In my job- i once found such a phenomenom in a coffing from 1934 and it was looking quite real:
From Wikipedia.org:
When the coffin of an alleged vampire was opened, people sometimes found the cadaver in a relatively undecomposed state, which could have been interpreted as the corpse being the equivalent of a well-fed vampire. Another reason to believe that a body is a vampire that has fed on the living is the strange illusion that the hair, nails, and teeth have grown.
It is a well known phenomenon that after death the skin and gums lose fluids and contract, exposing the roots of the hair, nails, and teeth, even teeth that were concealed in the jaw.Folkloric accounts almost universally represent the alleged vampire as having ruddy or dark skin, not the pale skin of vampires in literature and film. In the past, people were often malnourished and therefore thin in life, which could account for the pale skin often referred to. Corpses swell as gases from decomposition accumulate in the torso and blood tries to escape the body. During decomposition blood can often be seen emanating from nose and mouth, which could give the impression that the corpse was a vampire who had been drinking blood. Natural processes of decomposition, absent embalming, tend to darken the skin of a corpse — hence the black, blue, or red complexion of the folkloric vampire. Decomposition also contorts the body into positions other than that which it was laid to rest, adding to the illusion that the corpse has been active after death.
ever heard of such a phenomenom in your location? How was it responsed by public?
I have never heard of this happening before...But I did enjoy the information you have on corpses..alot I didnt know!
I must say, that is very interesting.
What did you say you did for work?, if you tell me you dig up bodies to make a living dead called Frankenstein, well, I don't know what I will say to that.
But a great read, however, other than that I have no input, I'm useless really, sorry.
interesting info, but i have never heard about before in that manner, but i heard about something like it before in egypt...
it sounds like some of it came the the stories told in egypt.....
but i have never seen facts yet, so more info on the subject would be great..
keep it up...;)
Our Family is self-employed as a company wich is working for Undertakers.
Our staff (about 20) can be orderd by them for all kind of work a undertaker is in need of...
want more info?
Just ask.
The thing is, for someone to assume something like that 'these' days when confronted with a decomposing corpse would be a little insane to say the least. Most of us would not assume that blood runs from a corpses mouth because he of course must have been sucking the blood of the living. :)
We know much more about the nature of decomposition now. Besides, most people are not in the position that would call for them to deal with a corpse like that..there are proper channels for that type of thing.

I used to have a book filled with fun stuff like this. I read all about Polidori, Varney, and so on, about people being buried alive only to have others think they're a vampire and kill 'em, digging up cadavers and seeing that the body is not decompositing, and so on.
I wish I knew what happened to that book. :-/
I have heard of bodies being exumed and having hardly any to no decompozition happening.
But I have not heard of anything like this. Thanks for posting, very interesting reading.
Back in the days of old it was said that sucides once burried become vampires.
well its been proven that even after death the body does tend to continue to have several things grow as well as the body making noises and even moving.
just think of how much goes on when your alive...its going to take a bit for your body to actually settle down after your dead
I do not have knowledge of corpses. It is an interested topic though.
Interesting, thanks for the info. I didn't know some of that either.
No sadly I have not. But the information on corpses was great. There was a few things I didn't know. Thanks for the information.
this is some very interesting information. i am going to ask a good friend of mine (which is a mortician) and see if he has heard of anything like this
Actually all the information you provided I did know prior to reading this e-mail. I actually thought it was relatively common knowlege. I frankly think that many of the natural occurences explained by science were in the past explained by the supernatural... later becoming myth and legend. I don't think it stops at the Vampire either but carries over in to every aspect of mythology.

I have heard of this from a friends sister who wanted to become a mortician, and for all I know she could be on this site as well, LOL. The part about the blood is harder to find these. This use to happen 100 to 150 years but is not to common nowadays. Most bodies today, even those that are going to be cremated, are embalmed (where the drain all the fuilds of the body and replaced with a mixture of preserving chemicals). Although it is not require by law everywhere in the United states at least it is often recommend if the viewings/wakes are going open caskit.
i had knowledge of this from my medicine studies.. sometimes we had to see an autopsy... and yes once the pathologist just touched the right nerve and the hand began to move... our bodies take time to die actually.. thats why the process is so long.. and as everyone is different the process is different for everyone..
Also depending on how well the body has been embalmed decompasition would still be building up gases in the body and that alone can cause the body to move, sign ect.
Yes that is true I was only pointing out that the blood around the mouth was not likly to happen often today... again depending on where you live.
I pity the dude inside the coffin.
So much for REST IN PEACE.
@rowantears.. yeah thats right.. here in germany we say "if there are crows calling while a funeral the soul is lost "
similar meaning like" will burn in hell" or "will become a Vampyr"
not like the indian mythology were crows get the souls
yes we have similar legends here too.. but its mostly about black cats...
Poor black cats get a lot of grief for the myths we heap upon them.
Those gasses contracting the body have even caused corpses in the 1700's to sit upright in the coffin after they were dug up and the coffin opened (further lending to the myth of their undead state). I believe there are even some stories about this happening upon rare occasion today when the embalming wasn't completely proper. A corpse sitting up during the funeral or viewing...nice last trick to play eh?
itś a fact that the hair, nails, and teeth grow after dead for some time.
hair and nails grow for just about 2 weeks. that is fact. beliefe me i learned it at the funeral master school
some of the info was scary but cool to actually learn about and thank you for teaching me about it learned alot of info
no i never heard of that. its quite interesting though
your job sounds interesting, an undertaker huh? I wanted to be a cornier(yeah i know spelt wrong) for a long time but i given up on that and am going to be a photographer instead.
i remember helping in a morgue one summer ... i wasn't supposed to even see the bodies... but one was under a sheet and it farted...
i never ran so far in my life. nor so fast.
Never heard of anything even close to the topic. I think the thought of it is nice though
There are a few people that talk about digging up some graves but they got busted before they could open the coffin.
ohh intersting information you got, i hope it have happen for real^^
that is very interesting and I thank you for posting it up here. No, I have never heard of this before but it is certainly good information to know.
Very interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever have to dig up a body.
Hmmmm. Thats not something they teach you in school, very cool. Ill have to give that some thought
Information that everyone should know. Thank you. And no, it's never happened in my area that I know of.
Wow this was a great post, thx very much for starting this thread.
Was really interesting to read!!!
TY for the information!!!
Well i found out new things every day. I knew heard of this before I have to talk to a friend thats all into this shit
I've always wanted to see a decaying coprse from a grave that is well preserved.
I found this very interesting. I have never really thought about it. Thanks for the info.
I think it would be interesting to see something like that. But I have never heard anything about something like that happening where I live. unfortunatley!*sigh*
I just cant seem to wrap my mind around that.. I think I would have to see it for myself..
Never heard of such a thing happening, but im sure its possible, maybe?
Great job finding all the information on it though,...
That is very eerie information, but I can see it happening.. though, I haven't heard of it before, but that had a lot to do with playing into superstition then?
I did not know it could possibly happen in modern times today. Thank you for providing this information to all of us.
I know when you die your hair and fingernials still grow....i have never heard of it happenig for that long....deffinantly some information to think about....great info...
