After all has happened to the world toward the end of the last decade and, the beginning of this, one must ask: “Is the moons distance from the earth having an effect on our Earth? Was Nostradamus right about the end of the world, as we know it? Or, perhaps, finally the missiles we have tested under the sea have finally taken their toll?”
Sometimes it feels that way, what with the recent events in Japan (I won't even to begin to mention all the constant wars). So much chaos on one small planet, would our demise be of any great consequence to nature as most people choose to see it? Maybe not. Yet the world has survived for millions of years without us, we don't even register as a blip in the history of the cosmos. Eventually we will disappear and time will not mourn our departure, as with all things, the Universe will continue to evolve and grow. Our role, if we have one, in it's evolution will remain a mystery and a very small one. In the great plan of time, we are not as important as we may think. As with all talk of time and disaster I try to remain positive, this wasn't supposed to be such a negative post.
i suspect that human kinds wars and such have very very little effect on this planet. with all of our weapons, we still cannot duplicate the violence of a single krackatoa eruption.
when people go off about how much better off the planet would be without us on it, i tend to want to inform the person with the opinion that they are free to begin to alleviate the problem by self elimination....
yet so far even tho ive mentioned this to a goodly number of people that seem to think humankind is a plague upon the world, ive yet to see one of the holders of this opinion remove themselves from the face of the planet.
i fear they dont hold the courage of their convictions.
lol
~W~
What a subject Angelus!
Whether it is or isnt, the world as we knew it has changed.
Bigtime.
Humanity has and forever will evolve.
Reason for wars, my opinon, Religion or Power/Land/Money.
As far as the end being near, I dont see it in the near, or for that matter, the distant future.
with this last quake actually moving the planets axis by centimeters it musy beg this and other questions (for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction) what will be the result of all this chaos? will we become closer as a world as people or will it only work to further drive apart countries and races...disaster on such a scale .. hopefully it makes a lot of important people stop and actuallly think before acting wether towards good or for naught ..live always as if youll die tomorrow dream as if you'll live forever
I will tell my believe. No, this is not the end, but the beginning of the deformation of mother earth. Through life, Humans has been pounding into our soil, water and air, every little crap that they can create, and when something happen, some one will say that is a Biblical phenomenal. Wow. Like I said, a lot of more will happen. Be ready.
I was stunned to learn that there’s been an explosion at the reactor: with all the implications that could possibly mean.
And yes, I do think as mentioned earlier, that we are a plague.. but remove myself. Huh? Why?
Tomorrow may be better. I'd like to think...
But, if the Earth was moved off it's axis, just a little..
Sheesh.
I saw just a bit ago that there is a chance of the nuclear reactor melting down due to the explosion and steps that were taken during the actual quake. I shudder to think of the implications this could have for the world....
i think it is all caused by to much methane in the atmosphere that has ocurred as a result of the earth's population farting
since we are discussing the end of the world....
I am forced to remind us all of the Mayan Prophecy of 2012....
the mayans believed that the time leading up to Dec 21, 2012 (aka the end of the age) will be a time of crisis.
natural and man-made tragedies will appear frequently.... exactly what will unfold is unclear.
but eventually the crisis will end, and the next age will begin.... leading us into new golden age.
it has happened before....
it will happen again.
and in each age.... People will survive.
but the world that we know... and have known..... will change.
hopefully for the better.
I don't think the world will change for the better. Think a world were the most important resources are scarce. IE, water and food. Yes, we are the creator of this new world and like you said, is possible to happen as an early day.
nope its not the end besides they have now fossilized remains of unknown lifeforms and similiar lifeforms of earth in the remains of an asteriod...so apparently life goes on even if its not here on earth besides i thought that the mayan 2012 thing if set and adjusted to our gregorian calendar happened three years ago already on ours and we still here and all of edgar cayce's and nostrodamus's predictions havent come true either and have passed us by......besides I predict we will be around for a very longtime...the aliens that set us up here want to see how it all turns out for us :P anyway we are coming off of the end of an ice age and there is always massive change when that happens or so i am told by the "scientists" :D
My opinion that Big Moon only is the incidence in between the nature's happening. Big Moon can not impact that much. Coz Earth's gravitational force is much more larger than the impact of big moon thought.
Big moon can cause high tides but can not impact on tectonic plates and nor can cause tsunami. even it can not impact on earth's soil too... it can impact on water and air cause they are thinner elements but not to that force.
End is superstition. coz everywhere in the world something happens which destroys units or individuals. this does not mean the end of the species.
You can see the google map that will reveal how the volcanos and earthquake or tsunami can cause. even think of those submerced cities which had the larger impact from current events. still the world is prevailing.
tectonic shifting is not a surprise and its usual that it will even in future somewhere will cause the destruction. Human should develop to that extent ignoring differences and prejudices.
What makes me wonder is why they didn't see this coming? With all their technology and analysts, tracking, analyzing, and interpreting every possible threat of nature (Japan being a country where earth quakes are frequent).. Why didn't they notice something this big coming their way?
They are saying now within 3 days there is a 70% chance another earth quake will hit them with a force of 7 on the scale of Richter..
But why didn't they know about the first one or at least warn people (if they knew)?
population control........they were overpopulated.....
I just see human folly exemplified: I see Easter Island, all over again...
Not until the falling star me thinkst, however an update on the crust.
The ring of fire is unstable, Hawaii has opened up another vent and the floor has collapsed releasing more magma.
This pushes pressure on the rims of the Pacific plate where the plates subduct under various countries.
Chili , New Zealand and Japan have realsied this and yet LA ,San Fran, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland remain largely ignorant. I think a 9.4 larger than Japan is brewing and L.A's mayors "blacknberry is unlikelty to be of anyt assistance. I think it unwise to send all our ships to far flung continents?
Maybe it's not the end, but a brand new beginning. Maybe this is way it is supposed to happen for the next generation to find their way and place in the world. No it isn't pleasant, but nothing worth while ever is.
As the news keeps with violent weather one seems to ponder that myths
Might be right that the end is near. Yet is it the earth moving further away or is it just freak storms triggering mass panic in those who believe the end of days prophecies. I shall sit and watch to see if the world is going to shed humanity from it's skin like the virus some claim we are.
I sat and watched the news with my Dad, with the news of Japan and, The Middle East and all that’s happening there, and then he told me that amongst all else that has happened, the Earth’s axis has changed by ten inches. No, to me that sounded like a lot, so I asked, “Where did you read that?”
And, sure enough, in a small article in Mondays Metro was an article saying as such. Now, that will affect us all, that is, if there is an ‘us all’, if there’s further explosions and, we’re all irradiated.
‘Just a passing thought.’
Alright, so we have picketing in Britain with the Muslim's, we have wars in Egypt and the surrounding territories, we have Tsunami's in Hawaii, warnings in Oregon... Earthquakes in Japan, Volcanic activity in Japan and the surrounding continents, Earthquakes in New Zealand and Australia... we are about to have the first of several "ring of fire" events.
Dogs and cats living together... I am just waiting on a Holy War when the Dome of the Rock is disputed over, and the Temple of Solomon is rebuilt in its place. I am calling it NOW!
There is about to be a huge awakening within the next two years, plus first contact... I would say "try to be prepared", but considering the circumstances... I doubt this kind of thing can be prepared for.
a third explosion today and nuclear power is being looked at again.. so maybe there's some comfort for a future... ?
the reactors cores are melting along with damage to the containment buildings
and now as they check the wind to see which way the radiation will blow, it snows.
i heard that the reactor blew up, but the news wouldn't say why. They danced around the question, but either they suspect foul play or their sources are lazy. Then again, this is the station that thinks someone surviving a lightning strike is more interesting or important than what's going on over in japan... anyway..
It made me laugh when Obama promised that he 'will not let radiation touch California'. i wonder what his plan for that is, perhaps to stand on the coast with a staff and shout 'you shall not pass!'?
California is 5000 miles away from japan, and not even chernobyl was that bad. If radiation does touch us, i doubt it'll be harsh enough to notice. From what i heard they already have the reactors under control, or are starting to.
hell we got irradiated sheep from chernobyl. love to know how someone in america [[anyone]] tinks they could stop radiation spreading from Japan...
the fact is that if this crisis passes a certain point there will be nothing that can be done ...just educate people on how to stay alive in a radioactive crisis....doesnt this make you appreciate the life any of us has at the moment? because right now this minute you have food ...water...electricity...internet... i say this because honestly it makes me appreciate the loved ones im lucky to be with 10.000 suspected dead...brothers ..sisters ..mothers ..aunts ..uncles..sons ...daughters...wiped out in an instant there is no greater pain than losing someone you love they are going through a living hell right now...we discuss this...but does anyone actually help in some way? i apologise if my words offend anyone ..but sometimes things need to be said
The Japanese nuclear problem is a product of faulty design that occurred decades ago when the moon was far away. If the backup generators had not been knocked out by the tsunami, there would not be any material problem.
For a scientific explanation of most of this, a good place to start is the Scientific American website. Sadly, people who don't take the time to learn about how nuclear reactors work (and how newer designs are safer) will now oppose the construction of newer, safer reactors. So the world can continue to burn more fossil fuels and speed global warning.
As for the Mayans, if they were indeed prescient, it seems odd that they allowed their own civilization to be conquered by the Spanish. Look not to the Mayans. Look instead to the obvious, understandable political and scientific causes of what's been happening. It all makes sense if you take the time to learn about the underlying causes.
well said Sir those who dont take time to learn and expand on their knowledge are in effect ignorant..of the true fact..which in turn causes wrong political action to be taken...as for the mayans to that i say this earth is millions of years old and probably be here millions more..as to whether or not humans will be here ..thats always a question...noone can tell the future not really
Libid Luke, quite right this is not the same as Chernobyl where the reactor had not been shut down.
The documentary on the subject is a goody and shows how all the European governments and Moscow lied to the fellow man...
When the reactor melted down it was in danger of dropping into a massive pool of water under the reactor.
(this was a major design flaw)
The white hot uranium burned through the concrete shell and was twenty minutes from dropping into the Poool when the finally managed to drop enough carbon/boron and concrete on it to cool it down.
IF IT HAD FALLEN- it would have instantly vapourised the water into a huge cloud of hydrogen and oxygen...now this is their words not mine
"Half of Europe" would have gone up in a blkinding flash.
Fortunately we can trust our designers Haliburton, Tokyp electric etc not to take short cuts on safety nowadays.
Read this its hilarious...NOT!

... my Japanese penfriend and parents are safe.
It seems South Japan did better than the North.
Yet, I keep seeing earthquakes reported, worse weather and... So I wonder, "why should Mother Nature have mercy on us, for all we have done to her... ?"
Well you know the moon is coming into perigee soon...two days from now and it will also be a full moon. There is an interesting article entitled, "2011 Dates of Destruction? March 19, May 21, Oct. 21."
Read what one man thought about it here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110311/sc_ac/8035510_2011_dates_of_destruction_march_19_may_21_oct21_1
I had read this and then the tsunamis arrived and went...huh? It wasn't that I didn't take him seriously because he is serious, the author of the article, but you know many predictions are made that never happen. He doesn't say it is the end of the world but that there will be various actions of nature on the earth that are not exactly too nice. People forget that New Zealand had their own tragedy in Christschurch. There were some things in N. California as well. The worst of course Japan and there have been others recently just prior to this. I hope people are listening. Something is off I think but not sure what. I am not a doomsday person, so I don't believe it is that, but Gaia is sure acting up a lot lately.
Anything neglected and abused will eventually fail.
Since the dawn of the Industrial Age it was obvious that sooner or later the earth would suffer from a greedy humanity that wants MORE now and doesn't care where it gets it's resources to do so.
Whenever it ends...it won't end well.
I think the end is closer now more than ever. but I don't think it's anything that could be foretold, Our damage to the planet is causing changes, it in itself, constantly changing. As civilizations before us have perished, surely we will too.
end of the world? no, maybe the end towards some particular ways of life, perhaps religion might actually be gone with (willingly) and rational thought can be taken into account, perhaps that is just my thoughts and theories though
Astrologically the Moon symbolises the reverse of our birth(Sun) sign. It's the opposite of what our birthsign gives us as far as personality. Remember though, no matter your sign you still have free will in all things.
whenever there is a disaster there is always thoughts of the end..you cant help but thinki about it...no i dont feel the world will end but i do agree a way of life may hang in the balance...
... we have free will. But does She, Mother Earth?
IF she does, then maybe, she's wanting to shake herself free of these flea's called humanity, who do Her so much harm?
I don't want to make unsubstantiated judgments, or spread fear. The Earth does what it does, and I do not believe human life will end, unless we do something cataclysmic like a massive Nuclear War, or continue to pollute at massive levels
Fear is the state that this planet is in! WE, meaning all of us have played a part in it. whether it's spreading it or doing nothing to stop it! Mother Earth is going to do what she does best regardless. take it with a grain of salt. live up to your faults and shortcomings, learn from it and evolve. Because Mother Earth is going to live on with or without you.
learn from it and evolve?
if man had evolved, there's be no religion, or War, or the perpetual destruction we wring on this planet...
firing 'test' nuclear missiles into the sea bed.. then wiondering why there's ramifications.
Well what I meant from evolve relates to the mayan calendar of 2012! Which i'm sure you heard of lol. What i'm saying is now would be a good time to work on self- development and self actualization to get rid of fears and shortcomings to as not to hold you back on the evolutionary scheme of things.
I agree with HAWK 100%.
Although there is some speculation on the Mayans off setting there calendar by 10 years. There is no coincidence on what they predicted, because others like them, predicted the same thing.
Yes, we fumble around in the dark prodding things we do not understand in a careless manner, what if Ghia has a neural net of dark energy, indeed...what if the Glalaxy has formed a neural net to prolong its own existence? After all the stars, planets and moons all ineratct with one another electromagnetically.
AN, that is very true. one thing explodes, it causes a reaction...
for every action there's a reaction....forgot who said that

We are the problem. Me made the problem worse and by our manifest existence will bring forth our end.
unless... we see... and, it seems we choose not to.
The end of the world as we know it...however Nostradamus' predictions continue onward another 500+ years after the "Fall of the New City" so well planned and orchestrated according to prophecies of old.
The nuclear reactor is a major concern but more so because major crops have already failed this year in our country alone...if the radiation of Japan's nuclear power plant are not contained and worse comes to worse...it will follow the air stream straight to our western shores just as previous war campaigns brought helium balloons equipped with bombs that many, still to this day are undiscovered ordinance in the mountainous terrain of Oregon and Washington.
The end of an age is coming and changes are always present in the landscape of this planet...always have been...nothing new under the sun. As sad as it the events of this world may seem...yet even now..as I type this...I beleive our worst chaos to erupt yet will be found in the ultimate Blackout from solar explosions on our sun...anyone care to picture what an airplane, a car, a train, everyone's medical records...the grocery and gas checkout will turn into if all things digital goes on a permanent vacation?
The problem with hi-tech is keeping the simple things from destroying what makes life in our modern world so livable. The sad fact is that the more I see Walmart and Target dispense "easy-kits" to replace sewing, crafting, or just plain outstanding ingenuity of "figuring it out on my own"...the more I see highly advanced people turning into H.G. Wells' divided tribes of Morlocks and the Eloi they feed off of like lambs to the slaughter...even too stupid to realize what a book is anymore...in a sense...the age of the Eloi is already here...;)
Question is ...how many of us will have the sense to remember what a library is for...much less maintain basic skills to survive without the Morlocks feeding and breeding their sheep to pluck the choicest meals from the flock?
i wonder if the world itself will shatter and explode if will most if not all life be merely destroyed, the latter has the appeal of being a fresh start.
Thank you, i had a brain fart.
Can anyone find evidince of the calander being offset by 10 years?
This may seem odd, but sense i was 8 years old, i said i'd die when im 23.
oddly, it will be 2012.
so, does this mean children know more then adults, and can't share the secrets. All i remember is saying " Mommy, i will die when im 23, and i cant tell you why "
I believe the human race is very young and there are things that we cannot yet comprehend including solar events that effect behavioral patterns amongst the population, and the earths structure it. We know the earth has constantly been changing and the plates have always been on a slow move. We have to expect that occasional evolution even within the earth itself will take place and growing pains in the form of earthquakes will exhibit themselves. Do I personally feel the change is going to be significant and sudden? No I believe changes will take place, but they will be slow and over the course of several generations. As a race we will learn to cope with the changes both here and in the solar system. Perhaps we are just seeing something that has already taken place, but long before our existence.
a surface wipe out is just what this world needs as evolution and life can start again but without the corruption of man and technology. just nature, free will and chaos. if the maggots know as humans survive, i hope they will be smart enough to take it as a second chance and learn to live with turn the world grey again.
turn the world 'grey'??
I did like the illustrations on how we're sl;owly redining the word stupid, by using technology that precludes understanding.. ie: stick it, instead of sew it.
throw away, instead of save...
but as to the plates moving slowly??
sheesh, how much help have we given them, by testing atomic weapon after another, often waaay to near a fault line?
sorry, i rushed when i typed that, i meant "without" turning the world grey, as you this world is mostly concrete these days. bloody typos.
did it again! i forgot "know"
too tired to focus these days.
with so many nukes around and and power plants, its quite easy to destroy the world. a few earthquakes or meltdowns, World war or if weapons are computer dependent then maybe a virus. solar flares, meteor and last but not least, floods.
if the world still has an atmosphere and somewhat clean water and forests after an apocalypse, then a fresh start can ensue...as long as the next intelligent life or human survivors don't repeat their mistakes.
mistakes will always happen, look at the mayans, there so smart, yet there gone....
There are simply too many of us here. The balance is off.
People are living longer, eating more, and using up resources.
But fear not.
The latest computer models predict a very rapid decline in the Human population in this next decade. Believe it or not, the world population explosion has peaked and is now on its way down due to over-crowding and personal choices made by parents not wanting more than one or two children.
There is hope for the human race...but only if we can lessen our impact on the planet.
i dont trust the mayans. If they really had such foresight, they failed horribly to utilize it...
am surprised that anyone might think the population is going down...
Hells teeth... we're an Island and, our resources are finite, yet still 'they' breed....
Can't they learn... any of them?
clearly not which is another cause of the end! over-population and drained resources...this is why we have a food chain but due to human arrogance and their false belief that they are the top of the food chain the natural order is further disrupted. this green and blue world is grey with concrete, its atmosphere filled with smog and exaust fumes.
this world started to die the moment mankind learned to build.
humans are the only animal to step above their station.
i do believe our station is 'plague' in which case i'd say we've done quite well in infecting and destroying. Once resources are gone, we'll just have to eat eachother and build our shelters out of the bones.
The mayans failed to prevent their own demise, that's the one they really needed to worry about. since i didnt get into mayan predictions any farther than 2012, i really dont know what their other predictions were, if you'd like to post here for those of us who are afraid of google, that'd be swell =]
All that you see occuring across the world is nothing new.
Ice ages, asteroid impacts, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic activity, floods, famine, wars, plagues, forest fires, mass extinctions within the food chain...
the list is a long as the Earth is old.
Cities and entire civilizations get wiped out all the time... It sucks no doubt, but believe me folk it's not the end of the world.
still quite something.. that a whole country moves and, the worlds axis shifts, yet... I've read little of the shift since that first mention... almost like THEY are trying to talk it down.
Did you know? they have claculated the force Of the earthquake on a program called Horizon...it was equivalent to 100 million Hiroshima bombs and it slowed the wobbled the spin of the Earth, yet oddly was triggered by a force no greater than a "handshake"...talk about the butterfly effect, lets hope nobody throws a punch.
Thank you Severus...I completely concur...as to the shifting of the Earth's axis Angelus...that is nothing new either.
The large quake in Chile last year did the same thing as Japan's great quake, yet not one ounce or shred of "donate to Chile" came up on the net or elsewhere and why? The effects of that quake and it's subsequent tsunami and flooding was also downplayed...to much...o.O
Aside from that..in reference to this not being new...I believe somewhere in the Old Testament...I recall reading about the day the Sun "stood still" for Joshua as a sign from God that the battle he fought was won...and there are other direct references to the "earth's axis" being moved during the days of the first patriarchs (Adam, Enoch, Noah..all the rest) in the Book of Enoch...a particularly interesting read that was purposely "left out" of the Bible's Old Testament for no other reason I can see except it details many basic scientific, universal facts in an ancient obscure way..but nonetheless accurate and this done so well "before" mankind "re-discovered" the Earth was round.
I think the world is indeed changing, but by no means ending. I don't think the Nostradamus effect or the Mayan 2012 predictions are correct.
I think, if anything, we are what's hurting this world. Our pollution, our strive to erase nature in favor of big buildings and fancy architecture... I think this is what's going wrong in the world.
I think that it's a start of a new, more technologically advanced world and the ending of the old as our great, great grandparents knew it.
the planet wouldn't be able to support an entire tech world since nature is what keeps this world spinning.
as long as man exists, the world will always be in danger. there is some many ways the world can end and most would be caused by humanity, either directly or indirectly.
Silverhawk.. of course you are right... but this was the greatest shift of it yet.
I surmise that all the drilling, the bomb testing etc.. has finally had an effect on the tectonic plates...
You know what? They said that in the seventies the world would end, in 2000 the world will end, in 2010 the world will end, well guess what, we are all still here so what makes you think we are going to see the end of the world in 2012?
Dear who ever's above me, don't forget how we were all supposed to die on 6.6.06.
The more I thought about this the more I move towards a more elaborate idea. We expect the world to end in so many ways, weather patterns, meteorites, earthquakes, or plaques. If we take a close look at history we are simply seeing things that have all happened at some point in history, and yet we still endure. The species continues to live grow and thrive like a virus. Evolution and the life cycle ultimately show that the species will one day fail that a new species can rise up in its place. Will humans cease to exist or will we simply evolve with the changes into a more versatile species? Even science cannot fully answer this question. We can develop theories and predictions, but no one knows the truth now or ever, because we are simply part of a much larger system we cannot understand yet. Any ideas or additions?
i vote human extinction and let a superior predatory species take over....as long as they don't go building reactors and nukes and cities (well not too many)
hunting and feeding is the way to go. if humans stayed to that course they wouldn't be obese and weak.
the food chain, predator and preys is what keeps the world balanced, everything not in natures design seems almost always harm the world.
i ain't totally i against tech, i admire some of humanities achievements. tvs, pcs, electric manipulation. gym equipment. videos.
but factories, cars, nukes and reactors are big no nos.
mankind is more likely to end the world than nature and depending if the world itself dies or simply surface is affected and life on it gets drastically reduced to nearly extinction.
Men would rather fight one another than deal with over population and Earths Easter Island of ever dwindling food and resources.
Twisting and clinging on to vague Religions they swim in Bile,in the vain hope of staying in power,
This the joke for all to witness, we stand idly by. Ghia will not be so idle, she will strike down with great vengeance again and again until those in power weep and pray together for an absolution they will never receive.
well, mebbee she's gettin us Now.
Seems radioactive Iodine has reached Scotland, already...
I agree with Mal in the sense that the increase in cars and fast food chains are slowly killing us off. If more people went back to the old ways, where walking and bikes were the modes of transport for short distances, food was grown or hunted, and children played outside instead of with video games... I think we'd be a lot better off. Cuts out the pollution factor for the most part, at least..
perhaps it's finally too late Banard?
… the Earth has moved 20 cm’s and, the day’s a little shorter.. there’s radioactivity arrived on the wind in Scotland AND Oxfordshire and, that’s good news???
I think that our worls will not end. But it will end as we know it! The earth is rapidly changing. Not everyone will die though but some deaths will be unavoidable. Mankind is contributing to the destruction of themselves here on this planet though.
disaster is never good unless it happens to something bad =P
It's possible that the natural disasters are natures equivalent to an immune system purifying itself by breaking up the virus that is humanity -__- when we live like we are children.
I see how things could get better, but i doubt it will. Because of greed, laziness, and carelessness, we very well may be broken by 2012.
Anyway, as far as Y2K, 2010 and 6/6/06 is concerned...
y2k was people being curious as to how the computers would react to the calender shift and then the masses blowing it up into a crisis. i didnt hear about how we should all die on 2010, but 6/6/06 was a stupid scare that i thoroughly believe people made up out of boredom; a sentiment that is reinforced when you realize that the date was actually 6/6/2006. You have to do a little work to make it satanic, but when you have that kind of delirious motivation... well.. anything's possible.
2012 is the only one that hasnt happened yet, as well as being the only one that wasnt made by stupid people, though to be fair they DID lack the foresight to save their own skins.. but to disregard it completely would be folly.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
You could be completely right; it could be much too late.
But, I think the world needs to rethink itself. Maybe if we change ourselves now, change our ways, we can begin the healing process. If we learned to rely on nature, like solar energy versus nuclear power, the whole radioactive issue wouldn't be there. Things will take decades, possibly centuries to be fixed, but... it needs to start now.
I just hope that we do heed our warnings... though sometimes, I wonder if we will.
I remember learning about the moon when I was in school... Hundreds of years ago the moon looked much bigger because it was so much closer. Every year it gets smaller and smaller because it's moving farther and farther away. The moon controls more than just the tide and oceans. So many animals reproductive cycles also coincide with the moon as do a lot of plants.
How does the moon pertain to this? So what if the animals stop bangin' for a while. :P
No, but on a more serious note, I highly doubt we'll heed the warnings as a human race. We're so ingrained in our ways now that most people think the ways of the past inferior- otherwise there would be more bikes and less Hummers. I don't see that one happening.
It's made so easy for us today. In America, if you opt for solar panels on your roof, you can get the cost of them taken off of your taxes, plus all of the money you save from using them instead of actual electricity... There's bribery there- you get money, plus more money, plus less bills- yet people still won't do it, because we can rely on nuclear power and oil from overseas.
We've screwed this world up so much for the future generations is just 150 years or so.. Imagine in a century what will happen? *shivers*
If animals don't breed it fucks up the food chain. Less animals, less food for the ones that eat them and the ones that eat them and the ones that eat them, all the way up the chain til it reaches humans. Same with plants.... Plants don't reproduce, the animals that eat them starve, all the way up to humans.
I get that, but you sortof came in randomly with that bit, as we were on a bit of a different topic.
I understand perfectly what you're saying. The food chain is important. With that, I make a reference to an earlier post of mine: I feel that we need to go back to hunting and gathering our food. If we do this naturally versus the fast food method, we're much less likely to overeat. Though some animals are a nuisance in areas and need to be removed- like the cane toads here in Florida (evil little things).
This post sortof went off on a tangent, but I'm much too lazy to reword any of it.
Sorry. I had only read the beginning post and the moon was mentioned there so I thought I'd comment on it.
No need for apologies- I just thought you'd read what we were talking about at the time first.
Anyhow, what are your thoughts on pollution and the earth's shifting from the earthquake?
I don't think the pollution is hurting us as badly as everyone thinks it is. A single volcano eruption releases a thousand times more than we could in years. Now, the Earth shifting from earthquakes could cause a major problem. There are quakes popping up where there haven't been in a long time or where they've never been at all. It destroys quite a bit, towns go under so people have to relocate, dozens of people and animals die at a time. That's really just hurting us though, not the Earth. The Earth will do just fine on her own with them just like she always has.
That's a good point. There was an earthquake in Colombia after the Japan quake, which is odd.
Yea... My mom just went through a 5 on the scale in the middle of MO a few weeks ago. Freaked her out.
One day mankind may meet its end,but the world will continue on as it always has.
"By opening this, I hoped to illustrate the fuilities of man and illustrate how we could lead this wonderful world of ours into being another Easter Island, which I do not want..."
[[Apologies for the typo]]
Bah. If mankind dies out, it will come back eventually. The ice age happened, and we still have elephants, which are descendants of the wooly mammoths, tigers, etc.
I doubt man would be wiped out completely and permanently. We'd just adapt all over again. Or relocate to a space ship and be space people. :P
But in all seriousness, I doubt that the human race will fix its ways enough to prevent the eventual death of us all.
Exactly. Too few people actually care. The rest of them think it doesn't matter because, hey, the world isn't going to end in their lifetime. They don't care that someone else will die because of all the crap so long as they die of natural causes before hand.
I don't think the end is coming but something is coming. I feel it everyday. A massive upheaval is going to hit us within the next two years. Nothing will be the same.
If humanity were to end it would be because of our massive pollution habits and waste of energy resources. And damage caused by wars and armed conflicts. For a species capable of reason, we really do not use much, do we?
To that I say: Read the previous posts. We already covered that.
Angelus, as to the shifting of the teutonic plates due to earthquakes...it is part and parcel of living on this planet...such shifts occur as the Earth itself changes and as such, the axis shifts....or shall we forget Pangaea?
This present and modern world, I believe, is not the first technologically advanced civilization and certainly, will not be the last. Do I think that nuclear testing, wars, and other donations of our modernized war machine contribute to the shifting of the plates? No...I think perhaps the Ring of Fire has a much greater responsibility behind that. In comparison, our puttering around on this planet is like deeming the flares of a roman candle are hotter than a natural lava flow...o.O
Life as we know it will change...cities will fall into the ocean, continents will rise above sea level while others may descend into it....the Earth's crust is always in motion...all on its own...I think we, as part of those living upon it...tend to forget the fact we're on a massive spinning top going round and round the Sun...to say that the changes and shifts that happen should be blamed on all of mankind's advancements and ill-begotten downfalls is a bit overkill and bordering on religious, sanctimonious jargon that decries all should repent of their sins now...much like a people before us who predicted 2012 as the end of the age and frightened of its portent, sacrificed the blood of millions...innocents and warriors alike to sate the hunger of the Old Man....shall we do the same?
... me?
I fo think nuclear testing will have had some feffect on the plates. I can't see how it could not.
