Today is the first day of summer, a day marking renewal.
Post here any rituals you use to mark this day, what the day means to you, its history, or archaeological research marking its significance.
I open space, and keep my environment down to the bare minimum.
In the summer people are more active.
I stay up all night and star watch, I do this every year that there is a clear sky.
I light a few candles....
burn a little incense....
say a words.....
and when I done....
I drink a Apple Martini!
:)
Yum! I like apple martinis, tart not sweet.
Is there something you say, spread your arms wide, include others or is this solitary?
Wear protective garlands of chase-devil, light a sacred bonfire, invocate spirits of the hours, carnal pleasure and drink until dawn.
Burn a fire from dusk till dawn, Dance on the Heath tearing off tights with my teeth to...' But there no release, no peace... I can't get no sleep...'
For me it is the beginning of "the birthday season" (lol) as I am a summer baby.
It is also hurricane season. It's been unseasonably hot here since the end of March. If it stays this way, we will most likely be hit by a hurricane at least once. (I live in coastal/central nc). The weatherman have predicted a very active hurricane season.
So to me.. this summer is about learning hurricane safety as I've only been down here for about 4 years. I have seen several tropical storms and tropical depressions, but never a hurricane. It will be a new life experience for me as well.
I also feel like summer is a time to "let go". It's the season of fun. So, rest assured, I will be partying and going to the beach and having a great time!! For me, summer is a time to forget about my problems and just have fun. I love taking my son to the beach. My little Pisces Water Baby loves to go swimming just like his mommy!
Bon fire
Casting a circle
close circle

Except for the devil-be-gone, went old school and followed Doru's advice with the help of some one on one:
You know what? I'm kinda getting a little tired of people exaggerating.

That's a far cry from Iraq-like 108 degree weather.

That was amazing!! Were those the Northern Lights?? And where was that filmed?? canada or Alaska maybe? Breathtaking! Beautiful to look at but I bet it's freezing LOL!!!
Beautiful! Love that cut from Enigma. Even w/o the video its always been energizing, celebratory, welcoming.
Yes the south pole does get a aurora, it's called the southern lights or the aurora australis.
Unfortunately, I do not celebrate this day. No time, no desire.
Summer solstice had always been one of my favorite to celebrate, but since my cousin being killed in iraq on this day it has turned more into a sad memory, But this year, I did cast a circle and and give thanks.
