ok. I always hear stories around my area about skin walkers. everybody gives a completely different description. none of it matches up or is consistant. can someone please clear this up for me?

Clear it up by doing your own research off line every one has their own verisons of skinwalkers.The most common is the native american shaman If you go to your local libary or the local occult shop read about them.

are they not mostly in forms of wolves?

i am still learning about it too....but from what i have read about it.....most are in forms of animals.....mostly wolves....

Many myths on this, but they all originate from the same point. native american folk lore. Look it up this is coming up more with the release of the new movie coming out.

Lore is a person who may transform into part wolf and keep the traits of a human. A shapshifter in other words. Can't wait to see the movie. Hollywood always throws something in that is not in lore. but should be good.

they can change into another person....but i do not think a skin walker can from what i have read about it....

I thought that skin walkers always meant werebeast like someone else has already mentioned, they can only turn into one animal and it is usually not by choice.

I know alot about shapeshifters. (werebeasts) They are human at first but usually have some type of etheric animal body along with their human. They arn't able to turn into other humans. But thats just about shifters. Skinwalkers in what I have read are the ones who dress up as the animal, their shamans and they put on the animals skin to more connect to the animal.

It is entirely different from a shapeshifter.

I was also thinking werewolf. I can't wait until the 10th....i'm really excited...

They are supposed to be people who have attained the power to change shapes, into animals. I believe they can choose which animal for whichever purpose. It is said that the person has to do something evil to become one. It's like a punishment, as I recall. I could be wrong.

Generally the term skin walker means either a shape shifter who can walk about as if they are in the skin of another creature. Or else it could be a spirit that posesses a living peron's body, also called skin rider.

Okay, just two things really quickly.

1) I take a little offense to our beliefs being attributed to "Lore" and "Legend". Have some respect. Just because it's not mainstream enough doesn't mean it's not a religion. So please, in the future "Beliefs" and "Religion" are great substitutes.

2) There's more to skinwalkers than shapeshifting. They are basically the polar opposite of the "Medicine Man". Performing evil magic and the like. Yes, they are said to be able to take the forms of certain animals (it varies depending on the tribe), but in many cases it is said that this is a way in which it will find and take victims, usually small children, in order to perform said magic and/or take their form and strength.

In response many use legend or lore for it is writing as a fable with little or no fact religion is a take on it. I shall give you that, like many I would like to see the spot where you found out it was for magic use of victims. Not trying to be offensive yet many people have their right to say what they may feel.
Shapshifters or transforming to skinwalkers is what many accounts say. Sorry if I offended any one.

My issue is in that with some religions, people use lore or myth, but for ones like the Big Three (Christianity, Islam, Judaism), their stories are not given these titles, and thus are seemed to be given a more respected consideration.

As for where I found it: Growing up on a rez you hear a lot of stories. Especially with a very traditional grandmother.

I've heard that a skin walker is a demon with no skin.One that can come appon earth and take someone elses skin and pose at that human,untill it has a need to take another skin.thats why they are called skin walkers.

I heard that they can change into any animal they wise. I havent really looked to far into it but guess everyone has their own ideas into wat skin walkers are and can do.

The past miscontrues too many objects for the future. Especially when you are using it in reference. Hear say is too commonly used to actually say what form they truely take. One can only believe their own eyes. And even sometimes, not then.

Do I believe Skinwalkers exist? Yes, I do. As well as many other things. That science can't prove but doesn't mean they don't exist. But then again, I really don't care for science. It's always trying to come up with reasons why certain things do or don't exist and a bunch of other crap. There's more to my point but I really don't want to rant.
