I have an extreme love of music of all types from hard dance to classical and concider myself to ba a vampire . I have been told i am not the sterotypical goth that i should be . Has enyone else encountered this small mindedness tc

A goth and a vampire are two different things.

The fact that the gothic scene is compared to the vampiric scene is cause of the dark clothes,make-up and all of those who label themselves as goths and go to tell everyone:Hi am a goth and a vampire and I am 1000 years old.

It's cause of people of this kind that both of the scenes are misunderstood and ridiculed.

And gothic is not about music and dark clothes only.

But this is something that can't be stopped we had our label now and it's not going to change.

Also I wouldn't tell anyone I am a vampire unless they are really trustable considering all the silly stereotypes I would get.

In parallel to that, you can;t do the same thing to yourself. Its not what you are, its who you are.

gothic isnt just about clothes or things like that its about emotion and feelings but that doesn mean that all goths are depresed 24/7

Grrrrness to the goth stereotype.....Where is this book that pertains that as a Goth...I must wear black.....I must listen to mind numbing music all the time....I must be suicidle and want to become a vampire or Zombie....

As already stated being a Goth is so much more than music and clothes.

being a goth is all about the emotion of it, because my hair isn't black and i don't wear black ALL the time does that mean i'm not a goth NO it absolutely does not, I hate steriotypes they piss me off

I am a psychic vampire, and I listen to a very wide variety of music. I also don't dress all in black.

Being a vampire has nothing to do with being goth. They are sompletely unrelated. The fact that a lot of vampires are goth merely has to do with the fact that they enjoy a darker lifestyle, perhaps?

Good music is in the ear of the beholder!!! what you like is what you like vampire or not....

I listen to all types of music, to appreciate one type you must appreciate all. I hate lables, I have been labeled as something most of my life and mostly because of the music I would listen to or the way that I would dress. I dont believe in labels at all. Listen to what you want and dress the way you want to. Who cares what anyone else thinks..

I don't claim to be a vampire, more like a person who tries to study and understand more than anything else, to get past all this. The stories, the histories, the ideas and beliefs. It's all very interesting to me. Now, I do like the stereotypical vampire better, though I think that's just more my preference of what I'm looking for in a love than anything else. I suredly dont expect all vampires to be like that and I find it rather interesting just how different they actually are. *Smirks a bit* I bet I just got a lot of people to hate me with this post.

I have. Of course, I don't consider myself to be goth(altho it's fun to dress up like one at times) or a vampire but I'm still interested in both subcultures. Stop by my profile and take a look at the solo artists and bands I listen to...I definitely don't fit the stereotype, lol!

well, the fact that your being stereotyped is the first thing wrong. cuz a stereo type is a generalization or just an image of what they WANT u to be...so, u can be w/e u want and still classify yourself as what ever you want

well I am Gothic and I am a Vampire, but I am not one because of the other, I am gothic bc I love the culture and lifestyle, also I enjoy it, it makes me feel as if i am more one with the night, But being gothic does not make me a Vampire, my parents are both Vampires and they are not gothic, but they are fine with me being that, way, well idk im gunna shut up now, but yeah , u get it

i dont put myself under a label, other people label me, i say im a vampire because i am one...if i dress in cut off shorts, cowboy boots, an a tan buttion down shirt with red flowers all over it, guess what? im still a vampire. its who i am. An now for the music part it dosent matter what music i listen to, im still a vampire! I actully listen to all kinds, i love the band HIM, but i also listen to classical, an have a guilty pleasure for some 80's rock

Goth is a life style... Vampirism is more personal to me. But I'm not a Goth I'm me. Some days I wear blue Jeans shorts and a Harley shirt..other days it's a pair of trip pant's w chains and a Cradle of Filth shirt..music hell anything but rap.. I love classical and Japanese artis as well. I wear what I like..and listen to what I like.

Everyone's energy is different, why wouldn't their tastes in music be different as well...

I always got told in school I wasn't a goth, because I would wear blue jeans, and just generaly dress how I wanted too. And I listen to what the hell I want to listen too, I have cd's that I play on the stereo when I am taking a bath, that go from requiems, to slipknot, to marilyn manson to Alice Cooper.

I agree with what most people on here already said, that the two are separate. I too have come across typical stereotypes calling me "goth" just b/c on certain days, I happen to pick out a rock t-shirt that is black, and I match my sneakers to it-that also happen to be black. They look over the fact that my pants are merely blue jeans.
I hate labels b/c usually the people using them, are the ones who think it's only appearance that matters to them, not what they truly mean.

I can listen to pretty much anything! But my soul finds comfort in the heavy side of things! Hence i have AC/DC in my profile! And dare i say its not as heavy as most of the stuff i listen to when i am on VR!

your taste in music is a self expression i say to each their own, i personally don't listen to death metal,, i listen to rock, hard rock etc, and enigma said it very well

to be a goth doesn't mean u are a vampire. yea, goths are interested in vampirea but they are 2 different things

music is universal: everyone listens to it in one form or another..its part of our lives, society, culture

but vampyrism isnt universal..its a condition thats not shared by the whole nor is it widly accepted like music

i saw some one further up ask if vampires can like country? being a vampire is spiritual, you can like Polka an still be a vampire, now that said i cant commint on what a goth is im not one, or at least i dont know if i am one

I believe there is a difference. I have many friends that are goths but not vampires.

So to summarise this all up are you stating that you think one cannot be both a Goth and a Vampire?

the kind of music you listen too does not anything to do with if you are goth or not. people might say that because you may have an appreciation for music that is not normally associated with gith that you are not gothic. i feel this is incorrect many people have different appreciations for different kinds of music and just because you may listen to a music style not associated with goth does not mean you are not goth

Goth is not simply a way to say wot music ur into or how u dress or any other such thing.

A goth can like music of any type of dress any way.
A goth is only a true Goth on the inside.

Marilyn Manson could make a disco song and still it would be Goth as it would still carry his message.

one, im "goth" to what other people say, but im true 2 myself, i dont label... im a "Vampire" and i have been since i was born into this rather tragic world, and music is my life, other than blood, and guys

I try not to label myself.. people will always think what they want no matter what you say so I don't see the point in arugeing with them.

Stereotypes suck. No way around it. I too am into all sorts of music, and I find that music in general is a purely personal thing, social cliques/fetishes/general interests/personality aside.

Music seems to speak to a more inner part of you, past the facade, past how people desire to show themselves. It's completely seperate from any social definition.

And therefor people should leave it alone, and not tell you that in order to be a goth you have to listen to only THIS or or only THAT.
