences that once a dream is written down that you are able to look at the dream from a different stand point and possibly be able to draw a conclusion on what the dream means. It is possible that the dream has no meaning at all.
Yeah I get them a lot. Creaps me out a bit when it happens too. So I guess you could say my recurring dreams are like visions. And hounistly it is confuseing the hell out of me.
sexy
they are actually very personal, but i dream im in ancient egypt. im a priest in a temple.
its convoluted and alot happens, but for the longest time it really disturbed me.
and also for the longest time, i had just slightly less than zero interest in egypt
~W~
Dreams are just you brain dealing with leftover things.
yeah ive heard that as well....
but ive had dreams of actual events before they happend...only did it twice in my life, but it was enough to make me reconsider my cut and dried world.
what is the left over stuff that keeps repeating in great detail?
~W~
hmmm...ive been thinking about this...i often have recurring dreams.
there are three different ones:
im picking up and carrying lots of toddlers and running to hide from soldiers;
im lying down and hooded, cloaked figures are standing over me
im on the top of a cliff at a beach, needing to get down the tiny steps
none of these are things ive done, or imagine myself doing ever. there is no particular order as to when i have them, and they dont ever deviate from the way that they each happen. all these dreams have been happening for years. i can never see myself in these dreams, nor anyone i know in real life, although the people in them are always known to me.
past lives? i dont know but i do wonder why they are so exact when i dream them
LW - Maybe something about Egypt has to do with a certain part of your life that you may regret? Or maybe it is telling you that you need to pay more attention to certain things in your life. That would be what I think that means.
Have you ever loved and lost?
have i ever loved and lost?
yes sexy, i have many times.
and each time has been very painful.
but i dont get egypt from that.
~W~
